Summary: At sixteen Wei Wuxian is—through some strange twist of fate, or a nick in the layer between parallel universes, who knows—out of the blue confronted with that one incense burner dream one night. While his curious mind is left unable to stop poking at this new perspective on Lan Wangji, circumstances in the Cloud Recesses begin to change and Wei Wuxian is suddenly presented with life-altering opportunities. Maybe Gusu isn’t so bad after all? (Or alternatively: The fic where I get to give Wei Wuxian the academic scholarship he deserves while simultaneously getting him hitched early on.) Kay's comments: Honestly, if you haven't heard of this fic yet, then you've probably lived under a rock this past year, haven't you? It's definitely The Fic™ and has been for a while now and it's already been recommended a few times by followers already, but I need to give it a personal shout-out as well, because I adore this story. It's living rent-free in my brain and despite already having more than 600k words, I re-read it like every other month and never get tired of it. One of the highlights is definitely TomatenMark's incredible attention to detail. Something will get mentioned once in chapter five and ten chapters later it'll suddenly be a major plot point. I also really adore the numerous characters TomatenMark has added to the story, they are all working so beautifully in the story and I find myself caring for them very much! As for the plot, it's basically a Cloud Recesses canon-divergence where WangXian get together and get married during the lectures and it kickstarts a canon-divergence that looks much better than the original timeline while also staying true to the characters and not sugarcoating things. If you haven't already, you should definitely check this story out! Excerpt: “I regard Lan Zhan highly,” he tried to reassure and Lan Xichen interestedly hummed, prompting him to add, “If I ever make him unhappy in some way I’d be the first to beat myself up over it.” Lan Xichen nodded and twinkled at him but Wei Wuxian didn’t dare to relax. “You seem to be quite dedicated,” the other noted. “And Wangji seems to return the sentiment given how he returned without any protection from the storm when I was quite sure I had seen him leave with his coat that afternoon.” “Ah. Er, yeah, Lan Zhan was so kind as to lend it to me when it started to rain,” Wei Wuxian explained, feeling on edge from the other’s roundabout way of hinting at something Wei Wuxian wasn’t sure he was even knowingly hinting at. “However, I have noticed that your neck was quite bruised when you returned, Wei-gongzi,” Lan Xichen went on. Wei Wuxian’s head snapped up from where he had held it politely lowered before. Lan Xichen’s eyes were overflowing with mirth. He definitely knew what he was hinting at!! “I hope you two didn’t get into a fight?” the Lan sect heir innocently mused and Wei Wuxian felt his resolve break. “Zewu-jun, please don’t torture me like this,” he begged.

Wei Wuxian is a young prodigious scholar renowned in cultivation world and the lans are very happy to host him during their yearly lectures. He wasn't adopted by the jiangs but still is a cultivator and scholar and damn good at it. The whole lan sect being the sucker for rules and books and knowledge, love the young scholar who is so famous while being younger than their second jade.
Now coming on to the angst 😈. Jiangs try to stake claim over wwx trying the card of emotional manipulation that his parents lived there. And jins try to betrothe wwx with someone of their clan. All this makes wwx so confused? Like he's kinda naive due to those emotional manipulation. In conclusion the lans get truly angry and snap. They show their secretly dark side and take their precious lan er furen with them.
Please do this one.
It took me some time to find a reasonable background for Wei Wuxian, so I hope you enjoy! (I actually wasn't sure if you wanted me to have WWX be alone growing up or not, so I'll make do with what I have.)
____________________________________________
When Wei Wuxian's parents went on night hunts, they typically left him in an inn with enough money for the few days they were gone. However, a particular harrowing night hunt that took many more days than usual caused them to come back late and find their son wandering the streets in rags. Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren went back to the inn and demanded their stuff back before realizing that this could not go on. If they left their son at at inn and didn't come back in time, what sort of horrors could befall their only son?
So they did the smart thing and left him with a trusted friend and scholar of theirs from the empire. They had met this traveling scholar while on the road and had saved him from a hoard of attacking monsters.
Since then, the scholar, Xu Fenghe, had occasionally employed them as his bodyguards and gradually became their close friend throughout the years. They knew his character and trusted him enough to take care of both their belongings and their child.
And, sure enough, one terrible night hunt later left little Wei Ying orphaned all at once. Xu Fenghe knew that the two did night hunts for income to feed their child and themselves, but they honestly shouldn't have taken such grueling ones knowing that they might not come back alive.
Fenghe mourned his friends and decided to take care of their child as if he were his own. He took their bodies back and buried them both near a beautiful magnolia tree near his house. And then, gently, he explained the concept of death to a young Wei Ying who shouldn't have needed to know of this.
The boy did not seem to understand death, but seemed to know that his parents would no longer come back. He became despondent for a while.
But as Xu Fenghe grew closer to the boy and adopted him, he opened up a little and within a few years, was the same bright, bubbly child, if just a little more subdued.
Xu Fenghe had no heir to his name but he had siblings that he had planned to pass his estate to when he died. Naturally, people thought that he would make Wei Ying his heir. But no, that child was destined to walk his parents' path and Fenghe did not want to restrict his adopted son from doing anything.
He gave the child his parents' cultivation method and allowed him free reign over his library. He even bought the child talisman paper and research materials and whatnot.
It goes without saying that Fenghe doted on Wei Ying. But, he supposed he was a little overprotective. Having been a scholar and even one that served the current Emperor, he knew of the daggers people hid behind kind faces and rumors that could break even the strongest of souls.
He didn't isolate Wei Ying, but nevertheless, kept him away from the ugly side of human society. Despite this, with the talismans that Wei Ying sold under Fenghe's direction, he gradually became known as a young inventor to the cultivation world and cultivators from all over clamoured to get a piece of him.
Xu Fenghe was glad that he had some amount of power and connections within jianghu. Otherwise, waving off those arrogant cultivators that thought they had a god-given right to his child's talents would have been a hassle.
However, he knew he couldn't wave them off forever. Wei Ying, now with the courtesy name of Wuxian as his parents desired, received an invitation letter from the Lan sect, hoping for his attendance.
Xu Fenghe was still wary of cultivators, but Gusu Lan had a clean enough reputation. And besides, they had a larger library and a wealth of knowledge that A' Ying was sure to eat up.
The starry-eyed look A' Ying had when he told him of all the books and research he could do in the Lan sect made him not regret his decision. But he still had to warn his child of the dangers of letting strangers too close.
