WIP Wednesday: Perfect Strangers

I had wanted to do this for Fictober this year, but couldn't finish it in time for Comte's bday.

However, since his bday falls on a Wednesday this year, this month's WIP Wednesday will be that WIP instead of my usual fare of putting my OCs into situations.

"Your eyes are wandering again, Monsieur."

Comte, shaken out of his reverie, turned back to the lady at the table as she sipped her lemonade. The lady that was going to be his fiancée, he thought with a sigh.

"She's on an errand in town." The lady giggled. "If you stay until evening, you're bound to catch a glance of her before you leave."

"Mademoiselle, forgive my rudeness. It seems my attention lingers elsewhere this afternoon."

"As well as every other time you've visited the manor. If I didn't know any better, I would believe you seek the eye of someone else in this household. My lady maid, perhaps?"

Comte paused, caught red-handed, but she seemed to hold only amusement in her gaze.

"You're not exactly subtle about it, sir."

"…Again, I must ask for your forgiveness-"

"No need. She has a tender heart. It catches your attention in a way nothing else does. Trust me, I understand."

"You do?"

"She's been like an older sister to me for as long as I've known her. And she is easy on the eyes."

"Mademoiselle, I didn't mean-"

"Again, you overestimate your ability to be inconspicuous, especially when it comes to her. It's quite charming."

She folded her hands, resting her chin on their bridge.

"Anyway, we are alone right now, so I would like to discuss some things with you, without the prying ears of my parents and to spare the feelings of my dear maid."

"Yes." Comte cleared his throat. "The venue, perhaps? I have a list of locations that would be-"

"I want to call off the marriage."

"…Pardon?"

"I want to call it off."

"…Mademoiselle?"

"Just as your eyes search for a soul that isn't here at present, I'm afraid I'm just as preoccupied. A lovely baker's daughter in town. My parents would never approve."

"So, we are in the same boat?"

"Loving another when we are supposed to be loving each other? Precisely."

Comte looked down, thinking about their predicament.

"It's the reason I called you here, le Comte." said the lady, "I want to give you my blessing to court my maid, but, circumstances being what they are, we are at an impasse."

She pushed her empty glass aside and pushed forward an envelope.

"However, what's in this envelope might be the solution to our problem."

"What's this?"

"Documents pertaining to my dear maid. How she came into my family's service when she was a young girl. The articles are only part of the story, I'm afraid. I was caught before I could complete my investigation and was reprimanded for digging in places I shouldn't have. Which is why I'm handing them over to you. To finish what I couldn't."

Comte opened the envelope, taking out the old papers with care. Some were ledger copies from the house when the lady was in her infancy, inventory mostly, employment papers, and, oddly enough, what seemed to be personal letters to the lady's father addressed from a person with a woman's name. It wasn't the lady's mother's name either. Comte frowned.

"Specifically, that name mentioned in Father's letters comes up a few times. I would like to find out who she is… or was, if my hunch is correct."

"And if your hunch is correct?"

"Then both of us will get what we want, with some arm twisting along the way."

Now it was Comte's turn to look amused.

"You would do anything for her, wouldn't you?"

"And you wouldn't? After searching for her all this time?"

"I would take down all the stars in the sky and place them in her hands if it would make her smile."

"Good answer." The lady stood up. "I wish you luck in the investigation. Pray that you have more luck than I have been having."

She walked towards the door.

"And, I would appreciate it if you would keep this a secret from [Name]. At least until you finish the search."

"I will. And thank you, mademoiselle."

She smiled.

"I want her to be happy, just as you undoubtedly do. Make her happy, Monsieur, as I know where Father keeps his rifles and his keys."

"…You are quite frightening when you want to be, dear."

"Only when I need to be." She blew him a cheeky kiss and stepped out the room to get more lemonade.

Another month had passed before Comte returned to the little mansion on the hill, hearing the excited, bubbly voice of the lady that had once been his fiancée. She was telling someone with a soft voice about how she wasn't engaged anymore. The gasp of horror from his beloved's lips, while it pulled at his heartstrings to hear her heart ache for her mistress and friend, he also couldn't help but feel proud of his accomplishment.

