Totk spoilers ahead!!
I beat the game yesterday (and then got a really bad migraine right after) and it got me thinking about monsters and how the blood moon works. Ive been thinking about it for a while now (thanks to hino) but like.. what happens AFTER ganondorf is gone? Do monsters still exist? Does the blood moon still happen?
In one of the dragons tears memories, it shows the gerudo summoning a bunch of moldugas. This is before the whole demon king stuff ganondorf does, so obviously monsters did exist already. Moldugas, like all other monsters, get revived by the blood moon. But it doesnt seem like monsters ever got revived until ganondorf causes the blood moon and it shows all the monsters coming out of nowhere just poofing into existence, possibly being monsters that have been slain before then.
In botw, one of the memories has link and zelda surrounded by the corpses of many monsters that link defeated, and zelda mentions that monsters have been getting more aggressive, making her worry that something bad will happen soon. But when you defeat a monster, they poof away. The blood moon revives them, but if they just stay dead there, does that mean they dont get revived?
Which makes me wonder about the stal monsters. How are there skeletons of monsters if monsters dont die like that? I guess its because sometimes they do. Sometimes they die like any other animal. Maybe these skeletons are just remnants of those monsters that died a normal death.
Hino says that the blood moon has been happening since the calamity 100 years ago, meaning the blood moon stopped happening since the previous calamity 10,000 years ago. That would give a good time period for monsters to not be able to get revived and instead just die normally (as for how they reproduce.. umm idk. Also, can they die of old age?), but it makes me wonder.. did the blood moon continue to happen after you defeat calamity ganon? Were there any blood moons before the upheaval?
And then, in totk, are there any more blood moons after you defeat ganondorf? Do monsters stay existing or do they just all disappear? I dont think theyd all disappear, because again, those moldugas in the dragon tears memory imply that monsters very much did exist outside of ganondorfs influence. And there were a LOT of moldugas, but now theres only, what, 4 at a time? Idk if theres more in totk but there was only 4 in botw.
And then the individual monsters themselves. Theyre mostly social creatures, they hunt, they make tools, they work together, they build shelter, they collect and protect things they consider to be valuable, bokoblins even tame horses and use wagons. Down in the depths, they mine for zonaite (what do they even do with the zonaite?). They have their own nutritional needs, with bokoblins eating fruit and meat, moblins eating mostly meat, lizalfos eat fish and bugs, etc. You can see bokoblins chatting with each other, wearing the lizalfos mask makes lizalfos attempt to speak to you (not that you can understand them), monsters are also territorial and are not unwilling to fight each other. Theyre not just blindly following whatever purpose ganondorf made them for, they do their own thing, even if that thing happens to be attacking people on sight (except hino, for whatever reason). Lynels are extremely territorial and patrol their small designated areas, and are also described to be very intelligent, and sometimes they wont attack you even if they do spot you, as long as you keep your distance and leave their range as soon as possible. But with ganondorf trying to destroy the kingdom and all, youd think monsters would be a lot more aggressive than they already are, opting to attack villages much more often. But instead they seem to stay put, for the most part (lurelin village is in outlier here), so it seems like monsters have their own awareness. I think the monsters have this sort of awareness that the blood moon will revive them, given how they dont really seem to be too concerned about other monsters getting killed around them, or they at least get over it pretty quickly.
Other than that, i think ganondorf has way too much faith in the monsters (that monster hoard fight before ganondorf was.. a bit underwhelming, to say the least) and maybe he just thinks bokoblins are cute or something (they kinda are!)
Are monsters less evil now that ganondorf is gone? Can you go fishing with a lizalfos?

Alright, so I just might actually write tomorrow cause Tears of the Kingdom is driving me batty with these piss poor weapons everywhere. I don't feel like rocking up to a boss again with a rock glued to a long stick for 7 damage when in BoTW I'd hoard swords with 20s and 30s at every opportunity 😭
Tumblr media
And the hands oh God the hands 😨
But this weekend is gonna be a tad busy as I'm turning 27 on Monday! So we... Might be doing something Saturday or Monday? Not sure yet. Roomie wants to get cake again and idk how to gently beg for normal ass cake. Last time she insisted on getting fancy cake despite my protests and I could barely finish a small slice. It wasn't bad, something along the lines of black forest cake with cherries and dark chocolate??? Idk, the taste was too rich and overwhelming it's the tism.
She also wants to go to an arcade and dinner with a mutual friend and her bf but fuck I just wanna disappear into my room and not emerge for a solid two days at least, not a single word to anyone. Maybe sleep at least half of that. I've already gone out to eat once with her, my bro, and his friend this month can I please die in introverted peace
If I had a damn computer that could handle it, I'd set up a stream and game but mine struggles with Power wash Simulator on big maps so the streaming experience is... Difficult to put it lightly. Unfortunately cause somehow those crazy bastards got SpongeBob DLC?!? ALONG WITH LAURA CROFT MANOR AND FINAL FANTASY?!?!?
But! I've got I think 3 inbox messages to handle, a pending request, and my already promised 2 yan romance AUs that I hope to do soon!
Tumblr media
Thank you everyone who's been around, come around, and just generally vibed with me! One Piece has unexpectedly given me many new friends that have genuinely made my life brighter despite my *gestures to all of me* uuuuhhhhhhh....
Low-key bitchyness and socially awkward ways?
Never really been a people person (and a little too neurospicy for small town USA to be socialized anyway), let's put it that way. I relate too hard with Ace in a lot of ways and that's probably not a good thing lmao
ANYWAY! Enough of the feels! I gotta go to bed, I just wanted to catch y'all up on stuff for anyone eagerly awaiting a response to their message or promised content!

“Someone aside from Game Freak should make Pokémon. Scarlet and Violet are just too buggy”
So I’ve seen criticism like that before, and I think it kind of misses the point of why these games came out in the state that they did. Because when comments like that are made, they always seem to be in bad faith. They in large seem to argue that the developers were lazy or didn’t know how to do their jobs. And while that is certainly possible, I highly doubt that. If only because people passed all of the slow down and occasionally wonky looks, I think Scarlett and Violet are legitimately very fun games. I honestly think this is more of a matter of a lack of polish. If the game could have been in development for another year, then I don’t think people who be complaining nearly as much (they would of course be complaining because Pokémon fans are never happy [which is a much longer conversation and I plan to eat dinner at some point today]). But I think that hits on what I see as the major problem. Time.
Game Freak has said before that Gen IX started development right after Sword and Shield came out in 2019. So a three year development time. Not an impossible development time and Game Freak have always been very good at scope management. But that’s far less manageable if you look at it more holistically. I wasn’t able to find like an average development time for Open World Games, but looking at the two other big open world games the Switch has to offer, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, does give us some kind of idea. BotW had a 6 year development period. Xenoblade had a smaller one in 4 years. Both games had longer to cook the Scarlet and Violet did. Even the other Open World Pokemon game that came out this year, Pokémon Legends Arceus, had 4 years of development time. And I think that’s speaks to the other time problem.
BotW And Xenoblade had the benefit of only having the one game to work on. Development for Gen IX started after Sword and Shield came out in 2019. And what came out after that game? The DLC Packs and Legends Arcus. So not only does this game have a larger scope, but it also had to be developed in a company that was working on other games during the COVID Pandemic. You can tell just how stressful and exhausting all of that is just by the nature that the Gen IV remakes I didn’t mention earlier in games Game Freak were making. That’s because it was developed by another company. The first mainline Pokémon game made by another company because they were already working on two other games at the time. 1 of which would have to be released with less time devoted to it.
Now, I suggested earlier that they should have delayed the game by a year to keep working on it, but I don’t think that would have been possible. And that’s because of the Pokémon Company which manages the multimedia aspect of the series. If Gen IX is delayed then it’s not just a game that’s delayed. It’s a card game. A manga. An anime. A number of toys, and tie in products. If the developers looked at all they still had left to do at the start of 2022 and said ‘we can’t do this by November’ then I doubt they would have been able to convince the people in charge to delay it. And bringing in new people to basically work overtime on these sort of stuff in hazardous in a lot of ways save for moments where it’s slow enough to actually train new people. And given the pandemic and multiple overlapping development cycles going on, I imagine most new people wouldn’t be able to really pitch in.
I think to solution here isn’t to give Pokémon to a new developer or to double the size of the company. It’s to let the developers at game freak have the time to actually make a game. Because the system and conditions they currently have seem untenable. After all, the cracks are already beginning to show.

Well I got botw today and I am still absolutely ecstatic from when I got it
the only problem is that my parents took it from me to give it to me as a birthday gift because they don’t know what to get me
(they also did this with a cute jacket I got today but that’s irrelevant)
and a tonne of botw stuff has come up on my feed and it feels like torture that I just can’t *grabs game and puts it in the slot*
But anyways Sidon
my dad has wanted to play botw since it came out so he’ll probably get the dlc so I get to see baby Sidon
unrelated again but when I was writing that last paragraph I had my music on full blast and I felt something and I started shaking and now my wrist hurts because I shook it too much
I went from depressed to absolutely livid again in the span of a second because of the ghostbusters theme on full blast and I think that’s an accurate representation of me 90% of the time
I have not once seen any ghostbusters films I wasn’t allowed to
I wonder if I’m gore obsessed now because I wasn’t allowed anything with even a tiny bit of violence when I was little
the child also now thinks they have autism for some reason
the child is in denial though because they were classmates with a severely autistic kid for 7 years and they don’t think they have autism because they don’t have the same symptoms
they and the autistic kid were put together in almost every class project because we both had no friends
They literally became Toilet-Bound Hanako Kun of the toilets on the last 2 years of primary/elementary because no one spoke to them so they just hid in the bathrooms
They can remember one of the new students walking in and then literally introducing themselves as the person who just stays in the bathroom all break and lunch
they also were just given a slice of chocolate brownie by their mum and almost threw up by the thought of eating it they have that much of a problem with eating
(it has been there for 5 minutes now at the time of writing and has not been touched once, they still feel sick)
they still think they’re a poser and are not symptomatic
ok new update a song the child liked came on and they were happy again after feeling like they were going to throw up and can now eat
is this duality of man
i had to throw away coffee that I got in Starbucks 2 days ago because I put it in my fridge and forgot about it
lmao this was originally just a post about botw and how pissed I am abt not being able to play it
thank you for coming to my ted talk

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Calamity Ganon is Part Fungus
A nonsense theory I've thought about a lot.