"A' Ying, I know you're friendly but make sure to keep your cards close. Don't get overly close to anyone until you are sure you can trust them."
"Hmph! This is the fourth time you told me that Xu-shushu! I got it already!!" He whined.
"I know, but I can't help but be protective. It wasn't that long ago when they thought the could steal you away from your home."
"Heheh, don't worry, I'll be careful!"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!"
"Okay then, but make sure to send weekly updates!"
"Hahaha, will you miss me that much, Shushu?"
Fenghe patted his head, "Of course I will, you may not be my son by blood but you are my son nonetheless."
"Hehe," A' Ying giggled happily at that and packed everything.
Fenghe made sure to send him with a guard to escort him all the way there. He could only hope his child would be safe.
.....................................
Wei Wuxian marveled at the Cloud Recesses when he arrived. The walls were tall and white and pretty! He had never seen so much white before! Though....for such a beautiful place, they sure had a weak barrier. The one I made surrounding Xu-shushu’s home is definitely a lot sturdier. I wonder if the Lan sect will let me tinker with it.
He got up to the entrance and showed his invitation card. He was given a jade pass that would allow him to pass through the barrier and a guide to get him to his room. A jade pass to get into the Cloud Recesses? I really have to wonder about their security. I mean, couldn’t anyone just take one of these, replicate it and be able to get into the Cloud Recesses? Unless the Lan sect is able to revoke a particular jade pass’s permission to enter. Hmm, I’ll ask about that later.
He said his goodbyes to his bodyguard, a tall, solemn man whom he had grown up with and turned to the guide to lead him to his quarters.
“No invitation, no entry.” He heard behind him. He turned to look and caught a flash of purple and heard some angered voices.
“Wei-gongzi?” called his guide.
“Hm? Oh! Sorry, I’m coming!”
.........
He was given a decent room, tailored clothes, and instructed to read a book of the rules that the guest disciples had to follow. All. three. thousand. of. them.
Ahhhhhh!!!! There was really three thousand!! Xu-shushu warned me about this but I thought he was kidding!! How am I supposed to remember all of this?! But....I don’t want to disappoint Shushu.....hmm, well, I’ll just do my best!
Not even half a shichen later and Wei Wuxian was bored. He’d memorized all those ridiculous rules and really didn’t have anything to do. Normally, he would do some research but he had already completed all his recent works!
He wandered around for a bit and managed to catch sight of the other guest disciples. He chatted with a few and settled on Nie Huaisang, the young master of the Nie sect. He seemed pretty nice and there were a lot of things he was able to talk about with the other. He followed Nie Huaisang back to his room and played a few card games with him until sunset. He then said his goodbyes and walked back to his room.
As the cold night air hit his face, he shivered, willing his golden core to warm him up. Wanting to get a better view of the moon, he hopped onto the roof near his dormitory and sat down.
The wind is cool and crisp and the night is beautiful. A perfect place to meditate.
He closed his eyes and circulated his energy but not even a few minutes later, he sensed a presence.
“It is nearly haishi, go back to your room.”
Wei Wuxian opened his eyes and glanced at the person next to him. “It’s haishi already?”
“Mn.”
“Hmm, thanks for informing me.....Lan.....gege? But I’m not tired yet so I’ll stay up for a bit more.”
“Not allowed. Go back.” The stern, but handsome boy shook his head.
“Aww, come on, gege! Make an exception.”
One of the eyebrows on the other’s face twitched. “No.”
“Hmph. If that’s the case, then how about this? The rule said to be asleep at haishi, right? But it never specified whether it was the beginning or end of haishi. I still have time.”
“You--!” The other gritted out.
“Me~...what?” Wei Wuxian teased, a big grin spreading across his face. “Come on, Lan-gege, you’re going to have to complete that sentence if you want me to answer?”
“Shameless.” The other hissed out and drew his sword.
“Ah-ah-ah,” Wei Wuxian shook his finger at him. “Lan-gege, unauthorized fights are forbidden! And what are you so angry about? I didn’t break any rules!”
“....” The other did not say another word. It seems Wei Wuxian teased him enough as he lunged at him.
Wei Wuxian swiftly dodged the attacks. He brought out some rops and wrapped it around the tip of the blade, stopping the sword mid-slash.
“You’re so easy to anger, Lan-gege~. How cute~.” He suddenly let go of the rope, causing the Lan to stumble back a bit. Using that gap, Wei Wuxian got close to him and blew some air into his ear.
“You---! How dare--!”
“Heheh, this was fun Lan-gege, but if I play with you any longer, haishi will be over! It was fun, but I’m leaving now. Sweet dreams!” Wei Wuxian cackled as he dashed away. He finally found something fun to do!
.
.
.
Wei Wuxian arrived on time to class the next morning despite his body protesting to the early time. Ugh...maybe I shouldn’t have teased that Lan last night. The adrenaline from the fight kept me up! Oh well, might as well bear with it.
“Good morning, Wei-xiong!” Nie Huaisang called out.
“Good morning!” Wei Wuxian greeted and the two chattered about mundane topics until they got close to the classroom.
“Wei-xiong, there is one person you must never offend while you’re here.”
“Hm? Who? Lan Qiren-laoshi?”
“No, not him, but his youngest nephew, Lan Wangji! He’s the head disciplinarian and very bent on the upkeep of the rules.” Nie Huaisang shivered.
“Huh.” Bent on the upkeep of the rules, huh? “Say, Nie-xiong, did he happen to have a stern expression on his, be very handsome, and possess golden-colored eyes?”
“Yes, yes! That’s exactly him! But Wei-xiong, how did you know? Lan Wangji has been in seclusion for some time and only recently got out!”
“Heheh,” Wei Wuxian scratched his nose and pointed to the wall behind them. “Up there. Last night.”
“Wei-xiong!!! ......I’ll pray for your soul.”
“Oh come on, Nie-xiong, it can’t be that bad! I didn’t do anything to him......much. Just maybe, a little teasing?”
“Wei-xiong.....” Nie Huaisang patted his shoulder with pity. “Good luck.”
As the entered the classroom, there was Lan Wangji, sitting with in an upright position. Hearing the commotion, he turned around and narrowed his eyes. “....You.”
Nie Huaisang flicked his fan open, “He has his eyes on you.”
..........
All in all, class was.....boring. It was all too easy! But luckily, his boredom seemed to be noticed as Lan Qiren questioned him rapid fire and he answered with a nonchalant look on his face. In regards to his last question, Wei Wuxian had thought of a fourth path, but knowing what he knew about the rigidness of the Lan clan and Xu-shushu’s warnings, he kept those thoughts to himself.