He had turned around a marriage proposal once aimed at his beloved's mistress now it was a promise he wanted to give to his true beloved, the sweet maid he had danced with once upon a time.

Ok: STORYTIME

Lawrence- break: What would cause your OC to break down completely? What do they look like when that happens? Has anyone ever seen them at their lowest?

The older the vampire, the quirkier- but here's the thing: when it comes to keeping their existential shit together, they do it very well. They've dealt with lifetimes of loss and crap, so they have it DOWN. They'll flip over little stupid stuff but are very good at navigating the life-and-death scenarios. HOWEVER! Being in a relationship with Julian has made Lawrence feel emotions he'd not dealt with for a very long time. He's very aware of his attachment to Julian. He's acutely aware that he's in love with someone mortal and he worries about something bad happening to Julian. The anguish is fierce. Julian has seen Lawrence break down over this and it's heartbreaking. The compromise they reached is that Julian carries a protective amulet with him at all times and they've agreed to revisit the idea of Lawrence turning him or his starting to take a longevity elixir in a couple years.

Sabine-desire: What's one thing your OC wants more than anything in the world? Are they open with that desire? Why or why not? What would they do to fulfill it?

Sabine's desire has always been- without spoiling much- to be independent. She's in a bit of a bind right now and fighting to stand on her own two feet (more to be revealed- plot, not feet...). She thinks of herself as a no-nonsense person and tends to be practical and pragmatic. Working for Hiram has opened her eyes to new experiences and awakened her curiosity. Would she admit that she is experiencing new emotions? That she finds her mind wandering when it comes to Hiram? No. Never. It'll pass, she tells herself.

Jairo-failure: What's your OC's greatest failure? Have they been able to move past it? Does anyone else know about it?

HAHAH! JAIROOOO! Jairo is the kind of person who would try to bake a cake, it would fall apart, and then he would simply serve it as "cake crumble" or something as half-assed and somehow it would be great. If you asked him, he'd tell you that his greatest failure was that he did not manage to convince Mr. Lam to turn Erato Bookstore into a bookstore/petting zoo/crepe cafe.

Everyone else will tell you that Jairo consistently fails at READING THE ROOM.

Henry-guilt: What is your OC guilty about? How do they handle their guilt? Do they try to avoid guilt, or do they accept it?

Henry is honest and straightforward. He's good at articulating his feelings and doesn't usually hold things in. Since his and Lee's move to Tomarang, Henry realized that he did not notice how upset Lee was about uprooting them from San Sequoia, where they had a good life with lots of friends. He thought that because Lee was moving back to Tomarang, and near his family, there would be no qualms. Instead, Lee, who is extremely sensitive, felt insecure and mortified that maybe he'd acted selfishly in wanting to move. Henry felt terrible- and guilty that he hadn't seen the breakdown coming- when Lee opened up about his fears. He accepted the guilt and saw in it a lesson that helped him communicate better with his husband.

Sasha-hide: What does your OC hide? Why do they hide it?

Oh, Sasha... Where do we BEGIN? This boy could be a case study. But...He hides his heart. It's been hurt and broken so much that he has perma-paywalled it more fiercely than some asshole content creators. He can't afford anything to be vulnerable and has rationalized his abrasiveness as a means to survive.

Nia-nightmare: What does your OC have nightmares about? How do they deal with their nightmares? Do they tell people, or keep it to themself?

AAAAAH!!! You remembered NIA!! I love Nia so much! I need to get cracking on Bite Me! so she and Sam can show up more (because they do). Ok, so Nia has been terrified of scary or sad clowns since she was a little kid. Ask Sam about the time they went to SpookyTown on Halloween: Nia screamed more than a D-list actress in a low-budget slasher film anytime a scary clown snuck up on them (but she claimed she was still having fun- go figure). If Nia hasn't been getting enough sleep OR if she overindulges in spicy food late at night, the probability of a clown nightmare skyrockets, and Sam knows they'll be consoling her and rubbing her back later. All their friends know about this because Nia will share the nightmares' outlandish plots with them in these mini-impromptu analytical sessions (Julian especially loves to offer his interpretation of the symbolism behind the imagery, and he and Nia feel oh-so-insightful and smart afterward, while Sam shakes their head in bewilderment)..

