The dead time, the empty passages.
The fleeting and poignant desire to no longer hear, to no longer see, to remain silent and still.
The insane dreams of loneliness. An amnesiac wandering in the Land of the Blind
wide and empty streets, cold lights
Silent faces across which your gaze will slide. You will never be touched.
Georges Perec, from Un homme qui dort (Translated by @feuillesmortes) // Alley Study 18 with Beach // illustrations by Holly Warburton// Alley Study 42 with Supermarket

“It is on a day like this one, a little later, a little earlier, that you discover, without surprise, that something is wrong, that, without mincing words, you don't know how to live, that you will never know.”

The smoke from your cigarette, abandoned in the ashtray, rises, in an almost straight line, and then spreads out.
Something has broken. You no longer feel. – the feeling of your existence, the impression of belonging to or being in the world, is starting to slip away from you.
text: Georges Perec, A Man Asleep, 1967 (translated from the French by Andrew Leak) // Ashtray (1981) a painting by Richard Bosman // Smoke a painting by Anna Bjerger

Material literario. Georges Perec
