" Dom, we'll never leave the shower " She states.

" We have all day baby " He chuckles, shutting the door of the bathroom behind him.

And indeed, they'd spent an hour under the water, half showering and half conversing the sweetest language with their lips, they step out of the shower, she wraps a towel around her body while he does the same, they stand in front of the counter to brush their teeth.

Well she was brushing her teeth, while he observed then trailed kisses across her shoulder. " I'm the luckiest person ever, I have a diamond of a girl, so smart " he murmurs, " so talented in her work " he pressed a kiss behind her ear. " and so fucking sexy "

Dominik was outside in the garden setting up the table and the two chairs while she was in the kitchen chopping up fruits to place them in two bowls, adjusting the two sandwiches she made along with two slices of the Gerbeaud cake she made using the recipe his mother had sent her; fifteen minutes later, Dominik returns with a surprised look across his face at the sight of all the food, specifically the cake she had placed that. " Is that? ... " he asks.

" I called your mum for the recipe " She giggles with a sheepish expression, " I wanted to surprise you "

Dominik's heart softens at the gesture, while he loved playing football and was thankful for the chance he had got, he surely missed home and with this gesture, he grabs his girlfriend by her waist to press a kiss to her forehead. " I'm so lucky " he whispers.

" Ok, you giant softie, it's time to eat " She smiles.

Together, they take the food out and place it on top of the table - and while they ate, they conversed about everything and nothing, Dominik deciding to bring up a possible visit to his hometown.

" You sure? " She said, she was aware that he had the international break coming up.

" Yes, my mom and dad miss you, do does my sister " Dominik smiles. " And I'd feel more relieved if you were with my family then here all alone "

" Aww, baby " She cooed, pressing a kiss to her cheek. " You can't stay away from me huh " she grabs a piece of cake to feed him, he takes the piece then presses a kiss to her finger tips.

Karácsonykor az volt a karácsonyi ajándékuk, hogy vettem sétautalványt a Hosszúlépés, járunk? -nál, mondván, hogy tartozik hozzá egy karácsonyi ebéd is.

Meg is beszéltük, hogy ma elmegyünk megnézzük a Gerbeaud épületét, és mondtam, hogy ebédelni meghívom őket a VaPianoba, ami nem egy olcsó, de nem túl drága étterem. Hatan vannak. Alsó hangon 40.000 Ft.

Erre a menyem rámírt, hogy a VaPianoban nem tudnánk rendesen beszélgetni, menjünk inkább a Vígvarjú étterembe.

Heten.

A Vígvarjú az egy túlárazott fancy étterem a Vigadó téren. Egy leves 2500 Ft, egy főétel 5000-10000 Ft. Egy üdítő limonádé 1490 Ft. Hét ember részére alsó hangon 70.000 Ft.

És most nem tudom, hogy zsugori vagyok-e vagy csak racionális, de azt hiszem egy kicsit dühöngök, hogy nem szoktam én ennyit költeni karácsonyi ajándékra. Jövőre egy-egy színházjegyet kapnak, ebéd nélkül. És még akkor is hétszer annyi ajándékot kapnak tőlem, mint én tőlük, plusz az a kamat, amit otthagyok náluk a kölcsön után, évente, mert törleszteni azt nem törlesztenek.

Sophie Török: Conrad Veidt’s Evening Recital

Before we get into it, hey, it’s me ya boi, and I’m no translator by any means, but I did try my best to give back the source material as best as I could (even if I now made an enemy in the form of Sophie Török, see my notes as to why). Also if anyone would like me to do some more translating of Hungarian texts relating to old Hollywood, I will not guarantee I will do it right away, but I can always try. That’s all~! Source will be linked in the replies.

Karinthy speaks of “intellectual cock-eyedness”, which Hungarian writers seem to fall into: those who already view themselves in the eyes of literature history – in the eyes of a late age. But there’s not only temporal “intellectual cock-eyedness”, there’s spatial too; and this describes most well our Hungarian intellectual lives: we view ourselves with the eyes of a foreign nation, and every phenomena that’s even a bit not to our liking, we see it as our country’s backward Balkan influence.

Still, we can hardly rid ourselves of this viewpoint, when we think of that comedy, which came before and after Conrad Veidt’s recital in Budapest: the sea of satirical “colorful reports”, the police cordons, which protected the film star from the siege of hysterical fans, the autograph wars, the uneducated movie public’s threatening enthusiasm (who may have not even understood anything from the grand recital), and the journalists’ arrogant shrugging, who refused to acknowledge that the “film star” made a worthy interpretation this time. (Translators note: Girl, what’s your damage.)