Before you continue, if you don't wanna be spoiled on BotW for any reason or are generally wigged out by mushrooms, spores, and fungi, you may wanna skip this whole thread. I will also not be touching on Age of Calamity here as I don't know the status of its canonicity to the main two BotW games.
Calamity Ganon is a mixture of two components
Ganon, the eternally reincarnating evil
Calamity, an evil fungus fueled by malice
The bosses are referred to as Blights. A blight is a plant killing infection usually but not exclusively caused by a fungus; molds, mildews, that kinda stuff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could be thinking of the wrong organism entirely as I'm sure as hell not a mycologist but the faceplates of the blights kinda remind me of lichens, foliose lichens in particular. Blights don't have much to draw from for designs, so it makes sense to look at a variety of stuff within that grouping. But before we move on I want to specify something: lichens are not a single organism. They are a composite organism, a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship between a fungus and an algae or cyanobacteria.
Since they're able to control the divine beasts it seems possible that they're based somewhat on cordyceps. Fungal infections in animals aren't usually called blights but they are possible. White Nose Syndrome in bats comes to mind. You can learn about more of them here: https://academic.oup.com/mmy/article/56/suppl_1/S165/4925968
Cordyceps usually affects arthropods, so I guess it's fitting that Calamity Ganon himself looks very insectoid. Where Dark Beast Ganon fits into this I can only do my best to guess till BotW2. You can learn about Ophiocordyceps unilateralis in particular here: https://api.nationalgeographic.com/distribution/public/amp/animals/article/cordyceps-zombie-fungus-takes-over-ants
Tumblr media
These bodies aren't all fungus most likely. It's very possible the blights are infected Sheikah mechanisms meant to help the Champions use their Beasts. That or they're twisted amalgamations made of some the Beasts' parts. Tough to say, but also implies the insect body may have been something else originally too.
I'm not sure what else I want to say about them as this time, but pools of Malice found around Hyrule and inside the divine beasts may in fact be unrefined masses of Calamity, the world's evilest mildew.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Until you bring out Dark Beast Ganon, Ganon never really has a body of his own. Or at the very least he's relying on the power of the Calamity very heavily. Up until you beat Calamity Ganon, Ganon is relying *heavily* on the Calamity's power to infect things. All Link really does is force him to get made enough to shed that and go full force with his own power. Of course given the first BotW2 trailer we know that's not his physical body, or at least not *all* of it.
What I'm trying to say is that much like a lichen, Calamity Ganon is a symbiotic fusion of Ganon the eternally reincarnated avatar of Demise, and Calamity the malicious magical MAYBE sentient fungus. Whether or not Calamity is related to Demise or where it came from is another story. For our purposes right now I just want to convince you that it exists.
I know that this all might seem like a huge reach but allow me to provide you with more potential hints of this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blood moons. By our definition, a blood moon is a nickname for the moon during a complete and total lunar eclipse. Just like solar eclipses, lunar eclipses have heaps of folklore surrounding them and those stories are often very similar. They're usually seen as omens of dark things to come.
Most websites mention Chinese folklore about a dragon eating the sun and moon as a cause for eclipses, and the people making noise to make it go away, but then provide no more context after that. But better info is available on a myth from the Philippines that's very similar: the legend of Bakunawa the moon eating dragon. He is only repelled when the noise-making of the people alerts another god who drives him back and prevents him from eating the last of seven moons. It felt all too similar to how you see Calamity Ganon most of the game; as a dark misty serpent encircling the castle. He's even given part of the spotlight during the blood moon cutscene, roaring next to the moon as the sky is engulfed in a bloody red.
Though there was something better I could find relating to China about blood moons, from a collection of poetry called the Book of Odes. Two consecutive poems here mention both solar and lunar eclipses, lamenting what ills they may bring including death and famine. From the below translation they are listed as "Evil Portents, Evil Days" and "Further Lamentation, by and Underling in Court"
https://oll.libertyfund.org/title/confucius-the-shi-king-the-old-poetry-classic-of-the-chinese#preview
I realize that was a bit of a tangent, but I wanted to stress why blood moons in breath of the wild are so ominous, especially in a game that takes so much from legends and folklore around the world. But now onto reasoning this theory in conjunction with a game mechanic: the respawning of slain enemies during a blood moon. It's a practical necessity. You don't want to run out of enemies to fight.
My idea is that this event, in the game's universe, is either caused by or coincides with Calamity releasing it's spores to reproduce. The enemies are either being zombified by these spores in an endless cycle or being outright created. the Bokoblins, Moblins and Hinoxes are especially suspect as they have Ganon's porcine features (when he's in his more monstrous form shown in most games). The Moblins are the oldest of these and are Ganon's main infantry. The strength of the magic in these spores is strong, making them rise as flesh and bone. Their bones rise as the stal family of monsters. (The lizalfos also have a stal variant, but they're not as pig-like as the rest so I'm unsure of their role in that).
Because the enemies don't have the host that is Ganon and can only act as lesser copies they cannot grow to his or the primary Calamity's level of power. Ganon is extremely powerful on his own and this is the first time he's truly brought about apocalyptic levels of destruction, but without Ganon it's possible that the Calamity may not actually be that powerful at all.
I would like to circle back around here and go back to the way Calamity Ganon controls the Shiekah technology. I have yet to work out if that tech has any biological components. They certainly don't drop any. Most notable drops from Guardian enemies are the Ancient Core component used in crafting, whose flavor text refers to them as a crystal. It would point to them being inorganic in nature but with things like amber, pearls, and petrified wood and bones around it's hard to say. Regardless of that, there's obviously fantasy world magic logic at play and maybe that logic says mushrooms can infect robots
Tumblr media
The game's story makes special importance of an ancient prophecy, a prophecy the Shiekah developed the technology to combat. It worked...the first time. But not the second. Why? Because the second time Ganon was prepared. Which suggests either:
Ganon did not have Calamity the first time he began his fated assault
Ganon had Calamity and was still learning how to use it's power
Ganon had ages to mull over this newfound power and develop it further. The Link we control in game was dealt a bad hand, coming into his destiny in a Hyrule that simply did not and probably could not foresee that factor.
BotW1 was only the beginning. Link and Zelda saved the day but they did not destroy the true source and so when they find Ganon's tomb, the evil has had time to recuperate and awaken once more. The real question is, are we going to be fighting and undead Calamity-fueled zombie Ganon, or a Calamity who's desperately clinging to Ganon's dessicated corpse and going full cordyceps to tap into his power?
We'll have to wait and see. This is all I have for now. I hope you enjoyed this chaotic breakdown I've mulled over for ages. Please take care.

ao3 link
fandom: botw pairing: zelda/link rating: g notes: established relationship, post-canon, (pensive) holidays
Zelda stares at him. “What are you, a poet?”
“No,” Link leans against the table like a portrait of god splattered against an average household surface. “I’m Link.”
Hope runs a sharp course in a village like this.
He tries to eat the icing before they’ve started decorating the cookies like a dog jumping into a pile of leaves before there are leaves to jump into.
“It looked sweet,” he explains when Zelda asks him what in the name of Hylia he’s doing. He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand, leaving a blue streak the size of a scar on his face. Zelda frowns.
“Sorry.” He looks up at her from under his lashes, blinking innocently.
She contemplates pouring the entire bowl of icing on his head, then decides that it’s too much effort and returns to her berries. “It’s not my hand that’s dirty.”
The clock on the wall says it’s fifteen minutes past four. There’s a poisonous spider attached to the ceiling lamp. The berries she purchased from a passing merchant (one of the donkey variety, not the horse; the donkey merchants offer better prices and funnier jokes) are not the freshest, which says less about the merchant and more about the distance between Hebra and Hateno, but they’re sweet. Sour-ish, tangy, with bite. Zelda is very big on the culinary arts. Restoration is a holistic effort, after all.
Link seems to have finished having a long and very serious conversation with himself in his head. He emerges from his wintry stupor with a stupid look on his face while she continues to grind the berries into a pulp.
“But my hands are your hands?” he says, honest as the day he was born. The second time.
“What are you, a poet?”
He takes offense at this. “No,” Link leans against the table like a portrait of god splattered against an average household surface. “I’m Link.”
Zelda stops grinding the berries for long enough to realize she has outdone herself. The berries are not a pulp. They are not a paste. They are not the perfect texture for combining with three times the amount of white icing so that one can make a perfect batch of cookies dripping in blood-red sugar. They are a liquid.
She licks the mortar thoughtfully. Link makes an expression at the oven that suggests he wants to climb inside of it and see what it does. Zelda walks him into the table until he’s leaning back over the bowls and the berries and she’s staring at the underside of his chin.
“Yes,” she confirms, more for herself than the vaguely human-shaped disaster trapped in front of her. “You’re Link.”
::
Christmas in Hyrule is not a celebration of anything in particular. It probably was, at the beginning, but in the years since their ancestors’ civilizations rose and fell and rose and fell and then gave up on the rising and decided to stay in the earth until they sprouted into new trees with new names, the meaning has been lost. This seems like a fair thing to give up in exchange for the festivities themselves, which are silly and full of minor contrivances like turkeys filled with smaller turkeys and children running in blood-red clothing to the highest point in their village.
