allow me to pitch what i, as a sports fiction writer, find to be a wholly underrated and underexplored genre of whump: sports whump

like. think about it. sports injuries can be devastating and gruesome. cultures of pushing through it and ignoring the pain and often re-injuring yourself much worse. Team Dynamics. the rivalries and alliances built into it. the potential for either whumper-free whump (accidents, stress injuries, bad falls, etc) AND whumpers that can exist in it (what if the whumper was a coach or a teammate or a rival? even a parent if it's school athletics? a journalist who has it out for someone? the potential ways for things to go wrong if you get a Bad Actor in any role are endless). the publicity if it's professional, for those of you who enjoy famous whumpees.

Your swsh art always makes me want to replay the game because i love it and its my favorite pokemon game and every time i play another pokemon game i think of it how i miss certain elements from swsh. To call Oikawa a villain means that you haven't understood Haikyuu at all. He was never a villain, he was just an athlete. He had natural talent, but he was forced to see people younger than him achieve more. He faced a wall, and he overcame that wall. He worked God damn it. He worked hard as hell in situations where others would have given up. Oikawa was an amazing, amazing character, and even though he's not my favorite, I will not take this slander.

But then TTRPG games happen because the only person who talks to him and doesn't seem to hate him is the DM (the goalie. "It's always the fucking goalies.")

Why you like it:  (All I know (or care to know) of hockey is from Check Pleasure or watching Goon one time. So just know that intensive hockey knowledge is not required here.) Platt (yes his name is Platt) is 21, alone, and hated by all of the hockey world for a) not being his famous player dad b) not being as good as his famous player dad, and it's given him some issues. (He's an asshole. I teared up several times anyway.) The goalie is a bundle of issues in entirely different way. (Sensitive soft nerd boy needs so many hugs.) There is found family and all that and I ate it up num num num.

Content tags: anxiety, panic attacks, someone reading hate about themselves online as a form of self-harm. Some homophobia from the outside world but none within the environment of the team. Shitty, absent parenting.