Ikevamp Suitors Help You Get Dressed

So! A while ago, I reblogged this gif set from a Russian TV mini series about Anna Karenina, depicting I'm assuming the leading lady and (likely, I don't know the exact details) her lover, Alexei Vronsky, helping her to get dressed. It's a detail not often depicted in media, a husband or lover helping their loved one get dressed, and that gif set, even though I know nothing about the show or about Anna Karenina, just thought it was incredibly sexy of seeing this kind of intimacy shown. It stuck in my head for a bit until I finally decided to apply the idea to the suitors. 

And I did try to stay in the realm of a gender-neutral reader (as clothing does not have a gender, masculine-leaning or non-binary friends can wear corsets and skirts too if they want), but there are likely things that slip past my radar and I'm sorry if I didn't catch them before posting.

Also, a mention of a minor spoiler for Sebastian's entry where I mention he has a sister. She's mentioned in his bday stories, but not in a great amount of detail (as of yet, according to spoilers I've seen. She'll be mentioned more when his route comes out) so there's that.

Napoleon

If you manage to wake him at a decent time (preferably before noon), Napoleon will gladly help you lace into your corset, for a small fee of a good morning kiss. It doesn't take him long to pull on your strings and he can get them sitting right in minutes. He finishes off the tying with a little bow and a second morning kiss because he thinks you look cuter that way, especially the freshly kissed part.

Mozart

Mozart prefers to be quick and efficient most days, so when he helps you dress, he's likely the fastest of the suitors. Though there are times he pulls you a little tighter than he usually does, you're sure to hear your little gasp as the garment is pulled taut. He will loosen it and apologize with a small kiss if you complain though. When he ties you off, he prefers the knot (multiple ones at that) not only for their swift nature, but it's also harder to undo, so some hooligan pulling on your skirts will have a harder time undressing you and sabotaging your dignity.

Leonardo

As many an event can attest, Leonardo prefers to help you 'out' of the corset rather than into it, but he takes pleasure in lacing his cara up most mornings. With a cigarillo between his lips, he goes down your back pulling and settling the laces so they lay flat, giving you the most beautiful figure in the process, you'd think you had stepped out of a painting. He ties you off with a little bow.

Arthur

Another that muchly prefers helping you out of your corset rather than into it, Arthur still finds his pleasures with helping you lace up in the morning. He can never resist running his hands down your sides, the silk gliding across his fingers, a kiss and a whispered tease into your shoulder, maybe an ear nibble if he's feeling especially frisky. He ties you a loose bow, a promise for the two of you later on in the day to continue what that whispered tease suggested.

Vincent

Vincent is excited when you asked him for help lacing up your corset. He sits on his stool partially dressed in only his brown slacks, more eager to help you dress than to fully dress himself. He pulls on the laces gently but firmly, making sure every line of ribbon was resting comfortably on you. He finishes you off with a simple knot, tucking the extra ribbon length in the gap next to your hip, giving your shoulder a light peck and a small compliment about how beautiful you look.

Theo

Another that prefers efficiency in the morning because Mr. Art Dealer Extraordinaire has things to do in the morning, wake up, Hondje! He's likely up before you, pulling your sleepy self out of bed. Before he fully dresses himself, he's pulling up your stockings, slipping your feet into shoes, and wrapping a silky corset around your middle. He'll chuckle quietly and poke your side if you dare to yawn as he's pulling, messing up his rhythm. All in good fun though as he thinks your sleepy face is adorable, especially after he kisses your pout away.

Isaac

Usually one that's good with his hands, you would think that Isaac would be a pro at lacing your ribbons down your back. But, dear reader, let's also not forget how easily flustered he can get, the pink on his cheeks as vibrant as his hair as he stares at your various curves and grooves, or when he feels the warmth of your skin beneath the silky layers. Still, he tries his best to hold everything together, taking his time to make sure the laces lay flat and even, tying you off with a knot. Nice bows are a little complex for him at present, but he'll keep trying until you can get the best bow you deserve.

