It's so random that I'm even thinking on this now but I remain fascinated. It never occurred to me at the time that when Rio basically forces Beth to take on the strip club he is also proclaiming pretty loudly that he thinks she's capable of handling it and recognizing her past accomplishments. jess is dog coded but he has the entire personality of a feral rescued cat that doesnt know how to meow and so hisses and yowls at everything even after its calmed down and domesticated. any disappointment I’m feeling is 100% in the network having clearly shafted the amount of time they deserved to have to tell this story. It’s on Max for cutting an hour away from this season. But you’re telling me people are disappointed in the story?? I’m sitting here feeling bad for being disappointed that the story was truncated and clearly could have used more time to breathe but still thinking they did a great job of making the most of very limited time to still tell a full beautiful story, and people are complaining about the story itself?? Anon! I'm a 'they'd never say it out loud' truther, haha. Like, this is a couple who broke into each other's houses and scrolled through a bleeding man's phone to find out each other's names instead of asking one another and personally that just means so much to me.

I think they'd tell each other in other ways though - in ways that echo that genuine connection we saw in the show, like in Rio going back to get her daughter's blanket from the drug dealer's house, or in the way Beth, despite herself, held her tongue and protected him after Mick shot her.

For me at least, it kind of boils down to the fact that Beth and Rio have such loud lives betwen kids and crime and work. There are so many demands for both of their time and attention, and I love the thought that they can be quiet together. They can share a drink, they can kiss in the clean light of day in odd socks, they can stare at each other over the churn of a printing press and it can feel like something warm and intimate and safe, even though it shouldn't.

I think for both of them, love is something that's given, but it's also something that's felt, so I think they do receive it even if the words themselves aren't said, and the idea of them finding those moments in the future make me insane, haha. Like maybe it's in the tender time given to lay stitches in a shoulder, or in picking a kid up from school when the other's out on a job, or in the knowledge that when things start to fall apart, they won't, because whatever's between them is stronger than that now. The love is felt, the love is done, so maybe it doesn't even need to be said, y'know? After all, especially for a character like Beth who's been married to a character like Dean, often times words mean less than actions.

I have been doing my own gg rewatch. Now in final episode of season 4 and wondering how I missed how the scene of Nick & Rio in the car really shows what a really horribly evil, duplicitous shit Nick is. Like we already knew he was bad but he really let's it all hang out there, unfiltered.

I think on earlier watching a I was focused on what was going to happen when Rio missed the meeting.
