Good Girls 3x03 Thoughts
Right. Well. I’ve kind of been stalling with writing this post just because the fandom is so divided over this episode. This is just my opinion obviously.
Overall, I enjoyed the episode. While I certainly didn’t love certain plot devices that were utilised, I can’t say I necessarily hated them either, which is...interesting.
Opening Scene
Oh my god. OH MY GOD. What an amazing scene. Christina and Manny are FIRE and they killed it!! I have never ever seen two actors with this much on-screen chemistry and I am basically 100% sure that I never will again, which is amazing but also sucks haha.
Rio is just his pettiest, best little shit self in this scene haha. The way he starts just casually asking about her kids and about Jane being the super star forward of the team. I NEED MORE JANE AND MARCUS AS BESTIES RIGHT NOW.
The way Beth just stares at him with those big, blue eyes and then glances away and around them at times. Her terrified, shocked silence. Gosh, Christina managed to convey so much despite only saying two words in the entire scene; she said everything with her face and eyes, her posture and the way her shoulders were set so that she was leaning slightly away from Rio.
The fact that Rio kept the freaking bullets she shot him with, the way he spend a few seconds sorting through them in his hands and knows which one is which, the way he kissed the first bullet. You cannot tell me that he hasn’t had those bullets with him sometimes, that he didn’t take them out in his hotel room and think about Beth, what they were and what she had done to him. Jesus. That’s literally all I can think about now. You know what I need now that the writers brought back the bullets in such an amazing way? THE PEARLS!
Gosh, the way Rio said Don’t. Do. That. The fear was very real in that moment and it felt so jarring; I was kind of thrown back to the scene in 1x08, where Rio grabs Beth by the back of her neck and touches her for the first time. This is the first time he has touched her since his ‘resurrection’ and it’s suddenness  was kind of similar to 1x08.
Throughout this entire scene, you can just tell that Rio’s thought about this moment so many times, that he’s thought about how he wants to make her suffer, go through some mental anguish for what she did. He couldn’t just shoot her as she got out of her car, in an impersonal manner, or get somebody else to do it. It definitely would have been easier and more successful. But they have history now and it’s too personal and I love that we can feel that in this scene.
“And then you gotta wait for it and, trust me, that’s, that’s just way worse”. Oh my gosh, Rio’s face, his almost manic laughter and smile, the way it turns into a grimace. The shaky cam. THE SHAKY CAM. I have no clue who was responsible for it but the shaky camera only served to emphasise Rio’s turmoil, his fury and his disgust.
But then as soon as all that turmoil and emotion become obvious, he doubles down and adopts a faux gentle manner again, with his voice becoming soft and placating, his arm around the back of his chair and stroking her hair so gently away from her face. I love that we were all thinking about how face and hair touches wouldn’t be back for a while. But nope. Rio’s out here destroying us all.
And then he stands up and says let’s get this over with and we get a shot of Beth’s face as she looks down, with Rio just standing on the periphery of the screen, hovering around her. I am in love with that shot. To me, it’s so representative of what Rio has been to Beth since they met and started orbiting around one another, never quite able to drift awat from one another. His presence just hangs around her and, even when he isn’t in a scene, Rio casts a very long shadow over Beth’s life and he’s a constant presence, even in her solo scenes. I feel like that is something this season has really doubled down on, whether it’s Beth thinking about what she’s done, interacting with Marcus and Rhea, looking at pictures of fathers and sons, standing and airing her thoughts about death to customers, making light of Rio’s death with the girls and Dean, emulating him and trying to think like him, teaching Annie lessons about being taken advantage of by criminals just like he taught her. Gosh, I think we’d be hard-pressed to find a Beth scene where Rio’s presence isn’t looming over her and I LOVE IT, especially since they’ve had so few on-screen moments together so far.
You can see the split second where Beth decides to lie about being pregnant. Like I said, I don’t love that this is being utilised as a plot device but at the same time I’m not as averse to it as I thought I would be during hiatus. I think part of the reason is that, like I said in the 3x02 thoughts post, Beth can be ruthlessly pragmatic and this is a highly duplicitous, terrible thing to lie about but, in such a desperate situation, it feels very Beth. God, she’s a mess.
I geuinely believe that Rio might have actually killed her had she not lied about being pregnant and Beth knew that. So I get it. I think now that Rio’s being forced to spend more time around Beth, it’s going to make it so much harder to kill her. Like Manny said in his interview “they hate each other but they want to be with each other”. Rio’s probably spent ages nurturing the hatred, fury and betrayal he feels. But once he’s forced to be around her again, I think it’s just going to remind him of all the ways he was attracted to her and genuinely liked her, of their messy history but history nonetheless, of all the ways she looked at him. It’s going to be so painful!!!!
Also, does anybody know what music is playing in the bar? I literally cannot find it anywhere! It’s not on Tunefind or on the season 3 Spotify playlist.
Beth and Dean
Ewwwwwwwwww. Hahahahaha. Omg. The writers did that. They cut away from Rio’s face to Beth and Dean having sex. I just about died.
This episode was such an interesting one for Beth and Dean’s relationship and really served to emphasise that Dean cannot read Beth anymore. She clearly was not enjoying the sex, was doing it with a specific purpose in mind and he just did not care because he was enjoying it too much. It makes me wonder if Dean was used to this emotional and ‘physical’ distance with Beth when they were having sex before Jane was born. The parallel of Beth grabbing Dean’s neck to her grabbing Rio’s neck in 2x04 was so good, especially when you just look at her face in this scene. I went back to watch the bathroom scene in 2x04 haha. I had to cleanse my mind.
