College is indeed a roller coaster ride for all who venture it. Like it or not, challenges will always be there to hinder in your freedom and happiness. Have you ever found yourself questioning and doubting your choices on whether to continue your studies in college, to shift college programs or whether to just accept your fate? Well, if you are, then it is with just the right moment that you've seen this blogpost.
As an STIer, It is with great importance for its students to be driven by Character, Skills and Values that they would take with them as they enter the stage of a functioning adult in the society. Let us enlighten you more here in this Blog Article as we feature Miss Gelli Fernandez✨, 24 years old and currently a 4th year Bachelor of Arts in Communications student at STI College Calamba🎓 as she tackles her experiences in college, and how STI has honed her into what she is right now.
- Was your college life smooth or a bumpy one filled with challenges?
Miss Gelli: For me, My college life wasn't smooth like what I planned it to be. The Covid-19 pandemic had taken 2 years of what could have been fun and exciting from me. Also, big adjustments were made as we transitioned from f2f to online and now from online to blended learning. So to say, it wasn't smooth but really filled with challenges mostly brought about by the pandemic.
- How did you shaped your character in order to survive college?
Miss Gelli: Actually, I haven't really figure out what I am really or to say, what my character is. Best put it, I think my character is just me being myself, but, everyday I strive to be better as an STIer and as a college student too. I take pride with the work I do and also take and accept failures and mistakes in order to further improve myself. Afterall I would need to a strong character for my future journey after college life.
- What are the various skills you picked up here at STI?
Miss Gelli: I want to be really honest here, the Covid-19 pandemic had really taken alot from me especially with skills. But, there is a particular skill in which I focused on throughout my college life, and that is dancing. I've been a student of STI College Calamba since when I was in senior high school so I joined dancing contests back then. Dancing and doing physical activities has very much been like my talent apart from being a skill.
- Alongside the skills you've honed, could you also tell us about the values you gained?
Miss Gelli: The most important value that STI taught me and gained from ever since my senior highschool days is Respect. Yes, respect. Respect to the teachers, to fellow students and also to myself. College is a very hard place to dwell in. Of course you would need the right people whom you'll be able to be comfortable with in this journey. So, respect is a must value that you'll be needing in order to gain the right people with you. Respect is gained, not given.
- Overall, were you happy that STI had shaped you into what you are now?
Miss Gelli: Hmm... well overall, I think I would actually say no for me as yeah again, the pandemic had taken alot of fun from me, those precious times that I anticipated were gone and would never come back anymore. Despite that, I still appreciate STI for doing their best to bring quality education to students despite the many problems.
We highly appreciate Miss Gelli's honesty on her experiences in STI. Though it is true that much quality time was supposed happen but was lost due to the Covid-19 pandemic, STI still tried their best to bring forth Character, Skills and Values to each and every student just like Miss Gelli Fernandez, with Vita educationem which means "Real life Education". So, If you're that college student who was doubting youself on your studies earlier before seeing this article, we hope that this was able to clear your mind and help you to be better in your next moves both in college and in life.

Drawing and Painting on Mixed Media Collage 2 Day Workshop at Island Art Association
18 North 2nd Street, Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034
January 14-15, 2023, Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 5 pm
This class is limited to 12 students.

Drawing and Painting with Mixed Media Collage
Learn the joys of mixed media collage. In the workshop, I teach the fundamentals of collage, drawing and painting. I will address working with papers, fabrics, found objects, past art work, pencil and charcoal drawing, and acrylic painting. Students have the option to play with gelli plates, stamps and monoprinting on papers in addition the collage. The materials used will be the choice of each student, but students are encouraged to incorporate some of their own prior art work into new pieces. The objective of the workshop is to explore new mixed media techniques and excavate each student’s authentic voice in their art.
I teach 2 drawing methods using the student's own photos. I teach how to graph a photo for any size free hand drawing and also a tracing method that works well for small pieces and individuals who are intimidated or new to drawing. We learn the fundamentals of collage on the first day and then spend the second day drawing and painting over those collages. I do drawing demonstrations on the first day so that you know what to expect and what kind of photo reference to bring. I work individually with each person trying to get their projects to a place that they love.
I encourage everyone to incorporate mixed media collage into what they already do! I will work with each of you on whatever style project you would like to work on whether it is faces, figures, landscapes, still lives or abstracts. There are no set rules in my workshops. I try to create a fun time that introduces new techniques and a comfortable learning environment to enhance where you already are. All levels are welcomed!

