ok gintama fans hear me out,
I know gintama is over but I'm gonna need sorachi sensei to give us more. because there are some points that need to be deepened :
• gintoki's childhood before meeting shoyou : who are his parents? why did he end up having to kill people to survive? apparently his name was given to him by someone he met so we need to know how they met/who is he and what did he do like was he a samurai or not
• how and when did shinsuke built the kiheitai?
• after shoyou got arrested, what happened? (besides them going their separate ways) how did gintoki motivate his comrades/ how many years did they train before joining the war
• tatsuma's past. we know so little about him that's sad... why did he decided to join the war? how and why did he become a samurai
• the members of the kiheitai (matako, bansai and takechi) : we know how they met shinsuke but we don't know much about them/their backstory
• also, there's absolutely no way joui3 went their separate way right after shoyou died... so I need to know how many days/weeks did it take them to separate. bc shinsuke had to take care of his eye (who helped him btw???) and they had to bury their dead comrades... and I'm really curious if they talked or argued
• abuto!! why did he join the harusame? how long has he been a pirate??
• the oniwabanshu, I just need more ninja content bc again, we know very little about them
that was the main things that came to my mind so tell me what you guys think or what would you add!

NOTES YOU SHOULD CONSIDER WHILE WATCHING GINTAMA: (Part I) Timeline
Gintama is an anime that is so unique that the characters have own opinions about almost everything in the anime. One running gag about it is that they keep saying it is final in the last episode of a season and yet apologizing first thing before the start of a new season.
When I first watched Gintama, I was wondering 「What the heck are they talking about? I can't relate at all.」 Hahaha. It's the first anime I watched that in all forms breaking the 4th wall like its nothing.
So if you want to watch them saying goodbye and yet apologizing for coming back, you have to be familiarized with the timeline of the anime Gintama.
S1: 04.04.2006 – 03.29.2007 [ 1 - 49 ]
S2: 04.05.2007 – 03.27.2008 [ 50 - 99 ]
S3: 04.04.2008 – 03.26.2009 [ 100 - 150 ]
S4: 04.02.2009 – 03.25.2010 [ 151 - 201 ]
( 1-year HIATUS )
S5: 04.04.2011 – 03.26.2012 [ 202 - 252 ]
( 6-month HIATUS )
S6: 10.04.2012 – 03.28.2013 [ 253 - 265 ]
( 2-year HIATUS )
S7: 04.08.2015 – 03.30.2016 [ 266 - 316 ]
( 9-month HIATUS )
S8: 01.08.2017 – 03.26.2017 [ 317 - 328 ]
( 6-month HIATUS )
S9: 10.01.2017 – 12.24.2017 [ 329 - 341 ]
S10: 01.07.2018 – 10.07.2018 [ 342 - 367 ]
I have yet to rewatch the season endings but I remember watching an episode saying that it's the last and yet coming back like it's normal in the next episode. Hahaha.
I also remember them even mentioning that their staffs are having a hard time looking for timeslot for a new season. And also they are also unsure that the anime would continue (despite of on-going manga) because of budget restraints. It's really funny because they're literally voicing out their concerns in the beginning of the episodes.
That's it for today, I hope (even just a little) I made one aspect of Gintama more sensible and more fun to watch. Thanks for reading!!

Binge-Watching: Gintama, Episodes 329-333
It’s time for the Slip Arc! In which a forward-looking show finally looks backward, Kagura’s two dads are everything, and we revisit a welcome old flame.
A Slip Through Time and Space
The concept of time in the universe of Gintama has been one of the most fascinating meta subjects that I’ve explored while talking about it. For as much as the show likes to mock itself for its seemingly unchanging sitcom status quo, the fact is that Edo has never been frozen in time. The world has evolved with the show, with new characters, new relationships, old relationships developing and deepening, new playing fields of possibility being opened, and an increasingly changing understanding of the foundation fabric of the story itself., whether in massive game-changing arcs or the nuances of the ever-evolving sitcom antics themselves. Like its central character, Gintama is a show that is constantly looking forward, constantly running towards the future that waits just beyond its grasp. It’s what’s made it such an exhilarating watch for me, the excitement of wanting to find out just how far this world and my relationship with it would grow and evolve over time. It’s an incredible strength in a show full of incredible strengths.