Beth is clearly trying her best to be into it, with all the toys and acrobatics she’s having to use to even feign interest. The way that she can’t say that she loves Dean, the slow movement of the camera backwards as Dean walks away, serving to emphasise the distance between them.
I know a lot of people hated that Dean had so much screen time in this episode and, while I think the show could benefit from a little less, I actually kind of loved the scene where he’s out for a run and is working out. It was super funny with the way the scene cut between his blissful, sexed out face working out to  Beth frantically checking if there’s any chance she could be pregnant. He’s clearly living his best life and Beth’s trying to further her own agenda. She’s been using him. Like a warm body. A sperm bank.
I saw someone point out the parallel between Dean lying about cancer, paying a doctor to help him, and Beth lying about being pregnant, with a doctor ultimately helping her. And it really is such an interesting parallel because we view both actions so differently. I for one think that what Beth is doing in this episode is horrible but I feel like the fundamental thing that separates her actions from Dean’s is that Beth is literally fighting to preserve her life. Dean just wanted back into the house, to hold onto the idyllic life he had carved out with his stepford wife at home and his chick on the side at work. Does that absolve Beth of her actions? Absolutely not. Does it separate her from Dean, even a little bit? Yes. Are they basically as bad as each other? Yes, but in very different ways.
I am hopeful that the fake pregnancy storyline will end within the next few episodes and that Beth either admits that she isn’t pregnant or Rio finds out himself. But by that point, there’s something else, work-related, that forces Rio, or encourages him, to let her live and to work together again. Gosh, my dream scenario would be Beth screaming at Rio “We both know I’m not pregnant!” but then he doesn’t kill her because there’s a reason why it would be best to keep her alive, like the counterfeit cash or something else crime-related. I do genuinely believe that this storyline won’t continue throughout the entire season, especially since Beth quite clearly says that her lie will only by her 3, maybe 4, months. And look, I know the timeline on the show is a mess. I’ve decided to ignore the inconsistencies because I honestly just don’t care too much and I’d rather not get stressed and frustrated over it.
I loved the argument between Beth and Dean. It was so real and so well done. Beth’s hesitant justification, that getting pregnant “not the worst thing”. In this particular scene, Beth’s actions are the reason for the argument but, as the audience, none of us sympahtise with Dean either. These are two people, who have both done terrible things to each other and to other people, having an arguement about what they want. Dean’s actions are the reason they can’t afford to have any more kids but it’s not like Beth wants anymore either, which has been made clear by her arc over the past two seasons.
In this scene, Dean tells the truth, he doesn’t want anymore kids and Beth continues to lie. Even with this very ‘real’ arguement, she can’t have a discussion with Dean and she hasn’t ever been able to; she becomes defensive and attacks the choices Dean made during their marriage. It’s interesting because while Dean has been Beth’s problem for a while, he’s not really the problem in this scene. Beth lying to Rio is the real problem. Regardless, Dean brushes off Beth’s comment with a “here we go”, just like he did when Beth called him out for cheating in 2x06, to which we responded with “oh, come on”. I’m not gonna lie. Despite knowing that what Beth is doing is so wrong, it felt pretty good to see Dean taken down a notch, where he realises that Beth really just does not care for him as a partner (sexually or emotionally) anymore, just like that scene where she brutally says that she just likes having sex with Rio to emasculate Dean.
The emotional and mental distance between Beth and Dean is further emphasised by Dean feeling that their relationship felt like them again, even though all that had changed was them having sex again. Almost like that’s all he values in a relationship.
I’m kind of confused by everyone saying that the writers are trying to fix their marriage when it seem really clear that Beth and Dean’s relationship has basically been torn at the seams, with the only stitch being the kids now.
Dean and Gayle
Not gonna pretend. I’m not really feeling this storyline. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either. I’m kind of just indifferent towards it.
In this episode, we see Dean be tempted by Gayle’s offer but ultimately reject it, stating that he wants to focus on his marriage. Gayle, of course, knows that Dean is married but doesn’t care, which says... a lot.
Dean dyes his hair in this episode and it looks ridiculous. I 100% prefer Matthew Lillard with grey streaks haha. That being said, it’s not actually completely clear to me why he dyes his hair and I think that was also purposeful:
1. Is it because of his new-found confidence and bliss, living his best middle-aged male life now that he and Beth are having sex again?
or
2. Is it because he feels confident following Gayle’s offer and is looking forward to something “different” (which is how he describes sex with other women in 2x05)?
I think it’s interesting that the show is tackling bullying in the workplace. I don’t necessaily love that Dean is the victim, as I find it hard to sympathise with his character and I also feel like I don’t want to see him put in a position of vulnerability if that makes sense because I don’t want to feel bad for his character, who had sex with women at Boland Motors who were inherently vulnerable due to their positions as employee. I get what the writers are trying to do, placing him in the same position that others were in at his workplace, but there are just too many barriers stopping me from wanting to feel bad for him. That being said, I think this is an important topic to discuss in the real world because workplace bullying, sexual harassment and blackmail are such big issues. And anybody can be the perpetrator.
Stan and Krystal
I am pretty sure that Krystal is one of my favourite side characters on this show, which is saying a lot since I basically love all of the side characters, like JT, Tyler, Mary Pat, Lucy. Say what you want about the show and its flaws but the introduction of side characters is not one of them.
I don’t know how many times I’ve said this (pretty sure I keep saying it) but I really want Stan and Krystal to be besties.