Jean

Jean is honored when you asked for help lacing up your corset, thinking it something akin to a squire putting armor on their knight. Though he is a little concerned his love has to go out in armor and wasn't taking a weapon with them (sword might be too heavy, perhaps a good sized dagger could fit under their skirts? A weighted baton, perhaps? He could show them some self-defense tactics at the very least) he still tries his best to be your best squire, lacing up as best he can, tying you off with a knot (or multiple ones for the same reason as Mozart, for your protection.)

Dazai

"Oh, Toshiko-san? Do you need some help?" Dazai sees your trouble one morning, laces uneven and you can't reach to tighten them better. Well, he couldn't leave you alone in such a state, certainly not, so he offers his services with your corset. You thank him and the two of you make light conversation, like where you were going so dressed up, what your plans were for the day. It was a far more pleasant start to the day rather than being tangled in seemingly endless ribbons. The only downside was your mini heart-attack when he sat on your window sill when he left, falling backwards and gracefully grabbing and climbing to his next destination.

Shakespeare

He's had his fair share of helping others change clothes, so his experience in theatre is vital in helping his love dress in the morning. His hair loosely tied up, he helps pull up your socks and slip on your shoes in quick time. With your corset, he manages just as easily as his costumed actors, though with slight more difficulty as there are more layers and different materials to contend with here. At least at home, he can take his time lacing up his favorite star performer rather than dealing with a rushed presentation and abject misery of time robbed to satisfy an imaginary standard neither of you wanted to abide by. For his own ease, however, he ties the corset lace off with a bow, so later on his time would be better spent with you quickly being able to undress rather than fussing with being perfect for others. 

Comte

Given his penchant to buy you entire wardrobes full of the clothes, it's not really surprising he would sneak in some back-lacing corsets, because his chérie deserves the full turn of the century dressing experience, if they so desire to, of course. When you ask him to help you put one on, he's delighted, hoping you would ask him at some point. He takes his time, making sure the laces were nice and even, tying you off in a simple knot and giving a neck kiss for good luck.

Sebastian

Growing up with a sister, he's had his fair share of helping them get dressed up if there was a fancy party going on. So, it was no surprise at how quick and efficient  he is with helping you dress, as he is with all matters concerning the vampire household. He makes light conversation, telling you what he knew of the history of corsetry, and that he had some strong words for the perpetrators of extreme tight-lacing rumors and the horrible after-effects it's had on the garment's reputation in the later centuries. When he finishes lacing you up, you'll have the most stunning figure and be the most comfortable you've felt wearing fancy clothes. Sebas would be proud, bowing to show his thanks for your compliments.

Vlad

One that isn't that great at getting up in the morning, Vlad's more likely to send you to Charles to help you dress, but today his floricică was insistent. With a yawn, he sat up in bed, his deep red eyes still full of sleep. He moves to the edge, having you stand between his legs as he methodically moves down your back, straightening and pulling where needed. When he ties you off, he pulls you close and falls back onto the bed, refusing to release you despite the squirming. It was your punishment for waking him so early.

Faust

The other one that would sooner send you to Charles to help you dress, he fairs better than Vlad, standing up while putting on his glasses. He makes minor complaints about beauty standards being inherently foolish, especially when it makes dressing one's self overly complicated. Your bone structure and muscle to fat ratios were fine in his eyes, so he really saw no need for the corset and petticoats. He even briefly considered offering to use his scalpel on you, but humans don't heal as quickly for his liking as vampires do, if they did recover at all, and like he said, he likes your proportions where they were. The matter was left alone with a kiss and a promise of strong coffee.

Charles

The usual early riser that helps the other residents wake up, Charles is ecstatic with the idea of helping you get dressed in the morning. Sometimes a little too eager with the first few times tying you just a tad too tight. He'll immediately apologize and loosen the laces, giving your neck a little kiss to show he's sorry. He ties you off with a bow because he likes you to look cute.

what of her own wishes? she turned away from him, pulled away, multiple times, and he killed all his morals to steal her when she had never asked for such a sick thing

his greed and selfishness turned her into a dream with no will or dimension of her own

Still got a couple more of these in the works, so here's our next hypothetical Adventure Zone platform fighter, hailing from Graduation, it's Rainer Michelle!