I bring this up because we’ve just reached the first ever time in Gintama’s history where it has, quite literally, decided to stop looking forward and turn back the clock. The Slip Arc, the next thirteen episodes or so, is composed of lighter segments and arcs from the manga that were never adapted before, the one-off stories the anime skipped over on its journey to its explosive climax. Which means that not only are we taking a breather before rushing into what still appears to be the true goddamn finale, we’re taking a breather in the past, in that stretch of easy-going time before the Shogun Assassination arc firmly closed the book on Gintama ever going back to the show it was before. Characters who had died are still around, characters who went through development haven’t had that development yet, and the stakes-raising intensity of the third season following the Pinky Promise arc is completely absent. This is nostalgic Gintama, complete with the closest thing to a “standard format” OP we’ve gotten since Day by Day, It’s a trip down memory lane, remembering the fun times we used to share before finally taking on the final boss in the next chamber.
And you know what? I’m completely okay with that.
Yes, it is, for lack of a more descriptive term, weird to see Umibozu running around still being an over-protective, smothering father after turning over a new leaf following the Battle at Rakuyo. It’s weird to see the Shinsengumi still hanging around, and Sasaki still alive. It’s weird to suddenly be returning focus to the street level we abandoned so long ago, to hang out with characters like Ikamatsu the ramen lady and Hasegawa, the former of whom we haven’t even seen since Katsura first busted up her shop almost 300 episodes ago. But you know what? I liked Hasegawa. I liked Ikamatsu. I liked when I could just stretch my arms and relax with this show, when not every post needed to be a glorious summation of theme and character to make my wrists ache from the mere thought. We have had 29 straight episodes of the most awe-inspiring action of the show’s history, the biggest upheavals and reversals and explosions ever. It’s been a lot. It’s been a lot of good, but it’s been a lot. So if the impetus here is to relax and take a load off, to remember why we fell in love with this show in the first place before bidding it farewell, then consider me on board.
And I say this as someone who has absolutely fucking loved this new era of GIntama; seeing the story enter its third arc has been so rewarding on so many levels, a masterpiece of payoff that has left me reeling from the impact over and over again. But while Gintama may shine in these big moments, its heart still lies in the small. Yoshiwara in Flames, Battle at Rakuyo, Farewell Shinsengumi, none of these arcs would be as meaningful without the weight of the countess hours we’ve spent just living with these idiots, experiencing life with them in all its stupidity and brilliance. The slowly expansive sitcom formula that defined this show for so long is the soul of Gintama, and it only makes sense to return to it one last time before the grand finale. Whether or not this was planned is an entirely different question all together, but if there’s one thing talking about anime for so long has taught me, it’s that something doesn’t need to be planned to matter.
So give me the good stuff, Slip Arc. Give me fun memories and stupid larks and more poop jokes than I know what to do with. This is why I fell in love with you in the first place, this wind, uninhibited stream of consciousness, full of humor and heart in equal measure. This is Gintama, back in its original form for one last hurrah. And I see no reason to complain about that.
My Two Dads
That said, it certainly helps that while we have backtracked a bit in terms of how much emotional context we’re supposed to put into this show, the storytelling remains as delightfully sharp and smart as ever. Let’s be real, in any other show, the concept of the main girl bringing home a girlfriend and her dad(s) freaking out about it would end up as the cringiest thing in existence, full of unfunny, dated humor about jealous fathers and rebellious teenagers. But this is Gintama, where there’s no tired trope or storyline that can’t serve as the basis for watching these delightful characters tear it to shreds and eat its children for breakfast. Kagura’s two dads do want what’s best for her, and while they butt heads constantly over when that is because they’re scared as hell for not knowing the best way to care for her, they’re committed to doing right by her, even if it means growing up a little too literally. And listen, you all know how much I live for Dadtoki at this point (”Why would she neglect how I raised her?!”), but it bears repeating: Gintoki cares so goddamn much for Kagura and it chokes me up every time he show it. In a world where everyone’s family is a little atypical, you can still find love and connection with the people you care about. You can still find your own definition of family, whatever that entails.
And in truth, neither he nor Umibozu needed to worry too much about the prospect of their daughter getting sold off to a bizarre Attack on Titan parody. Because she’s Kagura, dude. She’s got this. She’s so nonchalant about the whole boyfriend situation that their overreactions can’t even touch her, embracing it with the same adorable, upfront honesty that’s helped her tunnel into my heart so fucking deeply. And when it becomes clear her giant boyfriend is trying to monopolize her just as immensely as her dads, she doesn’t hesitate for a second before cutting him off. Because she has the right to decide her own family, to figure out who she’s willing to share herself with. And while boyfriends are a dime a dozen, the scatterbrains who gave her a home can only be found here on Earth, in the bosom of families old and new that she will never stop reaching out too. What a beautiful sentiment, made even more beautiful by the knowledge of how completely she’s embraced this hope by the end of the Battle at Rakuyo. And that’s why I continue to call her the best.