Annie’s Therapy
I feel like this particular storyline is still finding it’s feet but I’m excited to see where it goes. In this episode, Annie mainly had to contend with the relationship that she with Beth, who is not just her older sister but has also been her caregiver for most of their lives. It also deals with something that has clearly been a sticking point for Annie for a while now, which is the fact that Beth kind of runs their 3-woman show and ‘calls the shots’. It’s interesting because Annie has had a couple of good ideas over the past 2 seasons but the reality is that Beth is the one who has crossed all the lines that Annie and Ruby haven’t. It’s Beth who gets high on this life and can’t live without it anymore. And it’s Beth who ultimately feels the most responsible for the messes that the three girls get into. She was willing to go to prison in the season 2 finale because she felt responsible for what happened over the past 2 seasons. In my mind, this is what separates Beth from Annie and Ruby.
In this episode, Annie and Beth basically have a quasi power struggle, for example when Beth tells the mover that he can leave but Annie tells him not to. Ruby’s face as she sits between Beth and Annie on the bench and listens to them argue was hilarious!
I love how confused Ruby is by Annie questioning Beth. It’s not just because Ruby has Beth’s back, it’s because it logically makes sense for Beth to deal with the mover, since she was the one who hired him. I’ve seen a lot of stuff floating around on Tumblr, about how other characters are being used to prop up Beth and, while I respect that opinion, I emphatically disagree. I feel like this season has made it so clear that Beth has not been absolved of any of her actions. Not even a little bit. This feels very purposeful on the writers’ part and I’ve written a little more about this in the section below about Rhea and The Clinic (+ Beth and Rio).
Ultimately, Annie comes to feel bad about the fact that she was giving Beth a ‘hard time’, recognising that Beth is under a lot of pressure. Like I said before, I’ve seen some posts about how other characters’ arcs are being sacrificed in order to justify Beth’s thoughts and feelings and that’s a fair enough opinion. I just don’t see it myself. Annie loves Beth and, yes, she gets frustrated with Beth controlling the show and making mistakes that affect all of them but ultimatly they’re sisters. So yes, Annie can call Beth out for all of her mistakes but she’ll also always have her back and empathise with her. As for the broader metaphor being used by Annie’s therapist, I really just think that Annie needed to fully realise that Beth’s actions are not, and have never been, selfish when it comes to her and Ruby. It’s always been from a place of love and maybe it is misguided and too protective sometimes but it’s out of love nonetheless.
I love, love, love the “Auntie Beth” scene, where Annie clarifies took care of her growing up.
The Mover (The Girls’ ‘Employee’ / ‘Partner’)
I love this character. I think he’s such a fun addition and I’m so curious to see what happens with him. Of course, we got the shot of him gagged and beaten up in the season 3 trailer and I’m fairly certain we will get that scene in the next episode or in episode 5. Perhaps it’s Rio and his guys who hold him hostage and beat him up and Beth is taken to him? The spoilers during hiatus revealed that Rio is going to shoot somebody in a van, in front of the girls. With how much this guy talked about his van and how loud his van looks, the fact that Stan and Ruby are saving up to get the van, all the times it was mentioned in this episode, I can’t help but wonder if Rio kills the mover in his van? Before this episode, I thought it would be Boomer but now I’m wondering if Rio actually kills the mover. I’ll be sad to him go if that’s the case.
Rhea and The Clinic (+ Beth and Rio)
As mentioned above, Beth has not been absolved of any of her actions in this season and I think this has been a purposeful move on the writers’ part:
The introduction of Rhea and Marcus means we get to know some very real characters who have been hurt by the absence of Rio in their lives, in other words they have been hurt by Beth’s actions. In the season 2 finale, she ‘murdered’ a father.
• The very purposeful scene where Beth stares at Marcus running away and at a picture of a father with his son. She can’t escape her own thoughts and guilt. There are reminders everywhere, even when she isn’t around Rio’s son.
• The moral dilemma presented by Rhea’s cheque, which Beth agonises over for a whole night and endeavours to pay back as soon as possible. Beth knows she’s a bad person who’s doing bad things
• Beth clearly states in this episode all the reasons why her approaching Rhea was wrong. She literally lists them all out, that it was selfish, creepy and messed up. It’s literally what we, the audience, have been thinking ever since the news during hiatus that Beth would be friends with Rhea in the new season.
• Beth’s pregnancy lie in this episode has also placed Rhea in a terrible position, placing her at the centre of a lie created to fool the father of her child.
Like I said, I don’t love the fake pregnancy storyline but I can appreciate Beth and Rio in an OBGYN clinic. He was so smiley with that pregnant lady who literally just did not clock how scared and uncomfortable Beth was and how insincere Rio was being. He was such a little shit in this entire segment and so gleeful while smiling at Beth, probably feeling 100% confident that she’s not pregnant. Airing out his and Beth’s dirty laundry with the doctor, regarding the date she conceived. Please, please, please do not let that be the last reference to the bedroom scene in 2x09. I need all the references and a flashback scene please and thank you.
It was genuinely so funny to see him look so intently at the ultrasound scan, like wtf she’s preggers?! Lol. But then that look he gave Beth, just before she very slightly smiled at him, where he looks at her with about 10,000 emotions on his face. Gosh, that shot brought me crashing all the way back down. Manny is a brilliant actor. I don’t even know what was on his face, a bunch of emotions that are practically unreadable yet on one of the most open facial expressions we’ve seen from Rio so far. You’re pregnant? You weren’t lying? You are lying? You fucked that husband of yours? What did you do? Why did you shoot me? I hate you but is it enough? I can’t kill you now? Right, I’m going to stop now.