Rainer is at her best while she's able to keep her opponents at a distance, and thanks to her necromantic abilities she has plenty of ranged and disjointed attacks that allow her to do just that.

Rainer's neutral special has a dancing squirrel skeleton emerge from a hatch on her chair. The squirrel keeps moving as long as the button is held, turning around when encountering edges. Once the button is released, the squirrel explodes into bone shrapnel, damaging nearby foes.

Rainer's side special fires a stream of acid that pierces foes. The hit itself doesn't do damage, but instead coats foes in acid that steadily does damage. Acid can be shaken off by moving around.

Rainer's down special spawns a gravestone directly below her. If an opponent steps on it, skeletal arms burst forth, doing damage and briefly holding them in place. Spawning a second gravestone causes the previous one to vanish.

Rainer's up special will launch her chair in the direction held, doing a small hit. More importantly though, Rainer will then levitate where she ends up for several moments or until another button is pressed.

Rainer's finale summons the Skeleton Crew from Hieronymous Wiggenstaff's School for Heroism and Villainy, AKA Germaine, Victoria, and Rattles. The three skeletons will pursue different targets if possible, or go after the nearest target if all opponents are already pursued.

WIP Wednesday: Sugar and Spice and ...?-NSFW

Final WIP Wednesday for 2023! Whoo! Ending on a strong note, I think!

This little nugget was inspired by both my disappointment in the Bride of the Vampire Event and the (more satisfying to me personally) Home Sweet Home Event and I sort of put the two together, with a spicy twist. Maybe later on I'll try to explore more of this universe bc I like this AU and would like to do some more in the future, but for now, this is what I've got thus far.

Notes: Raw, unedited writing, unfinished (cuts off at the last part bc I ran out of steam), threesome relationship, afab reader addressed with feminine pronouns (she, her, etc), pregnant reader, breeding, use of French and Italian when I know neither language so some usage is bound to be wrong, I've tried my best with language blogs and machine translation, Comte and Leo flirting (yes, that is a warning).

"Hey, Comte." Leonardo said to him one morning, "let's make a bet."

"Hmm. What kind of bet?"

"Who do you think [Name]'s kid will resemble more, you or me?"

Comte set down the newspaper he was reading, his fingers steepling.

"We've had her so many times since that first time, it's up to fate as to who her body accepted at this point. Assuming one of us didn't cheat and had some extra time with her, it should be about equal."

"Cheat? Definitely didn't do that a time or two. Nope."

"Of course, you didn't. Just as much as I didn't as well."

"Of course not."

The knowing smiles they gave each other conveyed neither their innocence or their guilt.

"Well, I was the first to take her, so the odds are in my favor." Comte smirked.

"Still haven't forgiven you for that, you know."

"You stole her first kiss. You know better than anyone that I wouldn't let a transgression like that stand for long."

"Heh, didn't peg you for the petty jealous type."

Comte sipped some of his morning tea, a floral scent wafting in the air.

"We share a wonderful, beautiful wife now, Leonardo." he paused, "but seeing her with another man, even if it's you… it seems my claws come out on their own." 

Leonardo laughed.

"The feeling's mutual. Cara mia loves both of us, but can't help but want to pull her into my arms and whisk her away when you're being sweet on her."

"Try it and I really will sink my claws into you."

"Attaccati al cazzo, bastardo."

"En fait," Comte shrugged with a smirk. "je préfère baiser ma femme que toi."

Leonardo growled, reaching out across the table.

"Oh, good morning, you two!" a voice called out in the doorway, a sweet scent tickling the noses of the two vampires. Leonardo pulled his hand back.

"Bonjour, ma cherie." Comte said with a smile, holding his hand out towards you.

"Ciao, bella." Leonardo said, standing up.

Once you were close enough to take his hand, Comte kissed your fingers reverently while Leonardo wrapped an arm around your shoulders, his lips taking a gentle nip at your cheek. You giggled.

"How are you feeling?" Comte asked, still holding onto your hand.

"Better, thank you. Still a little tired though."

"It's to be expected." Comte reached out his free hand, brushing your hair back with his long, graceful fingers. "but you do have a healthy glow about you. That's a good sign."

