9.) what is your favourite environmental season? why?
Spring! I used to be an autumn/winter devotee, but this year I was so emotionally affected by seeing the trees turn green and the parks fill with flowers again, that for the first time I truly appreciated how exhilarating spring truly is. Stirred my soul, made my heart bloom etc etc. I adore nature, and spring is much like seeing an old friend after a long time.
10.) what’s one book you’d suggest every person should read?
This is a bit of a broken record moment because I keep talking about it but, The Magic Mountain!!! While most people I’ve successfully coerced/threatened/cajoled into reading it have not been as excited about it as I was; I truly, genuinely, most desperately think that it is a perfect novel. I will not recommend another book Ever, until everyone has read this one and reported back to me. In general I don’t think there is a book that everyone in the world would appreciate, as people are unique with different tastes (and I like making personalised recommendations), so I will be selfish and demand that everybody reads My very own favourite book.
17.) what’s your favorite painting? and describe how it makes you feel?
That is a very difficult question to be entirely honest I don’t think I can pick one painting that is my favourite. I go through phases of obsessing over various artists and they are all very special to me. However, I will pick the painting that was my first ‘favourite painting’ and I still love it very much today. It is ‘The First Steps’ by Georgios Jakobides:
I first saw it when I was about 7 years old I think, and my immediate reaction was ‘wow there is a lot of love here’. And that is still my reaction today. I think there’s a lot of selflessness in being able to find such joy in someone else’s realisation of the vastness of what the world has to offer.