The throwback to season 1 Rio, always on his phone and acting indifferent towards Beth and the girls was great
Also, Beth had me shook in this episode. She’s unbelievably gorgeous.
And to the person who pointed out the fractured artwork between Beth and Rio. You genius. What awesome symbolism and set design!
The Ending
Oh my gosh. I loved this ending. It was an awesome, fun cliffhanger. I cannot believe his real name is Mick (I’m really hoping to learn that his gang name is Demon in this season). From Carlos Aviles’ posts, it looks like we’ll be seeing a fair amount of him this season; at least, I’m hopeful we’ll see him more. We’ve already got a sneak peak centred around him being super polite and practically besties with Beth’s neighbour haha.
I’m super excited and optimistic for 3x04. I’ll l be watching it in basically 24 hours, as I have to be up early for uni and work and stuff and won’t be able to watch until I get home. Cheers to all the spoilers that I will try to avoid but give into eventually!

Summer ‘82
“Well, well, if it isn’t Elizabeth fucking Reynolds, the one that got away.” Laughed the beautiful blonde, as he waltzed up to the bar & leaned over to smack my ass, smiling from ear to ear.
“Oh my god, is that Vince fucking Neil, the worst kiss I ever had?” I smirked, “How the hell have you been rockstar?” I asked, genuinely happy to see him, grabbing him his usual drink.
“I’ve been touring Canada, singing, partying & fucking every single night, how the fuck do you think I’ve been?” Vince laughed, “Although, it’s nice to come home to your fine self.” He added, winking & taking the beer I handed to him. “We weren’t too sure if you’d still be working here.”
“Yep, still got rent to pay, Vinny! I think I’ll be working behind this bar for the rest of my days at this rate. I miss the old days of living with Daddy, when everything was paid for & taken care of,” I sighed jokingly.
“Well I’ll tell you what, you come live with me & I’ll be your new Daddy & I’ll take care of you.” He drawled, stroking the side of my face. I scoffed, moving away from his touch.
“Excuse me, you blonde haired bitch, I know you’re not trying to convince my roommate to move out to go live in that disgusting ‘Mötley House’ you degenerates live in, right?” Came the sharp, witty voice of my best friend, Sophia.
“You can join too babe, you know Tommy would love to have you there.” Vince said laughing, eyeing her up & down.
“Where is my drummer boy anyway?” Quizzed Sophia, looking towards the door of the famous Whisky A-Go-Go, waiting for him to burst in with his usual energy.
“Oh they’re on there way, Nikki was arguing with the bouncer outside, something to do with us not being on the list. I slipped in when they weren’t looking because I couldn’t wait to see your beautiful face.” He said, flashing that killer smile at me.
“Lets hope they don’t fucking let him in.” I said, ignoring Vinces cheesy compliment. I was used to them by now. A few months after the Nikki-Maddie incident, I moved out to finish my final year of school as a fully fledged, independent adult. I met Sophia through an ad she put out, looking for a roommate & we hit it off immediately. We lived just off the Sunset Strip & Soph got me a job working with her at the Whisky. It still wasn’t my scene but money is money &, turns out, being an independent adult ain’t cheap. Of course, Mötley Crüe were regulars, playing shows & partying there all the time &, as much as the sensible part of me hated to admit it, I’d grown to kinda like them. I’d become a chase for Vince, who was convinced he could charm me into bed like he does every other girl, although he definitely wasn’t getting anywhere. Meanwhile, Sophia & Tommy had a no-strings-attached thing going on, although Sophia had that going on with a lot of band members that played at the Whisky. She definitely had a type.
Hanging out with Mötley Crüe was fun, but I still didn’t party like they did. And I definitely still hated Nikki fucking Sixx.
“Sophia, Beth! How’re my favourite barmaids?” Tommy yelled, bounding up to us like a gangly, excited puppy who’d just seen that their owner’s home. “I’m so glad you’re both here, Nikki was convinced you wouldn’t still be working here by the time we came back off tour!”
Speaking of the Devil, he was purposely stood at the other end of the bar, being served by someone else as to not have to interact with me. Our hatred was very much mutual, only speaking to each other when we had to &, more often than not, it ended up in an arguement. He looked up when Tommy mentioned his name, shooting him a look before making eye contact with me. He tipped his bottle of Jack at me, before flashing that arrogant smirk he knew I despised.
“T-Bone, it’s good to see you man! You too Mick,” I smiled warmly at the eldest Mötley member, who nodded at me as he swigged from that hip flask he always had on him. “How was the tour guys?”
“Fucking INSANE” yelled Tommy, “we kicked Canada’s ass!”
“So when do you girls finish?” Vince asked, eyeing us both up & biting his lip slightly. Me & Sophia looked at each other & laughed.
“In about 10 minutes.” Sophia answered. “So I know you’ve been on tour & all of those drugs have probably scrambled your brain, but you know Beth’s still won’t sleep with you, right Vince? She’s practically a nun at this point!”
“I am not!” I yelled, laughing, swinging the dirty dishcloth I had in Sophias direction as she tried to dodge it.
“Well how about a little holy water to loosen you up doll face,” winked Vince as her lent over the bar & swiped a bottle of vodka & some shot glasses, pouring out 4 & gesturing for me, Soph & Tommy to take one each. I shook my head as the other 3 knocked them back. “Guys, you know I don’t drink like you do!”