Leonardo's large hand also slid down your form, pressing it just under your belly, as if weighing it against his palm. "Hmm, still flat."

"It's barely been four months." You said.

"And here I was hoping you'd be stealing my clothes by now. Well, more than you already do."

"Leo!"

"No, there's some change. I'm sure of it." Comte interjected, also putting his hand on your belly, as if measuring you like Leonardo had.

"It's okay, Comte," you said gently, "it's still early so you don't have to-"

"I can see it, cherie." Comte reassured you with a smile. "in fact, I think I can see it right… here!"

Without further warning, his fingers danced on your belly, making you laugh and try to step back.

"H-hey! That tickles!"

You had forgotten, however, that Leonardo still held your shoulders.

"Actually, Comte's right." he grinned mischievously, "I think I did feel a little something… here!"

His fingers-rough, calloused, and warm- tickled under your belly, making you laugh harder.

"No fair! You're ganging up on me!"

"Maybe you'll grow faster if we tickle you enough," Leonardo teased.

"That's not how that works-!"

Leonardo's fingers had sank down further, the thin linen of your nightgown the only thing between you and his digits. He smirked.

"Forget something, cara mia?"

You looked away, biting your lip.

"…It was your fault." You said. "Both of you."

It was Comte's turn to smirk.

"We did make a mess of you last night, didn't we?"

The twin bite marks on your neck sung, making you shift against Leonardo's fingers. You shuddered at the memory.

"Couldn't help ourselves." said Leonardo, rubbing his index finger up and down. "Hearing you scream so sweetly…"

"Melting under our touch," Comte reached up for your jaw, caressing it. "Every part of you flushed and glowing."

His fingers traced a line down your body, feather-like touches falling down your collarbone, between your breasts, staying once they found your stomach again.

"So full of our seed.  Seeing it drip between your legs…"

You shifted against Leonardo's fingers again, feeling a dampness against your nightgown.

"You're remembering it, aren't you, cara mia?" Leonardo whispered in your ear, his voice low and husky.  "How it felt to be so full of us."

You shuddered, taking in a sharp breath to try and calm yourself, but failed, feeling Leonardo nuzzle your neck. Comte then stood up, leaning in closer to you, kissing your jaw gingerly, trailing with his lips until he found yours. When he released you with a pop, your lips felt swollen and pink.

"I think she needs a reminder, Leonardo. It's been ages, after all."

"A top-off so soon?" Leonardo chuckled, "Insatiable, aren't you? Only been a couple of hours."

"I think myself more of a generous gentleman, thank you." He reached down for his pants and unbuttoned himself with practiced ease. When he was done, he pulled your skirt up around your waist and kissed your cheek.

"Ready for me, cherie?"

You bit your lip, but nodded. He kissed your forehead this time, lining his hips with yours, his tip gliding on one pass before plunging into you hard and fast. You shuddered and moaned, grabbing onto his shoulders. Leonardo growled low in your ear, making Comte chuckle.

"Learn some patience, will you? You'll get your turn."

"Oh yeah?"

Leonardo tilted your head towards him, stealing your lips and inserting his tongue, teasing your tongue and teeth. His other hand cupped your breast, rolling and massaging the nipple between his rough fingers. You moaned against his lips, the volume muffled. Comte frowned, his hands sliding down your hips, pulling you closer to him. He then reached for your other breast, lifting it and teased the underside with his tongue. A whine escaped between your lips, trapped by Leonardo's, but it was enough to make Comte smirk.

"Do you feel good, cherie?" he asked, "Do we make you feel good?"

Leonardo released your lips, wet strings trailing between you as you both panted for air. Once he was sure you caught your breath, Comte thrust into you again, the full volume of your scream like music to his ears. Leonardo held you securely, peppering kisses along your neck.

"Almost there, mon cœur. "

I watched Castlevania: Nocturne the otger day and liked it a lot less than you seemed to, so I want to hear a more detailed opinion if you have one. Am I in the wrong to think it was more shounen and less "deep" in some way?

I'd say it's definitely more shounen. Introducing the "Richter can't do magic because unresolved trauma" thing right from the jump meant a Believing In Yourself powerup was pretty much inevitable, but I liked the execution of that scene enough that I didn't mind much.

