I haven’t really been filming my climbing lately, but here’s a Moonboard climb! I tried this climb almost exactly a year earlier and got stuck at the second to last move. I remember the move to 14 feeling so limit to me and it was hard to hold onto the hold. This time, I sent in 2 goes! The beta to match then cross up to 17 just went so naturally.
Progress can be so subtle sometimes, but I’m glad to have the Moonboard so I can revisit climbs throughout the years.
I have Monday (yesterday) and Tuesday off work this week to compensate for working pretty much all the public holidays this year so far, which meant I could spend the "regular" part of the weekend just recovering a bit and getting some life admin done and relaxing, without feeling sad about not getting to do anything fun - much needed. And then yesterday I went climbing with Ila and had another really good day! I feel so good climbing at the moment, both in the gym and on rock. Two years ago I had a summer of getting really strong and feeling amazing in the gym but almost never got to get out on rock that year, and before that I last felt like this in Sheffield when I first started climbing, so this is pretty amazing. I'm slowly working my way back into leading on rock - I always lead in the gym but with how little actual rock climbing I've done since moving here I had gotten so scared and developed a mental block about it. But it looks like 2023 is the year of getting back into climbing fully and I couldn't be happier about it 😍 plus getting time with my lovely friend, in a beautiful place getting to see somewhere new (we tried out a new crag in an area that's pretty much unknown to me) - everything together made for a pretty special day 💙
Get ready for some absolute climbing spam - I’ve been to the new centre in Reading and it’s great!
One thing I often get from bouldering is the ‘fun’ holds and routes are often reserved for the more advanced climbs? But I found that actually, a lot of fun challenges were included on some of the lower grades! Thanks to the climbing hangar reading!
My main goal for this year is to strengthen my wrists so that they can’t be used as an excuse anymore. I’m tired of letting that injury dictate what I can and can’t do or try out of fear of injuring it again.
I’ve been doing wrist strengthening exercises along with lifting weights once a week, and I feel like it’s been helping already.
I’m still climbing with a wrist widget, but I hope to not need it soon. Here’s a fun climb that got me quite pumped at the end so I had to throw for the lip and hope for the best. Sound on to hear my friend’s nervous sounds as I struggle to finish the climb lol
🌌 lie in and reading in bed - I got a physical copy of this book because I had the other two of the series from years ago and wanted the full set, and as much as I love my tolino (ebook that isn't linked to amazon haha), reading a physical book is just so good??
🌌 Ben brought back a biiig bag of our favourite loose leaf tea when he went home to the UK last month so I've been making that whenever I want a special cup of tea!
Not pictured but we went climbing and I had the best sesh I've had in a while, had so much fun
🌌 painting on my graphic tablet while watching the climbing world cup - I've never been into watching sports, even when I was super deeply into running I never watched any events, but I LOVE watching climbing haha
🌌 cooking a nice dinner with a fancy drink - still going through the little collection of ciders and beers we brought back from the UK after christmas so it always feels a little extra special!