Christmas in Hyrule is not a celebration of anything in particular, but when Link wanders over to the table with a kitchen knife in one hand and asks her what she’s going to do to all these cookies, Zelda feels abruptly and inexplicably like it should be. It’ll be the harvest season again soon, but that’s not for a few months. No one’s birthday happens to be on the twenty-fifth, though her father’s is close. She stares at the table and tries to come up with a prophecy on the fly, something that will impress the boy with the sky stuck under his eyelids, but draws a blank.
“I’m going to eat them,” she says stupidly, feeling stupid, feeling suddenly like she might cry.
He puts down the knife and picks up a rolling pin. She loves him more than all the horses in the world combined.
“Sounds good. Can I help?”
::
Here’s what Link remembers. First of all, he remembers waking up in a blue box as the blue slowly drained out of the box and the ceiling wilted into view. He remembers meeting her dead father and thinking he was a hoot and stealing all of his shit regardless of whether it was useful shit or not-useful shit. He remembers having his own death narrated to him, atop the ruins of a temple that someone erected to time, while the land whose name he had forgotten reached towards the heavens (him) (he was heaven, at least for a while).
“Wasn’t that traumatizing?” Zelda asked him when he described it to her the first time.
Link thought about this. As he did so his hands in her hair stilled, her braids still half-done, his fingers clasped loosely around a few strands of gold. “It was,” he finally said. “But so was everything else.”
Second of all, he remembers the events of the calamity in thirteen fucked-up pieces. Twelve of these were given to him by Zelda, who had gone out of her way to document their demise in the hopes that one day someone might take notice and pull the shivering ghost out of the water. The last one was a gift from Impa, who had gone out of her way to make sure that he would be suitably guilted into wanting to save the world, and therefore, at the end of the times and in spite of all of his personal wants and needs, do so.
“That one was traumatizing.” She didn’t have to ask this time. He had figured out by this point that she cared very much about his mental health despite him not knowing the first thing about self care (he had a tendency to launch himself from high places, which was perfectly fine until he realized he had left the paraglider at home) and was going to unpack all the dirty dishes in his head even if he was fairly content with letting them pile up.
This made her sad. Both Link’s response and the fact that his survival mechanism for the first three months had been to pretend he was not, in fact, sleeping in a burning building.
“I’m sorry,” she said, touching the side of his face. He turned into the palm of her hand, his eyes closed.
Conversely, here’s what Link doesn’t remember. He doesn’t remember the first time he swam in the lake near Hateno (not the one with the frogs, the one with long reeds growing at the bottom that tickle your feet when you swim past), though he swears it must have happened. He doesn’t remember what his worst childhood fear is (his list of things to be constantly terrified of was overwritten when he woke up in the blue box; they’re still working on overwriting that new list now). He doesn’t remember how Hyrule celebrates Christmas, how they stuff the turkeys full of smaller turkeys and the children go diving from high places, and he doesn’t remember that they do all this for no reason other than that their ancestors did it, and their ancestors’ ancestors did it, and that their ancestors’ ancestors worshiped a legend, not a god.
“I’d like to deliver a batch to Kakariko,” Zelda sighs, looking out the window at the long shadow of the sun on the fields.
Link shuts off the water in the sink. “And I’d like to kiss you,” he says simply. “Is gift-giving part of tradition too?”
Zelda blinks at him. “Yes, but, how do you know that?”
He shrugs. “Magic.” He gestures at the poisonous spider in the ceiling who they’ve named Bartholomew. “A mistake.” She walks over to the kitchen sink and wipes her dirty hands on his shirt and then pulls him closer, smelling the cinnamon in his hair. “A miracle.”
::
They hold the annual Christmas dinner under Uma’s tree, between the bridge above the stream cutting perpendicularly through the village and the house that used to stand occupied, but now houses a respectable flower arrangement and several candles. It’s an intensely traditional affair, with the turkey emerging from the butcher’s at eight o’clock sharp to enormous fanfare and the children running up the hill a little after that to harass Purah and ask her for spare machine parts that they can use to build water guns. There’s dancing, because Hyrule has not and likely never will shake off the habit of celebrating anything it is given the chance to celebrate (mourning is a habit they will not let themselves sink into), but it’s slow and syrupy, the apple cider warm, the lights shimmering.
Zelda talks to everyone she can talk to. She never got the chance to do so a hundred years ago between the empty cycles of prayer and the long-standing never-quite-resolved feud she had with her father, and now the war is over and the Hateno of a hundred years ago is gone. It’s a name on a long list of regrets she can do nothing about, except this.
“I love your hair,” she says.
“Thanks.” Nebb sucks audaciously on a leg. “I hate it.”
Pruce, who runs the general store, is sitting in the grass with his guitar the way he was the last time Zelda distracted a trio of musicians and disrupted the flow of the universe. He’s playing a song which he says, when asked, was passed down to him from his great-great-grandparents, who in turn received it from their parents, who lived before the calamity. The notes are soft and melancholy, but it’s the kind of song you can dance to if you try hard enough. The residents of Hateno have been trying all their lives. Through the aftermath of the calamity, when the boy fell but the fort stayed standing and soldiers came limping up through the hills to ask for water; through the winter years, when the harvests were bad and they had to bury happiness in an unmarked grave; through an era of hope, when the boy woke up on the plateau, and wandered back to them with a sword in his hand and a legend on his tongue. The residents of Hateno know resilience like most people know to wash their face when they wake up. Give us this day our daily bread. Give us strength, and water, and miracles. Give us what it takes to keep going.
Merry Christmas, says Sophie from the clothing boutique, and Zelda is trying very hard to remember who is who and mostly succeeding but she wants to ask Sophie if she celebrates Christmas for a reason. Has she had a slice of turkey yet, does she like turkey? Has she ever been in love? The questions prick her skin like needles. Her grip on the stem of her wine glass tightens.
She says Merry Christmas back. The average Hylian does not live long enough to see a hundred. It is a blessing, then, that someone was willing to wait that long for her.
“I haven’t seen, uh, Link around,” Sophie continues, her hands knotted behind her back. “Is he okay?”
“Oh no, I mean, yes, I mean probably—”
Which is when it dawns on Zelda like a horse emerging from the brown earth that most of her anxieties have a name: his.
::
She checks the roof of the house in Hateno first because it seems like the obvious answer. When it turns out the obvious answer is wrong she checks the pond in the backyard, and then the pond slightly further away, outside of the village but close enough to be a scenic spot for sad people who need a place to go on Sundays. After walking around in circles for a while it occurs to her that she hasn’t looked inside the house, only around and above it, as if Link were a bird that can only be found in high, fast, free places. Strange. That doesn’t seem right.
She finds him on the second floor, with his knees drawn up to his chest and his face hidden. He might appear to be sleeping if not for the fact that his shoulders are too close to his ears and the interior of the house is shining. Someone went on a cleaning spree. Someone had something they wanted to hide.
Zelda feels her stomach turn sharply.
“Link.”
He looks up.
“Is it over already?” He turns to peer out the window above his head. “That was fast.” He looks back towards her, arranging his limbs so he looks less tense, so the tension bleeds into the floor and stays there. “I thought it’d take longer.”
“Link.”
Link blinks at her in the warm syrupy darkness like a stray cat in a town full of ghosts, tail upright, poised to run. Good, Zelda thinks. Be on edge. Think about things. She sets the wine glass she hadn’t realized she had brought with her on the bedside table. She sits down in front of him.
“You didn’t want to be there, did you?”
Silence unfurls between them. There’s not much space for it to move around. He’s close enough that she can track the precise trajectory guilt takes across his face. It starts in his eyes and slides down his cheeks and ends in the way he brings his hands together and begins to fiddle absently with his gauntlets. He bites his lip.
“I wanted you to be happy.”
Zelda groans and hides her face in her hands and then curls up on the floor and dies. Just kidding! She doesn’t do any of these things. She’s too busy staring at heaven’s imprint on his face.
There are a lot of things Link remembers. He has told her about a large number of them, in part because she always asks and in part because he seems to have a lot more to say now that everyone who placed the sky on his shoulders is dead. He remembers the important things, like how to swing a sword and how to defeat evil. He remembers the awful things, like dying.
Link’s head is a balloon with an infinite number of hallways. The inside is reliable and steady and whatever lives in there stays in there, but the exterior is frightening in the way that watching a child heave a snowman over the edge of a cliff is. What happens when the inside of the balloon and the outside of the balloon meet? What strange chemical reactions; what magic?
There are a lot of things Link remembers. To the detriment of Zelda and the world that she represents, he remembers how to die for people. Since the calamity ended he has had less cause to do this, which is a good thing, which is the only reason she can sleep at night, but the habit is a ghost on his left shoulder. He turns down things people give him in exchange for a higher purpose.
She sighs.
“Look.”
You wake up in a room full of strange blue light. Someone is speaking to you for the first time in your life. In that singular emerging moment in this new world, they have defined beauty for you.
She reaches for his hands. “You see, right, Link.”
You wake up and there is a voice in your head. She calls you Link. That must be your name. You must be real.
He doesn’t want her to touch him, not in this moment, not with Christmas hanging over their heads like a big bad moon which is going to crash into the earth, killing everyone instantly. He’s on edge and he doesn’t know why. He’s walked back into the burning building and he doesn’t know why. Maybe solitude contains fewer reminders of happiness. Maybe he’ll never get used to waking up beside the sun.
You wake up and you are afraid of everything. You wake up and you are everything. You wake up and everything is yours to save, or abandon, or leave to ruin.
Zelda holds his hands with gently herculean force. She leans into him, her eyes shining with bitterness and frustration and anger. “You can’t just decide what’ll make me happy, Link.” Glitter, stars, the voices of angels in his ears. “Your hands are my hands. Get it?”
He clears his throat. “That doesn’t seem like a very healthy relationship.”
Zelda doesn’t flinch. “I waited a hundred years for you to come back from the dead.”
“That’s true.”
