The Lioness and The Bear’s Cubs: The children of Elizabeth Tudor & Robert Dudley in my Tudors OT3 Universe.*

*(An alternate history in which Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII and Thomas (Frain) Cromwell are in a secret triad marriage from 1536, have eight children, Anne is always a beloved Queen and their oldest son marries Mihrimah Sultan and they bring in a truly progressive by modern standards golden world, minus colonialism and empire because it’s my wish fulfilment au)

Anne (b. 1552): As Elizabeth inherited her mothers title before her marriage of Duchess of Pembroke, so Anne, as the oldest daughter, inherited it in turn (to this day, the Duchy is passed to the oldest daughter). She married Matthew Cecil, son of William Cecil (I think this is hilarious due to the fact that okay, Robert and William Cecil aren’t as ‘…FUCK IT’S HIM’ at each other in this AU but they still kind of are, so the fact that their children marry each other is like, Cecil is delighted but also he really has to deal with ROBERT DUDLEY and vice versa). They have eight children - William, Robert, Elizabeth, George, Anne, Turhan, Henry and Mihrimah. 

Anne is her fathers favourite child, without a doubt. She is also extremely like to her maternal grandmother Queen Anne in looks. Incredibly intelligent she becomes a renowned poet in her adulthood - corresponding with other learned women from across the European and Islamic worlds, she loved to experiment with form and style - particularly admired for her series of sonnets. Known to love wearing green, can ride better than both her parents, charms everyone. 

Also she’s her cousin the King’s secret spymaster but that’s an entire other story I might even write one day. 

Henry (b. 1557): Duke of Leicester after his father. Married to Cecily, daughter of John de Vere, Earl of Oxford. He is the father of three children  - Robert, Mihrimah & Thomas. Harry is tbh, a giant womaniser - he and his wife are friends but they married for reasons of companionship and children, not love, though they are fond of each other. He is the courtier, the one who absolutely inherited all his fathers Dramatic - often joked that he should have been an actor upon the stage. Not so much a scholar, though he’s definitely smart, he is a brilliant musician and dancer though. Also known for his fashion sense - he wore ‘brilliant robes of deep black with golden trim’ and an expert jouster which gives his parents approximately fifteen heart attacks. 

Thomas (b. 1557): Henry’s twin. He married Halime, Lady Stanley and they are the parents of four daughters - Elizabeth, Maryam, Soraya & Philippa. Thom is the one who manages the Leicester Estates and he’s happy doing that - his hobby is gardening/garden design and the gardens of the family seat are still famous to this day - he wrote a whole number of works on gardening and gardens and corresponded with gardeners from all across the world. Almost certainly has a plant named after him. Ambitious but his ambitions go into gardening. 

Robert (b. 1559): Sailor, traveller and early travel writer (in that he wrote a chronicle of his travels). Lord High Admiral for his cousin King Thomas II, he travelled as far as Indonesia and lived for a long time in his cousin Maryam’s court in Persia, where he fathered a daughter Parisa with a woman named Tahmina. So so much wandering feet - language nerd in the extreme, Robbie definitely wanted to learn all he could about the world and was a superb commander and leader. Credited with building the modern navy. 

Marian (b. 1580). Marian died in 1680 and was her parents Extremely Surprise Late In Life Child. She was christened Mary but everyone called her Marian. She first married Alfonso, Duke of Ferrera (who I think might be a descendent of Lucrezia Borgia) with whom she had four children - Francesco, Giovanni, Contessina and Lorenzo and secondly Turhan, Earl of Surrey with whom she had twins Turhan & Mihrimah. Marian is amazing - she lived through the English Civil War and the Restoration Period and then the return of the monarchy under her relative Queen Charlotte Askala - during the period of the Restoration King she helped to smuggle out refugees from the Restoration Regime - particularly Jewish, Muslim and other non white families using her contacts in Italy as well as her noble blood to get away with it well into her old age. 

She’s the painter of the family - particularly learning from female artists in Italy - her surviving landscape works hang in the Albion National Gallery today and her informal sketches during the Restoration Regime remain a valuable insight into this period of history.

Reading update

The Winter Spirits: Ghostly Tales for Festive Nights - 5/5 stars

I bought this solely for the Natasha Pulley story, "The Salt Miracles," (I WOULD READ A WHOLE BOOK ABOUT FLINT AND THE SAINT, MX PULLEY), but every story was really good. My kind of spooky.

Seriously though, I wanted so much more of "The Salt Miracles." How was it a queer love story despite not being a love story or queer? God I love Natasha Pulley.

Henry Hamlet's Heart by Rhiannon Wilde - 5/5 stars

Really lovely YA romance set in Australia. The yearning is impeccable. Also, I hate myself for saying this, but it's historical fiction—it's set in 2008.

Handmade Holidays by 'Nathan Burgoine - 3.5/5 stars

Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin - 4/5 stars

Not an easy read. The main character, David, is despicable, but in large part because he lives in a society that expects rigid adherence to gender roles. One thing I found really interesting was repeated emphasis on the fact that David won't act, he waits for someone else to do it for him—he acknowledges that if Joey had asked him to stay, he would have, that if Giovanni had asked him to stay, he would have. And then Hella tells him that as a woman, she has to wait for men to tell her things, but David doesn't tell her he's gay, he waits for her to figure it out herself. Hella makes this into an explicitly gendered dichotomy, which is interesting with David constantly fretting about not being a man because of his queerness.

Queer classic, people should read.

Near-future sci-fi where everyone gets one 44 second look into their future. Fairly dark for YA. Also thematically relevant to my MCU fic.

Mistletoe & Mishigas by MA Wardell - 4.25/5 stars

This book was lovely. I loved Theo so much. Sheldon is very annoying but also very lovable. And it's nice to read a Hanukkah romance!

Editors? Hello?? Seriously, I feel like people are writing manuscripts on their phones and uploading them directly to Amazon from there.

The Power of the Dog by Thomas Savage - 4.5/5 stars

Oddly I found this to be not as difficult of a read as Giovanni's Room, in my private game of Ranking Queer Classics Against Each Other. Obviously Phil is an awful man, but in the end I felt bad for him, tbh. Phil is like, a really catty twink wrapped in layers of toxic masculinity and repressed homosexuality. And then Peter is a sociopath. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to sympathize with Peter? I didn't think I was, but then I scanned Annie Proulx's afterword and it seemed like she thought we were supposed to? Obviously you feel worst for all the people Phil just heedlessly tears to ribbons because he's a maladjusted asshole. I think the thing is, there were just enough glimmers where Phil acts like a human being that I was like, maybe you can be saved! Ah, tragedy.

Anyway, good book, 10/10 would recommend. (and no, I haven't seen the movie)

top 5 books you’ve read recently?

did top five recent here so i'll just do top five overall ! in no particular order:

1. invisible monsters by chuck palahnuik

i read this in a feverish haze overnight exactly one year ago and immediately fell in love with it. one of those books that continually keeps you on your toes and makes you want to reread upon finishing. first on the list of works id like to inject into my veins tbh

2. giovanni's room by james baldwin

book of all time. what more can i say. james baldwin voice its about what happens when youre afraid to truly love someone. britney spears gif yeah.........

3. the song of achilles by madeline miller

i do see and understand the issues ppl may have with this book but at this point its a part of me like. i never buy books but this one is getting a place of honor on my little shelf im emotionally attached to it like every other person on t*kt*k and i cant bring myself to be sorry for it

4. emma by jane austen

the first book i was REALLY obsessed with like. for Real. instead of confusing lukewarm connection to a books themes for appreciation for its storytelling and characters this was the first book i literally physically cracked open eighth grade i was reading this EVERYWHERE with absolutely no consideration for its physical state rn its torn bare down the middle with pages coming loose and im not even sorry for it. i know i said i was putting these in no particular order but gun to my head i would say this is my favorite tbh. emma and harriet og codependent girlies with one of them being the controlling popular friend determined to have the other to herself (the way she says this line out loud. whatever its fine im normal about it) and is unconciously willing to pull her down for the sake of preserving what they have from the spectre of heterosexuality. all that being said knightley/emma is so so important 2 me i <3 characters who GET each other in a way no one else can i <3 when what a character is looking for has been right in front of them within reach (!!!) the whole time

5. on earth we're briefly gorgeous by ocean vuong

did reread this immediately upon completion so. engraved in my brain heart internal organs etc. obsessed with the prose ofc but the fundamental premise of guy grappling with his identity wrt to his relationship with his mother--and outside it--and his sexuality through a letter to his mother that she will never read bc its in a language she never took for her own further highlighting places they can never meet. hits like a fucking truck

My Full Commentary on Broadway’s Dance of the Vampires

Turns out there’s so much that this is going to have to be split into two posts! These are my full, unedited, out-of-context ramblings as I watched the production, so prepare for it to be all over the place and chaotic! I also did a slightly shorter review of sorts here!

But here we go... Act 1!

• Huh. This is not Alfred in the snow

• Why are there three children in the forest

• This song is boring. To be fair their voices are nice but I’m still bored. This feels like Disney ugh

• God these jokes are awful and I can’t tell if they’re funny or not

• Whyyyyy is there a jokes every 5 seconds and WHAT ARE THEY DOING IN THE FOREST

• Oh my god why are they getting high on mushrooms

• wAIT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE SARAH HOLY SHIT

• WHY IS SHE WITH PEOPLE ARE THEY HER SIBLINGS

• WHY IS SHE OUTSIDE

• I feel like they’re foreshadowing Krolock’s arrival

• I want to get this over with already and see Krolock but I don’t want to see Crawford butcher his poor character

• The lights are nice but that’s about as far as I can compliment this

• The dancers (I’m guessing vampires even though I swear I heard a wolf howl) look like they just got off of Cats and either think they’re still in Cats but just wandered onto the wrong stage or just never recovered from being cats for so long and can tragically no longer move like normal humans (or vampires, whatever)

• The rock music is pretty cool I’ll give them that

• But I still don’t see where they’re going with this

• I’m mad that his voice is good because he could have performed in a faithful adaption and been a great Krolock but no he had to ruin everything and now we won’t get a good english version thanks michael

• We’re barely 11 minutes in and they’ve already used up two of the best songs in the musical?

