Ghost Zelda from Spirit Tracks! I miss this game so much. I played it when I was arround 10 years old and it brings back so many good memories of back then.
I want a remake for Switch of this game too...

Febuwhump Day 23 (“You’ll have to go through me”): Demonic Possession (But Like. In Reverse.)
ao3 link
Zelda wouldn’t pretend she wasn’t relieved their adventure was over. It might have been fun at times, travelling all over New Hyrule with Link in his train, but it had also been terrifying and stressful at times, and she’d sometimes worried that she’d never get her body back. Even now, she still sometimes felt as if her spirit could just float out of it. She’d gotten it back though, and together she and Link had defeated Malladus and Chancellor Cole.
She’d be seeing Link again soon though, his letter to her still lying on her desk. He’d been busy with his work as a train engineer, as she’d been with her work as a Princess, but they’d finally managed to find a time when their schedules lined up and they could meet. Not that she was going to tell anyone about it, she didn’t want to deal with the veritable army of guards that would likely be assigned to protect her outside the castle if she did.
She managed to get down to the station just in time, grabbing onto the side of the train as it slowed down, passing through the station without stopping. Ignoring the cries of the guards that had spotted her just a moment too late. Turning to Link, she brushed her somewhat-disheveled hair out of her face and smiled.
“So, where are we headed?”
-
Link had brought her to his hometown of Aboda Village. She’d visited it as a spirit before, when she was with Link, but never in her own body. It was nice to actually feel the sun on her skin and smell the sea as she stepped off the train. Link showed her around, introducing her properly to all the people he grew up with, and by the end of the day they were sitting together on a bench by the sea, eating ice cream. Everything was peaceful until she felt a set of hands clamp down over her shoulders and pull her away.
Glaring up at the man who had grabbed her, she only saw anger in his eyes. There were other men— all of them dressed like pirates— surrounding Link as he drew his sword. Their appearance seemed to shimmer and the illusions they’d been hiding under faded away, revealing a group of demons. Zelda struggled in the grip of the demon holding her, only for a blade to be held to her throat, as he called out to Link, threatening her life if he didn’t stand down. As he hesitantly dropped his sword, Zelda froze, that old fear she hadn’t felt since her adventure with Link coming back. For a moment she wished she was anywhere but there at that moment.
The hands gripping her disappeared suddenly, and she fell forward in shock. Turning around, she saw her own body, Link in the arms of the large demon that had grabbed her. She flew forward, attempting to return to her body, only to fly right through it— and into another body all together.
Opening her eyes in the body of the demon holding her body, she felt a moment of disorientation, his mind trying to throw her out before she pushed it down, taking complete control. Laying her body carefully on the ground, she drew the demon’s sword and pushed past the ones surrounding Link, his sword fallen to the ground.
“If you want him… you’ll have to go through me first!”

Last Sunday in New Hyrule...
Newly-minted Enginner Link has just made a deal to aid the disembodied spirit of the crown princess to stop an ancient evil. Instead of proceeding to the back exit with his shiny new sword, he decides to go collect rupees around the castle grounds to save up for a shield before they set out.
Oooh, there’s a bee’s nest! The bee larvae are good for...something... I guess... Time to roll into a tree...
.... A Minute Later....
Princess Zelda’s Ghost GLARES at the Ghost of Link, floating above his newly-deceased body on the ground. Shortest adventure ever.
“BEES? You are supposed to be the Hero for this era and you get taken out by BEES?!”

When a non-horror game has a horror section, I often find it a little more effective or memorable than a full-on horror title's horror, in a way. I think that's because, for characters in fiction, they usually don't know they're about to experience a horror story, so they aren't mentally prepared at all. As the audience, we know that when we boot up Silent Hill, we're gonna see some scary stuff and can mentally prepare accordingly. But when some innocuous children's platformer or RPG or whatever suddenly throws genuine horror elements at me, I'm taken out of my comfort zone much more roughly since I don't expect it at all.
I think that's neat :>