When do they get to the part where the war is over and it starts to feel like it? When does the transition end and the aftermath become its own story, separate from the hundred-year-corpse of conflict, from the misery it birthed in its absence? She’s said all that there is to say. The rest has to be done, has to be acted out with blood and bone, rebuilt like the castle they rode away from on that second first day of her life as Hyrule stepped shakily off of the cold balcony of twilight. Zelda doesn’t know what it’s like to cry anymore, but she can tell you a thousand stories about sadness. She’s lived in it for so much of her life. For so much of the time since, she’s kept it pinned up on the kitchen wall.
“You’re a mess,” she says miserably. “Merry Christmas. There is no Christ. We made him up a long time ago to feel better about ourselves.”
He laughs.
“I figured.”
Figured what? Figured I couldn’t make up a prophecy about Santa? Figured the kids were all joking about the cliff? Figured I wanted you to like this country despite everything it’s taken from you, despite everything it made you give up?
Zelda exhales.
“Can I kiss you?”
“Have I ever said no?”
She frames his face with her hands. Idiot sandwich. Idiot boy. Idiot miracle. “Have you ever said yes?”
“Yes?” He looks confused for a moment and she has never wanted happiness for him more. “I think so?” He frowns nicely and she considers carving his heart out and hanging it on the wall. “Yes.”
She kisses him. Merry Christmas. Dress up in red and climb a cliff near the house you grew up in. Take a boy home and build him an altar. Go to a party and leave early and spend the rest of the night talking about how you’ll never get over the body in the attic, and then point at it and laugh. There will always be a body in the attic. There will always be wisdom, courage, and grief. But the first time he sees a pile of leaves and jumps headfirst into it with his eyes squeezed shut and his knees tucked to his chest, you will forget for a moment that you watched the world end from a tower in the sky, you will forget that hurt is the least dignified part of history, and you will think, instead, of the weightlessness of angels.

pt2. In pt 7 of my og theory i said that if there was to be a yiga spy arc in this stroyline, that there would have to be a spy who is close to Siv, or else the spy wouldn't get featured. I stick to that. But i do not stick to anything in part 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, &14. You might see where im going with this. but let me reiterate what i do stick to. 1. Siv doesnt necesarily want to feature Larc a whole bunch because he thinks hes too pretentious and gets enough attention as is pt 3->
Long post! Sorry
pt 3: 2. someone is probably going to die (whether on the picrew list or not) and the writer has alluded to siv not being safe as the main character (but with siv eating the quill it seems less likely that the story can go on without him) 3. Larc let Sooga escape and Sooga only got a scar. this all leads to one large conclusion. Link Arcadius Hartell. (deja vu am i right ha ha)pt 4 ->
4: why would Larc do it though? Why would he go against the yiga if he’s working with them? Well maybe he hadn’t been informed his brother was being taken hostage, or disagreed with it, and decided to break through the yiga to fix their mistake of taking siv. Why would he not want his rat bastard of a brother as a hostage? Maybe it’s brotherly love, or...
pt. 5: Some would argue that Larc is a great warrior and thats why he was that quick at getting to Siv... but then how did Sooga escape with only a scar? It was one on one between Sooga and Larc, while it was larc and a few other warriors against a possible great amount of Yiga soldiers as well as the great Master Kohga. And he was mentioned in the distress letter Kohga sent to Sooga so we know Larc didn't just bolt from the battle, he was a pivitol part of it. pt. 6->
pt. 6: so in conclusion Larc must have been an amazing warrior to get to the hostages that fast. But how did Sooga get away with only a scar? Wouldn't Larc have cut him down or arrest him quickly? Heres some food for thought: What if Larc had the element of suprise on his hands when he defeated the Yiga in the first battle. Now your going to say, "theory anon, no shit" But think about the suprise this way. hey knew he was coming, but they expected Larc to not fight against them.
Pt7: The surprise that Larc had on his side was that he fought against them. Think about it. If Larc was a spy, wouldn’t it be weird for him to fight against yiga at the military camp? Well By then, Larc would have heard about everything that Siv was writing and know that he was a hostage. So what if Larc didn’t want this to happen, and disagreed with Siv being taken? Then he’d have a reason to fight the yiga, and that would give him the surprise he needed to over power them and go for siv
pt. 8:..or it could have been an ulterior motive. the gist so far: Larc is a spy, he got through with the first battle between the Yiga and the other dudes at the military camp because he surprised the yiga, whom he was spying for, by fighting back because he didnt like the plan of kidnapping the orator, his brother. The fact that he let Sooga go with only a scar plays into this because he might not want to kill a member of his own clan. Now to play this into today's events, pt. 9 ->
pt 9: to tie this into todys events, larc sent a letter home to his husband and daughter (not his child soldier btw-just gonna say) that he will be away for longer than usual, why? because the festival got messy? didnt siv already say they just throw a lyonel at the blood and then be done? Siv didnt update on anything too in need of Larc to stay behind and clean up. when he was talking to Siv he was /very/ conspicuous with just saying "incident" feels like a cover ehh?
Pt. 10(and maybe final) the “incident” feels more like a cover for him doing yiga-ish stuff. And he’s probably hiding it from his husband and daughter as well. Now just a blip that maybe he’s linked link into this by trying to push link into being a soldier because he wants another yiga in the fam but who knows. Might also be why he didn’t mention Link at all in his letters home.
Pt11(final) Larc is also using Siv as the orator. I’m not sure how yet but it’s suspisios that Siv was given this job partially by Larc and get in the way of the yiga and a whole bunch of other stuff right away. I stick by the fact that alarm might die because legit no one is safe and isn’t treason punishable by death?in conclusion our rat bastard isn’t the only one who’s done bad things. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
These are all the ones I got from you, tumblr must have ate the others, RIP. Please feel free to resend! Especially since some of the latest posts debunk some details in here.
Siv eating the quill is important yes! But i should note there are other quills, like said in the original rat comic. but they’re not as special as the “true quill of the ancient roost,” as Sooga said, as these others don’t have the same powers. These lesser quills can only duplicate written stuff onto another, already designated destination, they can do the whole message back and forth thing. This is what merchants and stable owners use to instantly be up to date with stuff in botw. all i’m saying is, this blog potentially has other ways to manage, without siv.
The events of the arc, eye yi yiga, took place over the span of 5-7 hours, depending on where you define when the yiga thing “starts”
Sooga can teleport. Ideally he would have wanted to teleport with a hostage but he didn’t have enough tailsmens on him. Sorry I didn’t mention that in the original update arc. I’m not saying that debunks your theory though, but it is a detail of clarification
Arcadius was under the impression that his entire family, Launo, Link, and Aryll, were home.
Now just a blip that maybe he’s [Larc] linked link into this by trying to push link into being a soldier...Might also be why he didn’t mention Link at all in his letters home.
I will not confirm or deny anything here, but just....remember this. I am cackling and laughing so much. Days from now...for however long.......when things are revealed. I want you to remember this sentiment, so that you can laugh with me.

the annotated Tome of the Wild
Part 6: Into the Wild!
- I have no regrets about torturing you all with that dream at the beginning. Not just because it was a bit cruel, but because it’s a nod to the series tradition of Link starting his adventure by oversleeping.
- Anjean is a character from Spirit Tracks. A game in which you use a train to explore New Hyrule. Which I put into the chapter that has a speeding train play a pivotal role in Link’s accidental fall into the river, without realizing it till after the chapter was up. THIS WAS HILARIOUS TO REALIZE.
- A pale yellow half-moon and a canopy of stars presided over it all THERE’S THAT MOON AGAIN
- Teba! I like that guy. In BOTW it’s established that he looks up to Revali a lot, and is trying to master his Gale; this is understandable, given that Revali was a legendary hero of the Rito, who fell tragically in battle a hundred years ago. But when he gets to meet him during AOC, he’s... less than impressed with Revali’s behavior towards Link. He still admires his skills, of course, but that hero worship has been tarnished a little by the actual personality of the Rito Champion. It’s like that old saying about how you shouldn’t meet your heroes. So for this, I wondered: what would he think of him if that “hero of legend” factor were removed and Revali was just an exceptional student who also happened to be a major jerk? And thus you get his veiled references to behavior he won’t tolerate regardless of a person’s skill level.
- Aryll put one hand on her hip and thrust her other arm into the air. “Experiment time! OH YEAH!” She giggled. “He says that every time we get to do science stuff.” Another reference to Robbie being Aryll’s teacher.
- And we have our first onscreen appearance of Riju and Medli! I’d mentioned them in passing in one of the letters in things I didn’t send, but now they’re here. I chose them to be Link and Mipha’s friends for a couple reasons. One is simply that I really like both of them; another is that they’re close in age to those two, so it was easy to make them all the same age without it being weird. Medli is one of my favorite characters in the series, and I really liked Riju a lot, especially after being able to fight as her in AOC, so I have a lot of fun bouncing them off Link and Mipha.
- “Yes, we do see.” Riju sounded like she could barely contain her glee. “Thank you, Aryll. You've just helped us solve a very irritating mystery.” And thus is Aryll inspired to play at being “Detective Aryll”, thanks to Riju’s thanking her for this. She and Medli have been just as confused as Mipha about Link’s disappearing act, and very angry, particularly on Mipha’s behalf, as they’ve seen firsthand just how hurt she is by his behavior. But now, seeing that he made a mixtape for her? That changes everything. As soon as they see it, they finally understand: he’s been acting this way not because he suddenly dislikes Mipha, but because he’s got romantic feelings for her and is unable to talk to her about them. And as I established in Mipha’s second letter in things i didn’t send, they’re also aware of her love for Link, and so they really want to get the two talking to each other so this can be sorted out at last.
- “Don't they have to be somewhere wet?” Link glanced back at where the school was getting smaller and smaller as they kept walking. “I know they need a lot of water.” Yeah, like the river you’re about to fall into very soon.
- “You're right! I almost forgot! It talked about that in a show Mom was watching last week about people who catch frogs for making medicine and stuff. Did you know some people actually like to eat them, and think they're a delicacy?” A reference to how you put them in elixirs in BOTW, as well as the Akkala Buns that Midna loves. Link’s disgust here is a callback both to that and to his refusal to eat a frog in that memory in BOTW with Zelda trying to get him to eat one for science.
