hot take but. oda is honestly one of the most interesting prominent side characters in y0 to me. like. don’t get me wrong obviously i don’t condone his actions, but speaking as a character design guy, i think he’s got a whole lot of complexity to think about in his story and identity that people tend to ignore/overlook because he’s not a black and white “good” person. like no shit he’s morally fucked, that doesn’t mean his intense pining and crazed level of dedication to tachibana and the lengths all his guilt and repressed love for the man he saw as the best thing to ever grace his life drove him to aren’t interesting to think about– if anything it makes him more interesting. he was. really something

#tl;dr preview i think what's going on is kind of a conflict between differing tastes in terms of Level Of Character Depth In Units #caused by the franchise's struggle with balancing the blorbo genre of emergent gameplay #it's definitely stupid to act as if character depth and intensive backstories are somehow exclusive to 3H #and all other FEs run on flat gimmick characters #BUT ALSO it's stupid to act like FE hasn't historically also run on flat gimmick characters #because the fact is that flat gimmick characters are just what happens in any game where the cast is too damn big #and the game doesn't have the colossal space needed to give everybody depth #+ the franchise's permadeath mechanics tend to impede the writers' ability to develop said units anyway #in 3H's case i would argue that it also has a problem with faux depth where the writers WANT it to be complicated and deep #but also it's REALLY goddamn obvious that they're interested in some parts of their story more than other #and that they bit off way way WAY more than they could chew when it comes to building their fantasy world #and these other issues just compound the problems that normally come with 'too big cast in a game where permadeath real' #it is kind of a sad reality that someone would fall into 'the players have to make up their depth' eventually #because it's just kinda impossible to develop *EVERYONE* if you don't have infinite ongoing serialized story space #but there are ways of managing that cast scope creep that the FE writers aren't quite good at wrangling #do to the aforementioned conflicts of interest in mechanics and general care #engage i haven't actually played yet or watched somebody else play so the best i've got is 'it's fun trash/trashy fun' #so i can't judge how it handles its own cast scope creep #but i get the impression that it falls back to flat characters and generic plot #which obviously isn't going to be very filling if you prefer meatier narratives and characters #but that's just how the nightmare tightrope of cast scope creep rolls

Quil you eat so healthy every time you answer my asks i am like wow i should be more like Quil! Does your family just not buy junk food or do you not care for it generally? Or both?

Kinda both, but we do buy and eat "junk" food! I don't want to give the impression that I'm some sort of food purist who cuts out anything "unnatural" or processed or anything like that. Balance is healthy and food is fuel

We buy things like frozen pizzas and chicken nuggets and chips and things generally considered "junk," we just buy it in moderation alongside other foods. Because generally, our favorite foods and recipes are ones that involve a lot of fruits, veggies, the "healthier" things, and we can afford to eat those. But it's convenient to have quick meals sometimes, and there's nothing wrong with them or with enjoying them. Some "junk" foods do just taste good!

I do personally prefer fresher things; I know a lot of people with sensory issues have trouble with fruits and veggies, but I just happen to not be one of them. I love the texture and flavor of fresh fruit and veggies, and the natural colors are incredibly appealing--that's one of the reasons I don't eat as much "junk" food, it literally just doesn't look as good so it's not as high in my rankings. Things like burgers and fries and nuggets and pizza aren't colorful enough, they're so beige

What's "junk" and what's "healthy" is subjective, and the healthier thing is to have a balance and not restrict yourself. Yes, I'm fortunate enough to have consistent access to fresh produce and nutrient rich foods, and my favorite foods are from those categories--which is why they've come up more, because you've been asking about them. But that's not all I eat! I do eat healthily, and that includes "junk" foods from time to time.