• Also if Sarah and Krolock meet so early on, what’s gonna take up the first act? What’s gonna take the place of totale finsternis at act 2?

• The use of total eclipse of the heart definitely feels like an intentional joke here rather than just jim recycling his old stuff, and honestly it kind of works like that (though that’s only because this whole thing so far seems like one big parody)

• But if they don’t do the harmonies I’m gonna be so mad

• Or maybe I should just consider it a blessing tbh

• Nobody could ever beat drew and diana

• You’re so cool just because that’s what I think when I see Krolock that doesn’t mean that fits Sarah’s personality or what Krolock is supposed to be achieving (also Giovanni is most certainly Not Cool)

• Where I’ve paused it at 12:12 it looks like a meme. Crawford looks like he regrets everything and can I just say michael so does everybody else

• He looks like a potato or a rock or that neutral nicolas cage face that people put on the sequin cushion

• I hate that I kind of laughed at ‘and does he love me?’ ‘…Sarah.’

• She looks like a barbie doll

• Is he biting her already??

• Oh was he licking her neck?

• Why… don’t you celebrate… your birthday… at my castle? Oh my god

• This sounds like a poorly written krolock/reader wattpad fanfic

• Which is actually quite accurate

• He can’t gift her the sponge if the significance of the sponge hasn’t already been establisheddd

• Also just saying, the sponge krolock gives to her in tdv is much more impressive than that normal sized sponge, up ur game giovanni

Day 2: Garlic

• And we’re back for round 2!

• So far garlic seems to have a similar vibe to the original, probably because the original was pretty dumb

• Yeah pretty much the same as the original

• But if there’s no frozen alfred and professor yet, what’s even going on?

• And that’s over

• Oh so they’re just gonna arrive like that, no drama or anything?

• Ew why does alfred sound like that? He might as well be gaston

• Oh so they’re mentioning Krolock by name??? When they’re supposed to be pretending he doesn’t exist?

• Oh so that was a mistake by an idiot, I see. Was this in the original?

• The whole smelling like feet thing is kind of funny, I hate to admit it. It’s just a shame it doesn’t fit Alfred’s character

• All in all, ignoring the fact that alfred is all wrong and not frozen, this scene is going pretty well. The jokes are quite good

• Well chagal is less sexist and abusive here which is nice but ultimately removes sarah’s motivations

• A blood transfusion??

• I don’t even know what to say, these jokes are kinda gross

• Orange and black crepe paper? A pumpkin?? The prophecy thing? This is just stupid

• The pumpkin probably would scare giovanni away though

Sarah and Alfred’s duet doesn’t work when they’re both in THE SAME ROOM

• This is boring ugh they just met but not even in the way they did originally

• Where’s krolock to invite her to the ball? Oh wait, they already met, and it’s giovanni

• Dammit I love the einladung zum ball scene

• Did they even check blood types?? Oh wait it’s 18whatever supposedly

• Ew they’re supposed to bond over sponges not journals

• Oh here’s chagal’s gross song. Marginally less gross in this context to be fair but still

• Ha no one will abuse you except for you huh chagal

• This is horrible

• Where’s the drama, the impressive teleportation, the cape swishing, the mystery, the music?

• But I guess giovanni is just Like That

• Krolock wouldn’t complain about the smell, he would pull a face but that would be it

• The joke about the mirrors..? Is giovanni really that stupid or is he self aware and is joking with the audience?

• And the way he just stands there facing the audience in silence as they laugh… he’s got to be self aware

• Also this whole thing is so stupid in its attempts to be funny that I bet we won’t even get die unstillbare gier because giovanni could never pull off anything so genuine or serious (nor could any of the others though)

• Oh god are they semi doing einladung zum ball with the never enough stuff? But it’s not even dramatic or powerful enough ughhh

• Nooooo they made it sound all sappy and romantic when it’s supposed to be dark and commanding and… I don’t even have the words to describe it but no this is awful

• Also the lyrics feel so much more shallow than the original… and the original was so full of what was probably too many syllables that this just feels empty and drawn out

• Oh I’ve got it! Giovanni is like trying to convince her kindly like, oh sarah, that would never be enough for you, darling whereas krolock is stating a powerful fact, he’s like that would never be enough. Krolock knows that she knows and is just kind of showing her that he understands her and she should join him.

• Also michael if you sing the long note at the end, it needs to be meaningful, powerful, entrancing, inviting, exciting, dark, strong. You can’t just do a weedy weak version with no power and no meaning or purpose to the scene

• Why is mars rising

• Oh is it supposed to be a blood moon I bet it is

• This is new…

• The lyrics are all hey sarah, you can do whatever cool stuff you want, the dark side is fun haha

• There’s no story, no appeal to her character development or deeper motivations

• The staging is boring. They’re just stood there. Like two pigeons aimlessly squawking at each other, only one pigeon has decided it won’t shut up

• Giovanni’s makeup and hair are all wrong too

• Dear god only 45 minutes in

• Oh so chagal is frozen and bitten at the very least

• Oh magda and mrs chagal are both singing

• The harmonies are nice, I’ll give them that

• Ah here he goes

• Ew why is he a dog

• Oh mrs krolock is back

• Ooh manipulative he lies

• Ew alfred no kissing without asking first

• And here’s draussen ist freiheit

• Oh but it’s not about freedom, it’s bravery instead

• Why has it got a a dance beat now

• Oh no giovanni’s voice is ruining everything again

• Every time I think the music is actually alright, giovanni’s weaselly voice ruins everything

• Ah finally the end of act 1, though lesss cool when not on a house

• At only 1 hour and 4 minutes, we’ve done it. Halfway through. This is where things should start getting good but of course that probably won’t happen.

• Wait we didn’t even get gott ist tot

• Oh no here it is

• Sounds like they’re keeping it the same

• Ok michael you’re not doing too badly

• *cough* But hey that’s probably because you’re sticking to the source material *cough*

• Ah ok now it’s the end of act 1 at 1 hour, 6 minutes and 30 seconds.

• And what an hour, 6 minutes and 30 seconds they’ve been

• So, before we move on, a quick summary:

• The better parts are the parts where they actually stick to the source material

• Giovanni is the polar opposite of Krolock and therefore cannot even be called Krolock

• The jokes are awful but sometimes funny

• I’m dreading act 2

• Dear god we haven’t even seen herbert yet

• And if sarah is already at the castle, is totale finsternis even going to happen again?

• I guess we’ll find out whether we want to or not in…

I need to ramble about OG SKAM and remakes, and it's gonna be a long-ass post !

Before I begin, just to be clear : I haven’t watched all of SKAM NL, and I didn’t really like SKAM Austin. Well, I watched the first episode of SKAM Austin a while back, but I didn’t really wanna watch the rest of it, so...yeah.

So far, I watched the whole of SKAM Italia, and OG SKAM of course. I watched parts of season 1 & 2, and then from season 3 of SKAM France until current season 6; season 2 of SKAM España; the first episodes of SKAM NL; part of season 1, then complete season 3 Druck; and some of the season 1, the complete season 3 of WTFock, as well as WTFockdown, though.

Anyway, I was talking with my wonderful beta-reader, @unfinishedbusinessss​ a couple weeks ago,and thought, wow, I can’t even begin to rank Even & Isak’s versions in every remake, each couple has chemistry, and I can’t even pick a favorite among the remakes !

This got me thinking, I kinda wanted to do a humongous post about the whole SKAMverse though, not just the Evak versions.

Obviously, OG SKAM will always be first, and Even & Isak are just...OTP, forever. I fell in love with their story so much, but I feel like every remake managed to get me to fall in love with every Even & Isak’s version, and I wasn’t prepared fo that, tbh. Vilde is so irritating. Noora is the best character in the whole SKAMverse, and William is an ass. I loved Sana’s season so much it hurts, and Yousef is a sweetheart. Cried during the whole Jonas’ speech at the end, and during the Vilde-Chris scene as well, even though I don’t like Vilde ! That’s saying something. Isak is one of my favorite characters, but Even comes close. Eskild is my precious child.

Top 5 characters from OG SKAM :

1. Noora Amalie Sætre (wow, what an icon ! I mean, I kinda wish they would’ve dropped her whole storyline with William, because I definitely do not care for him, and I like Noora’s opinions in season 1 & the beginning of season 2. I love that she’s a feminist, so much more mature than the rest of the girls’ squad, and her introduction in the show, when she meets Eva, is jus perfect. I loved her from the first second ! Red lipstick looks incredibly good on her too, just saying.)

2. Isak Valtersen (I can’t tell you how much I like and relate to Isak, me, a 31-year old woman. (lol) He’s very much a teenage version of myself back in the days ! I like his inner battles, his friendship with Jonas is everything. His internalized homophobia is portrayed very realistically, I might add. I liked his character from quite early on, but his season just did it for me. Tarjei Sandvik Moe is a very good actor, we got so lucky with his casting in this role ! I love his character development from season 1 to season 4. He’s grown so much in such a short period of time !)

3. Even Bech Næsheim (okay, let me start with the obvious : Henrik Holm’s smile, eyes and laugh had me gone from the start. He’s gorgeous and I can definitely see why Isak fell for him ! His character is soooo well written, Henrik portrays Even so beautifully and with so many nuances, I loved every on-screen minute Even gets in season 3 and season 4. He’s got so much layers ! I also liked that we were all lost because of his atttitude when we watched season 3 of OG, because what the hell’s happening right now, Even ?! That’s really a proof of how amazing Henrik was in this role. And their chemistry was off the charts from their very first scene together, which doesn’t hurt either !)

4. Jonas Noah Vasquez (amazing best friend to Isak when he needs it !)

5. Sana Bakkoush (queen ! I love her so much, she’s definitely an iconic character ! I think all of the Sanas in the remakes don’t even come close to her, but Imane in SKAM France is amazing, Amira in SKAM España is fantastic, Yasmina in WTfock is sooooo good (can’t wait for her season !!), and Amira in Druck is freakin’ amazing as well. But like I said, Sana in OG SKAM is definitely the most fantastic one !)