- Could this night go any more downhill? It can, actually. Literally, in your case, Link. Another bit that was completely accidental and I found myself laughing about later when I realized during the editing process.
- Look. Riju and Medli absolutely want their friends to get together, and they’re more sympathetic to Link now that they know what’s behind his recent actions. But they haven’t completely forgiven him yet, and so they kinda got their revenge by fucking with him a bit when he came back for the tape. Which they did genuinely put in Mipha’s pocket as a way to try to help the two start talking to each other and confess their real feelings.
- “Just think of us as mail carriers!” Medli piped up. Also this is a reference to how the Rito delivered mail in Wind Waker.
- Link's heart skipped a beat as he saw who was standing next to it, her sweater stuffed into the elephant's head-shaped basket as she put her helmet on and climbed onto the seat. Mipha’s bike is Vah Ruta.
- Bazz and Gaddison are, of course, two Zora who were friends with Link in the Domain when he was a kid there, who along with Rivan all formed the Big Bad Bazz Brigade. So naturally, they’re his fencing team teammates.
- “Oh yeah, that fucking guy.” Gaddison rolled her eyes. “Mr. 'I'm the best at everything and don't you forget it, you chumps can't hope to keep up with me, wah wah how asinine'.” She flapped her hands in a mockery of wings, and Link had to struggle not to choke on his water. Two things here. First, I really enjoyed writing Gaddison mocking Revali and using his ‘asinine’ catchphrase. Second, Link seems to keep choking on water, doesn’t he? First when Midna reveals her favorite meal, and now again. Hmmm...
- She laughed too, but something about it sounded strangely off. There was a long pause, as if she was weighing what to say next, and then she took a deep breath. As I established in the final letter in things i didn’t send, Mipha is well aware that Link was at her practice, and is trying to find some way of asking him about it, figuring that the walk to the graveyard will be a good opportunity. She’s also been trying to hide how hurt she’s been at Link’s behavior, so that’s why her laugh sounds off: she’s startled by him acting like himself for that brief moment, but doesn’t want to let it show, so Link is unaware for now of just how deep her pain goes. He’ll find out soon enough, though. And of course, Mipha is also unaware of the tape that’s so, so close, something she later feels a lot of horror and pain over.
- “... Oh. I see.” He looked up in time to see Mipha turn her head away, an unreadable expression on her face. “I understand, of course...” This is the moment when she all but gives up on him, which shatters her heart. It’s perhaps the most agonizing missed opportunity in the whole chapter, as the tape is right there and she doesn’t know, and Link fucks up by pulling away again. He does reach for her, which might have changed things if Revali hadn’t picked that exact moment to walk in and interrupt. If not for that, Link would’ve touched her arm and started a conversation that would’ve led to a breakthrough that didn’t require a near-death experience. All these points of divergence are going to haunt them both later.
- Mipha tries to be outwardly polite, but she can’t stand Revali because of how he treats Link and never would’ve dated him. She goes to the graveyard because she wanted to try and get a reaction out of Link, even if she can’t bear to look at him for fear of what she’ll see on his face, something she feels ashamed of later, but that attempt at politeness just feeds into Link’s insecurities, unfortunately. “The love is requited, they’re just idiots”, indeed.
- To fill out the graveyard group, I chose Yunobo and Komali. As a descendant of Daruk, it stands to reason that he’d still be related to him here, and attending school with Link and the others. Plus his anxious personality makes for a perfect fit for such a scene. And Komali is another Rito from Wind Waker, who is friends with Medli, so that was another no-brainer.
- Mipha's expression was closed off and neutral as she stared down at her own hands in her lap She is trying her hardest to conceal how heartbroken and miserable she is, the poor girl.
- “Give it a rest, Revali!” Riju, sounding remarkably like her mother. I went ahead and made Urbosa Riju’s actual mom in this AU, and this is my little hint as to that.
- “Hey, what's all this ruckus, then?” bellowed a loud, croaky voice. “Buncha Poes sneaking into my graveyard? I'll show you what for!” Another reference to Poes, and though I don’t mention his name, the gravedigger is of course Dampe from OOT, MM, ALBW, and the LA remake.
- “Link, look!” She held it out as he walked over to join her. “I got a frog!” Which means you’re close to water! ... oh shit.
- Which brings us to the cliffhanger, with the reveal that Link and Aryll are drowning while the events in the Wild are happening. I was so excited for this, it’s what so much foreshadowing has been leading up to. I even stuck it in the first letter of Link’s in things i didn’t send, when he compares the effect Mipha has on him to drowning. Which is easy to mistake for yet another use of water imagery in connection with our lovely Zora princess, a recurring element in my work, but becomes more sinister when you know what befalls him here.
and that covers part six!

Oh right, you didn’t give your opinion on Diabetic!Adrien and Blind!Max. How do you think it’ll change how the others in Miss Bustier’s act and/or treat them?
Blind!Max
I'm going to preface this with that I don't know much about blindness other than the obvious and I apologize if I say something rude.
This concept could be interesting. Having Markov as a guide robot is definitely a good idea. Though I imagine that building him was difficult, as you don't want to mess with electric parts by touch because. You know. Electricity.
Max still has an interest in video games, and would like to figure out a way to let blind people play them because. That's. That's a little hard. I have read about audio-heavy games for blind people, but they're not well-known. And sure you could make an audio-based game, but you can't play botw without seeing. Honestly this could be why he decided to make Markov, as Markov can help direct him through a video game in the same way regular guide animals help direct blind people through the real world.
The Gamer and Gamer 2.0 episodes would probably be a lot different. Perhaps it can be about Max's frustration of wanting to play video games but they're not accessible to him?
As for how he's treated by the teacher and classmates, they're still friends and stuff. They do get a little over-helpful sometimes, trying to lead Max around and stuff instead of letting him do it himself. Basic well-meaning but annoying actions that blind people usually have to deal with. Over time they do get better with not doing that.
I don't know if he'd get the Horse Miraculous in this AU. I feel like Voyage is a little dependent on sight. Perhaps give him the Dog or the Pig? I give those abilities based on other senses so that might be more suited for him.
Diabetic!Adrien
There's a lot of ways to go with this. Because diabetes varies between people and there's two types and everyone has their own management methods. So I'm going to be a bit generic with this and people can add on how they want.
Adrien's meal plan is a bit more planned and his blood sugar is monitored very often(assuming he's doing manual testing and not with an insulin pump). When Adrien was younger his diet was very controlled and monitored because his parents didn't want to risk it.
Though now as Adrien's older he does have a bit more control given to him instead of the adults in his life. So he can choose what he eats and even when to snack off of his basic meal plan. As long as Adrien shows the ability to monitor his blood sugar himself and not get too many high or low drops, he has a decent amount of freedom with it.
Some of Adrien's friends do get worried that the monitored diet stuff is more of a "model starvation diet" thing and that Gabriel is lying to Adrien about being diabetic to hide that. But Adrien has had enough highs and lows to know the difference and reassures them.
One of the fun things is interacting with Marinette because damn it she wants to give him all the pastries but that will kill him.
Adrien can still eat the regular bakery products, he just has to make sure not to eat too many. (Though sometimes the pastries are so good its worth risking death!!). The Dupain-Chang bakery also has a low-sugar/sugar free section. Mari's crush on Adrien does encourage her to help expanding the selection of treats there.

Continuing Thoughts on Age of Calamity: I am about 19 hours in at this point and oh man are things going down. Just wanted to record some of my thoughts, theories, reactions, etc... before I get to the last four missions of the story because I’m just thinking about this non-stop and want to share.
Spoilers below the read more, so don’t read if you plan on playing the game. It is a lot more fun to experience in the game than reading it, so just you know, don’t read it.
THE NEW BOTW CHAMPIONS ARE HERE, THE OG CHAMPIONS ARE ALIVE!
-After the siege of the castle mission that ends with the king's death at the hands of the guardians off screen and the menu music changing to the awesome dark theme and the prompt on the screen saying that Mipha, Daruk, Revali, and Urbosa are trapped in the Divine Beasts, I legitimately cried a little bit. Like I was mostly tearing up because of the bit with Zelda and her father and Link dragging her away, but with the context of BOTW and the Divine Beasts and the Champions having been killed in battle with the Calamity Blights, I was like holy crap, they killed them, they're trapped because they died, but then I started the next chapter and decided to do Urbosa and Revali's first and then it starts and they're both still alive and then we see that Teba and Riju come through and like I lost my shit. I was like WHAT!? IS!? HAPPENING?! I thought that it was a really cool way to get more characters to play as (because this is a Warriors game so the vast array of characters to play as is a selling point) and a cool way to keep the OG Champions from being dead which is depressing. So I got Urbosa and Revali back and then realized what this meant for the other mission, that Mipha would be saved by giant grown Sidon and it was just as cute and sweet as I thought it was going to be. And then them working together on the Divine Beast and teaming up and you can see how much Sidon missed his sister and looks up to her, despite the fact that he is literally ginormous and she is a tiny little thing. It made me tear up. The other champion relationships don't really hit that hard because none of them actually met each other before, but it was pretty funny the bit with Teba and Revali when Revali is once again being an asshole to Link and Teba is just like.... WTF? This is the Rito champion, he's like kind of a di- and Urbosa is like yes, we know. Moving on. Because like damn, they really turned Revali's dick factor way up in this game. Like seriously, bird, can you like chill?
-Anyways, another thing that got me going literally insane was the bit in Hyrule field with Astor and Sooga and Kohga when Astor was like...pulling soul power or something from the Yiga soldiers and like turned it into Hollow Link and when I saw that I was like losing my mind. I don't know why it got me so hyped up, but it did and I'm very excited to battle it out with this dark Link character.
