A radio show starring James Wilby, originally from 1998 is now available (for the moment) to listen to at the links above. Taken from the site:
It tells the story of narcissistic Sir Willoughby Patterne’s search for a bride. In an era when young women were effectively trafficked between fathers and suitors, he is torn between his feelings for sentimental Laetitia and strong-willed Clara. When he eventually pins one down to an engagement, Sir Willoughby is baffled at her attempts to extract herself from the arrangement.
Stars James Wilby [Poldark] as Sir Willoughby Patterne, Keeley Hawes [Orphan Black: Echoes] as Clara and Nickie Rainsford [Skellig] as Laetitia, alongside Simon Ludders, Hannah Gordon, Bill Wallis, Robert Patterson, Lawmary Champion, Christine Pritchard, Anna North, June Barrie, Giles Thomas, Paul Nicholson and Leo Brightmore.
Dramatised by Jane Dauncey
Director: Alison Hindell
A BBC Wales production first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1998.

So even though he gets little GOOD screentime anymore , I’m gonna be devastated when Ethan leaves. I was eleven when he joined and he was my favourite character - he was the reason I started this blog and he was the reason casualty became one of my favourite shows.
Though his characterisation in recent years has been a bit off there’s no doubt he’s an iconic casualty character and has been brilliantly acted by George Rainsford.
I’m gonna miss him so much.

i used to actually keep a list of my favorite characters but i do not anymore . so i may be forgetting some people. but this is a very long list though sorry. i tried to keep it to only two characters per media and only ones that i actually think about sometimes and only ones that actually show up in person. also this doesn't include fictionalized versions of real people. ok:

Not saying you have to vote for him or anything of course but thought I'd let you know in case you do want to that George Rainsford (who plays Ethan) is longlisted for best actor in the tv choice awards. Can't put the link in an ask but the website is awards dot tvchoicemagazine dot co dot uk - Casualty anon (PS glad you liked that episode, he does cry beautifully you're so right)
Thanks for the tip! Although I only voted for two things - The Last Kingdom for best drama series and George Rainsford as best actor.😃👍

All in all, I really liked tonight’s episode. My brain can’t process it fully because of the heat, so I’ll probably need to rewatch once the weather has calmed down, but I thought it was overall very well done. I don’t think Lydia Marchant could write a bad episode if she tried. I mean, she managed to do a good episode during Henrik’s CSA storyline on Holby. That storyline was such awful sensationalist offensive rubbish that anyone who could write anything good for it is SERIOUSLY talented.
I think my biggest issue is... why did Ethan disappear halfway through the episode? Especially with the story with the patient with MND. A story that seemed like it was being set up to parallel Ethan’s Huntington’s, but then mid-episode turned into a parallel for Rash and Paige. Which just, if anything, makes me feel like Rash is stuck in the middle of some kind of love triangle where he doesn’t know who to choose between Ethan and Paige.
I feel like I have things to say about that patient story, but again, let me have a few days and a rewatch before I try to formulate thoughts on it.
But seriously. Why’d Ethan disappear? Did George Rainsford have other commitments or something so he could only be in half the episode? I don’t get it.
Speaking of Rash and Paige, I’ll get back to them later. For now, I want to say - Lydia Marchant, on Casualty so far, first got to write an episode handling disability issues really well and now she’s got to write an episode handling the issue of sexual assault sensitively and with compassion. And I think that’s nice, given she started out writing for the Holbyverse with an episode for the most awful sexual assault storyline (yes, the aforementioned Henrik story), a storyline that took all a disabled character’s agency away.
I thought Ayanna’s story was very well written and handled, and I appreciated that no one - not even her brother, who seemed harsh, jerkish, and overprotective at first - victim blamed her, disbelieved her, or implied she was asking for it. See, you don’t actually have to have scenes like that in SA storylines! Who knew! (Cough, cough.) I really thought they were setting up for her brother to say something about her “asking for it” and I was relieved they never went there.
I didn’t like that the other characters pushed her to report it and undergo a rape kit, but I think it’s realistic that they would, so I get why it was written that way.
Moving onto Sah’s storyline, their mum is just the worst, and I still hate that the writers feel the need to shove people being transphobic into all Sah’s storylines. It’s just not necessary. The story is being written well this way, don’t get me wrong, I just don’t like the narrative itself.
However, I did like that we got Sah and Teddy scenes tonight. Their friendship is great. Also, Arin Smethurst continues to be a really good actor. They’ve slotted into the role so naturally, which is part of why I think it’s such a shame that the show hasn’t allowed Sah to do much other than being the victim of transphobia.
There was minimal Faith tonight, so that was good... although I have to say, while obviously no one knows about what Faith did to Lev (and sadly, they’re not going to find out unless Faith ever admits to it herself), Dylan asking Faith the attempted rapist to deal with a rape survivor was awkward. Yeah, Stevie was a much better option.
Back to Rash and Paige - I think Paige’s storyline has been written quite well, but unfortunately, it’s been a victim of the episodes getting shoved around again and again. I’m gonna have to watch them all in the correct order to see Paige’s storyline as it was intended to play out.
But still, at least it’s an actual story, which can’t be said for Max’s 2-episode BRCA gene/mastectomy storyline on Holby last year. (Yes I’m still mad about that. Jo Martin was more than capable with the material, why did they give her so little of it?)
I don’t get why people on Twitter keep insisting Rash is being “controlling” to Paige or even theorising that he’ll become abusive. I agree he’s out of line but his behaviour clearly comes from a place of concern. I could absolutely see both sides in his and Paige’s argument at the end. He’s well-intentioned - even though ultimately Paige is right that it’s her body and her decisions.
Also, Neet Mohan and Shalisha James-Davis are both such good actors.
So yeah, all in all another good episode from Lydia Marchant. And the last of the 40-minute episodes!! We’re back to 50-minute episodes from next week onwards - see you all then, for the start of series 37. :)