Nikki was walking past & stopped when he heard me say that. “Same old stuck up Lizzy, still too fucking good to drink with us.” He looked at me, that smirk playing on the corner of his lips. I knew he was trying to provoke me, but it worked. I picked up the shot of vodka &, without breaking eye contact with him, downed it in one.
“Yes Beth, that’s my girl!” Yelled Vince as Tommy stole the bottle from his hands & poured out 4 more.
“Now let’s see you do that twice in a row, Reynolds!” Yelled Tommy. I picked up the shot glass, tipped it to Nikki who was staring at me from under his lashes, the irritation flashing in his green eyes & knocked it back. “What’s wrong Sixx, you too good to drink with us now?” I asked, my voice fake & patronising as I offered him a shot.
“Fucking groupie.” He scorned as he stormed off to a booth. I laughed out loud at his tantrum & turned my attention back to the 3 boys & Sophia.
“So Beth, now that your shifts finished & you’re a couple of shots in, let’s see how fun you’re feeling,” teased Tommy, “I dare you to do a body shot off of Vince.”
I rolled my eyes, ready to decline, before I caught sight of Nikki, still glaring at me from his booth.
“Ok Tommy, you’ve got a deal. But only if you do one off of Sophia,” I bargained.
“Babe, I’d have done that for fucking free!” He laughed, jumping over the bar to Sophia. “Doll, lie your ass down on that bar,” shouted Tommy, as Sophia, up for anything as per usual, obliged & got on the bar. Tommy balanced a shot glass full of tequila on Sophia’s chest, poured out a line of salt across her breast & placed a slice of lime in between her teeth. Then he winked at her before slowly licking the salt off her body, expertly downing the shot & sucking the lime from her mouth. Tommy stood back up, looking pleased with himself, a huge beaming smile on his face. “Your turn Beth!”
“Ok Vinny, let’s get this over with,” I laughed. He jumped up on the bar, pouring the shot of tequila himself, lying down & placing it just above the waist band. I glared at him. “You’ve got to be kidding, come on man!” I whined.
“Nope, that’s the rules Beth, sorry!” said Tommy, pouring out the salt parallel to the line of hair leading down from Vinces navel to beneath those too-tight leather trousers that left nothing to the imagination. “& for the final touch..” Tommy howled with laughter as he placed the slice of lime on the Vinces clearly outlined member. Sophia giggled hysterically as Vince tried to stifle his laughter as to not spill to shot glass resting on his stomach.
“Drink up Beth!” Giggled Tommy.
“Guys, come on!” I complained, half grumbling, half laughing. A couple of shots of vodka to someone that doesn’t drink can have quite the effect & I could already feel my usually prominent sensibilities slipping as I gave into the idea of having fun. I looked at the grinning faces of Vince, Tommy, Soph & even Mick. Fuck it, I thought. Just before I bent my head down to Vinces crotch, I made eye contact with Nikki, who’s stare was fixed on me. I winked at him & smirked before licking the salt from off of Vinces toned body, grabbing the shot glass & downing the tequila, & placing my lips around the lime, applying the tiniest bit of purposeful pressure as I sucked on it, making eye contact with Vince as I did.
I let go of the lime, stood up & laughed, letting myself actually enjoy the situation before I realised my tongue felt sort of numb. I moved it around my teeth to see if I could regain any sensation. I frowned &, as I did so, Tommy & Vince burst into a fit of giggles.
“What’s so funny, assholes?” I asked, slurring my words slightly due to the lack of feeling in my mouth
“How’re you feeling Beth?” Asked Vince, sitting up & snorting with laughter.
“I feel pretty good to be honest, I think I’m starting to feel those shots, except my mouth feels kinda weird..”
“I don’t think it’s the shots you’re feeling babe”, giggled Tommy, covering his mouth to try & muffle himself.
“What are you on about?” I demanded. Why couldn’t I feel my tongue?! The feeling was spreading the the back of my throat & I started to panick that I was perhaps allergic to something I’d just ingested. And then it hit me.
“You fucking idiots! Have I just licked coke off of Vinces fucking stomach?!” I yelled.
Vince & Tommy collapsed onto each other in fits of giggles as I looked horrified between Sophia, who looked mildly concerned, but mostly amused, & Mick, who was shaking his head at the boys before looking up at my worried face.
“You’re gonna be fine Beth, you’ve only had one line & you haven’t snorted it. You’ll feel it a bit but nothing intense.” He promised, patting my hand & giving me a reassuring look.
“Thank you,” I mumbled, as my head started to feel a little strange. Not bad, but different. I was focused & alert, like I’d drank a good, strong coffee, but at the same time, I suddenly felt at ease & like a blanket of calm had been draped over me. I wanted to be mad & scream at Tommy & Vince for being so damn irresponsible, but the blanket wouldn’t let me. I didn’t want to do cocaine, but I wasn’t hating it either.
“You pair of mother fuckers!” I yelled, punching them both in the arm.
“But don’t you feel good though?” Winked Vince, seeing that I’d visibly relaxed into the mild high.
“Well, it’s not as bad as I thought..” I admitted, “But I mean it, don’t ever fucking do that to me again.” I said seriously, giving them both a stern look. They each appeared a little sheepish.
“I’m sorry Beth, we didn’t think it was a big deal, honestly!” Tommy offered, sounding genuinely sincere.
“Sorry doll, just thought you could do with having some fun & letting loose..” Vince mumbled. I shook my head at both of them, to wrapped up in this strange new feeling to commit to my anger.