SKAM France

When I heard they were making remakes, I honestly thought, “okay, so they’re gonna make seven different copies in seven different countries ?” It didn’t make any sense at the time. 

So when SKAM France aired, I watched from afar, terrified that they would mess this up in the only way the French knows how (I’m French myself), and I didn’t really fell in love with the first two seasons. I didn’t even like Lucas, to be honest. He was a minor character in the background, and I didn’t expect to fall in love with Lucas and Eliott’s story as much as I did. I also didn’t expect their love scenes to be this tasteful and beautiful, so I was kinda blown away by that, and by their chemistry. The piano scene and the paint scene will forever be on my mind whenever I think about season 3 of SKAM France. I also fell in love with Imane, to be honest. She’s gorgeous, and her season with Sofiane was amazing. I didn’t expect to like “Le gang” as much as I did either. Mahdi and Magnus in OG SKAM are not really among my favorite characters, but boy did I liked Arthur and Basile. Both the actors are amazing, which tremendously helps ! I didn’t find Daphné as irritating as Vilde in OG SKAM though, don’t know why. She might actually be in my top 5, whereas Vilde is one of my least favorite characters in OG SKAM, with Emma of course. Oh, and I love the fact that Alexia is bisexual in this version ! That’s such a good addition !

I loved season 5. I was kinda dreading it at first, but when I learnt that it was gonna be based on Arthur, I was kinda relieved. I think Robin Migné is a terrific actor, and his performance during this whole season is just stellar !

So far, I quite like season 6. Maya will definitely enter my top 5 sometime very soon, honestly, and Lola’s not far behind her. Basile has redeemed himself so much since season 3 when I thought he was annoying as fuck !

Top 5 characters from SKAM France :

1. Lucas Lallemant (that guy. We’ve been blessed, you guys : Axel Auriant is a freakin’ incredible actor, which makes the character all the more realistic and likeable. I’ll be forever impressed by episode 7 of season 3, especially the beginning with the scene on the couch with Mika and Manon, where Lucas is crying because of Yann’s stupid reaction to Lucas coming out. What a shitty friend, honestly...)

2. Imane Bakhellal (she’s so fierce and I almost like her even better than I did Sana in OG SKAM. She’s beautiful and witty AF, I loved her season !)

3. Alexia Martineau (bi queen with colored hair, I love her so much !!)

4. Arthur Broussard (he grew on me sooo much in season 5, but I liked him from the start, tbh)

5. Manon Demissy (although I didn’t get around to watch her own season yet, but I hate Charles’ character with a passion, so I can’t bring myself to watch it yet...)

SKAM Italia (SKAM Italy)

Oh boy, does this remake has a particular place in my heart. I’m in love with the Italian language, have been for YEARS literally, and I think the whole cast is just gorgeous ! Eva might be my favorite Eva version to date. Season 4 was just SO GOOD, OMG, and I don’t even like Italian Sana that much, but wow, this was amazing !

Top 5 characters from SKAM Italia :

1. Martino Rametta (what a surprise ! It’s not a secret : Martino means the world to me. I was drawn to him very fast, very deeply. Maybe it’s because Federico Cesari is one hell of a an actor, maybe that’s because of his boyish cute freckly smiley charm, whatever; but he’s my number one favorite character from the whole SKAMverse. I can’t explain, really. He’s got something about him that just...makes me squeal every time I see him on screen. His season was SO GOOD YOU GUYS. I loved that we got to see his relationship with his mom. I loved the way Fede portrays his emotions, his inner battles, his fears. The way he acts with his eyes. And boy, season 4 was fireworks. Fede was always good, but season 4 was AMAZING. That scene with Sana is all kinds of incredible. Martino has never looked this good. He never looked so open, raw, vulnerable. His storyline with Niccolò kinda broke my heart, to be honest, but we got so much Martino screen time, I’m not complaining. He’s a gem. I’ll never not like Martino, he’s my person. I just connect with him so much, I can’t even explain it clearly !)

2. Giovanni Garau (”con la u finale, perché è sardo” ! Giovanni, aka the best Jonas in the entire SKAMverse. I loved OG Jonas, as well as German Jonas, don’t get me wrong, but Giovanni is ALWAYS there for Martino, and their friendship definitely fall into the brOTP category ! I love how supportive he is all through season 2, fights for Martino’s right to be happy and in love in public in season 3, and just never leaves his side in season 4. We’ve been blessed with this character you guys ! The male characters in SKAM Italia are so strong and likeable, it’s not even funny !)

3. Filippo Sava (one of the most amazing versions of Eskild to ever exist. I don’t have enough words to describe how much I LOVE this character ! Pietro Turano did an amazing job, wow. If Milan in WtFOCK wasn’t so fantastic, I’d definitely put Filippo in first place in the Eskild versions ranking !)

4. Niccolò Fares (I think Rocco Fasano did a fantastic job portraying Niccolò ! He’s definitely an underrated actor. Loved Niccolò quite late in season 2 though, but from the moment their first kiss happened, I fell in love with their story. And season 4 was just SO GOOD. We definitely get a side of Niccolò we didn’t even get with Even in OG SKAM, and his clip in episode 10 is amazing. Kudos Rocco, you definitely deserve recognition for your portrayal of  Niccolò !)

5. Eva Brighi (one of the best Evas in the whole SKAMverse, IMO !)

SKAM España (SKAM Spain)

I’m not gonna ramble too much on this remake, especially because it might be the one I connected the less with, and I’ve only seen season 2 so far. Might be an unpopular opinion, but Cris gets on my nerves sometimes, that’s why she’s not in my top 5 characters from this particular remake.

Top 5 characters from SKAM España :

1. Lucas Rubio Fernández (the spanish Eskild, I think he’s cute AF, and incredibly brave. I really loved all of his interactions with Cris in season 2, he’s bringing her some wisdom she didn’t even knew she needed !)

2. Joana Bianchi Acosta (queen. I quickly was drawn to her character, I think from the moment we see her in her first scene with Cris. Tamara Ronchese is fantastic !)

3. Amira Naybet (OMG, her reaction to Cris coming out is everything !! Can’t wait to see her season !)

4. Nora Grace (she reminds me so much of OG Noora sometimes, it’s uncanny ! She has such a graceful presence !)

5. Dani Soto Peña (Cris’ older brother. I quite liked that we got to see Cris’ family in this version, her mother and brother. Dani was soooo annoying at first, but he was sooo sweet to Cris from the moment he drove her to the hospital to see Joana, and that scene when they smoke together on the terrace is everything. Such an accurate sibling scene !)

Druck (SKAM Germany)

Hooooooly wow, this remake is FREAKIN’ FANTASTIC. I finally watched season 3 during lockdown, so it’s very recent, but GOD it gave me so many feelings ! That version of Isak and Even is everything. 

Top 5 characters from Druck :

1. David Schreibner (KING. Holy wow, Lukas Alexander/von Horbatschewsky is GOLD. He got me crying more than once. David’s story actually changes a lot from OG SKAM, but thank youuu Druck for shining a light on transgender’s representation in TV shows. David is a sooo well written character, he struggles a lot, but he’s relatable in so many ways. Wow, he’s just such a layered and complex character, I was blown away, really. And again, THANK YOU Druck for showing a sex scene with a transgender character, and him having an open conversation with Matteo about his struggle and how he sees himself is soo so important. It is so important to feel represented in movies and TV shows, I’m truly so thankful for this version of SKAM. Thank you Lukas !)

2. Matteo Florenzi (Matteo is an actual teenager, his portrayal is on point, and I felt his pain from the start. Michelangelo Fortuzzi did an amazing job, wow. Matteo grew on me so much in just one episode, it’s actually scary ! By the end of the first episode I wanted him to be happy, dump Sara, and just kiss David already.)

3. Jonas Augustin (Matteo has such an amazing best friend, with such a good singing voice ! Episode 10 of season 3 had me shook ! Iconic episode !)

4. Amira Mahmood (just a word for you : QUEEN ! Amira’s iconic ! I can’t wait to watch her season !)

5. Sam M’Pele (LOVE Chris’ version in Druck ! She’s awesome and so stylish ! I’m in love with her hair !)

WTfock (SKAM Belgium)

Yet again, I actually caught up on WTfock during lockdown, since Druck and WTfock were the only remakes I never watched at this point. And yet again, I was BLOWN AWAY. WTfock got me feeling so many things, and I only watched season 3 and WTfockdown. Wow. hOLY WOW. Might be one of my favorite remake, it’s SO GOOD.

Top 5 characters from WTfock :

1. Milan Hendrickx (the flemish Eskild, one of my fave characters in all of the SKAMverse ! FUCK, Lars Brinkman knocks it out of the park, he truly does ! Milan is by far my favorite Eskild character. He’s sooo supportive, he’s a true friend, he’s funny AF - OMG, that scene where he tries to flirt with Moyo got me howling with laughter !! And he’s loyal. I love that he’s almost a father figure to Robbe, who definitely needs it ! That scene in episode 6 when Robbe tells him about the homophobic assholes...His reaction...I think I cried for like a good five minutes when I watched this, I couldn’t catch my breath. Milan’s precious, and we must protect him at all costs. A favorite. I’m in love with him, his supportiveness, his loyalty to Robbe, his smile, his affection for both Zoë and Robbe. They matter so much to him. He’s a sweetheart !)

2. Robbe IJzermans (FUCK I didn’t expect to feel so much things when watching season 3. Robbe is the Isak version that goes through the hardest stuff. His own internalized homophobia is sooo painful to witness... Jens is supportive when he comes out, but then Moyo and Aaron act like the biggest jerks on the planet, they just have this RIDICULOUS reaction when Robbe tries to tell them thay he's into Sander...And the end of episode 5 is awful. I just can't. He's gone through so much that season,it's insane. And yet by the end of episode 10, my heart felt so full for him and Sander finally happy...Gosh. What a rollercoaster...Willem Herbots is insanely cute and wow how well did he conveys Robbe's emotions. I'm speechless !)

