the final verdict on decomytree: it’s an excuse to advertise an ai app, and to ask for money. developers are scummy, but as long as you don’t download any of the shit associated with it or give them money, you’re likely fine 👍 signed, your local computer scientist
edited to reflect that both versions of the decomytree app (android and apple) seem to come from their respective app stores now.

Watched a video about these "AI assistants" that Meta has launched with celebrity faces (Kendall Jenner, Snoop Dogg etc.). Somebody speculated/mentioned in the comments that eventually Meta wants to sell assistant apps to companies, but that makes ... no sense.
If they mean in the sense of a glorified search engine that gives you subtly wrong answers half the time and can't do math, sure - not that that's any different than the stuff that already exists (????)
But if they literally mean assistant, that's complete bogus. The bulk of an assistant's job is organizing things - getting stuff purchased, herding a bunch of hard-to-reach people into the same meeting, booking flights and rides, following up on important conversations. Yes, for some of these there's already an app that has automated the process to a degree. But if these processes were sufficiently automated, companies would already have phased out assistant positions. Sticking a well-read chat bot on top of Siri won't solve this.
If I ask my assistant to get me the best flight to New York, I don't want it to succeed 80 % of time and the rest of the time, book me a flight at 2 a.m. or send me to New York, Florida or put me on a flight that's 8 hours longer than necessary. And yes, you can probably optimize an app + chat bot for this specific task so it only fails 2 % of the time.
But you cannot optimize a program to be good at everything–booking flights, booking car rentals, organizing catering, welcoming people at the front desk and basically any other request a human could think off. What you're looking for is a human brain and body.
Humans can improvise, prioritize, make decisions, and, very importantly, interact freely with the material world. Developing a sufficiently advanced assistant is a pipe dream.

“boycotts work” in response to starbucks apparently losing money like… okay work to do what??? what has starbucks done, in response to losing money due to the boycott, to stop materially supporting israel? well. they weren’t materially supporting israel in the first place, were they. like perhaps i missed something in all of this but if i’m not mistaken it started because of them suing union members who posted about supporting palestine? which sucks! but… what is the express goal of boycotting them? punish them for being in support israel? sure! a perfectly good reason not to spend your money at starbucks! there’s PLENTY of good reasons not to give starbucks your money im all for, in general, not financially supporting them. but you can’t say a boycott “worked” if there was no goal in the first place. beyond making them lose money. you’re supposed to make them lose money SO THAT THEY WILL DO SOMETHING. starbucks is not a part of the official bds boycott list! mcdonald’s was added but starbucks still hasn’t been! because again. there is no clear goal. AND YET it’s the most “popular” thing to boycott. bc everyone can feel like they’re participating bc it’s *starbucks* and yeah you’re not buying HP or puma products every day to begin with but not buying your starbucks drink makes you feel like you’re doing something.

Hi! I was just wondering where you were watching the lives and stuff. Do you buy the cds or use a streaming service or some secret third option I can’t think of right now? Tbh I’ve been living off of your scraps of hypmic content since I don’t know where to find it other than on yt. Thank you for your time, have a wonderful day/night! :)
hypmic is basically partnered with abema, and they tend to host most of hypmic’s events, lives, stages, etc!!!! i have an iphone and occasionally use a laptop when it feels like functioning long enough for me to watch content lol, so idk semantics between each device, but ik that abema content can only be accessed through a vpn and the app itself is region locked to japan
it’s also paid content so be ready to shill if you want more lol!!!! I haven’t actually tried to buy content on pc, but with my iphone, i used to have a separate jp itunes account where i’d buy jp itunes gift cards and use those as my method of payment. i was fortunate enough to have downloaded the app while i was in japan a bit ago, so now i’m able to use apple pay for purchases lol
i can only provide help with apple related stuff lol, but if you want to take that leap into buying shit from abema, i’ll be happy to make a tutorial lol
