it means a lot to me that "put your mind to it" isn't about marty teaching george how to be Cool and Normal. it starts out that way, and marty gets annoyed when george can't mimic him perfectly.

but then they start having fun. it doesn't matter that george is a little awkward because the later dances are easier for him and both of them are too focused on the joy of doing it to think about that anyway.

in the end all that matters is that they bonded. and marty understands his dad a little better, now.

the plot of back to the future from the perspective of someone from 1955 must be so weird. imagine you're george mcfly. some tiny weird kid wearing a life preserver who youve never met or even seen before shows up out of nowhere and throws you out of the way of a moving car, immediately getting himself knocked out. he proceeds to follow you around everywhere and pick fights with the biggest guy in school and insists upon setting you up with the girl you like even though she seems to be in love with him. he shows up at your school dance and plays what appears to be a normal song at first but then he just goes mad and writhes around on the stage like some kind of creature while the guitar starts to sound less and less like music and more like it's screaming. he says something about your youngest child setting a rug on fire?? then he vanishes into the night, never to be seen or heard from again