3. Sander Driesen (holy wow this character is sooo good ! I was wondering at the beginning of episode 3 when we'll get to see him, and the minute he appeared on screem, him and Robbe instantly had that insane chemistry. Which peaked in the first kiss, in the pool in episode 4. That scene, that sing, that intensity...Yeah, Robbe and Sander bewitched me !)

4. Zoë Loockx (such a good character as well !)

5. Yasmina Ait Omar (can't waiiiit for her season !)

This is gonna short and sweet, since I’ve only seen a couple episodes, but I already like quite a few characters so far !

1. Liv Reijners (what a badass character ! She’s beautiful and fierce, what a great Noora version ! I love her so much and I haven’t even watched her season yet !)

2. Isa Keijser (very relatable version of Eva, I must say. She’s cute AF and I love her friendship with Liv !)

3. Janna Mertens (one of the best Chris’ versions I’ve ever witnessed so far ! She has a unique look, and I think she’s an awesome female character !)

4. Lucas van der Heijden (a sneaky little shit I just love ! I’m sad we won’t get his season though...He’s very attractive, and I would have loved to see him meet his Even...)

I keep trying to pinpoint what it is about skamitalia that’s so amazing but the right words keep eluding me. It’s a feeling first and foremost but the words that keep popping up is real and warm and authentic. They didn’t use a well known formular but went against the flow and out of it came something unique and special.

anon, i couldn’t agree with you more! i think for me it’s the characters (and how different and adaptive they are) — but even more than that, the relationships between the characters.

i’ll even start with s1 — eva and gio. in the end it’s the same story, and gio is still kind of an ass to eva, but i rooted for them (and still do!! the only eva x jonas in any universe i ship tbh) so hard because they just felt so… real with each other? the intimacy was outstanding and the drama that only teenagers can seem to replicate felt extremely real. and even if gio was kind of an ass to her i still felt so much love from his end? the two aren’t mututally exclusive (not saying that’s healthy, but damn is it realistic).

even the girl squad… one of my favorite things about them is skamit didn’t try to replicate russ, like, in the slightest. not even with some other school event or club or outside activity. silvia was just abandoned by her friends and lonely and looking to make new ones but still wanting to hold on to that ‘cool girl’ essence her shitty old friends had and like? it worked so well? that felt so real to me? they naturally all came together because of her and i feel like that made the bond between the girls very real, because it established from the beginning they were all kind of newbies or outcasts. girl squad dynamics in the remakes have been a BIG hit or miss for me and skamit was a major hit.

and like, don’t even get me started on the boy squad?? just… peak friendship. i love love love how i can so easily see them being friends individually and within the group. gio and marti dynamics? amazing. gio and elia dynamics? perfecto. i can even see marti and luchi being like, silly stupid bffs? i’ve said this a million times already but i love it so i’m going to keep saying it: the skamit boy squad bond was so strong and loving and caring and calculated because s2 of skamit wasn’t just for the lgbtq community — it was also for the straight allies (or soon to be straight allies) to give them role models of how guys should act if their friends feel comfortable enough like marti to come out to them. boys need friends like giovanni and squads like the contrabbandieri who basically say toxic masculinity who? and stick up for their friends and keep being their friends and remind them nothing has changed. skamit literally said BE THE GIOVANNI FRIEND. and we all should, and we should all feel lucky if we have a giovanni friend. anyway i love them with my whole heart and i would be floored and impressed if any boy squad came close to the wonderful dynamics they have.

and, lastly, my lovely marti and nico. i could write an essay on why everything about them worked so perfectly but i do not have the time. i think my favorite thing about their relationship was this underlying sense of inevitability. no ‘true love’ or ‘love at first sight’ here, folks. which just made it so real. they have just this ultra-powerful draw to one another and a sense of something is going to happen, and it’s going to be great. their comfort with each other is their intimacy and that just? makes me tear up a little? again, just so realistic.

also, marti and nico feel like marti and nico and no one else. it truly helps me just disconnect skamit from the skam + remakes fandom because i can see it so separately.

basically, skamit’s characterization and character dynamics are on another plane of existence with a sense of realism that’s so hard to capture. but they did it. and it’s amazing 💛

sO cassidy is the oldest of five kiddos. she’s got a twin brother that she’s older than by ten minutes, a half brother (13), and two half sisters (15 and 11)

cass and her twin brother were born in ashmont, ct to rebecca turner and an unknown man (to the twins anyway). their mom always claims it was a fling. he was a musician, and he had left before she found out she was pregnant.

so here you have a 20 year old suddenly now raising twins on her own. she actually did pretty well for the most part and raised her kids to be gr8

cassidy doesn’t ever TRY to be bitter abt it but sometimes it just,,,, happens??? and she hates herself for it bc he didn’t know but how do u leave a pregnant lady on her own idk

when the twins were four, their mom met a  man and eventually married him!! they had three kids over the next few years, which now upped the kiddo count to 5 and they were one big happy family!!!

tbh cass saw him as her father, since he was around from when she was really young, and he was a big part of her life growing up

around this time she met daisey and the two became fast friends!! they spent basically every day together throughout their childhood (more on that later)

but THEN, tragedy struck (bc why would i let my muses be happy who do u think i am)

when cassidy was 15, her step father unexpectedly passed away, and the family was left without any direction. they didn’t have a lot of money to begin with, but now one income to feed six people was not an easy task.

with the combination of grieving, money stress, and probably fear,  her mother fell into a deep depression, finding a coping mechanism through booze. she lost her job along the way, and slowly the money that was left was fading fast.

cass and her twin brother basically took that as a sign that they needed to take responsibility to keep their family alive, so they immediately took up any jobs they could find, just to keep money coming in.

most of their paychecks went into a bank account that would help the kids get by, since their mother didn’t do much of anything to help anymore.

this situation really tore up cassidy’s relationship with her mom, and most of what she feels is resentment and anger towards her mother, even though her brother doesn’t have that same opinion.

around this same time, her friendship with daisey started to fall apart, quicker than she would have imagined. it was a natural drift, coming apart due to daisey’s increasing popularity and cassidy’s lackthereof. nothing was malicious, which made it even tougher. she still misses that friendship sometimes, despite what others say about the girl.

throughout high school, cassidy worked her hardest to get high grades, because she knew that without a scholarship she wouldn’t be able to afford college otherwise.

she hardly got anything below an A, was involved in everything club that she could, and graduated as the salutatorian. she worked hard enough to receive enough scholarship money to cover most of her cost in school.

she’s currently in her final year as a musical theatre major!!!! she’s a nerd abt it too don’t open up a conversation about theatre unless u wanna lose a few hours

cassidy has been involved in so many creative arts let me tell u. she discovered her first love in theatre at seven years old, which was soon followed by singing and dance lessons within the year. throughout the next decade, her love for the performing and the visual arts only grew over time, and some new passions were also discovered.

she also found that she had a talent in photography and writing when she was in high school after a friend convinced her to sign up for the yearbook. what started as just a way to gain another credit and add to her college applications turned into a passion that she would continuously want to pursue. it wouldn’t be her career, but she’d always find a way to keep doing it.

because of these passions, it was no surprise that cassidy would take to social media as another creative outlet. what started out as just posting videos from theatre performances on youtube began to grow into something more, and before she knew it, she was a recognizable name on the platform. she hadn’t planned on becoming an internet personality, but  now that she has, she wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

cassidy has been actively posting videos on youtube for about three years now (essentially since starting college), and her channel currently has about 120 thousand subscribers. her channel mainly focuses on theatre related content, vlogs, advice, and a handful of videos related to bullet journaling and challenges.

a lil hc- cass’ channel is basically a  mix of katherine steele and jenna marbles

she also has a pretty strong following on instagram, so she’s all abt aesthetics and making her page always look neat and pretty

cassidy can be described as a walking advice column disguised as a mom friend. she is incredibly warm and welcoming, (which can even be seen in the clothes she chooses to wear), and she always has a kind word or smile to give anyone that crosses her path on a day to day basis.

she has been known in the past to strike up a conversation with a stranger, just because she liked their shirt, or they share the same coffee order. if someone comes up to her on the street needing advice, she’ll give it to them in a heartbeat, even it’s a simple “dump him”. she’d probably give you the shirt off her back if you asked her nicely (pls ask nicely)

she doesn’t like to make a habit of sharing some of the deep dark past things that were mentioned earlier, mainly because of how many of her classmates come from money. because of this, she’s never truly felt like she fit in amongst the wealthy community that attends and surrounds the university. she’s always trying to fit in with her peers, but nothing ever seems to be enough.

ever since the news of daisey’s disappearance, cassidy has truly been at a loss for words, or even thoughts. for almost fifteen years of her life, there had hardly been a day where cassidy  wouldn’t see daisey’s face, even in passing between classes after their friendship ended. since then, she still looks for her as she walks around campus, as if the whole thing was a dream, and daisey rutherford is still around and running st. etienne university.

on to the finish line! The Alienist, 1x09 and 1x10

I really, really don’t like that Mary was killed. I think it’s fair to call this fridging - Mary’s death is primarily significant because Laszlo loves(/d) her - she didn’t really have an onscreen arc of her own - although the show certainly implies she’s had quite a journey to become the woman she is.

That being said, I appreciate that the scene at her funeral features Stevie and Cyrus, who were members of her household and her friends, and that John reads at the interment. It’s not much, but at least the show makes and effort to be clear she was a beloved member of a community, no matter how small. The character deserved better, but I’ve seen much worse.

Also, because this show really wanted to hurt me, Theodore Roosevelt, in offering his sympathies to Laszlo, tells him “Please forgive me for offering the same advice you once gave me. You are not alone in your sorrow, and there’s no shame in grieving for those you love.” Presumably Laszlo told him that in February of 1884, when Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt, his first wife, died hours after Roosevelt’s mother, Mittie Bullock Roosevelt (on February 14th, too). I appreciate the validation: that Mary was just as important to Laszlo as Alice had been to TR. Doesn’t help with the fridging, but it lends narrative weight to Mary’s short arc.