I was scanning around the room when I happened to look over at Nikki, who was obviously flirting with a pretty brunette in a black pvc dress. He was stroking along her collarbone with his index finger, whilst his lips brushed against her ear as he whispered to her. I suddenly had this burst of confidence surge through me & I marched over to them.
“Sweetie, from one girl to another, he’s going to fuck you & break your heart. Yeah the sweet nothings he’s whispering in your ear sound tempting now, but once he’s had his fill.. or you’ve had his fill, I guess..” I babbled, the coke doing me no favours. “He’s going to throw you out & move on to the next. Don’t be one of those girls. You can do better than him anyway, you’re way hotter than he is.” I shrugged, flashing her a smile. She looked taken aback & glanced up at Nikki for reassurance but his anger was evident & she quickly shuffled away from him.
I sat down in the booth, opposite him, folded my hands across my chest & sat back, holding his glare. “She seemed nice,” I smiled.
“What the fuck is your problem?!” He fumed.
“What? I’m just trying to save yet another girl from your twisted little games so they don’t get played like my sister. I like to think of myself as the angel that stops people from getting tempted by the devil.” I mused.
“You think I’m the devil?” Nikki asked, amusement breaking down the anger in those green eyes as that infamous smirk tugged on his lips.
“Basically, yes.” I said, my confidence wavering slightly under the intensity of his stare.
He let the smirk take over his face as he relaxed back into the seat & causally rested his arm along the backboard of the booth. “So tell me, Lizzy, why am I the devil?”
“For the hundredth time, my name is Beth. It’s not Lizzy. And you really don’t know why?!” He shrugged, looking intrigued & uniterested all at the same time. “Because you manipulate people, Sixx! You tempt girls in with that smirk & arrogance & they fall for it, meanwhile having no idea they’re dancing with the devil & you’re only going to leave them heartbroken. You have no regard or respect for anyone, you only love yourself.” I stated, feeling the weight of that stare, but not once breaking eye contact with him. The coke was making me brave & I couldn’t stop. “You have a dark heart, Nikki Sixx.”
His smirk was from ear to ear. “You’re fucking hot as hell when you talk to me like that.”
I faltered, his statement catching me off guard. I inwardly chastised myself for the spark of desire that his words momentarily ignited somewhere deep inside me. That was not me.
“You know, you’re one of the only girls that’s never tried hard to win my interest.”
“I’ve never tried to win your interest, Nikki. It’s called having dignity.” I scoffed, annoyed by the cocky look on his face.
“I know. It’s irritatingly sexy.”
“Well, that’s too bad. I didn’t trust or like you before you screwed over my sister & I like & trust you even less now. I know better than to fall for your tricks & lines. Remember, according to you, I’m the stuck up posh girl with the education & the clean lifestyle & you’re the dark & edgy rockstar with the sordid life & the makings of a drug habit. I’m the angel & your the devil.” I taunted, flashing a smirk of my own.
Nikki leaned across the table to me, his face so close I could feel his hot breath on my face, smell the whisky on his lips. His eyes pierced mine, looking at me with a mixture of disliking & desire. He smiled “But there’s a little bit of devil in your angel eyes, I can see it.” He whispered. A shiver ran down my spine. He noticed & he smirked wider, leaning in closer, so our lips brushed lightly. “And you inspire the Devil in me, Lizzy.”
My heart raced, my knees went weak & my skin crawled. I couldn’t tell in that moment if I craved him or was repulsed by him. Every inch of me screamed to push him away, to yell at him, to stop whatever was happening. But for that brief moment as his seductive words lingered in the space between our lips, that spark of desire I had felt had turned into a raging fire, engulfing my better judgement. All I wanted was to feel his lips on mine, to taste his arrogance & fall pray to his devilsh temptation.
“Ahem.”
Oh thank god.
The judgemental, fake cough from my best friend snapped me back into reality & relief washed over me as I immediately moved away from Nikki, embarrassed & frustrated with myself. Nikki casually leaned back, draping his arm around the back of the booth once again, looking conceitedly at Sophia, as she stood with her hands on her hips, looking at me with intense disapproval.
“Come on Beth, we’ve gotta go collect our wages.” She said cuttingly, throwing a snide look at Nikki before stalking off, back towards the bar.
I stood up, regaining composure, refusing to look back at Nikki. I could feel the smirk without even seeing it. I went to walk away without a word when he grabbed my hand & pulled me back, so I stumbled & fell on to his lap. He entangled his fingers into my hair & pulled me in so his lips were against my ear.
“There’s something dangerously attractive about dancing with the devil. It’s truly going to be heaven dragging you down to hell with me, Princess.”

OUMA’S DEFENCE LAWYER PART2A
Yes. There’s more. Here’s part 1:
http://kroneeeee.tumblr.com/post/166569354474/oumas-defence-lawyer-here
WARNING: this argument is super. super. long.
OOoookay, now that we’ve established that his nature isn’t to be an evil asshole, now comes his intentions. Why did he make Gonta the killer? Why did he come up with such a plan involving his death? Why did he try to be the mastermind? Well, this is my interpretation on it-
I’ll start it off with discussing Chapter 4.
Again, let’s establish facts before diving in:
Ouma was the first to know about the outside world. The outside world is supposed to be the worst thing ever, where no one was alive, and there was absolutely no hope left for any of the survivors. It was used as a motive to bring people to despair and thus kill people.
Ouma did manipulate Gonta throughout their time in the VR world after Gonta himself volunteered to watch over Ouma.
