Godzilla: Domination!
GIGAN
Artist's Commentary: l wasn't going to bother handling the whole cyborg bs. So here you go, a fully mecha gigan.
Tumblr media
His mouth is kinda weird so have a quick mockup of him with closed jaws as a visual aid.

"Hero-verse" Gigan - He's not as clearly defined in parts as Godzilla was, but he's mostly derived from his Showa design, though a couple elements from Trendmasters and a fan redesign that turned him into a sort of diamond-shaped fish looking levitating creature made there way in there a bit. He's a little heavy set looking which might cause some to underestimate him but his elbow and knee spikes help re-enforce his dirty fighter appearance. I saw some other artist claim Gigan was initially supposed to be feathered and I'm not sure if it's true but I thought it might add to his goofier appearance. Gigan was never really given his own episode in the hypothetical cartoon, he just sort of showed up as an extra monster to fight when the writers realized they'd put in too many Godzilla allies for the monster to seem like a challenge and that set the mood for most of his future appearances. There were plans to have him potentially ally with the heroic monsters against grander truly evil threats in season 2 but cancellation struck. His most referenced appearance online was the episode where he tried to quit monster villainy and just hang out with Megalon but by happenstance found his way into the episode's A plot and was thoroughly clobbered on general principle before fully realizing what had happened. "Horror-verse" Gigan - Design is pulling mostly from his Final Wars incarnation but makes some modifications to tone down his additional weaponry and work it all in. He still has a grappling hook move, attached to a reel on his right arm. There is a chainsaw but modest in size and singular, held back as a sort of switching out weapon on his left arm. Otherwise the main adjustment is to make a clearer distinction between his mechanical parts from the rest of him and turn his sails into a sort of anti-gravity technology. The edgy change here is simply that Gigan is more of an obvious hack job. The aliens that found a dying kaiju and turned into their cybernetic war machine had no regard for the creature's quality of life. As a result of the somewhat inept job Gigan's cybernetic attachment points are prone to bleeding where flesh meets metal and getting infected. Kaiju regeneration keeps the persistent infections from killing him but he's always pained from them. The ill-fitting mechanical parts combine with phantom limb pain to make Gigan entirely miserable which causes him to lash out and try to spread his pain. This suits the aliens that created him fine most of the time, but does mean sedation and overt brain control is sometimes necessary to keep him from turning on his "creators".

A Different Beast
Tumblr media
Beast Wrestler (ビースト・ウォリアーズ "Beast Warriors") was one of the first monster fighting games. Released in 1991 for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, it is notable for its unique style and concept.
Tumblr media
Yasushi Nirasawa was the man responsible designing the game's monsters, dubbed Dragon Warriors. Nirawasa's designs have appeared in various Tokusatsu productions such as Kamen Rider, but perhaps his most famous would be the 2004 redesign of Gigan for Godzilla Final Wars (He was also responsible for the Xilien designs in the film as well).
Tumblr media
Back in 1991, Nirasawa was primarily known for his sculptures and models featured in, and on the covers of Hobby Japan. The box art for Beast Wrestler showcases his work. The image was prominently used in the print advertising.
Tumblr media
The Dragon Warriors all quite varied, ranging from humanoid animals to an ooze. Some with various levels of cybernetics and some had truly chimeric designs.
Tumblr media
Instead of randomized fights each match of the Tournament is fixed. The player is the "ruler" of a ENTSLL 2019 Dragon Warrior and starts at the bottom of the Domestic Rank to work up to the top of the World Rank.
Tumblr media
Yasushi Nirasawa did a six-page comic that was in the instruction manual for the Japanese version of the game. It gives a look at the world where genetically engineered 10 meter tall monsters battle in the arena.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aside from the designs and the setting, the other defining feature of the game is the concept of combining your Dragon Warrior with a vanquished opponent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time, the player gets two options for combining. This sets up two different paths for completing the World Rank. Based on this decision, a different Dragon Warrior is used in each path to combine for a second form.
Tumblr media
While there is much to appreciate about the concept and designs, the gameplay is a shortcoming. The hit boxes don't correspond well and fights are slow. There are some loops and exploits that help with the difficulty, but that doesn't lead to a satisfying victory.
The game also has a Match mode for a fight against the computer or another player, using some of the Domestic and World Rank fighters. Unfortunately, this mode is also is subject to the same issues and the Dragon Warriors are very unbalanced.
Tumblr media
It would be fun to see this game made today with modern game technology and design. Yasushi Nirasawa's detailed creations could really come to life. Also, it would be great to see more and varied combinations of beasts.
With a little more time and polish, Beast Wrestler could have been a cult game. Instead, it's an interesting obscurity.

Trailer 2 for GxK has got me genuinely excited for it. Godzilla doesn't look as top heavy as the toys, so I can really lean into the redesign. I think I still prefer the kotm take, but the green/pink looks nice.
The dysfunctional buddy cop dynamic for Godzilla and Kong seems neat. Kong realizes he's overwhelmed and that he needs the help of the baddest motherfucker he knows, but the son of a bitch hates him too, so going to ask could be a death sentence of its own. How fun! Frankly, more exciting than a vs film!
Skar King and the 'mystery' titan look like a great pair of villains. Really excited for a classic 2v2 a-la Godzilla vs Gigan and Vs Megalon.
Ape and Dinosaur... strong together!

