So judging by what little we do know the Barbie movie is trying to be a live-action girly pop version of the Lego Movie including Will Ferrel as a CEO. Weird but even if it’s copying a more well-established movie, hopefully it’ll be better at it than the Emoji and Playmobil movies certainly.

Hate me for this but NONE of the actors should've gotten a nomination for Barbie. Not Ryan, not Margot, nip, nada, nil.

This is not the movie for nuanced acting, these characters were written to be caricatures. Ryan and Margot were playing dolls, not people, as it should be in a Barbie movie. They did a great job at it. But none of these rolls were for the Oscars.

Gerta Gerwig... maybe. That's another conversation. But yeah, that's my take.

What I like the most about Barbie's movie trailer, is that it looks reminiscent of older live action movies where the characters are still allowed to have fun and be colorful, like Scooby-Doo. Barbie certainly would not fit in a Riverdale-esque scenario!

YES!! EXACTLY!!

Barbie doesn't need to have on-screen sex or do drugs to appeal to the audience! Not only that would be OoC for her brand of girly doll, it would also be too bland and cliché.

I didn't had high hopes for a live action Barbie movie, but I was instantly sold when the trailer starts off with an abridged version of how the doll came to be, and the idea behind her.

Barbie was born at a time where the girly toys available were only baby dolls, and Ruth Handler, being inspired by her daughter's paper dolls and a german doll called Bild Lilli, would craft an adult-bodied doll, thus introducing a variety of roles for little girls to play that weren't exclusively related to being a housewife.

I also absolutely adore how she's introduced as the monolith from 2001: A Space Oddysey; really goes to show how camp this movie will be.

Plus, you can really tell that Gerta Gerwig understood the assignment, because this striped one-piece swimsuit was exactly the outfit that the very first Barbie doll was wearing in the 1959 commercial.

By the way, did you know that "Barbie" and "Ken" were named after Ruth's children, Barbara and Kenneth? I actually find that really sweet.

beauty and the beast was the first animated film to ever be nominated for best picture which made a lot of history bc animation wasnt really taken as a serious form of storytelling

despite being the highest grossing film, avatar has zero cultural impact

keira knightley and natalie portman are often mistaken for each other and thats actually what jumpstarted keira knightley’s career. the casting director saw that the two girls looked rly similar and cast keira to play the handmaiden in the star wars prequel where natalie was playing queen amidala. looking like a celebrity will get u places

at one of the oscars (i think it was the one two years ago) emma stone (or another white actress i forgot lmfao) made a comment like “four men and gerta gerwig” to highlight the gender disparity in oscar nominated directors. this was actually done in poor taste despite being praised on the internet bc one of the directors nominated was jordan peele. in history only five/six female directors have ever been nominated BUT only five/six black directors have also been nominated. basically. put some respect on mr peele’s name. he deserves to be mentioned too

in the film ‘pretty woman’, the story was originally much darker. vivian was written to be a drug addict and the story was going to be centred around her agreeing not to do drugs while in,, (richards? i forgot his name) company. the execs didn’t like this and sprung for a happier storyline. it benefitted the movie

another pretty woman fact, the title was originally $3000. the amount vivian was meant to be paid

in the opening scene of the godfather, don corleone is stroking a cat. this was actually improvised! marlon brando found the stray on set and fell in love. the director kept it in bc of that whole “calculating villains cuddling cute cat” trope. come to think of it, i think this is where the trope originated

grace kelly is one of the most iconic actresses of golden age hollywood and yet only has a career spanning six years. she retired after marrying the prince of monaco and becoming a princess. good for her

martin scorsese (director of taxi driver and goodfellas) is against the addition of netflix films being nominated at the oscars (only movies which have been released theatrically can qualify for an academy award) but the success of roma (a netflix film which swept the oscars) may mean we can see more netflix films in the oscars