Ouma used Gonta to kill Miu to save his own ass.
He’s smart enough to figure out that she wanted to kill him beforehand.
Throughout the trial in Chapter 4, he’s been manipulating everyone and using his lies to bring Shuichi to the truth.
Ouma did not know of Gonta’s memory loss/error. Nor the fact that his avatar had some paralysis setting on him.
Yeah, Ouma did keep pressuring Gonta at some point about him being ridiculously dumb.
He was really angry at both Gonta and Kaito for stalling the killing game by not accepting the facts.
He had a genuine breakdown and wanted to die with Gonta before his execution.
In the end, after the execution, he suddenly had a change in character and became very antagonistic. Hm, how fitting for an “Ultimate Supreme Leader”.
Anyways, facts over. Time to explain why. Why he did such things. Why he did those asshole moves. Why he chose Gonta. Why he broke down. Why he tried to act like the mastermind. Those 10 facts are gonna be my truth bullets this time. C’mon, let’s treat this like a class trial.
First off, why did Ouma choose to manipulate Gonta for his murder towards Iruma?
Honestly, you’d think it could be a number of reasons- Maybe because Gonta was strong- NOPE. Sorry, but Iruma gave everyone equal strength ability in the VR world. That won’t explain why he chose Gonta over anyone else.
Because he’s the most manipulative? Plausible. Even though, as seen in the 4th class trial, he’s able to manipulate everyone, he chose Gonta because of his gullible personality- WRONG AGAIN. This isn’t possible. If you look again when they entered the VR world, Ouma never once hinted on Gonta to join him. In fact, look at the 2nd fact:
Ouma did manipulate Gonta throughout their time in the VR world after Gonta himself volunteered to watch over Ouma.
It’s true. Although when Kaito said something like “Geez, he really knows how to manipulate people.” He thought, along with influencing all the players, that Ouma manipulated Gonta into being his bodygaurd, which is false. Fact is, Gonta volunteered to help which motioned Ouma into manipulating him and thus using him to commit a murder he didn’t do. Ouma didn’t specifically choose, he was just given the chance. And he took it. Although he didn’t know about his paralysis setting until the investigation, Ouma stated that he knew that Iruma must’ve already thought of a way to prevent him from fighting back, which was why he needed someone to do the dirty work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In conclusion, Gonta being his murder buddy was just. a. coincidence. He only took action after Gonta volunteered to be his bodyguard.
OKAY, SO IS THIS QUESTION SOLVED? GOOD.
Moving on, why did Ouma manipulate Gonta the entire time to kill Iruma?
TO SAVE HIS ASS GODDAMNIT. HE DIDN’T WANT TO DIE. I mean, look at the third and eight fact.
Ouma used Gonta to kill Miu to save his own ass.
He was really angry at both Gonta and Kaito for stalling the killing game by not accepting the facts.
Dude, the lil’ supreme leader just wants to stay alive. He’ll sacrifice whatever he has to to do so.
NEXT.
Uh, thirdly, why did he turn into such an asshole towards Gonta after exposing that he’s the culprit?
We already know that he was such a huge dick for orchestrating Gonta’s exposure as the culprit by just... bluntly saying it. However, he became even more of a dick when he started condemning Gonta for being a stupid idiot. Looking back, was he not trying to imply to Gonta to just fess’ up? Didn’t Ouma give that kind of vibe when condemning Gonta? Especially when he said “If you aren’t the culprit, then you gotta prove that you aren’t!”
And when Gonta kept insisting that he doesn’t know anything-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He became especially angry. But why? Why was he so sick and tired of hearing Gonta refusing to back himself u-
Hey.
Hey, wait.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
I think we’ve got it all wrong.
I think this trial made us interpret this scene wrongly.
Because I don’t think he said that to force Gonta to fess’ up.
But rather, to get him to defend himself.
....
Wouldn’t that look more plausible?
ALRIGHT, TIME TO DISCUSS THIS SHIT.
I’m assuming we all know that Ouma didn’t see Gonta only as his pawn, seeing from his reactions and narration after the Voting Time. He found Gonta as someone with more value than a simple bodyguard, a simple pawn. I won’t clarify exactly how he saw Gonta, but it’s clear to say that Gonta’s life held some importance to Ouma after some point in the game.
^That’s a fact. The 11th fact.
So using this fact, and also taking into mind of how ridiculously smart Ouma is (e.g. planning his entire murder with script lines for Kaito to say and trying to beat the game itself all under a short period of time), wouldn’t it also be possible for Ouma to give Gonta some sort of plan on how to escape this, making the killing game more fun?
Wouldn’t that also explain why he was so angry that Gonta wasn’t trying to back himself up? Because he thought Gonta would follow through with his plan? I’ve never seen Ouma literally lose his shit over someone not giving something he wants.
Something. He. Wants.
He wanted Gonta to talk back, to give arguements. But Gonta couldn’t because he forgot everything. But Ouma didn’t know that. So he thought Gonta was being really stubborn, and if you were Ouma, you’d probably think Gonta would be an idiot too. Which could be why he was so upset that Gonta wasn’t saying anything.
^Okay, but giving Gonta a plan to defend himself is just speculation. In other words, my opinion.
However, Ouma losing his shit because he didn’t get what he wanted from Gonta is a fact. And Ouma not knowing is a fact too. Look back at the screenshots. If Ouma knew he forgot his memories, would he really, truly, lose his shit like that? “Cut it out already!” “I’m sick of you saying I don’t know!”