Redesign of Electricsaurus from Mirrorman episode 50 "Earth's Last Day".
No specific references outside of the original suit.
I eventually tried to make the design like an a bootleg Gigan.

Cerebella redesign! Made her part Gigan and part Manta ray dagonian!

Cerebella is depicted as a young girl with Gigan/Dagonian features she has dark skin, dark blue eyes, teal hair that fades from light teal to dark in an undercut, gills, blue and teal freckles, pointed cyan horns, orange orc-like tusks, rounded greyish-blue ears, large greyish-blue paws, Manta ray fins, and a Manta ray-like tail. The first drawing to the far left is of Cerebella sticking out her tongue, while wearing a light orange hoodie. The second drawing to the right is of Cerebella standing with a neutral expression, she is wearing her beanie, an orange shirt with light tan sleeves, an orange belt, pants with light orange diamond patterns, and red shoes. Next to that is a final third drawing of Vice-Versa who is depicted as an orange beanie with a tan Manta ray face, tail, and paws. The background is bright teal. /End ID]

1. Godzilla vs. Megalon (pieces). Godzilla 1985 (complete) 2. Godzilla's "good guy" roar 3. Godzilla Raids Again. I would say Shin Godzilla, but we do not recognize it as a legitimate Godzilla movie in this house. 4. Gamera, Super Monster 5. Dragonzord, bitches! 6. I don't know what this is. 7. I don't care for any of the redesigns other than King Kong, but he's not Toho. 8. Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra vs. Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster 9. Noriyoshi Ohrai 10. Ultraman (1966) 11. New World Video's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla VHS cover 12. 48 Hrs. but with Godzilla and Gamera. Gojira: “You’ve been dickin’ me around ever since we started this turd hunt!” 13. The 1967 suit built for Gamera vs. Gaos and reused in Gamera vs. Viras. 14. I really don't care much about those things at all. 15. Super Godzilla 16. Mechagodzilla '74 17. Jiger 18. Minya's smoke rings 19. Gandar 20. A 1980s Imperial Godzilla bootleg with incorrect plates that my dad randomly bought me one day (along with bootleg/non-cyborg Gigan). 21. Gamera vs. Gaos (1967; last battle) 22. Godzilla against a blazing sundown in Godzilla vs. Hedorah. 23. Does A*P*E count? Cause if so, that 24. Ishiro Honda 25. "Baby" Gamera in Dragonball. 26. King Kong 27. Ultraman Ace 28. That '67 Gamera Revoltech (I think is the name of the company) 29. It's Toho's 1998 Godzilla. They just created a new monster and slapped Godzilla's name onto it. Who knew that what everybody wanted all these years was for Godzilla to stop being Godzilla? 30. 1964 31. Better than Shin Godzilla or that damn Plantzilla or Transforming Notzilla in the two animes.

Look, it’s cyborg duck man. Here’s my AU’s Gigan, the design is part of a series of Monsterverse-ization of classic Toho kaiju. Size Stats: 119.9 meter height 275 meter length 300 meter wingspan (When stretched for flight, only 50 meters when locked) Brief Origins: Gigan is a cybernetic beast of unknown origin from beyond the Cosmos. He is extraterrestrial much like Ghidorah, and Gigan and Ghidorah were partners in crime. In the ancient times of the Titans; Ghidorah and Gigan, along with Megalon rose and invasion on Earth to overthrow the alpha and terraform the Earth to their personal whims. Fortunately, the trio was stopped by Godzilla. Which left Ghidorah buried within Antartica, Megalon banished to below the core of the Earth and Gigan brutally destroyed beyond repair. Gigan, however; was presumably picked up by a hyper-intelligent race of aliens that declare themselves the “Xiliens”, and given several technological advancements (The Gigan in the image is him Pre-Rebuilding, may or may not draw Post-rebuilding Gigan at some point.), and he was given one mission. Return to Earth, release Megalon and defeat Godzilla, slaughter all of his allies and rise the Xiliens to victory against the humans.

I got a question, Is there evil Kaiju's that Ghidorah at least gives a nod of respect to? Like, for example; Destoroyah, Spacegodzilla(etc.)? Thanks for answering(If you ever do!)
Tumblr media
As long as King Ghidorah gets to keep the Crown as king of the baddies, and sits in the Big Chair, he welcomes only the evilest, evil kaiju to his villain’s club! Specifically these three.
Rodan is only allowed in the club to serve them drinks.

I am against redesigns that make Gigan a MUTO
Its not fabulous enough. The Mutos are boring in color
According to Nakano, "the idea for Gigan was to create a monster with quite a different shape,"[18] wanting for the monster to be akin to a "richly colored dinosaur"[15] and also being inspired by the designs of the multilayered jūnihitoe kimonos worn by Japanese court ladies
Tumblr media
example
Final Wars Gigan was interesting, but only is tolerable with the extremely 90/00s over the top vibe, and being a hilarious power ranger villain at heart who loves doing cool poses.