-I just finished the battle at Akkala citadel, which was a pretty cool fight, and going to go into the next battle, something about thunder, so obviously another Divine Beast lead in with Divine Beast support trying to fight off Guardians and monsters and stuff. From the placement, it appears like it'll be near Hateno, and will be involving Urbosa and Vah Nahboris. I don't really care for the Divine Beast levels. They are frustrating to control and the camera movements are annoying and the targeting system just is frustrating. The level with Vah Rudania fighting off the guardians was so annoying, just trying to target the guardians and move around and then I just kept getting stuck on the walls and stuff and the movements are so slow, and it was just like, I don't really care for this at all, thanks... I much prefer the on the ground, quick fighting. Obviously, Link is the most intuitive and easiest to use, he's the highest level, and he's the main fighting character, so he's my favorite to use. I really want to unlock the Hyrule Warriors armor set, so I'm going to have to do a ton of quests and stuff which is a lot, but it will make me keep playing the game for a while, which is good since the game cost sixty dollars. It's fun to play though, so I feel like it's worth it. -Regarding the timeline pieces, I'm really conflicted about the backstory elements that we're getting, and I realize that the moment the eggo was introduced, it set this timeline off into a completely different direction, but it brings up questions for me about the original timeline. We don't really know exactly when the Hyrule Warriors timeline starts out and how far from the Calamity attack it was in the past. I would assume that it wasn't too far in the past, most like like less than a year, maybe less than six months? It's difficult to tell because we don't get a whole lot of context. We are given the information that in this game, the Calamity attack on the castle happens at the same time as in the original timeline, on Zelda's 17th birthday, maybe a little sooner, since in the OG, she's coming down from Lanayru with Link and in this one, I think she's leaving the castle to go to Lanayru when the attack happens. But when did everything else happen? How long has Link had the Master sword and been the chosen knight? He's been following Zelda in this timeline since eggo was introduced, but he was still "just a knight" at that point, even if he was a really good and talented one. But wouldn't that mean that he activates his power in Korok forest like barely anytime before the Calamity attack? I mean I guess in the OG timeline, we can kind of get hints that Link hasn't been chosen for a super long time, since Zelda questions him about how confident he is with the Master Sword and can he hear the voice, and is a bit more antagonistic with him, so he probably hadn't been doing that for a super long time either, but it does feel like he's had it longer in the OG timeline memories compared to here when he gets the Master sword and then like two missions later Ganon is popping up at the castle. I mean, it wouldn't make sense really to drag things out a super long time, so I understand that having a bunch of extra cut scenes and missions that aren't super plot relevant would be kind of weird, especially with this Astor dude's involvement, he would want to push things along. But the Ganon attack still happens the same time as the OG timeline, so all of these things happen within the same amount of time. I don't remember in the OG timeline if we ever got any details about how Link awakened his power. I do like how they did it in this version, how it was like a parallel to how Zelda awakened her power protecting Link, which gave me all the Zelink feels, but I just want canon backstory for the OG timeline, you know? We know that this timeline isn't canon for the OG timeline because of eggo being involved, so we can only really pull character elements from this timeline rather than specific plot elements. I also wondered about Impa since she is there kind of escorting Zelda in most of the missions, but was only in BOTW as an old lady, which is fine because they likely hadn't have developed that into the story at that point, but I also think maybe since Link in AOC hasn't become the chosen knight until later, he wasn't seen as capable or trustworthy enough to be her sole escort knight and wanted to keep Impa around for additional protection or something. I don't know, doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but whatever. I'm also trying to remember... when did the Champions get their champion clothes? Does Link have the blue tunic on in all the memories? I'm pretty sure that one of the first memories is that depressing one where Zelda is like knighting Link or something in the gazebo thing in front of the castle, but I can't remember the order... It's just all so confusing and I'm sure I'm deeply overthinking everything and that they're kind of just like retconning elements, but like what does it all mean? I mean maybe... maybe... since Zelda remembers the eggo in her like baby dream memory in that one cut scene, maybe that means eggo was also sent way back in time to the beginning of her life, so this timeline is deeply changed from the beginning of her life, so while the initial difference weren't super evident, just some small things, once they got to later in the timeline and all the Master sword/Champion stuff, it really just like threw everything in the air. I don't know why it bothers me so much, I think it's just me Zelink heart wanting Link and Zelda to have more time together when it's not just crazy monster fighting sad Zelda all the time like in the AOC cutscenes. In BOTW, we get these soft little memories of Zelda and Link researching in the field and riding horses and stuff and like yes the ever present concern about Zelda's power and Ganon is there in the memories still, but it feels more intimate and slow and down to earth. I think it's also because in several of the memories, it's just them two, and in AOC, there hasn't really been any memories with just the two of them together, so it has a different feel to it. I liked in BOTW, the stories in Zelda's diary about talking to Link about his destiny and why he doesn't talk and how he feels the weight of this title and it keeps him silent and it gave Link this interesting depth and emotion that you couldn't really see without that, and then in the AOC, there are some little moments where you see Link having a scrap of emotion, tiny smiles he gives to Zelda, serious face, confused, happy to eat stuff, but most of his moments are the little grunts and blank stares that he gives. Like seriously? Zelda's father just died, she feels like it's all her fault and Link's response is a tiny smile and a "huh". Like yes, there are dynamics with them, she's a princess, he's a knight, he's protective of her and doesn't push her boundaries or whatever, but like just hug please. I loved that memory in the forest in BOTW where she just collapses into his chest and he holds her and we see this pained expression on his face and it's like yes please give me more not lobotomized Link. Like I know this sounds like complaining, because it is, and like I do understand they want Link to kind of be this blank slate, character insert type of character, but give him something please!
-I'm hoping we get some good content in these last few mission cut scenes. I'm getting down to the last few missions, only four left, and looking at the chapter titles, which is the only spoilers that I have allowed myself, I'm like, okay, what is going to happen next. And like I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that we win and the bad BOTW timeline ending is subverted and Ganon has to go night night, but like who knows, maybe they'll surprise me, but probably not. This is supposed to be a game that you keep playing after you finish the main story, so like killing off a bunch of playable characters and having it end in destruction would be probably not so smart...
-Okay, that's all my current thoughts. I'll be playing more tonight and we'll see if I finish the story tonight, or maybe I'll have to stop myself and take a breather before blasting through the remaining missions. I finished I think three missions(?) last night, and I had a break for dinner, but like I don't work tomorrow, so like, I could probably blast through the last ones, but I'd also still need to do some additional quest stuff in between for level up purposes since I just go through rupees like crazy. Oh my gosh, that reminds me... it is so dang annoying when you get one of those like quest find item marker things that lights up when you have all the items and you're like sweet I'll complete this and as you're pressing the button, out of habit, without super paying attention, you realize it's going to cost like 2,000 rupees or something and it's like... not again! I can't tell you how many times I have done this and it's so annoying. Like warn me if I have to pay rupees, I don't want to use my brain, game! Lol yes, it's my fault, I'm not really mad.
-Okay, the end. For now. TLDR: This game is fun and unexpected, but it is also not BOTW, so don't go into this expecting BOTW mechanics or gameplay. But hey, smashing through tons of enemies is also kind of satisfying too. Also, like the new enemies are wild. Elemental Moblins, Hinoxs, Lynels, Guardians(!), the use of the Elemental weapons is a cool mechanic, and it's cool having some cinematic fight moments, even if it might get repetitive after playing the game for a while, but you also can use a ton of different characters, so there's variety there, I just have yet to leave my boy because he's the easiest to blast through anything and everything, though Impa is pretty cool too, even if most of my moves with her are random button smashes since I don't really have a good grip on how her moves work. At least with Link it's pretty obvious and I've gotten better about actually having some sort of strategy with how he works, the other characters I haven't played enough to have any sort of knowledge on how they work. Also Zelda's moves are not fun to play at all, sorry, but they're just annoying and useless. Also Daruk is bad at fighting Hinoxes. Okay, now, the end.

Yet Another Zelda Roleswap (the masterpost)
Tumblr media
✨what's this AU?
Check THIS POST I DID that started it all and also the AU’s tag
✨in this au, the previous legends about the triforce are the same, aka “zeldas are princesses links are heroes and ganon/ganondorf is always the same guy and the big bad”! BUT THIS TIME DESTINY DID AN OOPSIE and ganondorf forgot all about his previous lives while link is the one who remembers them all!!! zelda just wants to travel and read cool legends and didnt expect to be part of one
✨ZELDA STUFF
-trans girl, found the name zelda in very very very old royal records
-she's like 16 or something
-seventh heir to the throne who wants to prove herself, so she goes on an adventure to save the world!!!!
-adventurous and impulsive and naive
-main weapon is bows, she also knows magic and sheikah techniques
-has six siblings who dont really pay attention to her. shes probably the youngest
-her point of view is very black and white at first
-even when she gets in the middle of link and ganon’s story she still doesn’t believe she is The Zelda of legend
-how could she she’s just a zelda, one among many, just a kid playing at being a princess
-(she IS the zelda)
-she gets a bird AND a white horse!!!!
-if she sees a weird cave she WILL go into it
-would probably eat moss if dared
✨LINK STUFF
-genderfluid, uses he/they
-hes in his early twenties
-a man zelda meets during her travels, who seems to know a lot about old legends
-he can see koroks and fairies, who can’t be seen by most people
-gets all his past lives' memories after he gets the master sword, over a period of a day or two
-maybe link does remember his past deaths along with his past lives, but past deaths are maybe more muted…. less like he experienced them and more like someone told him about it. still fucks him up tho
-i feel like he’d be pretty nice and sleepy all the time, until you mention something that has to do with his memories (aka, ganondorf, but also like “oh ive heard some hero in the legends went back to being a kid to save the world or whatever) and he’d get this super serious, focused look… something like that, little things that would make zelda go :^?