Later, Lan Qiren would offer him some interesting supplementary classes that would replace the regular class, provided he passed the test. (He passed with ease.)
Time passed and Wei Wuxian spent his days conversing with Nie-xiong and teasing Lan Zhan to anger. (If Wei Wuxian were to be honest, he would think that he’s start to grow on lan Zhan.) He also buried himself in research and was happily asking Lan Qiren to see his work, gradually enjoying their long discussions of talismans and morality. It was honestly not that bad of a life.
Well, until the fight between the Jin heir and the Jiang heir. Honestly, Wei Wuxian wasn’t really involved with either party, but he thought it to be a pity that Jiang-guniang was brought into the middle of a silly fight.
Sighing, he brought out his binding talisman and stopped the brawl.
“You-let me go!” Jin Zixuan struggled.
“No. You two need to calm down. And besides, it pains me to hear a young woman being brought into the middle of a fight that honestly does more harm than good. Now then, Jin-gongzi, from what I’ve heard, you do not like this engagement with Jiang-gongzi’s sister, right? And this engagement was set up by your mothers and not her?”
Jin Zixuan was bewildered but nodded, “Yes...”
“Now that I have the facts straight, Jin-gongzi, have you ever considered that perhaps, Jiang-guniang didn’t have a choice or rather, even less choice than you to decide her marriage?”
“Uhh...I--”
“So, Jin-gongzi, how do you think she would feel hearing her fiancé, whom she has no choice but to be with, bad mouthing her and fueling terrible rumors?”
“Umm, horrible, I guess?”
“Yes. So, knowing now that she had less choice and knowing that it is perhaps your fault that the rumors slandering her have gotten so bad, do you feel guilty at all?”
“I.....I.....”
Wei Wuxian sighed dramatically, “Really, Jin-gongzi, have you even met Jiang-guniang, gotten to know her at all, and then decided you don’t like her? Or, out of spite for this engagement, not even given her the time of day?”
“The....latter....” He admitted weakly.
“Okay, so here’s what to do since you seem so hopeless.” Wei Wuxian enjoyed the outraged look on his face. “Get to know her. Talk, actually communicate, and find out whether you can truly see yourself being with her. And, if not, amicably break off the engagement so that she can still find someone worthier of her time. Does that sound like a better plan than whatever you were doing before?”
“....yes.....”
“Good.” Wei Wuxian turned to Jiang Wanyin. “Now, you. I’m going purely based off of rumors, but your sister likes this guy?”
“Yeah.” The other grumbled.
“Okay, so have you considered what might happen to the engagement should news of this fight spreads to your parents’ ears? It could be broken! And your sister’s heart with it. Not to mention what her reputation will be like knowing how it ended.”
“Why do you even care? You’re not involved with it!”
“I may not be involved but even I know what rumors can do to a person. It’s honorable of you to protect your sister’s honor, but beating down your opponent with scalding words to the point where they’re speechless sounds a lot better. You’ll also look good for keeping your head cool when another was goading you on.”
“....Okay.....”
Wei Wuxian removed the talisman from the two of them and sat them up. “Now, go to the infirmary and get patched up. I’m sure news of this has already reached Lan-laoshi. Just go obediently accept your copying punishment and perhaps all of this could be swept under the rug. If not, you’ll be responsible for explaining this to your parents.”
Having finished that long speech, Wei Wuxian patted them both and returned to teasing Lan Wangji again, like nothing happened. Though....there was something burning in Lan Wangji’s eyes as Wei Wuxian chattered at him....
..........................
In the end, their parents were called and Wei Wuxian wished them the best but washed his hands of anything else. He was an uninvolved party after all. And the two heirs could deal with the aftermath.
However, he didn’t expect a man dressed in purple robes to call out his name.
“Wei Ying! You’re Wei Ying, right?” The man asked, seemingly excited.
“Yeah....?” Wei Wuxian took a step back, wary of the stranger. “Who are you?”
The man’s face fell. “I see you don’t remember me, but I don’t blame you. I saw you as child after all. My name is Jiang Fengmian. Your father used to be a part of my sect.”
“Oh.” Xu-shushu did mention that his father was a part of the Jiang sect at one point but left due to reasons that he didn’t want to discuss.
“I’ve been looking for you for years! I had heard of a genius inventor with the surname Wei that was invited by the Lan but I never thought it would be you!”
“Uhh, thank you for looking for me, Jiang-zongzhu.”
Jiang Fengmian smiled. “Please, call me Jiang-shushu.”
“Umm...” He wasn’t really comfortable with that. Xu-shushu taught him to be wary of strangers and knowing his father left the sect for reasons aside from marrying his mother, he felt unsure how to treat him.
“Take your time if you’re not comfortable.” He patted Wei Wuxian’s shoulder and Wei Wuxian tensed up.
“Mm, I will.” He said in lieu of a reply.
“I....there are many things I want to show you. After the lectures, would you like to become a disciple of the Jiang sect? I know it must have been hard all by yourself. You could even call my son and daughter as your siblings. Changze and I were as close as brothers so it wouldn’t be a problem.”
You were as close as brothers yet A’Die left and spoke little about the Jiang sect to Xu-shushu. Something’s not adding up. “I was not alone.” Wei Wuxian refuted. “Xu-shushu looked after me.”
“Ah....that.....scholar. I’m sure he did, afterall, you grew up so well! But, I know he’ll be happy to see you be a part of a cultivation sect, especially one that your father was in.”
“Umm, I’ll think about it...?”
“Yes. Do think of about it. Your father was dear to me and your mother did stay with us for some time. I have many stories about them that I’d like to share with you.”
If Xu-shushu hadn’t shared everything he knew, this offer might have been tempting enough. “Thank you.” He said, neither accepting nor denying the offer. He didn’t want to offend a sect leader, after all!
Jiang Fengmian seemed to want to say something, but was interrupted.
“Wei Ying.”
Wei Wuxian turned around and was surprised to see Lan Zhan calling his name. He was delighted. “Lan Zhan! You finally said my name! Does this mean you accept my friendship?”
“Mn.”
“Heheh, I knew I’d break through your walls someday, er-gege! But...is there something you need me for?”
“Promise.”
“Hm?”
“You promised.....lunch.”
“Oh! That. Right! Let’s go! Umm, Jiang-zongzhu, I have to go now. Nice to meet you!”