(also, Laszlo kissing the earth her throws on Mary’s coffin is a new standard of pain for me.)

honestly, Lucius should have let Marcus bash Doyle’s skull in. how many slurs can a man fit into a two minute interrogation? jesus. forget van Bergen, Doyle and Connor make me want to scrub until my skin comes off.

The short scene between Stevie and Cyrus after Mary’s funeral is the most important scene. Stevie, scrubbing dishes, taking up the space that Mary should be in, crying and swearing he’s going to get Connor? Cyrus nonchalantly sharpening a pocketknife and telling Stevie that he doesn’t have to cut a man’s throat to kill him, he just needs to nick a vein?  again, they were Mary’s friends and surrogate family. Their grief, especially as those who have been wronged by society and the police/criminal justice system in the past, is important.

I genuinely was not expecting that, that the murderer had been an enumerator. 

it’s always cats. Seriously, this show talked about the connection between cruelty to animals and cruelty towards humans - kill animals as an early warning sign? - but I, personally, would have loved a digression on the connection in between reformers trying to eliminate cruelty to children and cruelty to animals in the late 19th century.

Theodore Roosevelt: Moment Killer. c’mon, let Sara and John have an actual conversation and heart-to-heart already.

oh, man. This conversation between Sara and Laszlo was heavy, hurt, and was a really, really long time coming. I’m glad Laszlo finally apologized for hitting her, and meant it - he’s been cavalier with the harm he’s done others. And ... jesus. What an admission from Sara. It’s understandable, just knowing that her father died by suicide, that her father is a sore subject and that the lessons he taught her are so sacred. But that he’d tried and failed, and - at 12 years old! - she’d helped him kill himself because he asked? I paused the episode and just put my head in my hands. And thank Christ Laszlo acted like her friend, finally, and not the titular alienist. ~Growth~

(I’m less surprised by Laszlo’s own admission - that his father broke his arm so badly as a child it never healed properly - though, again, it’s a sincerely painful moment, but two things? it’s been hinted at since episode six, and, coming on the heels of Sara’s confession, it feels less like a narrative blow and more like a blood-letting: a clearing of the air, an apology, a pact.)

well, the murderer is Private Starks. That’s something? I’m always glad to see my Mercy Street folks popping up elsewhere but, wow, this is going to kill my ability to watch 1x05 and 1x06, now.

awww, if it isn’t one of my favorite tropes: bidding farewell to loved ones before going into danger. Marcus Isaacson AND Teddy R. 

we take the moment to put the plot on hold in order to reveal that John’s fiance didn’t just dump him, Julia Pratt left him to pursue a relationship with John Jacob Astor IV! DAMN.

Laszlo really had to wait until the last scene of the opera, when Don Giovanni gets dragged to Hell, in order to make a break for it?! thematically appropriate and solidifying his position as the most dramatic.

ohhhhhh, man. this whole sequence makes me so claustrophobic I’m itching. maybe that’s the wrong word? The atmosphere is so oppressive, the darkness pushing in on all sides, the water steadily dripping? Well done, show.

... I honestly expected Laszlo to be angrier, more upset? when Connor confronts him. They all know Connor killed Mary. But bravo, Sara, for killing Connor. Finally.

Roosevelt telling Sara her father would have been proud of her is such a bittersweet moment!

HE HAD A RING FOR MARY IM NOT OKAY on the one hand, Laszlo, you only managed to ask her to have dinner with you one (1) time! but also rather in character for him, all told, that he’d have gotten that far ahead of himself but at the end of the day, I repeat, I am not okay with this information. 

Honestly, John staring at Sara with hearts in his eyes? hard same.

“I still believe we can be better than nature intended.” bold words for someone who’s just been through nearly a half year of Hell. Proud of you, Laszlo.

So that’s it! This has been ... quite a ride. I think it’s pretty clear this show’s the product of the 90s - when the book was written - its concerns about the origins of serial killers & the development of forensic science, and, honestly, how it deals with women and people of color. It did have some of the Good Stuff re: social commentary and critiques of power and especially police forces. I stand by my observation - that some of the dialogue and plotting was clunky, and, looking back on the episodes, it dragged a little bit in the middle for me. I’m curious about how the book stacks up, tbh. All in all, not bad for something I watched almost entirely for the costume and set design (and Daniel Bruhl). Will watch again?

14 - Favorite Villainous Team

Buckle up everyone and get ready for a leisurely trip through HYPERFOCUS TOWN.

I can not stress enough how utterly terrifying the very concept of Team Plasma is. Black and White really stepped up their story-telling capabilities, telling a deeply personal and emotional story for the first time in the series. (I love Sinnoh as much as everyone else but we can not ignore the Facts™) When the player first meets Team Plasma they are rallying up civilians behind their cause by manipulation. Ghetsis monologues very effectively about how he can no longer stand to see Pokémon oppressed by humans, and that they must be liberated from the tyranny of trainers and Pokeballs. Now, as the player who has been through 4 generations of this stuff before, we take one look at Ghetsis and Team Plasma and say “bad guys”. That is not the case for the citizens of Unova, who have just had their eyes opened to the startling truth that they are slave-drivers to their captive Pokémon. Ghetsis and his followers don’t go running about stealing meteors and ancient artifacts in broad daylight. They aren’t blowing up landmarks. They are speaking to the people, and that is a far more dangerous tactic than the brute force used by previous bosses.

 Then we meet N. N does not scream “BAD GUY” like Ghetsis does. He isn’t clad in some weird robe and have a Dragonball scouter over his eye. He looks like we do; like a protagonist, a trainer. He has a strange way of speaking and an odd vibe from his child-like music that accompanies his appearance, but overall he seems like a genuinely concerned individual who worries for Pokémon’s safety. Wouldn’t you? Then comes the bombshell on the ferris wheel. “I am the king of Team Plasma.” KING? Not leader. Not admin. King. This teenage boy has been raised his whole life to believe he is royalty, a prophet with the ability to speak to Pokémon. With each encounter with the player, his strong beliefs sway and falter a little bit, like pulling blocks out of a Jenga tower. He can speak to Pokémon, and all his life they only told him what horrors the human oppressors put them through; so why does this trainer’s team seem to tell him of the love they have for their human friend? The line between truth and ideals has always been Black and White for N. (Roll credits)

N’s faith in his task is broken further and further until he is chosen by Reshiram/Zekrom as the Hero of Unova, who’s pure heart shines true with the power of his correct truth/ideals. How could the legendary Pokémon that created Unova be wrong? How could they choose N as their hero if his heart was in darkness? How could they choose someone who is incorrect? They didn’t.

In the final act of the game it is revealed just how diabolical and sickening Ghetsis really is. Ghetsis is revealed to be N’s father (whether that’s biological or not is up for debate) and you find the disturbing truth within N’s childhood memories. N was conditioned from birth to believe humans and Pokémon were opposites. Ghetsis only showed N Pokémon who had been hurt or harmed by humans. Ghetsis only taught N the twisted lies about humanity. Ghetsis showered N with praises for being a pure heart who wanted to help Pokémon. Ghetsis lead the Team Plasma movement to rally behind N’s kind-hearted belief that all Pokémon should be free from harm and safe. Ghetsis lied. Ghetsis’ plan needed purity, it needed innocence. Nobody would rally behind this man as he strong-armed everyone for power. No. He needed a heavenly figure to tug at the heartstrings of everyone he met, he needed someone who believed they were undoubtedly correct in their practice. He needed the innocence of a child. Ghetsis did not only abuse N, he created an entire world to ensure N never escaped his abuse.

All of this for what? For N to be a prophet? For N to be king of Unova? For N to finally accomplish his goal of freeing his friends from tyranny? No. Not for N. For Ghetsis. For Ghetsis to mask his malicious intent behind the sweet face of an innocent child. For Ghetsis to weaken the world by removing Pokémon from trainers who could rise up to fight back. For Ghetsis to control the Hero of Unova and his heart of pure ideals.

Now that we understand Ghetsis’ disgustingly negligent intentions, lets go back to N and the Hero of Unova story. In the final act, N has now been chosen as the Hero of either truth or ideals by either Reshiram or Zekrom. His faith is restored in his quest; the dragon Pokémon chose him. He must be right and you, the protagonist, must be wrong. Black and White. Wrong and Right. But he is a young boy, a curious young boy. He allows a test right under Ghetsis’ nose. He proposes you with the twin dragon of either Reshiram or Zekrom, opposite to the one that chose him as the Hero. He needs to know that you are wrong. And you are not. As faith would allow, Reshiram/Zekrom chooses you, the player, as the twin Hero alongside N. But HOW? In this world that Ghetsis created for N, the possibility of alternate perspectives both being right did not exist. The player taught N more in that moment than Ghetsis ever could. The player showed N that he didn’t understand the world as Ghetsis taught him; that the TRUTH of the world was far from he was taught.

Ghetsis recognizes the confliction in N’s heart and snaps. After being cool and collected through this entire journey, he shows his true colors. He verbally abuses N, dehumanizing him as a “freak without a human heart”. And then, he attacks the player. Ghetsis is different from other Team Bosses. Cyrus, Maxie, Giovanni, they all battled the player’s Pokémon. Ghetsis’ battle isn’t a competition, it is survival. You are defending your life from this man who has no qualms about killing a child. After he is defeated and his plans are revealed to the world, N decides to leave Unova with his legendary dragon. He wants to explore the world for himself so that nobody can alter his opinions. He knows now that the world isn’t as black and white as he once thought, and he has nobody to thank except you.

This was a literal essay about how no villain in this franchise can even come close to the level of calculated evil that Ghetsis portrayed. This is only one of two games that he appears in as well. While Giovanni, Archie, Lysandre etc. might have been sociopathic and incorrect in their beliefs, none of them wielded a child as their greatest weapon. Ghetsis molded innocence into a weapon, and one line from Pokémon Black and White sums up the power he wielded. “But there is nothing more beautiful and terrifying than innocence.”

So that was an hour and a half I spent right! I could type a whole other essay filled with the subtle evils of Ghetsis and Team Plasma. That was a LOT OF FUN THANK YOU SO MUCH @shuckle FOR PROMPTING THAT. You had no idea you’d be hit with a thesis and tbh I didn’t expect to type that. But I love N and I hate Ghetsis.