-he just really wants to kill ganondorf ya dig
-SO MANY BOSS FORMS probably one per main title (kinda like xant’s battle in TP) (strongest/hardest to fight is majora’s mask link), and final form is definitely some twisted looking fierce deity
-as for his past selves he has all of their memories and its kind of… they’re not him, he’s him, they’re just memories that he has, but when he is very very stressed its “memories become actual personalities for a sec” time. 99% of the time its just him and then ganondorf is there and its like WILL EVERYONE SHUT UP IM TRYING TO MAKE A MURDER HERE
-he’s not controlled by malice or anything because it would feel like a deus ex machina to me
-in the end he doesnt die and he gets redemption because he didnt hurt anyone he just tried to kill ganondorf a few times hes good, and also zelda is his friend and an heir to the throne he’s got immunity. poor guy just needs help processing all those lives and needs a cabin in the woods with some fairies!!!
-re: his past lives, oot link SUPER HATES ganondorf while ww link is more sympathetic. links who havent fought ganondorf are ambivalent about him
-endgame ship is either with ganondorf OR beedle. beedle is the secret ending
-will eat moss
✨GANONDORF STUFF
-he's in his twenties i promise he just has resting old man face
-zelda’s old childhood friend
-doesn’t remember anything about his past lives
-gerudo king, very serious but fairly well loved
-lets not talk about malice it either doesnt exist/this ganondorf doesnt have any/this ganondorf knows how to control it. either way its not gonna affect the story
-”what are you wearing today king” “oh, just whatever” (its not whatever he spent hours finding the day’s outfit)
-found out about his past lives while reading a very very very old book, probably read it and stayed in his room for a week and then promised himself to never ever ever turn out like that
-genuinely a good person
-would never eat moss
✨RELATIONSHIPS STUFF
-zelda and ganondorf actually knew each other as kids! Both being royalty and all. legends do talk about a hero a princess a beast or whatever but don’t use link or ganondorf’s names since it’s been so long- it takes zelda and ganondorf both finding old, old books on their own to be like “AH OOPS”!!! Ganondorf learns about his past lives much earlier than zelda, who finds out during her adventures, and she goes from seeing ganondorf as a dear friend to being like “…but what if he’s really bad though”
they’re old childhood friends, you know, the kind that were best friends before and then grew up and saw each other less often (different kingdoms and all) so they kinda grew apart, and then zelda starting her quest made them reconnect again! Ganondorf is a little older than zelda so he always saw her more as his little sister who just jumps into mud because she totally saw a sword there i promise, and zelda sees ganondorf as her cool older brother who actually pays attention to her, unlike her actual siblings
-when link and zelda meet, zelda’s like “weird dude but probably harmless” and link is like “weird girl but probably harmless” and then she’s like “oh my name is zelda” and link goes “ah just likeWAIT” and he kinda observes her to… gauge her abilities? My Zeldas Were Better kinda thing. i guess during their final battle he’s like “you’re really a zelda, after all” and its bittersweet
the second zelda figures out link is also part of those legends she goes full hero worship mode, which makes link’s fall from grace… really… hard on her. ive been admiring you and wanting to be a hero like you all this time, turns out you’re not a hero and also Not Okay
-re ganondorf and link, after everything that happened uuuh
human brain: it probably takes them both a long while to get used to each other, given that one was almost killed by the other and the other has vivid memories of having their world(s) destroyed by the one, but after a while they probably bond over their shared uuuuh memories i guess. link visits gerudo city once in a while and they catch up and become friends and
lizard brain: after 100k words they DATE
no i wont write how it happens you will NOT make me embarrass myself in front of everyone because i earnestly wrote about how link visits ganondorf every time he’s in gerudo country and at first link just passes by to give ganondorf news about how zelda is faring as queen and news about the world, and as time goes and years go by  they start talking about their lives and struggles and just taking walks across the desert together and having sand seal races and everyone in ganondorf’s court is like “so when’s that little voe coming back” and ganondorf is like “i neither know nor care that its been three months since his last visit” and everyone’s like (smirk) “okay” and when has he even started to look forward to link’s visits anyway how did this happen and then link comes back and smiles gently and shows ganondorf this cool rock he found that looks like ganondorf’s face and ganondorf is smitten
takes them both Y E A R S to realize their feelings and then date tho. slow burn or bust
✨WORLD STUFF
-takes place in a time where the games’ adventures are only known as legends where they didnt even write down ganondorf’s and link’s names
-now that im thinking about it it wouldnt happen like THOUSANDS OF YEARS after any game because then ganon and link wouldnt be that worried about their destiny??? so maybe like 100-200 years after a game??? and the ppl writing down the legends were just terrible bookkeepers who couldnt even think write down link and ganon’s name
-(smash voice) EVERYONE IS HERE!!!!!!!! tingle and agitha the bug princess and sidon and especially groose who is uuuuum zelda’s rival who is totally not in love with her
-i think in botw its implied koroks are only seen by people like link and zelda??? so id say only people with uuuuh magical power??? can see them???? so koroks are just doin their thing, playing pranks, helping people without them knowing, and, in the case of makar, playing romantic music around couples

Hi all, I made a new blog just to analyze the BotW 2 Trailer
First of all, hello! Okay, so, Breath of the Wild is getting a sequel. When? Not sure, but here’s the trailer in case you missed it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fr1Z07AV00
Everything below will be an in-depth analysis of the trailer. If you want to go in blind, check out now.
Alright, first things first. Where are we in time?
We can assume that this takes place after the first, it’s obvious. But when? something to be talked about, I’m sure. My guess is within the year after the first takes place. Zelda was persistent on getting the kingdom in order, and I don’t think she’d wait around
Alright, about the trailer now
the red stuff at the bottom here is called Malice, what Ganon was made of/oozed out in the first game:
Tumblr media
A couple of things worth noting:
- This isn’t Sheikah language. Color’s off and so is the way it’s written
- It’s hard to tell from an image, but that text is spiraling up, out of Ganon
Next up, this mural:
Tumblr media
Looks like Ganon riding a horse while wielding a trident. Nothing too big here. The look reminds me of his Twilight Princess getup
Tumblr media
The two are clearly in ruins of some sort, not sure where or why, however.
The crystals remind me of Luminous Stones. And if that is what they are, then maybe they server another purpose here? They’re the same color as that text floating around Ganon.
Also, what looks like a new mount. My friend, ( @empressofsquids ), pointed out that it looks like a Yak, which very much could be true.
From what I can see here, it looks like the two are adventuring around Hyrule, the supplies on the animal’s back being where they keep their stuff.
Nothing huge, but I just thought it was worth getting every detail I could Now, here’s where things get interesting:
Tumblr media
We get a look at all three here. Zelda’s sporting a new shorter haircut, and Link’s got a new tunic. Looks like a blend of the Hylian Tunic and the Champion’s Tunic.
The place they’re in looks like it could be a tomb of some sort? Certainly Ganon wouldn’t just be dropped in any crevice or hole they had laying around. Admittedly, this is one of my weaker points but I thought it was worth mentioning
Next up we get to look at a rat being absolutely game-ended by Malice:
Tumblr media
I noticed that the Malice here almost looks like hands reaching out, and I don’t believe the only reason for grabbing that rat is just to eat it or whatever Malice does.
Maybe corruption? The way that Malice works, it wouldn’t surprise me if it has the abilities to turn good things bad
Then, we get a look at this neat little bridge in a cavern
Tumblr media
I say little, but I mean huge.
Is it possible we’ll get the entire first game’s map with the addition of a vast underground area to explore? I don’t see it being impossible, albeit unlikely.
Nothing much worth note here other than obvious signs of age on the bridge, and the cavern being very large. Covered in luminous stones(?)
Tumblr media
Just another look at Zelda’s new hair. Love it
Now this:
Tumblr media
This is one of the most gripping parts of this trailer.
Again, not Sheikah. Almost looking divine. Soft green glow, and golden accessories with wired accents
For comparison, here’s a Sheikah monk:
Tumblr media
Golden accessories, yes, but not with the same matte finish, and the monk certainly isn’t covered in it.
The similarities being that the former’s hand is as bony as the ladder’s, and they do have similar colored accessories
Tumblr media
Now, whatever it is... it seems to be just an arm. But it’s got Ganon tight by the chest, and it seems to be sprouting Malice from where the two are touching. We can get a better look at the jewelry here, further cementing the idea that it is not similar to the Sheikah’s
About Ganon here, I don’t believe he is behind this new threat. I’ll explain more in a second, but first:
Tumblr media
I don’t know what the context for this is, but I don’t like it. I believe Link is reaching into the text, maybe? Whatever the case may be, it didn’t like it.
Tumblr media
Sending Link back while he grips his arm in pain as the text is entering? Will we get new powers for Link? Maybe without the use of the Sheikah Tablet, which I haven’t seen at all in the trailer on either of the two.
Tumblr media
Now, honestly this isn’t much. It could be Link helping Zelda climb a wall, it could be him catching her last second, whatever it is, I think that at some point the two will separate. Zelda getting some playtime, maybe? Even if only for a bit
Tumblr media
Now, this temple could be one of two things in my mind: 1. Ganon’s tomb, or where the Malice/hand are being held
2. Where Link and Zelda will first enter the underground area
It’s certainly extravagant, with the two pillars near the stairs resembling hands.
This is a closer view of the thing above the door, but I’ve no idea what to make of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this. This is interesting. You can see Link’s arm being grabbed by whatever was grabbing Ganon. Is Link comatose during this? It looks like he’s lying down, and I’m not sure of a situation where Link’d just offer his arm to this entity.
Tumblr media
Limp fingers, definitely passed out now if he wasn’t previously. Not sure what to make of it. Could this hand be responsible for corrupting Link? Will we get another Dark Link bossfight in the game?
Tumblr media
Ganon’s being grabbed by this thing. Again, I don’t think that this is Ganon’s choice to do this. Could it be that he awakened this entity and it sought to possess something more powerful than itself?
Tumblr media
Link and Zelda get seperated here, the floor beneath her caves and she’s sent down. Link remains stable. Maybe a part of the game where Zelda and Link are trying to get back to each other, leading too parts where you play as both Link and Zelda? I really want a playable Zelda, if you can’t tell...