“Yes. Remember my offer, A’ Ying.”
Wei Wuxian felt shivers crawl down his spine. We’re not close and yet you call me A’ Ying? “I will. Anyway, Lan Zhan, where did you disappear to earlier?”
“Went to see brother.”
“Zewu-jun? For what?”
“Hm. To tell him how close I am to Wei Ying.”
“Aww, really? That’s so sweet, Lan Zhan.”
“Hmm, most would disagree.”
“Why? You’re so interesting and so easy to tease! It’s amusing!”
Lan Wangji gave him a deep look that made Wei Wuxian feel like he’ll regret all this teasing one day......
...........................
The weirdness of that day didn’t end there. He was summoned to a room where they greet guests and was faced with members of the Jin family.
“Hello, Wei Wuxian.” said someone whom Wei Wuxian assumed to be Jin Guangshan.
“Greetings, Jin-zongzhu. Is there something you require of me?”
“Yes, yes. I have long since heard of your prowess in talismans and arrays and was wondering if you’d like to work with us as a disciple.”
Again? “I appreciate the offer Jin-zongzhu, but I’m very happy where I currently am.”
Jin Guangshan didn’t seem too surprised at his answer. “Then what would you desire? Money, safety, women? I can provide whatever you want.”
“Jin-zongzhu, I.....” What was he meant to do in such a situation??? Xu-shushu had long since provided anything I needed and I’m a romantic so I really don’t want to touch anyone....... Urgh. “I really appreciate all the...gifts, but I’m happy with what I have now.”
“Hm. Then how about a betrothal to one of my daughters? They’re pretty enough and having an alliance with us will benefit you in the long run.”
“?” Jin-zongzhu doesn’t have any--oh. Oh, he meant the daughters that were born because he slept around. “Jin-zongzhu, I.....I would prefer to marry someone I love. Umm, if that’s all, then I got to go. I’ll be late for class. But I’ll think about your offer!” He placated, not wanting to attract the sect leader’s ire.
“You should definitely think about it. This kind of offer doesn’t come very often.”
“Yeah, okay. I’ll take my leave then!” He dashed out of there as quickly as he could without seeming impolite.
Wei Wuxian’s heart beat fast. Geeze, honestly, what’s wrong with all of them? I just want to peacefully invent in private. Not be hounded by people!
“Wei Ying.”
“Uwah!” Wei Wuxian jumped. “Oh. Lan Zhan, it’s just you. You scared me! Why didn’t you make any noise to alert me? I swear, er-gege, sometimes I feel like you do this on purpose.” He pouted.
“Hm.” That was not a no. But before he could comment on that, Lan Wangji spoke, “What did Jin-zongzhu need?”
Wei Wuxian sighed dramatically. “The same thing Jiang-zongzhu wanted. He offered me money, material, and even a betrothal to an illegitimate child of his! Honestly, I just wish they would--”
“A betrothal?” Lan Wangji interrupted.
Wei Wuxian gasped, “Lan Zhan! You interrupted me! Isn’t against rule....like......two hundred and fifty eight or something?”
“You were quite close. But that’s besides the point. A betrothal?”
“Yeah. I refused but tried to make it seem like a hard refusal. I don’t want to attract any ill attention, after all.”
“Is that something Wei Ying would want?”
“Hm? Want what?”
“A betrothal.”
“I mean, yeah, sure.” Lan Wangji narrowed his eyes in displeasure. “But I want it with someone I love and who loves me back. Not an arranged marriage. But rather, a marriage like the one my parents had.”
Lan Wangji’s expression smoothed out. “I see.”
Wei Wuxian hummed, “What about you, er-gege? Do you want to be betrothed?”
“Same as Wei Ying. I would like to be with someone I love.”
“Really?”
“Mn.”
“That’s so nice, Lan Zhan! Soooooo, do you have anyone in mind?”
“Mn.”
“You do?!” And why did it somewhat hurt to think of that. “Who is it? Anyone would be lucky to have someone like you! Even I--” He cut himself off abruptly. What was I about to say?
Lan Wangji suddenly turned sharply causing Wei Wuxian to follow in suite. Seeing the dark look in Lan Zhan’s eyes, Wei Wuxian suddenly felt hunted. But he couldn’t even decide what to do, as his back hit a tree.
Suddenly, Lan Zhan got really up close and personal with him. He was so close that Wei Wuxian could count the individual eye lashes he had and smell some sandalwood incense on him.
“L-Lan Zhan?”
“Wei Ying.” His hand came up and caressed his face. “Wei Ying, you said anyone would be lucky to have me.”
“Y-Yes.” He answered, very conscious of the warmth from Lan Wangji’s palms.
“Then what about Wei Ying?”
“H-Huh?”
“Would Wei Ying want me?”
“A-Ah? I.....I’ve never thought about it. I’ve always seen you as--mmph?!” And then he was being kissed thoroughly. At first just lips, and then....than a tongue?! It was wet....and a little messy and Wei Wuxian felt like he couldn’t really breathe.
But it...it felt good. His head became really mushy and he began to lose the ability to think. At first, he felt like he should reject this, or at least push Lan Zhan away, but with how strongly he was being pressed into the tree, combined with Lan Zhan’s grip on his chin and wrist, he didn’t feel like he could escape even if he wanted to.
Lan Zhan soon released him, but Wei Wuxian could barely stand, he leaned against the tree in hopes to stay upright.
“Wei Ying.”
Wei Wuxian looked up at dark, seemingly possessive golden eyes. “Wei Ying, would you accept me?”
“Hah.....what? Accept....you?”
“Yes.” He pressed another kiss against his lips. “You said anyone would want me. Did you lie?”
“No....?”
“Then do you accept?” Lan Wangji rubbed his swollen lips gently. “Do you promise to be mine?”
Wei Wuxian was so flustered by everything that had just happened, he missed the glow of an array Lan Wangji activated behind his back.
Suddenly, his thoughts became clear. As he processed Lan Wangji’s words, something in him told him he wouldn’t regret it. Lan Zhan and his clan can protect me. They are strong enough to protect me from the Jin and Jiang sects. They won’t let them take me away. Xu-shushu may have connections everywhere, but he can only protect me so much. But Lan Zhan can protect me. However.....
“Lan Zhan,” he started nervously. “You....like me?”
“Mn. Like Wei Ying very much. Will protect Wei Ying from Jin-zongzhu and Jiang-zongzhu. Won’t let them take Wei Ying away.”