It doesn't quite have the backbone of the original Castlevania, which was grounded so strongly in Dracula's apocalyptic grief - a motivation the audience is directed to find deeply understandable from minute one - that it gave the characters a solid thematic core to play off of. This let the writing stay pretty tight by letting Trevor serve as a foiling mirror for Dracula in their mutual disgust with the failures of human kindness, Sypha for Lisa in their altruistic use of their knowledge and their vilification for "witchcraft", and Alucard in the middle torn between worlds.

Nocturne is more loose and character-driven, but it still has a core theme - the argument over "the natural order" and how that plays into a fear of change from those currently on top. However, Richter doesn't really have a horse in that race, since his motivation starts and ends at Kill Vampires while everyone around him is more complex, trying to overthrow the aristocracy and free the enslaved and such. I think this makes Richter feel a little less important than Trevor was, narratively, because he sort of stands apart from the core philosophical debate at play. It took me a few episodes to get what his deal was and start caring about his self-actualization, and I think he's definitely got further to go. Possibly Alucard's presence in season 2 will give him more to play off of.

I think Nocturne has several independently interesting villains instead of one really good villain, which is a complaint I also saw about Castlevania season 4 - I liked Death just fine, but he really didn't work for everyone, and the secondary villains like Saint Germaine were much more interesting and complex. Nocturne does, however, pull off something Castlevania didn't as much, which is most of the characters acting on their own internal consistent motivation without cleanly falling into the "good guy" or "bad guy" box, causing them to slide into and out of conflicts and alliances depending on the circumstances.

I feel like Bathory is kind of a weak core villain with almost no human-level motivations or ideas beyond General Villainy, and the extent of her development being a darkest hour shonen villain powerup/frieza transformation doesn't help much, which is why I'm kind of holding out hope that they just bite the bullet and bring back Dracula. He's the nemesis from the Castlevania games, and while they gave him and Lisa a happy ending in Castlevania season 4, I don't think they need to keep him on the bench forever. It's been 300 years, Lisa is almost certainly long dead again and Dracula doesn't need to be full Mad With Vengeance Burn Down The World to still be a credible problem in need of a little Belmonting.

I had fun with season 1 of Nocturne with the understanding that the first four-episode "season" of Castlevania wasn't representative of the final shape of the story either. Sypha's character, for instance, was very flat before she and the gang went on their season 2 bonding adventure, not much more than some banter and infodumps. I think Nocturne did solid setup of the cast and the theme they'll be unpacking, and it has lots of room to explore these characters in interesting ways once they energy-ball-tennis Bathory out of the way first.

Day 13 of Christmas

Under the twinkling Christmas lights of Paris, Kylian and his beloved Y/n strolled hand in hand through the festive market. The air was filled with the sweet scent of roasted chestnuts and the joyful melodies of holiday carols. "So, first Christmas in Paris. What better way to spend it than walking around with me under sparkly lights, eh?" Kylian asked as he swung their hands around as they walked. Y/n chuckled in response. "I couldn't think of anything better." She gleamed, looking up and sharing a small kiss with her boyfriend.

As they meandered through the charming stalls filled to the brim with ornaments and trinkets, Kylian couldn't help but steal glances at Y/n's delighted expression. Her eyes sparkled with the reflection of the dazzling lights, and her laughter harmonized with the festive cheer around them.

They paused near a carousel surrounded by bright, festive colors. Kylian's gaze lingered on Y/n as she marveled at the carousel's whimsical charm. He wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close, as they enjoyed the enchanting scene together. "It's so beautiful, isn't it?" Y/n said as Kylian rested his chin atop her head. "It is and it's only better when you're here." Y/n looked up again. "You become more romantic during Christmas, have you noticed that?" Kylian chuckled and took her gloved hand again. "Come on, let's go look at some more things."

The couple explored the market, savoring warm crepes and sipping on steaming cups of mulled wine. Each booth offered a unique treasure, and Kylian and Y/n found joy in sharing these moments of discovery.