Favorite and least favorite couple from s1? Basically who did a great job as Eva and Jonas and who flopped, and do you think any of them outdone eva and jonas?

Oh it’s a good question that I’ve actually been thinking about a lot. Maybe it’s because of the fact that this is the only couple we’ve seen in every remake so far. Here is my opinion of every version (that no one really asked for).

In the OG I didn’t have deep feelings for this couple tbh. Maybe it was because not much context was given and I found the Jonas-Ingrid pairing odd and Jonas wasn’t all that empathetic towards Eva. Or because I was new to Skam and didn’t really know what to expect. *shrug*

Hannah and Jonas from Druck is my personal favourite. The german S1 has a special place in my heart because that one made me genuinely hope that they stay together. Jonas Augustin is my favourite S1 Jonas ever. He’s caring and (although he can act assholeish like all his counterparts) he’s shown to really care about Hanna. Their breakup was the saddest thing in the skamverse, because you saw that it hurted him to the bone that he’s the reason of Hanna’s sadness and knows he can’t do anything about it. I have a lot of feelings to this aight? And Hanna is so sweet too, so sweet. I’d love to see more of them in this season.

Eva and Jorge from Skam Espana are second. The great thing about the spanish version is that they went mad with the timeline and the story. And one awesome moment that came out of this is the extra clip where Eva sits on a bench and remembers the time before the beginning of the show, watches videos and texts. This clips so much context to them and we get to see they got together + the relationship problems between Inez and Jorge. It made me love so much more then before. Knowing more about their realtionship made me care about their problems.

Eva and Giovanni from Skam Italia. Kinda the same thing here, but the context that made me appriciate them more came in the second season where we spent more time with Gio. Now that it was shown how much he really loves his freinds puts their past relationship in a new perspective and makes it more real. And I love it.

Isa and Kes from Skam Nl. Fiercest Eva so far and I love her. Kes wasn’t bad but he didn’t really grow on me tbh. He’s cute and all but smiles at times where he shouldn’t really and his friends are terrible to Eva.

Jana and Jens from WTFock. The thing your the belgian version is that eventhough each of the characters are not my top picks the whole setting felt the most real out of all the Skams. I look at them and I can totally imagine them going to my old school. Jana actually looks like girls I know. Jens is has probably the most realistic perspective out of the Jonas’s and while the couple itself didn’t made a deep impact on me kudos for the young cast.

Megan and Marlon from Skam Austin. I didn’t really like Marlon, OG Jonas’s assholeness was the strongest in him. He wasn’t horrible but really wasn’t the one for Megan. As for her maybe she would’ve grown on me more if the actress was a bit more experienced. I liked Skam Asutin a lot but not because of this ship :/

And I  don’t follow Skam France (I started it but didn’t have any impact because it felt like a carbon copy) so I don’t have any opinion of Emma and Yann so… *shrug*

Yay! Episode 6! We’re finally getting to the real *Penetrator Chris voice* drama! This time I discuss  🐍 Marti, consent, insecurities, middle aged relatives and of course whether the episode passes the Bechdel test (not to sound like one of those clickbait headlines, but the result may surprise you!).

ok, but Marti in this scene? This is Marti pulling a S2!Gio: he notices something’s wrong with Eva, he tries to cheer her up, he cajoles her into talking to him, lets her deflect and answers her questions even if they’re out of the blue, then lets her talk when she finally confides in him

“Why do you say that?” is what betrays him, he know he knows he knowsss

I really wanna cut off those bangs though. Not even Zac Efron’s hair when it was at its peak HSM1-ishness was this annoying

oh-oh, there was an off screen fight? In which Gio gaslighted the hell out of Eva lying to her about being with his mom not Laura and calling her crazy? LudoBesse, you think by leaving it out of the final cut I wasn’t gonna get mad about it? Fuck off, I’ll have you know I’m royally pissed off about it!

“Stop it, dump him and that’s it. You can’t keep feeling like this” MARTINOOOO 🐍🐍🐍 he even makes it sound like he’s saying it for her! Honestly, this guy. He’d die a thousand painful deaths for Gio (just as bffs, aside from his crush) yet he still convinces Eva he’d kind-of-side with her in an hypothetical break up

I think what Martino does is best described as stirring shit up, then running away to watch that same shit hit the fan from a safe distance

at least he hesitates a second before dropping the “You could ask Laura” bomb

oh Silvia, Silvia. Not even one full orgasm in and already you’re talking like you’re out of a rom-com where the protagonist doesn’t want anything serious, yet with him…

orgasms and sneezing have only one thing in common afaik: they’re both controlled by the autonomic nervous system

Eleonora Sava in this scene is me and I’m her and we’re both telling Silvia off and being pissed at idiotic men who pressure girls into unsafe sexual practices

“He said he never uses it [a condom].” one sentence, three things confirmed: Edoardo always puts the burden of contraception on his female partners, he is very much promiscuous and has had unsafe sex already so he could have or carry any venereal disease yet still has unsafe sex with Silvia, Silvia gets pressured to have sex without a condom and that means the encounter was not completely consensual. Edoardo, for all that I empathized with him in the last episode, is an asshole.

I actually don’t consider him an asshole for not turning his back on Silvia when she waves at him, but I do for all the reasons I mentioned above. I’m so angry, you wouldn’t believe.

and what prompts Silvia to put aside her resentment towards Sana? A show of wealth. Cute.

OUCH, my poor heart. I wasn’t ready to see Eva with her hood pulled up and earphones on, the throwback (flashforward, actually?) to that first clip after the hiatus where Marti is walking much like that and listening to Earl Sweatshirt 😭 except this time the one who’s not answering their beloved is the protagonist, not the love interest

Gio really slips up badly, with that mother-father thing

my heart is honestly breaking for Eva, Giovanni has called her all kind of things for thinking he’s with Laura, paranoid, crazy, out of her mind; yet she’s only amassing more and more proof that he’s lying and since he won’t tell her why, she can’t help but fill in the gaps herself; and at point her own guilt starts messing with her head and whispering that if Gio already cheated once, he might do it twice, what’s to stop him; and her insecurities come up right on the coattails of that to remind her that just because Gio chose her then, it doesn’t mean everyone else did, in fact they didn’t and there must be a reason, so maybe he’s realized she’s not good enough for him either and he’s gone back to the girl everyone sided with, the one everyone loves, including Eva herself because despite everything that’s her best friend, with whom she shared almost everything, that’s the girl who knows her and who Eva knows and loves

and I love Gio for really proving he knows Eva, he likes her as a person enough to have wanted to know and to remember what she likes; then I hate him for smiling, for forcing proximity with her, and for resorting to old tactics and kissing her to calm her down and convince her of his version. Shutting a person up by kissing her is borderline harassment, even if they’d normally consent. If it’s a girl, 99% of the time it’s also a sexist act, because it proves you’re don’t even have enough consideration for the woman to let her finish talking and listen to her arguments. Gio, why do you do this to me (and Eva)? You leave me no choice but to want to punch you.

Silvia taking every single possible chance to contact Edoardo breaks my heart

Fede would be an amazing hype woman I think, she’s just so supportive of everything that makes her friends feel good about themselves, even when it’s sending nudes to a jerk

“If we don’t tell her the truth, then who?” and that’s Sana in a nutshell, except she doesn’t consider those flimsy, useless little things called feelings: girl, I get it, but saying things in a kind way goes incredible lengths

“Eva, I’ve been at this school for three years” YES! That’s what I’ve been saying: Sana and Silvia (and to an extent Federica) know these people and their hierarchy really really well, for completely opposite reasons - one out of self preservation and near-scientific interest, the other because she’s a wannabe social climber -, but they’ve had the time and ability to find out how things work here; Eva, despite being there for seven months, has been so wrapped up in her own drama she hasn’t been observant at all and she doesn’t understand how the school is “run” and that’s  a big fucking problem for her because she doesn’t form an opinion on whether or not she wants to get in with the cool kids, she just lets these girls (mainly Silvia) she’s known for such a short time drag her into it, and because she’s flailing around she makes trouble for herself. Eva doesn’t give a fuck about the Villa boys, about Incanti or Canegallo or Rodi or whoever else, she doesn’t even care about Laura as far as her popularity goes, so she literally gets into the whole Federico thing just for Silvia, with encouragement from the other girls.

my favourite part of Federico’s 18th birthday party is the presence of his relatives who are so completely out of place among all the kids dancing and will undoubtedly start dancing after a couple of glasses of spumante, the teenagers will end up dancing with them at first to make fun then give them a wide berth, until they realize after two songs they’re too old for this and go home, but still giddy af (seen it happen at all 18ht parties where there were parents/uncles/aunts etc.). In the meantime the boy//girl of the hour gets shitfaced and everyone will have to work to kind of hide how bad from the parents.

I totally get Laura tbh, if there had been a swing at any of the parties I’ve ever been to, it’d have been mine all night, I love swings

ok, what is it that makes Laura look so bad in this scene? Is it the makeup? The lighting? Both? It’s just so unappealing, her face looks so drawn, all her imperfections show so much 😕 

For a second, for a split second, when she says “Non so” she considers not doing this, but why should she do this for Eva? Payback time, bitch

oh, Canegallo. Enters the room speaking English, all dapper in his suit, then he does the whole worried thing and it’s fine, it’s fine for the most part, he sounds genuine; then he twirls her hair round his finger, has her turn her face and that’s it

and Eva wants it, because it’s comfort, reassurance, it’s a way to forget everything that’s gone to hell for a minute 

and he looks at her to make sure, to check in! So different from that last kiss with Gio we saw. It takes 50 creepiness points away from Canegallo (he still has a lot)

then Alice comes in, just in time, and Federico doesn’t even have to lie to her! It’s all there, all true, so Eva couldn’t even disagree!