Having gotten his answer, Wei Wuxian smiled happily and threw his arms around Lan Wangji, “Then yes, I’ll accept!”
Lan Wangji smiled faintly at that.
...................................
He had actually done it. He had finally made Wei Ying his. Sure, he had used an array that would push Wei Ying’s thoughts in Lan Wangji’s favor, but if Wei Ying hadn’t formed those thoughts already, it wouldn’t have been this easy.
His clan would be delighted.
They already looked upon Wei Ying with much favor and desired to keep the young genius with them, whether it be through making him a disciple or marriage. They were enraged when the Jiang and Jin sects began making a move on him and tried to take Wei Wuxian away from them.
When Lan Wangji told them about his feelings, they were, of course, excited at this outcome and supported his plan. They gave him full access to the forbidden section in the library and encouraged him to do whatever it took to entice Wei Ying to their side.
Now Wei Ying was his and he would never let him go.
And as for the Jin and Jiang sects. Well.
They would regret ever even looking at what was his.
_______________________________________
Well. This became another long one. Hope the prompter is satisfied with this!
I did have another idea of them kidnapping Wei Wuxian on his way home and then slowly brainwashing him to accept them, but I decided on this route instead.

At fifteen, during summer camp in Cloud Recesses, Wei Wuxian invents a bunch of talismans when bored or prompted by Nie Husaisang. Thinking it awfully funny, he creates a throwaway account at a professional cultivation research/purchase network and uploads them for sale for a modest fee. Then, he forgets about the whole thing. Years later, the mysterious Yiling Patriarch is known in all Jianghu as an elusive genius cultivator who revolutionised his field. Those two statements might or might not be related.
In other words: three different ways in which Wei Wuxian finds out he is filthy rich and academically acclaimed. That’s it. That’s the story.
A gift for @ladyunderthemolehill. Happy New Year!

To You, I Am by NeverEnoughWangxian
mature | 12k | wangxian | complete | curse fic
“Are you alright?” he asks, just to be sure.
“Yes, we’re—” Lan Sizhui looks over but then cuts himself off, eyes widening as he glances around. “Wei-qianbei?”
Wei Wuxian frowns, wondering if he heard something. His own ears are still ringing a bit. “What’s wrong?”
Lan Jingyi gasps, eyes darting left and right, passing right over Wei Wuxian but never resting on him. Lan Sizhui isn’t looking directly at him, either. Something settles in the pit of Wei Wuxian’s stomach, heavy and discomfiting.
“Wei-qianbei? Are you hiding? Is this some sort of prank?” Lan Jingyi demands.
“We can’t see you,” Lan Sizhui adds, confirming Wei Wuxian’s suspicions.
The thing in his stomach twists itself into a knot.
.
Wei Wuxian gets cursed while on a nighthunt. Lan Wangji, unsurprisingly, isn't thrilled.
Ju’s thoughts - This is a very good fic. WWX is cursed, and has to figure out a solution, so we get genius WWX, doing what he does best. Wangxian are very much in love, and that is what gives the angst from the tags, because LWJ is afraid of losing him again. A very happy ending!
Author’s tags: Post-Canon, Case Fic, curse fic, Established Relationship, Fluff, Light Angst, Angst with a Happy Ending, Guilt, Implied Sexual Content, Mild Sexual Content, Genius Wèi Yīng | Wèi Wúxiàn, to be loved is to be Known(tm), No beta we die like wwx

i really really want more modern cultivation au secret genius wei wuxian who just drops mind-blowing revolutionary theories and innovations anonymously under a stupid ass middle school pen name like yLlingla0zuxX
comical plot twist:
lan qiren has a secret hobby ever since he discovered the joys of Online Cultivation Forums, especially one where he can scout for people with Massive Potential and/or Brilliant Ideas and offer to help them formalize their ideas into actual Papers (or discover Horrible ones and send them better reference materials).
of course, Internet etiquette sanctifies anonymity so lan qiren doesn't press for personal information from the few brilliant minds he meets. he has a good instinct for identifying the younger ones from the tried and true experts, and this yLlingla0zuxX clearly is an esteemed veteran.
his methods may seem scattered, but lan qiren is Most Willing to Invest in the Time to help this esteemed cultivator get the merit and proper consideration his ideas deserve. under the very proper alias: GrandArchivist.
GrandArchivist reaches out to yLlingla0zuxX offering to help him flesh out his innovations so yLlingla0zuxX can get it published and patented as Proper.
yLlingla0zuxX is reluctant at first, but agrees to do it. he shares a gee doc link.
it takes a while, but - between lan qiren's initial bafflement at real-time collaboration and yLlingla0zuxX's erratic and rambling thoughts - they manage to publish it.
offscreen:
GrandArchivist reaches out to his nephew A-Huan how this gee doc works and if he's Sure it's not a bad virus or phishing scam link or anything. he opens the link to see. bulleted paragraphs??? paragraphed bullet points??? either way, the most horrible draft he's ever seen... typing itself???? a-huan, are you certain this yLlingla0zuxX has not hacked my computer?

Some idiots on Reddit...
"MXTX isn't very good at writing sex scenes"
"Why did WXs first time have to be in the dirt, in a bush"
"why couldn't they have found a nice inn instead"
Seriously? Are they stupid?
Firstly, I commend MXTX for writing more realistic (bar WWXs self-lubricating asshole) sex scenes. Especially first times, which can be messy and a fumble! Personally, I enjoyed the sex scenes in MDZS, they were important to the plot and even had bits of information and revelations peppered in them!
Secondly, it wasn't "in the dirt" you illiterate moron. MXTX actually set the scene beautifully with the morning dew perfusing in the air around them, the soft grass underneath them and everything. It was actually rather romantic in my opinion. MXTX had them do it there for two very important reasons, that should be obvious to anyone with half a brain cell.
They were so fucking turned on by each other, they simply couldn't wait. That's hot, that's sexy, that's romantic. They've had feelings for each other for years, both wanting the other's attention and affection. Finally, finally everything is cleared up and they know how in love they truly are. They can't wait a second longer. And why the fuck should they? Just because some idiot wanted cliché candles and a bed in an inn.
It wasn't feasible to have them do it in an inn either way. The amount of noise and egging on WWX spouted as they discovered their shared kinks! It had to be somewhere far away from people, otherwise it wouldn't have happened because WWX would have held himself back and so would have LWJ. MXTX set the scene for this perfectly.
