I was tagged by the amazing @sadmorgen to list 5 songs I’ve listened to recently. This was difficult for me since I listen to music non-stop. Here are 5, each with a mini blurb. I highly suggest you take a listen!
Stranger - Dimash Qudaibergen
Watch/Listen here
Qudaibergen is a Kazakh singer and musician. He might objectively be the most skilled vocalist in the world at the moment. Stranger showcases his technique, range, and musicality.
Now We Are Free - Ellen Williams
Watch/Listen here
Williams is a Welsh soprano singer. This is one of the best renditions of this song, in my opinion. Her classically-trained voice shimmers and soars.
Le pire - GIMS
Watch/Listen here, Lyrics (FR & EN)
GIMS is a Congolese and French singer and songwriter. Le pire’s insightful message demonstrates his exquisite songwriting abilities.
Autumn Finds Winter - Yiruma
Listen here
Yiruma is a South Korean pianist and composer. This is a lesser-known piece of his but it’s one of my favorites. The blend of the piano and strings takes your breath away.
Les blues du businessman - Céline Dion version
Listen here, Lyrics (FR & EN)
Dion is a French Canadian singer. This song’s lyrics are relatable as an aspiring writer/artist. Beyond her powerful belting and intricate melismas, she conveys the message with the right emotions.
I’ll tag @illbeyouranchor @mysticlostdog @blackinkmess @aslice-ofpoetry @smp-writes @wysewordsblog @poppiesandpromises @followcb @instruth @mirrorworld12 and anyone else who wants to share! (note: you just have to list the songs, not write all the extra stuff I did)
Ok so when I'm sad I don't necessarily want songs to cheer me up. I want something that will gut me, drive itself into my stomach like a rusty fish hook and drag out the squirming infection. I want catharsis.
This song is heavy as hell. If you're really in the trenches it will drag you though the blood-soft mud and it will hurt like putting weight on a broken bone. Somerimes that's what you need to get to safety.
Tw for CSA/rape mention, but in the end it's not a downer. Fun fact did you know Amanda Palmer is married to Neil Gaiman?

If that's not for you, try this one. It's soft and it's all positive and affirming but it just Knows something. It doesn't try to tell you that you're amazing and everything everyone needs. When you're struggling that's not what you wonder. That's not what you're too afraid to ask because to you the answer has always been no.

Dance music? Sure let's tone whiplash to groovy tunes :)

Little Talks - Of Monsters and Men (Ladynoir)
Je Te Pardonne - Maître Gims ft. Sia (Ladynoir)

🐈🐞
WOW it's a good day for the odnlb playlist!!
Adieu Mon Homme - Pomme (it's just perfect for Mari)
very sad, i loved it. 10/10, absolute marinette devastation and grief. so good.
Sans Toi - Pomme (same)
more sad marinette time. top tier sadness and desolation. very good for us not so much for her.
Mr/Mme - Loïc Nottet (for Adrien)
VERY sadrien and VERY emodrien. he's dealing with so much & this melody song feels exactly what he'd play on the piano when he's especially Upset.
I'll Be Good - Jaymes Young (Félix)
you know i've heard this song before and liked it but i've never applied it to felix before! i love this perspective on him reflecting on how badly he's messed up lol. he's trying to atone for it by actually making a conscious decision to "be good" to adrien bc he's so aware of how much of this is his own fault.
Little Talks - Of Monsters and Men (Ladynoir)
i'm so silly for not putting this song on the playlist sooner. the duet, the hurt/comfort, the mental illness and pining. it really just sings odnlb ladynoir, doesn't it? the screams all sound the same and so does mine as i apply this song to ladybug and chat noir.
Je Te Pardonne - Maître Gims ft. Sia (Ladynoir)
ooh it's so dramatic and romantic with the drums and the tolling bells?? i really don't think there's anything more demonstrative of true love than forgiveness, and ladynoir are so ready to give that to each other just to be together.
The End Of The World - Rob Dickinson (Ladynoir again)
this song feels so apocryphal but omggg it's bleeding ladynoir. there's so much they didn't get to do before they parted, and didn't even get to say goodbye. their separation was a "primal burial" and that hits so deep. but now they're together again in the last stretch of the fight, and FINALLY have a shot at happiness. also i love the theme of breathing ;)))