Materials list;
· 2 to 4 Wood panels, or canvas boards. https://www.utrechtart.com/products/blick-studio-wood-panels/ . Medium sizes (24 x 24), 12 x 12 and largeR if you want. I will have different sizes available for sale as well.
· Fabrics-- new and old, scraps, curtains, tablecloths, patterned napkins, cottons, polyesters, silks--anything that speaks to you. They do not have to be perfect, just smooth. Please bring patterns you would love to see in your work!
· Papers –scrapbooking papers, patterned, tissue paper, wall paper, maps, paper napkins. Japanese rice papers work best.
· Optional: Found Objects- old letters, old book pages, stamps, ribbon, washi tapes, scrapbooking stuff, keys, pressed dried flowers….
· Optional: Prior art projects that you are willing to let go of- watercolors, drawings, paintings, photographs…anything except oil paintings or inkjet photos.
· Matte medium – 16 oz. We'll use a lot of this! Golden is great but NOT Golden OPEN matte medium (It dries too slowly for this.) Mod podge does not work for this either. https://www.utrechtart.com/items/00628-1126/

· OPTIONAL: Golden Acrylic Flow Release. You can use your matte medium as a substitute.

· Scissors and sharp utility knife
· Photo reference for figures that the student would like to draw. Make sure that photo references are in focus and have a clear light source. It is very helpful to have color versions of the photo on a tablet or phone and black and white versions of each photo printed on regular inkjet paper.

Dear Yuan,
Uhm today is just a typical Monday but i lay and think about everything that happened this month, and i dont know but it really was a roller coaster ride. or i guess for me only.
My schedule been very busy, but luckily i was able to juggle things up with minimal sacrifices.. for example: Sleep hahaha
we've been mandated to do OT's for almost 2 weeks at work crazy how i can even finish almost 30 hrs OT for half of the month. it is really exhausting knowing that i have to meet my friends and celebrate my "Min Yoongi" birthday. buuuut all for love i was able to make it tho.
I had alot of fun celebrating it and being with my friends who has the same interest, idk if i'll write letters to you about it hmm basta if sinipag.
I also love how much time i spent with my family during this month, I always wanted to treat them. and oh the feeling i get after I did it. it is not really too much of an amount but i was able to treat them in a good restaurant with my own hard earned money. It is really fulfilling and i hope i can do it more often. I really want to give them best because that's what they deserve, I hope i continue to earn good and receive a lot of opportunities to grow not only financially but also in wisdom and strength. ayokong mapressure but kakayanin.
ehh this is getting longer na, i'll write again next time dami ko kwentooo. dami ko din gastos i need to stop na and start savingggg. sige naaa i'll sleep na kasi pasok na ulit sa work later. FIGHTINGGGG!!

I did some traditional art cause I’m still not up for long hours of casting. Anyway have a Foes, my new D&D character.
He’s an artificer. That’s a prosthetic on his left hand. The tail was an experiment that went wrong. It’s very soft.
Please don’t do a reddit and try to insist he’s she/her because he likes traditionally feminine things in Western society like the color pink and happens to have softer features thank you.
Made using posca pens, copic markers, sakura micron liners, sakura gelly rollers and a super cheap paint marker pen by artistro (that’s frankly as good as posca for most colors with a slightly worse experience with no colors on the markers).

