Hello everyone!! welcome to our 3rd round of Giftober!! 👋🪄

It´s so good to be back!! Last year event was fabulous so I really wanted to meet you all again finally!

If it´s your first time in this blog, I officially started this 2 years ago, with the idea that these October 31 prompts can specially inspire, encourage and support gifmakers across all fandoms!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

Reblog this post. (Optional but encouraged.) Create a gifset inspired by the daily prompts. Tag your posts with #giftober2023. Caption your gifsets with: @giftober 2023 | Day #: "prompt description". (Recommended.)

IMPORTANT:

Make your own gifs. (I won´t reblog reposted gifs or gifs taken from the Tumblr search.) No explicit content. All fandoms are welcome! As long as you all respect each other! ☝

REMEMBER:

You don´t need to make all 31. You can make as much and as few as you want. And not exactly in order nor you have to post on time.

If you can´t exactly fit one of the prompt with your fandom, no worries! You can skip it or... modified it as your convinience, think of another prompt, do one from the 2021/2022 events instead! 😁

I know it might be a few others challenges in October, and make a daily set for a whole month sounds quite overwhelming, so please, don´t feel any pressure to complete this one! (in fact, you can combine prompts from other challenges!)

Since you don´t need to post in time, you can finish this after the month is over. Although I´ll check the tag less frequently then.

Before/After Gif Coloring Challenge.

Thank you for tagging me @safedistancefrombeingsmart and @a-victorian-girl (SB)! 🤗

I´m doing a post apart bc i was extending myself too much and kinda felt like i was hijacking the other thread 😳, so...

These are some colorings i did to the Doctor Strange movie for the ongoing Giftober event. ☺️

1. having fun with the colors, to highlight the greens.

2. turning the lights on in Wong's library 😬

3. taking out the criminal yellow filter 🤦‍♀️.

Now, since I think this is also a way to show appreciation to gifmakers and the work we do, I'll tag some creators who are currently participating in @giftober 2023. (no pressure to do it tho)

16. Do you have a favorite gifset you made this year? (link)

Yesss, this one. I truly enjoyed doing that post because it started as a joke, until I realized that Sherlock was pretending to work at the microscope (that left me 😳😳😳), and it ended up being a meta.

17. Do you have a favorite gifset made by someone else this year? (link)

Yes, this one (fom my friend Smartin, i loved it!), this one you did (still laughing because I really thought it was a deleted scene and I was like WHAT IS THIS?? lmao), and this one (I love it hard). That was a hard question! I have thousands of favourites!

20. What’s something you are expecting to gif in the upcoming year?

I really don't know... what I do know is that I wanna do more developed and beautiful gifsets, with more design and love, and to be able to participate in next year's Giftober completely :)

Tumblr and the No Good, Very Bad Idea

So. You might have heard the news that, as of July 12, Tumblr is testing out converting GIFs into looping MP4 videos to help pages load faster:

This is bad. Tumblr is the only mainstream site left where you can post GIFs and they’ll continue to be GIFs - well, sort of, as Tumblr previously tested and implemented turning GIF into GIFV with the same purpose, and it decreases the quality of the original GIF file. Turning them into MP4 videos is even worse.

GIFs are GIFs. They’re not videos. Creators spend hours making a GIF that will look good as a GIF, not as a video.

I hope I don’t need to explain to anyone why continuing to screw over creators is bad for a site like Tumblr, whose continued existence depends on creators not giving up on it, and why gif-making is important to fandom existence.

I for one will not continue to make any more gifsets if I know they’ll just be turned into MP4 files. It’s disappointing to spend my time making something and watch it become ugly once it’s uploaded - and that’s what is already happening without the MP4 conversion.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

Don’t bother sending a support ticket! They will tell you to do what I’m about to tell you:

Send an ask or submission to @wip - the official “work in progress” blog of Tumblr where people can send in suggestions.

Their ask box is open every Monday from 6AM to 6PM EST.

The conversation isn’t over, guys, but it’s important to be a part of it. If you’re a creator or support creators (and you should), then set an alarm on Monday and go send them a message.