Those dumb woman of Pest, who fluttered with such pleasure: oh, how cute! (Translator’s note: Yes, the word cuki/cute was indeed used here lol) – used the same word for Gunnar Tolnaes as well, and the joy would’ve been even greater, if he came out dressed in a turban of a maharajah; which then comes as no surprise, that the reporter that was sent out there would write such a schlock at the sight of the unqualified and uneducated public (Translator’s note: I took a bit of a liberty with schlock here, but this woman is truly not holding back.) – obviously thinking, that if the crowd of women from the Gerbeaud, offices and hat stores like it so much, it can be nothing more than flighty nonsense.

However – the way our public acts is our fault; it’s the result of our books, our theaters, our critics, or maybe even our racial abilities (Translator’s note: Don’t bring race into this you bitch.) – the guest star is not at fault here! And the truth is that Conrad Veidt’s performance demands some earnest praise.

A recital from a movie star can create the same feeling as when the mute speaks: and the speech came with a sudden shock. This mute was made to speak, or at the very least he is such an artist of the word, as he is of movement. We Hungarians are always so sanguinely enthusiastic about every foreigner: yet we don’t feel enough humility at the display of spoken culture at such a high degree. Conrad Veidt feels the poem, - this can be said of very few artists. Most of our reciter’s do everything in their power, to devour the rhymes, the rhythm be turned to prose, for no one to figure out, that what they are saying, is a poem. Even Veidt acts out the poem, every muscle of his face acts with such an astonishing variety, – but through every loud acting performance pulses the poem that cannot be silenced, with a flood of complicated music, with a beat that can be stomped out with your feet even, the same way as the poor music students do on the opera balcony.

Hearing a recital is usually a boring and tiring thing, I think, that’s the opinion of many, - maybe as the poem is more, or at the very least different, than its brutally exfoliated theme be put into play. As prose turned into theme, even the best poem can fade into boredom. And Veidt’s recital that lasted for two hours didn’t become boring for even a minute, for one by one he faithfully gave back the poems musical individuality. I’m not talking about primitive chanting; Petőfi’s Őrült (Translator’s note: Sándor Petőfi is a famous Hungarian poet and the poem is called Őrült/Madman) – which even in translation sounded very much so as a freeform poem – was like music on Veidt’s lips, as did the lively rhythms of the Goethe songs.

It’s amazing just the same, how Veidt’s interpretation of the poems fits their mood. The demonic pathos came as no surprise from the fantastic movie dramas’ hero, where success is already guaranteed on it’s own from reciting the Őrült. But in Veidt’s performance the Heine-songs delicate flowers didn’t break either, and another example could be where the particular quiet and rich music comes out completely during Babits’ Éjszaka (Translator’s note: Mihály Babits another famous poet from Hungary and the poem is called Éjszaka/Evening), which demands the throat’s most tender chords, with which an artist trying to achieve a cheap impact would surely not even try.

The German language culture is surely greater than the Hungarian. But the culture does not explain everything. As it is, in spite of our meager and few in tradition acting culture there still could’ve been reciters, such as – let me only mention those of most recent fame – Blanka Pécsi, or Oszkár Ascher: than we can conclude that not all German actors are Conrad Veidt either. Still the personality is that Philosopher’s Stone, that magical force, which ennobles the cheap metal into gold. The flavor to Veidt’s reciting also comes from his personality – that completely unique way of reciting poems, which would be reminiscent of Babits’ curious singing, chanting reciting: by all means more the mannerism of a poet than an actor.

Next to Goethe, Heine and Rilke Veidt also recited Ady, Babits and Kosztolányi, with such empathy and love that maybe even our Hungarian chauvinism can be proud of, if the Hungarian chauvinism would be quite unbiased. It’s a special pleasure to our Hungarianness the beautiful translations done by Henrik Horváth, where all its beauty can only truly be appreciated when it’s heard.

Hi! I already mentioned my favorite photographs on this ask. But I've never talked about my favorite portraits, so let's do that! To not be too obvious I'm going to omit Winterhalter's portraits, but I still love them (even if I'm a bit bored of them always being used as covers for Elisabeth's biographies).

Duchess Elisabeth and Duke Karl Theodor in Bavaria, by Carl Haag, 1849. Little Elise! I just find this portrait of Elisabeth and her brother really cute, and there's even a good boy in it! What's not to love?

Empress Elisabeth of Austria, by Franz Schrotzberg, 1860. One of her best portraits as a young woman; no accessories, no sumptuous attire, just a simple hairstyle and a very striking profile. I wish it was used more often as a book cover.