And finally, the other reason MXTX has them get busy in the bushes... To clear up the final misunderstanding, the blindfolded kiss. The fact they were in the woods, with the scent of dewy grass was all part of her setting the scene to jog WWX memory and remind him of that time. Of that non-con kiss that contributed in giving him a bit of a sexual awakening (alongside seeing a hot and bothered LWJ) and a nod towards the CNC kink he had and obviously enjoyed!
We get to see just how turned on WWX is by LWJ being so forceful. How delighted he is that his first kiss was taken by the only person he ever had feelings for. He loves how crazy he drives LWJ, how unrestrained he can make him, and how much LWJ wants him. That's the whole god damn point of this scene! To show their kinks and have them explore them freely.
So, sorry it wasn't in some shitty inn... But MXTX wanted to actually further the plot and give WX so much more than just sex. Why don't you go read some fluffy, cliché porn without plot stories on AO3 instead of shitting on a masterpiece that clearly went above your head.

wei wuxian being adopted by wen ruohan is not only the third young master of qishan, no one fear him, and frankly, they prefer him over wen chao
no, wen wuxian would be the annoying 13yo who would give a scroll to his sect leader predicting the outcome of the war the wen want to start, with two outcomes possible - wen ruohan dead and the war is lost, or wen ruohan win, but dies later because of rebels - and why they should not put this plan forward
wen ruohan is the tired guardian of a genius child (he thinks wei wuxian is right)
(and sends him to gusu to study when he's 15 after wei wuxian's non stoping begging, in the end, it's a ✨ vacation ✨ to wen ruohan)
(somehow he has to deal with two eloping teenagers now and a very angry lan qiren)

As much as I really do appreciate the whole CEO/secretary dynamic and sexy vibes such a story setting can offer - I can't help but think it's doing WWX the dirty in modern fics.
Yeah, the roleplay of such a situation is right up Wangxians street, with definite sub/dom vibes. But what I find ooc is the fact WWX is a secretary while LWJ is a CEO. WWX is a genius! He'd be running his own company! Or even two or three!
The beauty of WX is that they are equals, both powerful, strong, intelligent men who have met their match in one another. Give me CEO/CEO WX with the hottest closer doors "takeover" bid in history any day!
CEOxian teasing and pushing CEOji's buttons until he pins him to the boardroom table and makes him beg for mercy (WX CNC style) as everyone outside praises LWJ's sudden ruthless negotiation skills!

so close to writing about mdzs for my greek tragedy class—wwx as a tragic figure who does everything “right” according to his moral sense but suffers anyways, the jianghu as the chorus switching allegiances at the drop of a hat, nhs as a sort of deus ex machina righting wrongs at the cost of the stability of the ruling class

Flowers Blooming
by Ilona22
M, 35k, Wangxian
Part of the MXTX Epic Journeys Big Bang
Summary: At the coast, there is a city where they say the most beautiful of flowers live. Among them, one shines for many reasons. Wei Ying is orphaned when he is four years old. Unlike in another world, he does not have to wait years to be found by his father’s martial brother. Instead, he is found by a woman looking for a child to love. From that, he grows up differently. Some things are changed. Other matters are not influenced by the absence of one child. And yet others were written in the stars long ago. Kay's comments: A lovely canon-divergence story where Wei Wuxian gets adopted by commeners before Jiang Fengmian can find him. He still manages to grow into a formidable cultivator, but he also gains other talenst and a whole family! And when the Sunshot Campaign breaks out, he also meets Lan Wangji and of course, they fall in love. Really enjoyed how this story breathed life into the world outside of the gentry sects and expanded on the world-building of MDZS. With beautiful fanart by @krynnibear Excerpt: “We owe gratitude to that cultivator then. Do we know his name?” Lan Qiren asked. “No, they described him as very young, about Wangji’s age. Dressed in grey and a colorful underlayer, archer’s bracers,” she reported. Lan Wangji was interested, there were not many cultivators his age who could have successfully taken on all those ghouls. And from what Lan Lin reported, he had not taken money from the women in the teahouse, either. He sounded kind, and very skilled with talisman craft. It might just have been the way the tale was passed on, but some of those described did not sound like the standard talismans. “There have been reports of a cultivator of this description in several places,” Lan Mingchen remarked, telling them what he knew. There was no discernible pattern to the cultivator’s movements. Odd, as most rogue cultivators moved along trade roads, or in a fixed area. But all the tales added to the picture of a young man willing to help even without a big reward. Lan Wangji hoped he would be able to met him one day.
pov alternating, canon divergence, wei wuxian isn't adopted by the jiangs, rogue cultivator wei wuxian, inventor wei wuxian, genius wei wuxian, different first meeting, sunshot campaign, slow burn, falling in love, coming of age, getting to knew each other, strangers to lovers, families of choice, happy ending, cultivation sect politics, supportive lan xichen, supportive lan qiren, fanart

Just gonna throw a few prompts around tumblr to see what sticks.
Jiang Cheng fails a timetravel fix-it, it results in Wei Wuxian pulling a MianMian AU
Jiang Wanyin goes missing from Cloud Recesses a few weeks after Wei Wuxian was sent back to Lotus Pier.
Madam Yu irrationally banishes Wei Wuxian for failing to protect Jiang Wanyin despite him not being there.
Rogue Cultivator Wei Wuxian goes investigating to find Jiang Cheng and discovers him alive and well but deaged to a small child with memory loss.
Now Wei Wuxian could return to Lotus Pier... But Jiang Cheng was never fully appreciated there and he's such a cute tot now. Also Wei Wuxian is wary of the unreasonable expectations that young Jiang Cheng would be burdened with to 'do it right this time' by Madam Yu.
So Wei Wuxian gets his dream cottage and farm early and raises Jiang Cheng (renaming him as well because its a new start) again far away from said toxic environment with all the unconditional love and support he should have gotten growing up.
Prioritising parenting over night hunting (because he remembers being orphaned on the streets) Wei Wuxian sits out the Sunshot Campaign completely(to the extent of purposely ignoring all cultivation world news), The Sunshot Campaign lasts long enough that without Wei Wuxian all the sects are in ruins at the end of it.
Years later Jiang Cheng encounters something on a night hunt that restores his memory and the reason he was deaged in the first place. Jiang Cheng had travelled back in time to 'fix' things (funnily enough removing Wei Wuxian from the Jiang before he could antagonise Wen Chao) but the clash of his original core and the transplanted core sent him into a Qi Deviation that de-aged him.
16 years after he was de-aged Jiang Cheng investigates the changed world outside of his home and things are to put it lightly, so much worse.
