This reply was in response to my post about how I am disgusted with Trump and his disregard/racism to those protesting and rioting about the tragic loss of Gerorge Floyd. 

You, along with people who agree with this sentiment, are tone deaf and disgusting. How dare you suggest that I haven’t been paying attention to the entirety of Trump’s presidency? You are insinuating that the behavior from the leader of the country I live in is behavior that I should get used to, and the notion that I need to get used to the constant incarceration and killing of MY people, BLACK people, is fucking disgusting. 

I am BLACK. I live in a world where at any moment, I can be KILLED for no reason by anyone who is racist. I live in a world where anti-blackness is prevalent in ALL cultures around the world. I live in a world where I have to constantly live in fear that every time I see my black friends, it might be the last fucking time, and you want to sit here and fucking tell me that I haven’t been paying attention. 

I can’t fucking afford to not pay attention to the political climate of this country. I can and WILL cost me my fucking life. I am fucking BLACK. I was born with dark skin and so my entire life I had to be raised KNOWING that the entire world fucking HATES me because of one of the ONLY things I can’t fucking change about myself. I had to grow up knowing that the police, along with almost all authority figures, think my life doesn’t fucking matter. 

I will express my disgust with this abomination of a president until I fucking die. I will express my disgust with racists until I fucking die. I will express my disgust with the fact that racism is so engrained into society that I cannot escape it no matter WHICH corner of the Earth I go to until I fucking die. I REFUSE to become complacent with the fact that my life OBJECTIVELY means less to the people who are in charge of the nation that I live in. 

Instead of seeing a Black person make an angry post about the mistreatment and public executions of the people in their community and telling them that they “aren’t paying attention” in response to their anger, how about you go back and reflect on yourself and YOUR values and ask yourself why the FUCK are you not?

Ayrıca şiddetin de kınanmasına vurgu yaparken, geçmişteki bazı temel dersleri de anlattı.

Protestoların yıllar süren polis uygulamalarında daha geniş ceza ve adalet sisteminde reform yapılmamasından kaynaklandığını yazan Obama, “şiddete başvuranlar kınanmalı“ dedi.

ABD eski Başkanı Barack Obama, protestoları haklı görerek, kamuoyunun farkındalığını artırmak, adaletsizliğe dikkati çekmek ve rahatsız edici güçleri ortaya koymak gerektiğini de eklerken, bu arzuların da belirli yasalara ve kurumsal uygulamalara dönüştürülmesi gerektiğini belirtti.

‘Federal hükümeti değiştirmek önemlidir’

Polis departmanlarında ceza ve adalet sistemlerinin reform yapılarak düzenlenmesinin seçilmiş yetkililerin eyalet ve yerel düzeyde olabileceğinin mümkün olduğuna işaret eden Obama, “Gerçek bir değişim istiyorsak, seçim, protesto ve siyaset arasında değildir, her ikisini de yapmalıyız,” dedi.

Öte yandan Barack Obama, cezaların ve polis yetkilerinde ne kadar özel davranılması gerektiği isteğinde bulunulursa, seçilmişlerin yetkiye dudak hizmeti vermesinin ve protestoların bitmesi sonrasında her zamanki işlerine dönmeleri de o derecede zor olduğunu açıkladı.

ABD’li Obama, somut adımların atılabileceğini açıklarken, bu adımların nasıl yapılması gerektiğini anlatan ve mücadele verilebilecek bir alan için site kurduğunu belirterek https://www.obama.org/anguish-and-action/ adresinin linkini paylaştı ve orada protestoya ilişkin yazılar, eşi Michelle Obama’nın da George Floy’un fotoğraflarından paylaşımlar yer alıyor.

Son olarak da son birkaç ayın zor ve sinir bozucu olduğundan bahsederken, gençlerin de artan aktivizmini takip ettiğini ve bu sebeple de umutlandığını belirtti. Obama barışçıl mesajını şu satırlarla sonlandırdı:

“Eğer haklı öfkemizi barışçıl, sürekli ve etkili eyleme yönlendirmeye devam edebilirsek, bu gerçek değişimin başladığı an olabilir.”