Queen Elisabeth, by Bertalan Székely, 1869. My favorite state portrait of Elisabeth, mainly because this is the one in which you can see her coronation dress in more detail. The face isn't the best but that's the least important thing on a state portrait, I'm here for the symbolism, and Székely delivered.

Empress Elisabeth, by Georg Raab, 1873. This was Elisabeth's best look, fight me. In general I think the 1870s was the time she served looks the most, but in particular I like this portrait because she's looking right at you. Those eyes aren't empty, they know something that you don't, and I love that (oh and that jewelry? Inherited from a certain Maria Antonia, sometime Queen of France).

Empress Elisabeth of Austria, by Leopold Horowitz, 1899. Her best posthumous portrait, imo. She looks young like in all her portraits from this time, and yet there's something about her eyes that just tells you this isn't a young woman at all, but someone that has lived a long life. Ughh I love art AI could NEVER capture this feeling.

Queen Elisabeth and Archduchess Gisela at Gerbeaud, by Márk Lajos, 1900. The quality of the picture sucks but I just love this one because is so odd to see Elisabeth depicted with Gisela, specially as an adult woman. I don't know the context for it but I'd love to, specially since is also a posthumous picture. Did someone commissioned it for Gisela? Did this scene actually took place or is a creation of the artist?

There are more that I like but these are some that come to my mind now!

QU'EST-CE QU'UNE ZONE DE RUSTICITÉ ?

En fait, on parle de zones USDA qui ont été créées par le département de l’agriculture des États Unis (US pour United States, D pour Department et A pour Agriculture). Une carte a été créée afin de déterminer une moyenne des températures minimales pour chaque région. Cette dernière est la norme utilisée par les jardiniers et les agriculteurs pour connaitre avec exactitude quelles températures que chaque végétal peut supporter. Prenons un exemple. Une plante qui est rustique jusqu'à une température de -15° mourra si la température descend sous cette barre. A noter que la plante en question peux avoir certains dommages dans sa partie aérienne avant que la température de -15° soit atteinte. En principe, elle doit repartir de la base à la saison printanière car le système racinaire n'a pas été atteint. Il en est de même pour les végétaux qui craignent énormément la chaleur et qu'il est fortement déconseillé de cultiver dans le sud de la France.

QU'EN EST-IL EN FRANCE ?

En France, nous avons la particularité d'avoir une diversité de paysages, mais aussi des climats bien différents. En effet, malgré un climat globalement tempéré, notre pays, suivant les régions, affiche de grandes différences de température, ainsi que de pluviométrie. Dans la nature, vous verrez des végétaux spécifiques à chaque région. En ce qui concerne les jardins, Il faut adapter la culture des végétaux en fonction de sa région (plantes rustiques donc résistantes au froid, celles qui se développent mieux avec un climat doux et humide.. Etc..)

VOYONS CELA PLUS EN DÉTAIL

type 1 : les climats de montage Le type 1 concerne les climats de montagne qui est réparti sur une bonne partie de la France : Massif Central, Alpes, Jura, Pyrénées, Morvan, Ardennes, Franche-Contées. Les altitudes sont parfois très différentes. Néanmoins, les températures restent très froides. Dans ces zones climatiques, vous pouvez constater : - Un certain nombre élevé de jours de précipitation (pluie et neige). - Une température moyenne inférieure à 9,5°. Ce genre de climat correspond à la zone USDA 6a avec des températures minimales en moyenne relevées de -22°. Type 2 : Le climat semi-continental ainsi que le climat des marges de montagnes Le type 2 a un climat intermédiaire entre le climat de montagne et les climats de type 3, 4 et 8. Les zones concernées s'étalent sur les périphéries de montage jusque sur de très grands secteurs, tels la Bourgogne, l'Alsace et la Lorraine. Dans ces zones on constate : - Que les températures sont moins fraiches qu'en montagne. Mais par contre, à altitude égale, plus froides que partout ailleurs. -Que les précipitations sont un peu plus faibles et aussi moins fréquentes. Ce genre de climat correspond à la zone USDA 6b avec des températures minimales en moyenne relevées de -18°. Type 3 : Le climat océanique dégradé concernant les plaines du Centre et du Nord Le type 3 est un climat qui se développe sur l'ensemble du Bassin parisien en s'étendant vers le sud, c'est à dire vers la vallée moyenne de la Loire, la vallée de la Saône et le nord du Massif Central. Ce climat reste océanique, mais de belles dégradations se produisent parfois. Coté températures, elles sont intermédiaires (11° en moyenne sur une année. Entre une et deux semaines à une température en dessous de -5°). Les précipitations sont assez faibles surtout pendant la saison estivale (moins de 700 millimètres en cumul annuel). Pour vous donner une idée au mois de janvier, ce sont 12 jours de pluie pendant qu'au mois de juillet les dépressions ne sont que de 8 jours environ. Ce ne sont que des moyennes rapportées à l'ensemble de la France. Ce genre de climat correspond à la zone USDA 7a avec des températures minimales en moyenne relevées de -16°.