Lotus Pier is basically gone, Madam Yu is missing her right hand, Yanli is grieving over dead Jin Zixuan. Rebuilding Lotus Pier is impossible because Madam Yu has zero support because of her behaviour and Yanli is basically a grieving ghost.
Lan WangJi is still in a coma from fighting the Xanwu of Slaughter 16ish years ago.
Jin Guangyao is Sect Leader Jin through lack of better option, he very much enjoyed giving Madam Jin the boot from Koi Tower.
All the great sects have been reduced to minor sects with little chance of ever rising again.
Jiang Cheng has no idea how to fix this mess, but he's going to need Wei Wuxian's help.
This. This is an amazing idea.
...........Oops. I think I might've accidentally pressed post. Eh-he.
Also, I was a lot nicer on Wei Wuxian since I could have had Madam Yu whip him before kicking him out. Let's just say that Madam Yu was too distraught or grieved to think about dealing with Wei Wuxian like that, okay?
_____________________________
It happened a few years after Wei Wuxian’s death. Jiang Cheng had been drowning in his sorrows and had had enough of this. ENough of being alone, enough of missing his parents, his sister, his....his brother. He hated this feeling of guilt over leading the siege, over not doing enough to make everything right.
And Wei Wuxian’s notes contained just the thing.
Time travel.
It would be risky. If he failed, he would lose his core. But what hasn’t Jiang Cheng lost already?
Laying down the prepared array, he took a deep breath and poured his spiritual energy in. The array lit up and Jiang Cheng felt himself being sucked in.
.
.
Pain.
All he could feel was pain. Sharp and constant and crushing.
Everything went black.
..................................................
Wei Wuxian had been peacefully studying some random arrays when a shidi of his burst into the room.
“Da-shixiong. Da-shixiong! You have to run now!”
“Huh? Shidi, what’s wrong?”
“It’s Yu-furen! She seemed angry and I eavesdropped and she said she’s kicking you out! I think she’s serious this time!!”
"What reason did she give this time?" Wei Wuxian rolled his eyes. Madam Yu made this same threat at least three times a month.
"She said that it's your fault Jiang-gongzi went missing. So....so...."
"Jiang Cheng is missing?!" Wei Wuxian exclaimed.
"Yeah, he went missing on a night hunt at the Cloud Recesses. But never mind that, Da-Shixiong, hurry!"
Frowning, but knowing that this was most likely not a joke, he quickly packed everything - even Suibian - up into qiankun pouches and hid them in his robes.
His shidi left and Madam Yu burst into his room soon after, storming over to him. He tensed up, knowing that that expression meant that he might be punished.
Madam Yu grabbed his collar and dragged him away, tossing him to the ground outside Lotus Pier.
"Yu-furen, what--?" He was smacked across the face as Madam Yu glared at him.
"It's your fault." She hissed at him. "If you were there, you could have prevented A' Cheng from going missing! If only you hadn't been so disobedient--Get out!" Her expression was thunderous and promised a world of pain if he didn't go. "Leave your bell and get lost!"
Shakily, Wei Wuxian untied his bell and ran away from there. He didn't want to stick around to find out what would happen if he tried to contest her decision.
The scars on his back was more than enough proof of what happened when he disobeyed.
.....................................
The first step to his new life was finding a steady source of income and that was easy enough. he'd built up a reputation in his time with the Jiang of helping whenever needed so people were more than willing to employ him to assist with local hauntings and minor yaos. (Madam Yu hated going on such easy hunts and often ignored the cry for help in places like these.)
He rather enjoyed this life rather than the restrictive one he led at Yunmeng Jiang where he had to think about politics and the like when no one taught him how to act better.
.
.
Now that he had enough money, Wei Wuxian decided to go investigate Jiang Cheng's disappearance in Gusu. One quick ask around for someone of Jiang Cheng's description and Wei Wuxian headed towards the forest where he was last scene.
After wandering without aim for a while, Wei Wuxian wanted to give up, but soon heard crying in a cave nearby. Wary of it being some kind of creature that wanted to lure him into a trap, he drew Suibian and inched closer to the sound.
Upon seeing a flash of Yunmeng purple, Wei Wuxian gasped as he recognized the robes.
"Jiang Cheng?!" He cried, rushing in.
He couldn't have expected what he saw next.
Cocooned in his now much larger robes was a mini Jiang Cheng!
The child looked frightened and curled away from him, eyes blank and unknowing.
Oh. "Umm, hello" He said quietly and he knelt down a distance away from Jiang Cheng. "What are you doing here?"
Jiang Cheng stayed quiet and looked at him warily. "....Got lost. Got hungry and got lost."
"I see." Wei Wuxian felt guilty. He should have come sooner! "Then, shall gege share some food with you?" He rummaged in his qiankun pouch and brought out two apples. He ate one to show that it was safe and handed the other to the child.
Jiang Cheng eyed it and moved forward to take it. Wei Wuxian did not move, not wanting to frighten him. He quickly grabbed the apple and chowed down on it. Knowing that he'd likely choke, Wei Wuxian carefully put down a waterskin that the child quickly grabbed after he started choking.
Wei Wuxian sighed in relief seeing the mini Jiang Cheng okay now. But.....Jiang Cheng didn't remember him. That was obvious after Wei Wuxian had asked whether he wanted to go home and was given a confused look and a quiet 'to whom?'.
Now Wei Wuxian had a choice. He could quietly return to Lotus Pier with Jiang Cheng and perhaps get back into the good graces of Madam Yu or......he could take care of Jiang Cheng himself.
Jiang Cheng had never been appreciated by his parents, with his father being too strict and his mother always berating him and comparing him to others (though mostly it was Wei Wuxian). Wei Wuxian always wanted to take Jiang Cheng away from such a place where he was never given encouragement but he never could given his status and place among the Jiang.
But now.......
Determination shone in Wei Wuxian's eyes.
...........................................
"Baba, baba!" A child squealed happily. "You're back!"
Wei Wuxian smiled back, picking up his child. "I'm back! Have you been good?"
"Yes, yes! I even cleaned the house!"
Wei Wuxian gasped delightedly. "Oh my god, baobei! You're the best!"
"Mm!"
It had been nearly a year since Wei Wuxian had found the amnesiac de-aged Jiang Cheng and a few months since they finally settled down in a cottage on the outskirts of the cultivation world. Wei Wuxian had worked tirelessly to get them this far and he has to say, he's done a magnificent job at child rearing!