Wouldn’t he have just teased Gonta with his stupidity by saying “Heh, so he’s really this dumb after all! Not remembering his own murder.” (Which he did say something similar like this by the way, only after he found out about Gonta’s error.) So can you see the difference in his actions before and after learning about the error? He literally had a 180 change of attitude.
So let’s leave this question with the conclusion that Ouma was terribly upset because Gonta wasn’t being an obedient boy.
Alright, next problem. Why did Ouma break down after the Voting Time?
This is a common problem people ask each other all the time. Well, here’s how I see it:
Like I mentioned in the part1 post of this, Ouma is a kid who strictly followed a “no kill” policy So obviously this killing game has impacted him so much. All in the worst way possible. You know, like, actually committing a murder? Although Ouma didn’t stain his hands with blood, he still indirectly killed Iruma and Gonta. And I’m pretty sure, for a kid like him, it would be pretty fucking traumatising and loaded with guilt. Which is exactly why he’s seen breaking down.
Other than the fact that he held Gonta’s life with some importance, it’s highly likely that Ouma has guilt all over him. Which is why he tried to “fix” things by offering Monokuma to kill him instead. Because, well, like they all say-
“Those who break rules are scum, but those who abandon their friends are worse than scums.” Well said, Obito.
He broke the “no kill” rule. He hurt many people. He led the poor Gonta, who has no memory of the killing, to his death.
Isn’t that just sooooooooo despair-like?
Something that’ll reeeeaaaaaaaalllyyyy devastate Ouma?
Tumblr media
People say the crying was just part of his lying act. Well then do enlighten me. What reason would he have for breaking down, assuming it’s a lie, instead of rubbing it in Gonta’s face some indirect way or another. Instead of saying something witty or saying that he’s such a fool? What other reason could he have for breaking down in front of everyone in the room, other than actually crying because of guilt and sadness?
Please. Enlighten me.
Oh? You’re gonna use the “but he’s the mastermind and felt no remorse” excuse at my face? Gosh, I at least hoped your argument would be entertaining. Sighs.
Well then, let’s move on to the next question-
We already know he wasn’t the mastermind, but why did he act like one?
Well, remember this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did we ever actually see Ouma fulfill that promise? I mean, did he even try to fulfill it?
The answer is yes, tumblr.
You must remember that Ouma is a liar. And he shows his concern (e.g. shuichi) through his lies (idk go do his free time event you’ll see). With all his good intentions in his heart, it’ll always come forth through a lie, with a lie, by a lie. He always used his lies and confusing words to bring forth the truth in class trials, though he lets Shuichi hog the glory. Though, the fact remains that he does help the class trial with his lies. He grows bonds through his lies. He helps people through his lies.
I’ll let you figure out how that happens if he’s lying all the time. Now, remember the last fact?
In the end, after the execution, he suddenly had a change in character and became very antagonistic. Hm, how fitting for an “Ultimate Supreme Leader”.
Why? Why did he suddenly change to become so antagonistic? Yes, maybe he showed himself to be more of a dick than usual, but we already know why. So then in that case, why the bloody fuck did he suddenly pretend to be the mastermind?
Why did he lie to be the mastermind if he’s not?
To answer that, remember what I just said? With all his good intentions in his heart, it’ll always come forth through a lie, with a lie, by a lie.
Doesn’t that make his mastermind role-play the biggest lie he’s ever told to them? (Stfu about “but he lied about his talent. he’s not the leader of a 10,000 member secret organization isn’t that big” bullshit. We already established in part1 why he did so)
And wouldn’t his promise to Gonta be the only promise, yet hardest, to accomplish? I mean Gonta asked Kokichi Ouma, the most dickhead of them all, to make sure “everyone forgive each other and be friends”.
But Ouma can only lie. He can only tell the truth through his lies. He can only help through his lies. He can only guide people through his lies.
I’m sure you know what I’m trying to get at.
BUT JUST IN CASE YOU’RE THAT BLIND TO SEE, YES, HE PRETENDED TO BE THE MASTERMIND TO FULFIL HIS PROMISE TO GONTA. BECAUSE THAT’S THE ONLY WAY HE KNOWS HOW TO DO IT. HE CAN’T POSSIBLY “Okay guys! We need to team up and bring this mf Monokuma down!” BECAUSE IT’S NOT HIS CHARACTERISTIC TO DO SO.
So by playing the mastermind, didn’t he bring everyone more together by making everyone target him? What better way to give hope to people than to get them to unite through a similar feeling. Sadly, that similar feeling would be their hatred towards Ouma. But if that’s how Ouma accomplishes Gonta’s wish, so be it.
However, if Gonta were still alive, he’d probably tell Ouma he’s just as idiotic as Gonta. Because “Gonta want Kokichi to also be friends with everyone. Kokichi cannot be left out!” or something.
So, yeah, that’s just Ouma’s way of fulfilling his promise.
SO IN CONCLUSION OF CHAPTER4,
No one said anything about Kokichi Ouma being forgiven for his action. Even Kokichi Ouma doesn’t want to be forgiven. For fuck’s sake, he wanted to kill himself after that class trial. No one said Kokichi Ouma should be forgiven. All I’ve explained was why he did those things. Do you see me justifying his murder? Do you see me justifying why it was right for him to do so? All my arguments may have been leaning in favour of Ouma, but come on look at the title of this post....
With that being said, this is part2A. Yes, there’s a part2B which is my final closing argument of Kokichi Ouma. I’ll cover up Chapter5 and ending off my analysis of Kokichi Ouma.