Secrets We Keep Chapter 9 A Car Accident
It all seemed to happen in slow motion. The sickening roller coaster movement. The sound of breaking glass, and crunching metal, the seatbelt tightening across her seconds before the airbag deploys. And then nothing. Just blackness.
"A two vehicle crash. Unconcious female in one car. A dazed teenage driver in the second." Dispach reports as Jamie and the others head out. Jamie in the truck that contains the extraction equipment. It sounds like it may be needed for the female patient.
"She has remained unconscious. But her breathing seems stable." The emt, amoung the first, first responders, reports. Jamie, a fireman paramedic, nods. He is mentally cataloging what may be wrong. Concusion, a spinal injury serere whiplash. All possibilities go through his mind as he approachs the crumbled vehicle and the unconscious woman. Angus and Stephen, also paramedics , are with him.
She lays with here head turned away from them. The airbag covers must of her face. But, that hair. That curly wig he had spent a good part of the weekend tugging on, is still verra recognisable. Oh sweet Mary, it is Healer!
"Vitals are stable." Agnus reports. He is unaware what his mate is going through. He is steadily assessing the patient. "We will need to cut the airbag away. Hey Jamie, are ye with us lad?"
"Aye sorry. Yes. Neck brace. Before we move what is supporting her, let's secure her neck."
"On it." Stephen runs off to get it. Angus to get the airbag cutter. He is temporarily alone with her.
"I am here lass. Tis Fire. I've ye. Ye are naught alone." He strokes the part of her face he can reach. Her breathing evens out some under his touch.
Noises slowly return. Sirens. Murmured voices. A saw. She tries to catalog them. To make them make sense. But her brain is to fuzzy. She drifts back off.
"On three." Jamie says. He has secured her neck. Angus and Stephen prepare to move the air bag. "One. Two. Three." They lift it off and away and he holds her in place. He continues to as they cut the seatbelt off of her. He holds her straight as they slip a back board behind her.
Hands. Known hands. They hold her face and neck. Words. Soothing words spoke over her. But not English words. Not English but familiar just the same.
"Gentle. We dinna ken if her back be injured."
"We ken this Jamie."
He knows they do. But, it is her. So he tells them anyway.
Fire! His sub name drifts up and then out of her barely parted lips.
"She said something." Angus reports.
"Fire." This time they all hear it.
"Nae lass. No fire. But we are getting ye out." From Stephen. Only Jamie kens she is calling his name
"Lay yer head lass. I've ye." He whispers into her ear as they gently transfer her into the ambulance. "I am riding with her." He tells the others. The shrug. It is okay with them.
He inserts an IV., retakes her vitals, hooks up a heart moniter, and applies an oxygen mask. Same as he would for any patient. He also finds her drivers license.
"Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp, age 27, pulse 55, bp 140/60 temp 99 pulse ox 89 on room air 100 on oxygen." He reports to hospital. "Involved in a MVA. Unconscious at the scene, seat belt on, air bag deployed. Has not fully returned to consciousness. We are 10 minutes out."
He turns back to her. "Hey Healer. Hey Claire. Wake up please. Wake up and fuss at me for ken' yer name "
"Fire?" It is a mere whisper but music to his ears.
"Aye Claire."
"Shit!" He laughs. She is there. Healer. "How bad?"
"You were unconscious for a bit. Scared me. Your left wrist is probably fractured. The airbag gave ye two black eyes. We haven't done a full neck and back assessment."
"Paramedic?"
"Aye and fireman."
"Ahhh. Sleepy." Her eyes drift back shut.
"Hey, do ye want to ken my name. Wake up Claire. Please." But they are at the hospital. He and Rupert, who had drove, wheel her quickly into the back of casualty and to a waiting medical team. He gives his report. Including the brief return to consciousness.
"Thank ye. We have her. Nurse Beauchamp is in good hands."
"She is a nurse?"
"Aye. At this hospital."
"I will wait. To make sure she is okay."
"Suit yerself."
"Claire!" He jerks around at the sound of the cry. A lass with chestnut curles runs toward the gurney. "What happened?"
"MVA. Loss of consciousness. Gellis, do you want involved.?"
"Of course I bloody do!"
"Can ye be objective?"
"Aye. Where do ye need me?" The door closes and Jamie slumps against the wall.
"Ready to go?" Rupert comes up and asks.
"Nae. She is a nurse. Here. I wanna wait and see if she is okay. Ye can return to the scene. Help the lads with..whatever."
"Jamie, are ye okay?"
"Aye just..she is one of us. I just wanna see her safe."
"Aye. Okay I will be off then." He barely hears him. An undetermined time later..
Gellis walks out. Jamie hurries over to her. "Is she okay?"
"And ye are?"
"Sorry Jamie Fraser. One of the paramedics that brought her in."
"Ahhh okay. She has a bad concussion. She will be admitted overnight for observation. Her left wrist is fractured. She is a mass of bruises. But it could have been much worse."
"Aye. The seatbag and airbag both did their jobs."
"Thank the saints."
"Can I see her?"
"Sure. She is a bit loopy."
"It is okay." She watches him walk away thinking,
"There is more to that story."
Her left wrist is in a cast. Her right has an IV. Her eyes are almost swollen shut. She is unbearably beautiful. He takes a seat and takes her right hand. "Hey Healer. Seems that is my role tonight."
She cracks one swollen eye open and winces. "Fire. I thought I dreamed you."
"Nae such luck. I am right here Claire."
"A paramedic fireman."
"Aye Nurse Beauchamp."
"Well, I guess we know now. Naught to do about it."
"Ye dinna ken my name." She frowns and whinces again. "Do ye wish to?"
"Yes. Tell me."
"Tis Jamie. Jamie Fraser."
"Jamie. Do you still wear your ankle chain?"
"Aye. Do you still have the key?"
"Oh Christ. I don't know." Her frantic hand moves up to her neck. She finds bare skin.
"I have it. I rescued it before they took ye back. To spare the questions, ye ken."
"Oh. Thank you Jamie."
"Ye are welcome Claire."
"You know after we return , when I get out, we return to Healer and Fire."
"I do. I am yer sub here to Claire. Just calling ye Healer may raise questions. I wilk stay, if ye wish."
"Please do. Thank you Jamie."
"Ye are welcome Claire."