A Bowl of Ramen
The story of Ikamatsu the ramen shop owner was one of the best episodes of Gintama’s formative years, showcasing the show’s immense empathy and thematic understanding by having a still-violently extremist Katsura confront, in no uncertain terms, the human cost of his rebellion. And I was always so bummed that we never checked in on her again, because her banter with the soulful dork of a samurai was really goddamn endearing. Well, better later than never, it seems, because she’s finally stepped back into the spotlight once more, giving Katsura another chance to remind us what a wonderfully earnest person he truly is underneath his haughty exterior. He sees the good in the world more readily than he lets on, and he’s willing to forego his own desires if it means helping spread that good. Whether or not he truly wishes to suck more than ramen from Ikamatsu (also, fuck you for putting that image in my head, Gin-san) is immaterial, because he knows firsthand how much love she still shares with the broken family swirling around her, and if helping to repair that family, however slightly, might bring her happiness, than he’ll track down her missing father however long it takes.
And man, what a heartbreaking little tale this turned out to be. Even as easy at it was to guess that the old fart with the swirly glasses who’s been bumming around Gintama’s back alleys since the early days was her father (seriously, this show’s obsession with turning bit parts into genuine legacy players never ceases to amaze me), it’s still painful to realize how much time we’ve spent with him not knowing what he ended up leaving behind. His family wrote him off as a lost cause, but all this time, he was only wandering the world without his memories, drawn back to her daughter’s ramen shop every New Years only by the husband whose life he saved in sacrifice of those memories. As this show is so fond of recognizing, family always finds a way back to each other, no matter how long or broken the path may be. And the moment at the end where he finally makes it back to the shop, dividing his ramen now into six bowls in honor of the people who finally reunited them, I was pretty damn close to tears. Edo really is one big family in this show, full of countless people from countless walks of life who will fight by each other’s side any day of the week. We may be looking backward for the moment, but some things never change.
Odds and Ends
-”Shinpachu!” Wow, Detective Pikachu’s looking good!
-”Hell, you were basically the star of that arc. Are you sure you want to sum it up that way?” pfft
-”How long are you gonna keep hyping up the live action movie?!” Interesting question, is the GIntama live action movie any good?
-”Only Daddy’s head needs to be toasty!” istfg Umibozu
-Shinpachi is out here just being the BEST big brother ever. Go him.
-Whoever thought up this new ED, I just want you to know I appreciate you.
-”Riding that would be harder than riding a Gundam!” Oh, you know someone out there has already rule 34-d this and OH GOD NO I DID NOT NEED THAT MENTAL IMAGE SOMEBODY COME SANDBLAST MY BRAIN PLEASE
-”What is a grown-up? I don’t know anymore!” Big mood, Gintoki.
-WE DO NOT THREATEN PRINCESS SOYO YOU MANIACS
-”Fathers really are amazing, huh?” asjkdahsdkjhskd
-Okay, everyone’s hungry faces at watching the ramen be made slew me.
-”In the end, you’ve hit rock bottom in this world too!” Hasegawa. Honey.
-”Don’t interpret for the people at home!” Hey, even I forgot about her asshole brother. The recap was much appreciated.
-”Before that, do something about this knock-off Commander Ikari!” Well, at least he admits it.
-”I’ll take the plunge instead!” Aaaand now that I know the context this line is absolutely heartbreaking. Evil, show. Evil.
-”To a samurai, everything in reach is a weapon!” SURE.
-”Life is precious. Don’t waste it.” rofl
-”I at least want my glasses to survive me!” As well they should.
-”Asking a half-dead guy to kill someone?!” You ever just wonder how we got here?
-”You were never fit and firing there anyway!” I swear to god
-”I’m not napping. I’m snacking.” Listen, Nobume has been around for far less time than pretty much everybody else in the central cast, but I would already die for her just as intensely.
-”Their reasoning is getting stupider by the minute!” Adventure game logic in a nutshell.
Aah, that’s the stuff. I really have missed this more laid-back Gintama. Oh well, guess I’ll enjoy it as long as I can. See you next time!

[Gintama ep 329] For GinKagu shippers
In case you didn’t know about it. Gintoki as Goku, Kagura as Chichi.
And it’s not the first time Gintoki and Kagura - the main male/female character plays as Husband&Wife.
Dont wanna hashtag gintama or gintoki, cause there are many haters on Tumblr.