It had taken a few weeks to get Jiang Cheng to trust him enough to leave with him and another week to travel away from the sects. Along the way, Wei Wuxian took lower level night hunts to earn some income. Any time there was talk of a strong monster abouts, Wei Wuxian considered helping them, but knew that he was one bad night hunt away from leaving Jiang Cheng on the streets to fend for himself.
His parents' ends were a stark reminder of that so Wei Wuxian did not take the night hunts. However, he did not feel good about leaving the innocent to fend for themselves until whatever sect was nearby deemed it worthy enough of their attention. For places like these, Wei Wuxian stayed longer in order to create some talismans to ensure protection against such beasts. He was always paid for his work, of course - he has a child to feed, after all! - but tried not to deprive a family of all their funds. He wasn't heartless.
And so, life had passed like this until he assisted an elderly couple near the edge of a place called Yunnan. The couple had no children to speak of and no relatives so they had asked Wei Wuxian if he could look after his garden and cottage once they passed.
Wei Wuxian wasn't one to refuse since this meant a steady roof over their heads and a constant source of food nearby.
He accepted.
That's where he's living now with Jiang Cheng who's been newly renamed to Wei Hu (lake), courtesy name: Chunyu (spring rain).
They'd been living without troubles for some time now that Wei Wuxian had largely left the cultivation world. Of course, he occasionally disguised himself and headed to his merchant who sold his talismans for him from time to time, but aside from that, he largely stayed at home with his adorable child, farming away while his donkey brayed in the background.
This life was one he had always wanted. A partner, a child, him and a donkey. He's missing a partner, a lifelong companion, for now but he could be content without one. Not many people want a single father as their spouse and Wei Wuxian could be content with that.
(There were whispers of a war between the cultivation sects but why should that matter to Wei Wuxian? He was no longer a part of them.)
.............................................
Many years later.......
Wei Chunyu was on a night hunt by himself! His baba had finally allowed him to go hunt beasts alone!! Baba was always protective over him despite how strong he had gotten. After finally managing to hit his baba while they sparred, he was allowed to go hunt for himself without supervision.
Licking his lips, he readied his sword for whatever monster lurked before him.
.
.
.
Jiang Cheng felt like he had been hit by a bear yao. Just what on earth had happened?? Shaking his dizzy head, he tried to remember what had happened.
I activated the array and I remember seeing my much younger hands and then..... Jiang Cheng jolted in shock. I qi-deviated!I qi-deviated and turned into a child because of a dissonance with the core from my future life and the core of my past life! But why? The array said my cores should merge, but maybe....because mine was brought back by Baoshan Sanren.....
Jiang Cheng gathered himself and then remembered. He remembered the life he had lead after that.
Wei Wuxian.....adopted me! He adopted me and took care of me and.....and loved me. Even though I.....I....I was planning on removing him from the Jiang before he could ever cross paths with Wen Chao. I mean, I guess, in a way, I did remove him from the Jiang but what happened with the war? It's been so long.
Shaking off his dread, he strapped his sword to his side and went into town. Asking discretely around for some information, citing that he didn't know anything because he's from Yunnan, Jiang Cheng held his head in his hands in distress.
The war had been won by the Sunshot allies. But all the sects were in ruin by the ends of it.
The Wen sect is still there but only the healers and civilians had been left. Wen Qing had taken ahold of the remnants of the clan, given reparations to the sects for Qishan Wen's crimes and dissolved the Qishan Wen sect and soon disappearing with her family from the rest of the world.
Lotus Pier still met the same end, having been decimated. But his mother was still alive, merely missing her right hand and some pride. (Though her reputation as someone too fierce and always angry had driven away what little recruits the Jiang had.) His sister - he could nearly cry at that - was alive but Jin Zixuan was still dead, leaving her as a husk of herself. Jin Guangyao had become the head of the Jin sect after his father's untimely death and booting Madam Jin back to her maiden family.
The Lan sect is barely hanging on, with Lan Xichen grieving over his comatose brother who had become like that through the draining fight with the Xuanwu of Slaughter and Lan Qiren barely alive.
The Nie sect has been reduced to nearly nothing as well, what with Nie Mingjue half-dead from multiple qi-deviations and Nie Huaisang who was suddenly thrust into the Sect Leader role unprepared.
"It's a mess." He muttered to himself. "It's all a mess."
Jiang Cheng has no idea how to fix this mess, but he's going to need Wei Wuxian's help. But....how?
No matter how much of a genius Wei Wuxian was, there was no bringing back the dead from life, not with how uninvolved Wei Wuxian was with demonic cultivation in this life and how the bodies had probably been cremated already.
Of course, he could rally together the Jiang sect again but if rumors of how volatile his mother was were true......perhaps it would be best not to provoke her.
They could bring his sister with them. She was alive and....well, not quite well, but she was alive! And maybe taking her out of the cultivation world will do her some good. It sure did Jiang Cheng a whole lot better....wait. What is he thinking?!
Jiang Cheng shook his head. No matter how comfortable his life was with Wei Wuxian, he shouldn't be thinking like this! But.....his sister deserves some peace after everything that's happened to her.
And Lan Wangji......well. Having a sect leader in his debt would be nice. Wei Wuxian was sure to concoct some sort of miracle with his talismans and bring Lan Wangji back to consciousness. If Lan Xichen were to be grateful to them, it would surely help with.....something. Maybe he could even solve Nie Mingjue's health issues!
But he would have to discuss everything first and maybe even tell Wei Wuxian the truth of how this all occurred?
Jiang Cheng packed up his stuff and headed back......back home. Because it was his home now. Wei Wuxian had always irritated him and Jiang Cheng even hated him, despised the very thought of him. But in this life.....it was different. Wei Wuxian......was a great father and raised him extremely well.
But.....what if Wei Wuxian grew angry with him for all of this? He didn't know what to think or how Wei Wuxian would act.
As his mind clouded up with worries, he hadn't realized he had already returned.
"A' Yu? Are you back already?"
Jiang Cheng froze up and Wei Wuxian's warm smile graced him. "Uhh...."
"Hm? What's wrong A' Yu? Did the night hunt go wrong? Did you get hurt?"
"No. It went fine. But....But Baba--" God, that sounds so weird! "--I have something to tell you."
"You can tell me anything. You know I'm always here to listen."
Jiang Cheng's heart warmed. "Well, you see, the thing is....."
He'd figure this out. They'd both figure this out. And maybe, this time around, the three of them would always be together.