Alice is really nice, comforting a girl she doesn’t know at all while a cool party is going on, but her “When you meet the right guy, you’ll know, cause you’ll feel like you can trust him.” is h e a r t b r e a k i n g

Oh Alice. Your solution for heartbreak is getting back to the party, getting drunk and having dub con sex with older guys? Girl. No wonder you like Canegallo.

it’s so significant to me that Eva basically had the same “crying alone the meeting a girl who tries to comfort you” experience Silvia had at the Easter party in ep.1 and the first thing she does when she gets out is to look for, essentially, Silvia; and of course in both occasions she’s had a confrontation with Laura earlier and she goes home alone afterwards

Silvia is really a masochist, isn’t she? She stays right there, next to a passed out Chicco Rodi, looking at Edoardo going on with his life and making out with her former friend Sara

Eva walking home alone reminds me of 9.5 La Grotta except she’s walking with some purpose despite feeling lost, while Marti was literally wandering 

she stops and hesitates when she sees Gio, cause she wasn’t expecting it at all, she isn’t ready, not now

Gio’s “T’ho detto un po’ di cazzate in sto periodo” is so reminiscent of several of Marti’s lines, especially of when he apologizes to the guys and to Emma

ok, so get Gio’s big reveal and Eva’s regret is written all over her face

I’m not even gonna talk about Gio huffing about Eva’s mention of that time he threw up on her while they were kissing. HE THREW UP ON HER WHILE THEY WERE KISSING. I just. Can’t.

and Gio brings up trust and I bet that Eva’s brain was replaying Alice’s words in her mind

“It’s you and me” 💔 (despite everything, I’m under a thousand trains for them)

Bechdel test: this episode doesn’t pass the test. The only times it comes close are when Sana arrives with the microcar and when the girls discuss Margot for a second on the windowsill, but I refuse to call either of those “conversations”.

Part 2 - Broadway’s Dance of the Vampires Commentary

Act 2

• And here we are again, after taking a week or two to recover from act 1

• I have no idea what’s going to happen but I’m gonna finish what I started, no matter what it takes

• Ok the video is ready, I don’t think I am but here we go

• Ok well the opening music was more like titanic than tanz

• Ooh ok we have lots of vague figures on stairs, probably vampires but it’s hard to tell with the 480p video quality

• Hmmm are we having a reprise of totale finsternis?

• That staircase is looking

• Glad to see the audience is cracking up again at the use of total eclipse of the heart

• Those couple guys are having a great time

• They’re like

• haHAAA

• Good for them

• Glad someone’s enjoying this

• I would be annoyed that this whole thing is seen as funny when the original scene is really cool but hey this whole thing is just one big old parody so what could I expect

• Distancing myself from it by calling it a parody is the only thing getting me through thiis

• I don’t think they’re using all the same lyrics as total eclipse so at least there’s that

• But the lyrics are too romancey and soppy ugh

• Michael your singing is actually quite nice aside from the hint of giovannui at the edges of your words

• Ew did he just say scrumptious? That word should be spoken by grannies and posh mothers alone

• I love how he’s just sat in a throne in the middle of nowhere

• Is this outside his castle? Inside? Somewhere else entirely? We may never know

• Oh sorry I stand corrected it appears I have been incorrectly naming giovanni this whole time

• His full name appears to be count giovanni coppolini travancoli von krolock (or something along those lines) of the sicilian side of the family

• Why is he italian

• Krolock does not sound remotely italian

• Once again, I must ask: why is 75% of the staging of this musical just people stood at opposite ends of the stage facing each other

• While not necessarily good at self-preservation, alfred sure is efficient

• This version of alfred is like a chihuahua with small dog sydrome yapping at a bigger dog, excpet giovanni is only slightly bigger than him and is probably a flea-infested chinese crested dog dressed in a halloween costume from wish.com

• This scene is really bringing out the offensively fake italian in giovanni

• These are nice actually

• The lower part is louder than usual, which actually works quite nicely

• The vampires aren’t as jolty and creepy though

• Ew the guitar is bad

• What was that horrible whining between notes

• Oh no, I guess giovanni has decided to bypass the threatening and has gone straight to physical assault

• There’s a prophecy? Alright then. Bit abrupt

• Dammit so they’re going straight into die unstillbare gier without sie irren professor

• Maybe it’s for the best… giovanni was never going to sound that threatening anyway

• Half an hour to go

• I can do this

• Let’s see how he massacres one of the best songs in the musical

• Also he’s starting the song at the front of the stage not the top, and it’s just weird

• When giovanni has been so comedic and dumb the whole time this song just won’t work

• …and the firsg two lines don’t rhyme… great start

• He has a cape though

• Pls I just want 1 cape swish

• Oh but the cape is pathetic

• Oh

• This song could have been good

• But the lyrics aren’t as good in places and he’s still got hints of giovanni’s stupid accent

• What a tragedy

• Well they’re giving a little more detail about his previous victims which is interesting at the very least

• The lyrics don’t have enough syllables

• And ugh they’re not very good either

• There are a few nice ones but most of them…

• I use my body just like a bandage, I use my body just like a wound

• And the prize for worst lyric yet goes to…

• And what makes it worse is that those replaced ich will frei und freier werden und werde meine ketten nicht los

• One of my favourite parts of the song

• And I just want to add that he’s barely moving too

• He doesn’t climb to the top and run down to collapse on the floor

• He just. Stands there.

• Like a badly dressed rock.

• Oh but the stage tilts now to form a straight wall

• So it’s not even like they couldn’t have the stage rise as he runs down

• They just left it raised for him to do nothing on and then got rid of it completely

• They replaced doch die with buuuuuut which does NOT work at all

• You need two syllables to separate the two notes

• This is awful

• They changed the tune a tiny bit which is fine I guess, not as satisfying though

• I just

• *sigh*

• His voice is good. With good lyrics and the original character, he could have done it really well

• I hate that potential was wasted

• Which, again, goes for the whole trainwreck of a musical

• I can’t make out all of the lyrics and I’m not sure if that’s a mild annoyance or a blessing

• Like, i have no idea what he said in the last little bit

• But hey that’s that

Skam Italia episode 8 reaction

there was a Brand New Scene in this episode and it made some people very happy

Episode 8

Clip 1 - Don’t talk to me

The setting really is gorgeous and the music added some good notes of tension.

Tbh, I think Skam Italia’s visuals are usually quite impressive but I found the camera angles here more distracting and show-offy than aiding the content of the scene. I guess they were trying to make the scene askew to represent that everything was messed up and out of order, but instead I felt detached from the characters during what was a really emotional scene. I really wanted to see all the anguish on Eva’s face and the ambiguity on Martino’s but the camera kept cutting to angles that made it hard to see.

I still think Norwegian Eva is far and away the best actress of the Evas, and I’m gonna be honest, I’m not as sucked into Italian Eva’s acting on a realism/believability level (like this scene did feel like Acting, personally); however, I do still really like her and find her sweet and easy to root for, so I did not enjoy seeing her cry.

Also Martino felt noticeably muted/detached when previously he has felt more energized and easygoing in his scenes with Eva, which I’m sure was because of this crappy situation and his own guilt.

Clip 2 -  Caught in a bad romance

Awww, poor Eva has to be in class with Gio and wait until he leaves until she can get up. That’s gotta be the worst. 

This song choice kind of fascinates because listening as an English speaker, the lyrics seem more from the POV of the person who’s been wronged over and over by their partner and has reasons to leave, when Eva is currently the one who’s done wrong and is on the opposite side of the situation, and it kinda threw me. But this is not a scene in an English-language show (though plenty of Italians understand English, to be clear) so what seems most important is the melancholy and regretful tone that serves the emotional and visual content of the scene, rather than literal adherence to the lyrics. And obviously you could say that about any soundtrack, including ones where the languages line up. Anyway, not to be trite about this rambling observation, but the various Skams have made me think a lot about the different ways film/TV can use music to enhance a scene (and sometimes how music can be used poorly though I’m not referring to this scene here).

Eleonora coming through that crowd like a beautiful striped high-waisted angel.

That was a necessary hug girls, thanks. The gossip, not so much.

Clip 3 - Eva and her mom

Small thing, but I appreciate that they showed Eva having her period and changing her pad as a casual occurrence, considering that so much media treats periods as nonexistent. I don’t know if Italian media is more frank about this than American media, but I usually only hear periods mentioned if it’s a big plot point. The dramatic first period in a coming of age story, the missed period that signals a pregnancy, etc.

But also, she has to deal with all this and she has her period? To hell with that shit.

And the graffiti was there just to ruin even the most mundane, private moment. She can’t escape.

Speaking of music in the previous scene, I liked how quiet this scene was. Sometimes I prefer the absence of music to its presence.

Well, Eva is right, she was not the initial attacker and she didn’t fight back. She shouldn’t be getting blame for it because even if the cheating was motivation, Alice chose to smack her.

Hmmm, how distant is the mom according to Italian cultural norms? She brings her daughter cake in the morning and we’ve seen her invite Eva to do things with her (I think the movies and the market? Something like that). I get there’s some distance but it’s not like Eva doesn’t have a role in this, like I’ve seen Eva scrolling through the phone at the dinner table while the parents are there. Seems like everyone in this family is doing their part to shut each other out.

I’m glad the mom tries not to let Eva shut her out although I guess it didn’t work for very long. 

Clip 4 - Eva and Eleonora, Ed Edd and Eddy

Silvia nooooooo stop thinking about Edoardo all the time even if you’re trying to make him regret the way he treated you. That’s hardly better than thirsting over him.

Lol, Eva, it’ll help if you can go somewhere where Giovanni isn’t in your direct line of sight and you can brood in peace.

Eleonora is giving it all with her singing, like she is going to get Eva to smile no matter what. When Edoardo shows up she seems rather bashful.

We saw one of Eleonora’s manipulation techniques earlier this season when she rescued Eva from the overeager theater kids. 

Plot twist: Eleonora is a spy posing as a new student, hence her knowledge of manipulation. What is her mission? Infiltrating Eva’s heart.

Clip 5 - My fault

This is one of my favorite scenes in the original show from S1, so they had a high bar to meet. I think I didn’t respond to it as strongly in large part because I don’t care for Giovanni much, and I don’t root for him and Eva together at all, so my reaction is mostly feeling bad for Eva and feeling fine about the breakup if not the way it came about. But it was another nicely shot scene.