Amidst the lively crowd, they stumbled upon a vendor selling handmade Christmas ornaments. Y/n's eyes lit up at the sight of a delicate homemade garland. "This would be beautiful in the apartment." Y/n smiled as she showed him. Kylia nodded in agreement. "Then we will buy it." Kylian smiled and began speaking to the stall owner about the garland, before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a fifty euro note to pay. Once the garland was bagged and Kylian received his change, the couple linked arms and set off once again, to venture deeper into the market.

As they continued their festive adventure, Kylian and Y/n found themselves beneath a breathtaking archway of lights. The dazzling display created a magical canopy above them, casting a warm glow on their faces. "I know, you say I get a lot more romantic in Christmas but I just need to tell you that I love the lights sparkling in your eyes. It just makes me love you even more." Kylian whispered, captivated by the moment. "You are very corny." Y/n replied as their foreheads rested off one another. "I don't know what that means and I don't care. I just wanted you to know."

The Christmas market in Paris became a backdrop for the couple's shared memories, a mosaic of lights and laughter that would forever be etched in their hearts. As the night unfolded, Kylian and Y/n embraced the enchantment of the season, reveling in the joy of love amidst the festive beauty of the City of Lights.

Louis XIII and his cooking adventures 🍴🥞

When it comes to our Louis XIII cult, I often refer to the king's iconic omelettes, but what about his other stuff? For example, he really loved sweets (like beignets or jams), but could he also cook them? The answer is YES, and that's not even all yet!

Louis was a curious child who's head was already filled with various interests and cooking became one of them when he was only ten years old at the time (which is quite unusual for a king). First ever case of the king cooking was recorded on february 11th of 1611, when he was preparing milk soups for the Duchess of Guise / Catherine of Cleves. So milk soup, most likely, could be Louis' very first dish made by himself!

Of course many kids have a sweet tooth and our precious omelette king was not an exception which I guess is why he started to learn how to cook mostly from recipes of sweets. Also, take a shot every time I say "sweets" or "cooking" (don't..) 🕊️

So, among 17th century royal sw- *ahem* DESSERTS we had in our menu – a jam, quince jelly, beignets (basically french donuts) and marzipans. In a well-known, among many of y'all Louis stalkers, journal of his doctor Jean Héroard I found some clear evidence of Louis XIII cooking some of these himself, so here it is feat. me periodically panicking over my own translation because my half-french friend is too busy atm and I don’t wanna bother them:

June 6th, 1611 — «He walks through the corridor from the study to the paneled gallery where he had an oven for making jams, he is amused to see how it's done.» I know it's not exactly him cooking, but I just wanted to leave it here :")

October 15th, 1612 — «Madame comes to see him; he has fun making jam with Mademoiselle de Vendôme»

January 29th, 1613 — «He often has fun making almond milk and marzipans at Madame's house.»

March 6th, 1615 — «It was very cold; he goes to the kitchen, makes omelettes, beignets, fried eggs; it was he who made them and ate a little of that he tasted.» Pretty sure the last few words could be translated better because it's always rather my terrible french or a little confusing way of Héroard's writing, so feel free to correct me.

February 3rd, 1616 — «He is preparing a small snack of dry jam for the queen, who must come to him at two o'clock. After going back to bed, he happily forms various battalions of his little silver men.»

February 5th, 1622 — «He leaves Saint-Germain, goes to Pontoise, where he enjoys making and eating beignets; while dining at Cormeille, he suddenly goes to the goblet in which he makes little cream puffs.» The original text says «petits choux au lait» and I have no idea what could that exactly be, but it seems like some sort of little éclair-like buns made of milk? Little cream puffs?? Maybe by «choux au lait» Jean meant «choux à la crème» which were invented back in 1540 in France.

I know you've been waiting for the quince jelly too, but unfortunately I couldn't find anything about the jelly :c Though, judging by what we've got here It's still quite possible Louis could cook quince jelly as well, hmm... Anyways, if you know something I don't know of the jelly mystery, hit me up!

In the future, this great love for desserts will be inherited by his son Philippe I, Duke of Orléans (brother of Louis XIV), who is also a very interesting character in history!!

In conclusion I must say that Louis not only had a sweet tooth, but also a big love for trying out different things, all this curiosity and pure excitement, even when it comes to something so simple and familiar like food, will never ever stop to fascinate me :"D