Gerbeaud Type 4 : Le climat océanique altéré Le type 4 est un climat océanique dit altéré qui se développe entre la Normandie et le Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Est concerné également le sud ouest du Massif Central, du département de la Dordogne au département de l'Aveyron ainsi que le nord des Pyrénées. En fait, ce climat est transitoire entre le climat océanique franc (type 5) et le climat océanique dégradé (type 3). En ce qui concerne ses caractéristiques : -Sa température moyenne annuelle est assez élevée (13°) avec un nombre de jours très froids assez faible c'est à dire 4/8 jours par an, et un nombre de jours chauds de l'ordre de 15 jours à 3 semaines voire parfois un peu plus. -Les précipitations annuelles moyennes sont d'environ 800/900 mm surtout pendant la saison hivernale. -La saison estivale est dans l'ensemble plutôt sèche. Ce genre de climat correspond à la zone USDA 7b avec des températures minimales en moyenne relevées de -13°. Type 5 : Le climat océanique franc Le type 5 occupe une mince bande en bordure de la mer du Nord, en passant par l'ensemble de la Normandie, la Vendée, la Bretagne et les Charentes. Un tout petit espace océanique est présent à l'ouest des Pyrénées-Atlantiques et des Landes. Dans ces zones on constate : - Que les températures sont dans l'ensemble assez constantes. -Entre le mois de janvier et le mois de juillet il y a une différence de température de 13° environ. -Dans ces régions il y a moins de 4 jours de froid et également moins de 4 jours de chaud. -Les variations sont vraiment minimales. -Par contre les précipitations sont importantes (plus de 1000 mm par an). Elles sont très fréquentes pendant la saison hivernale (une quinzaine de jours pendant le mois de janvier). -La saison estivale est également souvent pluvieuse (près de 10 jours au mois de juillet). Ce genre de climat correspond à la zone USDA 8a et 8b avec des températures minimales en moyenne relevées de -10°.

Ce genre de climat correspond à la zone USDA 9a avec des températures minimales en moyenne relevées de -5°. Type 7 : Le climat du Bassin du Sud-Ouest Le type 7 s'étale sur une zone géographique plutôt disparate située un peu à cheval sur plusieurs territoires (Languedoc et Aquitaine) qui se situe essentiellement sur le bassin moyen de la Garonne que l'on appelle communément "Bassin su Sud-Oouest". Dans cette zones on constate : - Une moyenne annuelle des températures assez élevée (plus de 13°). - Le nombre de jours très chauds est élevé (plus de 23 jours/an). - Les jours de gel inférieurs à -5° sont très rares. - La moyenne annuelle des températures est très élevée (15°). - Les précipitations annuelles sont peu abondantes (moins de 800 mm par an). - Ces dernière sont plus fréquentes pendant la saison hivernale (12 jours en moyenne), alors que pendant la saison estivale, elle sont moindres de l'ordre de 5 jours environ. - Dans cette région les précipitation sont un peu différentes par rapport aux autres régions. En effet, les précipitations hivernales sont assez faibles (précipitations océaniques) pendant que celles de la saison estivale sont plus élevées. Cela est dû aux différentes perturbations orageuses venant de l'Espagne et éventuellement du Golfe de Gascogne. Ce genre de climat correspond à la zone USDA 9b avec des températures minimales en moyenne relevées de -2,5°.

Climats Type 8 : Le climat Méditerranéen franc Le type 8 se trouve sur une bande d'une centaine de kilomètres environ autour de la Méditerranée. Cela commence à partir des Pyrénées et se termine au département du Var. Et à partir de là, la bande se rétrécie à tel point qu'elle finit par disparaitre ou presque pour se diriger au sein des vallées alpines. Les caractéristiques de ce climat sont beaucoup plus tranchées que dans les 7 autres types de climat. Dans cette zone on constate : - Que les températures moyennes annuelle sont élevées. Les jours chauds sont très fréquents, alors que les jours froids sont très rares. - Que l'amplitude interannuelle est très élevée (plus de 17° en moyenne du mois de juillet au mois de janvier). Ces caractéristiques sont assez stables d'une année sur l'autre. - Que les précipitation hivernales sont assez importantes malgré un faible nombre de jours de pluie. Pendant la saison estivale les précipitations sont quasiment nulles étant donné le climat aride de cette période.