Giovanni definitely has a hand in creating this situation. Obviously he didn’t like, push Eva’s lips to Federico’s and make that happen, that’s on her. But when he talks about the irony of her thinking he was cheating when it was her who did … he DID make her paranoid by lying to her.

“If you had told me the truth this would have never happened” - I mean, she’s right? She needs to take responsibility for her actions (which she did) but he’s got to realize he fueled the situation that caused this. (Though I mean, you could say this of all the Jonases, not just these two.)

Giovanni’s whisper acting was getting on my nerves, I know he was supposed to be upset, but it came across as unsettling, which was likely not the intent at all.

“The problem is not that you kissed some guy …. the problem is who you kissed.” Ummmm well, it’s nice that Giovanni acknowledges that these guys are assholes who treat women like crap. That’s good.  I’m calling bullshit on the whole “I don’t care that you kissed a guy out of anger, I care that you kissed an asshole” thing. Lol, if Eva kissed Martino because she was mad at Gio, I’m sure Gio would have a problem with it.

But I don’t know what to think about this dialogue change. What does it mean for Eva’s character arc? Jonas pointed out an issue with Eva’s personality that, agree or disagree with him, was an issue with her. He didn’t understand her because he thought she was changing her personality and not thinking for herself, and yes, some of that is Jonas’ perception of her, but we did see her be insecure and rely other’s opinions, and her ultimate conclusion in the season was to find out who she was on her own. It’s also a devastating thing for him to say to her because it’s so personal. What Gio is saying seems more like his problem. She’s doing stuff he doesn’t like, going to parties for people he doesn’t like, he’s got insecurities about it. And he doesn’t know who she is anymore, but ... going to the parties of asshole dudes is not inherently a character flaw for her? She’s mostly doing it for her new friends, anyway, and you might say that’s the flaw, being a people-pleaser, but I don’t know if that’s the intent.  Not to mention that Gio himself has been an asshole, and some of the people he hangs out with are assholes, so ... shut up, Gio.

There’s some questioning of who she is toward the end of this scene but it feels like it’s being framed by which guy she wants to be with. I can think of a few ways they could redirect this arc - Eva saying fuck off Gio, don’t judge me for what I’m doing? Eva realizing she doesn’t like all these parties with the asshole Villa dudes? It just feels a lot less personal. I guess it’ll be easier to judge when the whole season is out, to see what point they’re ultimately going to make with her.

It also doesn’t help that we haven’t gotten the reveal scene of Eva’s past with Laura, which was in Skam prior to this scene, so we’re missing a crucial part of her characterization that explained why Jonas felt this way about Eva not having her own opinions.

Clip 6 - Edoardo (!) gives Eva (!!) a ride to school (!!!)

A totally new scene? With two characters who never interacted in the original? What madness?

Sooo let’s break this down.

this was a helpful act of random kindness from Edoardo

also nice that he made polite small talk with Eva about her test

then he drops the line about how he really saved her by offering her a ride and that’s either him responding generally or him making sure she knows that he’s doing her a massive favor and she probably owes him

which becomes evident when he asks for her friend’s name and number

which she realizes and asks whether he’ll kick her out of the car if she doesn’t give him Eleonora’s number

he doesn’t reply as if this is an absurd suggestion and he would never do that, but he also puts down his phone and doesn’t kick her out of the car

because he says he’ll find Eleonora on IG anyway

he gets her to school on time and she thanks him

I was not nearly as excited for this scene as like Eleonora/Edoardo shippers, but it was at least a change of pace, and I appreciate getting new material no matter what. Personally when I saw what this scene was going to be, I was way way way more intrigued by the prospect of seeing the William character interact one on one with anyone besides the Noora character, than the shipper material. Did we ever see him have a conversation with anyone from the girl squad except for when he’s telling Vilde she’s not worth it? Someone from the boy squad? Not even Penetrator Chris, for the most part. Oh, I guess there was the time he broke up the P-Chris/Jonas fight but he didn’t exactly talk to them except telling P-Chris he done fucked up. Every other time I can think of, it’s William in the company of Noora. And this is pretty vital because, while Edoardo is still an asshole, if you want to redeem the asshole, it’s necessary to show him being a non-asshole and doing nice stuff for people that he doesn’t want to fuck. Even if it’s still about who he wants to fuck.

So of course the question is, would he have bothered to pick up Eva if she did not have an attractive friend he wanted to pursue? They could have added little bit more non-Eleonora related small talk just to make him seem less manipulative, but I guess that was the point. He still needs to be shady at this stage. 

He and Eleonora will bond over studying the same manipulation techniques. 

I’m not going to say he’s a great guy based on this scene, because yeah, he had an ulterior motive in mind, but at least they gave me something to work with toward seeing how he interacts with other characters rather than other characters just telling me he’s a great guy, so another small point toward Skam Italia.

Ok let's see... its been about 3 weeks since i posted last, give or take a few days. And I'll just say its been an interesting and exhausting few weeks.

Still trying to completely get over my dumbf*ck feelings for Alex. I'm not really doing a super great job at that, and still get random depressive moments that last a varying amount of time, but usually i just push my pity party to the side after about 2 minutes.

On the 3rd of June, Alex went up to see part of her family and join them on a cruise to Columbia. She said wont be back until maybe the 3rd or 4th of July at the earliest. I kinda miss her, but I feel like spending a month physically apart from her will do me some good. Her and i still snap back and fourth to save our streak and to day good morning. Whenever she cant find wifi, she turns on her dad's personal hotspot so she can send me at least one snap to keep our streak rolling (we are the longest streak we have with anyone on our snapchats, and it stands currently at 261 days.) The day after she left the streak sorta died for the day, but she was able to save it cause she was in a different time zone.

Since she's been gone, we've hired several new people at work, many if which being new hosts (thank God tbh, cause this means after theyre all done training and get a couple weeks to get used to everything i can train as a server and hopefully make a little more money). One of them is Giovanni's sister (Gio is a guy that works there. Mostly does dish, sometimes hosts.) And apparently she likes me? About a week before she started they came in to eat with their mom and after they left Gio was like "Dude, i think my sister likes you."

Hey, some random girl actually has a crush on me for the first time in my life? That's cool! Right? It would be, if she weren't 17. If i were still 18 or 19, i wouldnt really care. But now that im 20, even though we only have a 2 year and almost 6 month age difference, i still feel like its weird. I feel like im in a whole new age threshold now that ive hit that 2 decade mark, and she just seems to me like a kid. Anyway, Sammy (thats her) is bi with a preference for girls. She's very forward about asking the girls at work about their sexuality (she'll be mid convo and just be like "wait; you straight?") She makes a hobby of flirting with the straight girls, because as she says it, she can easily flirt with straight girls bc she knows she wont have a chance. As soon as she knows theyre bi or gay, she cant even really talk to them. Sammy flirts with me in excess, has asked me 3 times if im straight, or if im sure that i am (homegirl has only been here like two weeks), and the reason why is because she would happily let me break her heart, and has said thats its too bad im not gay bc if i was she would let me crush her. Also has told me that i remind her of her ex girlfriend, and when i said idk if thats supposed to be a compliment or not, she said "well i really liked her, so..." Oh and btw all 3 times shes asked, I've told her im straight (yknow, bc im not out to the irl general public) and I'll just say that having to lie outloud about my sexuality does not feel that great. Thats not something ive ever had to verbally do before, and now i understand. Tbh i dont really lie, or at least i very rarely do, bc i dont like it, and i want to be seen as trustworthy. i have told my share of lies in my day, but i feel like that was in the top 3 worst lies ive ever told. Simply because i know thats not who i am, yet im saying it anyway.

Besides that, in these last couple weeks ive:

Gotten my computer hacked and almost got scamed out of the piddly $120 dollars total that is in my bank account for me to try to live off of until next Fridays paycheck, and almost got my brother's bank account hacked (looong f*ckin story. Short version, im a gotdang fool, and people are absolute bastards), so now i cant use my computer until i get it looked at, which means no art (sucks bc i wanted to draw myself a bi pride icon)

Put in 103 hours at work in the last 2 weeks

Had our only available car break down twice

Got about half of our kitchen painted. Still need to find time to finish it

Purchased tickets for a convention, and bought almost everything i need to finish my cosplay.

Have a sore in the back of my mouth thats been plaguing me for over a week (finally starting to heal. Its been hurting to do so much as talk, much less eat or drink)

Had to deal with everyone's attitudes at work (some sh*ts going on with the moon and everyones been a pissy ass lately, and im so over it)

The pain in the ass girl at work that we've been trying to get rid of for over a year called in and quit 15 minutes before her literal last shift (Father's day) and our proprietary manager told her "its bullshit that you just found out that your other job scheduled you to work today 15 minutes before you had to come here" and "dont try to come back to this store again". Im ecstatic about it tbqh and feel a small sense of victory about the whole thing.

One of my favorite gays from work had his last shift Saturday night and im still sad about it.

It may not seem like much but its just all around every other day something else small happened to add to the weird and crazy smorgasbord that is my life.

Also bless Sammy bc yesterday was Father's Day, and because of that, i was in the building of my work at 9:45am, started working to get set up at 10, opened around 10:50, and didnt stop until about 8:50pm, 10 minutes before we closed. Our proprietary manager bought us tons of pizza and snacks in the middle of our shift so that we could all take turns having a 10 minute breather, but other than that it was non-stop work and dedication to the customer. At 9:50am my brother went to the Duncan Donuts down the road from us to get the handful of morning people either coffee or bagels or whatever they asked for. I told my brother to get me the english muffin with egg and cheese, and if they had the option, to add sausage to it. Also to tell Sammy i said hi (because she works at that Duncan also, and was there yesterday morning). My brother comes back with breakfast, hands me my food and said that Sammy made it especially for me. (At that time i was also in a bad mood bc i was tired from working four open doubles in a row, and was stressed, so that really lifted my spirits a bit. The food, and the thought that someone made it especially for me.) And i'll just say she just earned my love for the next week at least.

Anyway i think thats all for now loves. I dont have a very eventful life, but i sure do have a busy one.