Tumblr media
Now, it looks like Zelda is confronting Ganon here, alone. Not sure why Link isn’t here given that he was with her when they first found him.
Tumblr media
My thinking with this, is that Ganon is dead, or at least his physical being is. The orange glow on his head IS reminiscent of Sheikah tech, maybe turning blue at some point? I truly don’t think that Ganon is behind it at this point, something far greater than the three bearers of the Triforce is at play.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way the head moves is unnatural, and I don’t like it at all, not a single bit.
I think that Ganon got the short end of whatever stick he wanted, and is being used as the host for this Magic Green Hand(tm). They’ve got a much darker tone set for this game, and I hope they lean into it. The way Majora’s Mask was the successor of Ocarina of Time.
The last major part of the trailer is this:
Tumblr media
Hyrule Castle is now airborne.
Aside from the fact that there’s a castle in the sky, I also notice that Death Mountain seems to be inactive, or at the very least not spouting anything into the sky. Could what’s happened underground have affected the above world as well? Worth noting that that point of view is likely from the Great Plateau. Would it be fair to assume that it will be the same starting point for the second game?
 Now, about this language:
Tumblr media
I have a couple of ideas, but none concrete.
There are about 5 - 6 languages in the Zelda universe
To get straight to the point here, the language used here reminds me of the ancient typography used in Link to the Past and Link’s Awakening. The best example I can find of it is here:
Tumblr media
Definitely not 1 to 1, but it’s worth noting that it’s similar
Thanks for reading all the way through, I spent a lot of time writing this and I hope it was worthwhile to someone. Have a nice day! Hopefully we get some new news for the game soon enough.
Also, I get that I may have sounded rambly, wrong, or even stupid in some parts, and I am capable of mistakes. Call me out
Lastly, I would love to hear your thoughts about the trailer, reblog, share, spread it around. I love to hear ideas and opinions about the game.  Lastly, add me on Discord at Gremzie1#5023

botw / oot headcanons :  habits, quirks & personality.
sleep
oot link: enjoys sleeping in, to the point where it’s honestly a little bit ridiculous. he can sleep for 12 hours sometimes if he wants to -- and boy, does he want to. he doesn’t get enough sleep ever since becoming the hero of time, though. he tends to sleep on his side, hands tucked beneath his head and knees drawn up close to his chest.
botw link: he’s ambivalent to sleep. he feels like he’s slept long enough, being stuck in stasis for 100 years and all. he doesn’t mind sleeping though, but prefers to go as long as he can. comfy and downy beds are nice and a luxury he doesn’t often allow himself, but nothing beats falling asleep under the night sky by the campfire. he sleeps in whatever position he ends up in, often starfishing onto his bed or roll and passing out then and there.
music
oot link: he’s incredibly musically inclined --- vocally, and with instruments. playing the ocarina is a great comfort to him, with so many memories of the past and his childhood at the tip of his fingers when he plays the familiar tunes and melodies that so many friends taught him. he’s a talented singer too, and while he mostly hums when he doesn’t have his ocarina out, he joins in a song and sings when an opportunity presents itself.
botw link: he can’t carry a tune to save his life. he’s skilled at a great many things, like cooking, but singing or playing an instrument? he’s fine with leaving that to kass and his family. believe him, he’s tried to join in and learn the accordion or the flute or even the harp on one occasion  --- but it’s always ended pretty horribly. he’s only ever tried to sing as a kid, and he was always incredibly tone deaf. he doesn’t even try anymore now that he doesn’t even speak very much.
food
oot link: this guy didn’t even know what milk was until he was 10. he grew up eating nuts and mushrooms and skulltulas and whatever else could be found in the forest, and so when he first got to the market in hyrule castle he was absolutely blown away by all the different foods and drinks there. he’s got a big stomach like link in botw, but he’s not as obsessed with food as his future counterpart. he’s a bit of a picky eater too despite his humble upbringing, and doesn’t eat anything he doesn’t like. which is quite a bit, honestly. he’ll never turn down a jar of fresh milk though.
botw link: a glutton through and through and a total weakling when it comes to food. you can make link amenable to many things by offering him food --- the bigger and more savory or sweet the better. he’s got a stomach like a black hole and a stomach lining strong as iron thanks to some of the stuff he eats. cooking is a hobby and a passion of his, and he’s lost countless days scavenging through forests and mountaintops for ingredients and meat to prepare a meal that’s been on his mind.
emotional vulnerability
oot link: link is much more open with his emotions in oot than in botw. he has no trouble and no problem showing what he’s feeling plain as day on his face for all to see. smiling, laughing, joking around --- they’re all things he does frequently with his friends. he frowns and rolls his eyes a lot too whenever he’s annoyed or meet someone he doesn’t like. he’s got a bit of an attitude and isn’t really afraid to show it, and in this way he can be incredibly honest to the point of brash and rudeness. only towards those he doesn’t like or feels deserves it though. he has no problem opening up to others emotionally either, but as time passes and after defeating ganondorf, link opens up less and less, and smiles less. he becomes more serious and somber. it isn’t because he’s afraid to open up or because he’s anxious to, but he feels like there’s no point. he can’t talk about any of the things he wants to because no one will understand --- or believe him. more than once he’s been laughed at or brushed off as playing a joke whenever talking to people and telling them his story. no one knows he’s the hero of time or believes he was, and so link gave up quickly in trying to connect with anyone over it.
botw link: being emotionally vulnerable is a near impossible thing for link. he was fine with being honest as a kid and cried his fair share of times, but after finding the master sword he began to shut those emotions away. it’s a difficult task to try and open up now, and even when he wants to it’s difficult and there’s a fight or flight response that awakens in him.
playfulness / childishness
oot link: even as a kid, link wasn’t very playful. he’s always erred on the more serious, mature side of things, but that’s not to say he never acted like a kid. he’d hang out with the other kokiri kids and play around with them, but more often than not link was always dreaming -- dreaming of what was outside the forest, dreaming of getting his own fairy, dreaming of a future where he’d fit in with the kokiri and where one day he may even get to be a hero. but while he’s never been very childish, one thing link always has been and always remained, was mischievous. he always enjoyed joking around with people, and playing harmless little pranks on them --- sometimes even mean ones, towards people he wasn’t fond of or who didn’t treat him well. whether it was causing the castle guards a hard time and making them believe there was a ghost roaming the castle walls and maze, or playing a trick on guru-guru by making it storm inside of his windmill
botw link: while link is very stoic on the outside, having had years to hone his expression to one that’s carefully blank and devoid of emotion, on the inside he’s a great big child. he loves going on adventures, to the point of recklessness with his daredevil stunts and devil-may-care attitude when it comes to dangerous situations and biting off more than he can chew. he’s also incredibly playful, messing with people innocently when an opportunity rises, or playing tag with the children in hateno or kakariko village. whenever he sleeps in an inn he tends to play around and bounce on the bed like he’s a little kid still, and embarrassingly enough broke a water bed at zora’s domain once after jumping on it too hard. it’s a childish glee that he gets, seeing all that the world has to offer, and all that he’s yet to see. finding new things is delightful.
posture / gestures
oot link: he carries himself confidently, and his strides are long and assured. he has a low center of gravity, and there tends to be a lot of power and force behind his movements. when he jumps down and lands on something, he lands solidly with a loud thump, legs always shoulder width apart. he never really bothers with trying to be quiet, feeling like he doesn’t need to sneak up on an enemy to defeat them. if there’s danger ahead, he’ll meet it face on. when talking to others or listening to other people talk, he always has his hands on his hips. it’s confident but also just very assured and comfortable. he doesn’t speak much with his hands, preferring that his face say it all instead.
botw link: unlike the hero of time, link in breath of the wild is an incredibly sneaky guy. his steps, like him, are very quiet, to the point where the sound he makes is practically nonexistent. he’s snuck up on many an enemy this way, and on many a person too. more than once he’s given someone a fright, and while he feels a little guilty for it, it’s honestly a little amusing to watch. when listening to others talk, link has his hands placed on his belt, a way to keep his focus on the person in front of him and keep his hands occupied. he’s a big gesturer after all, and while his face usually remains blank even when he talks, his hands are able to add another layer of speaking for him.

Tagging Game
Rules: Answer 21 questions about yourself and tag 21 people whom you want to get to know better :)
Tagged by both @sparkly-things AND @slstarrycity <3
Nickname/Pet name: Don’t really have one. Whatever my partner has decided to refer to me as in a given span of time, I guess. Common fallbacks for that include “clumsy baby giraffe” and “monster”.
Zodiac: Aries/Snake, though I don’t subscribe to astrology of either kind.
Height: Just shy of 6’ tall (182 cm).
Last Movie: Into the Spider-Verse. Highly recommended!
Last Thing Googled: “Shai Utoh shrine treasure” >> clearly a sign I’ve been doing nothing while sick except playing Breath of the Wild. Because I was having a frustrating time reaching the final treasure chest in that shrine and wanted to know what it had in it so I wasn’t needlessly beating my head against my controller over a shitty boomerang or something. Spoiler alert, it had an ancient core in it so I continued to struggle with the challenge of figuring out how to properly launch Link into the air at the correct height to paraglide onto the ledge containing it. But I succeeded in the end! [insert triumphant emoji here]
Favorite Musician: Single musician rather than group? Probably one of the greats from the jazz era. Count Basie or Duke Ellington or Django Reinhardt or Artie Shaw, perhaps.
Song Stuck in Head: Most recently Gaston’s song, but with the lyrics changed to fit Prince Sidon from BOTW (I fell down a YouTube hole of crack, don’t judge me), some of which I couldn’t remember so I just started making up new ones as I hummed it. I’m most proud of “No one thinks like Sidon / No one winks like Sidon / No one lusts after Hylian twinks like Sidon”. (Okay, you can totally judge me and my complete lack of musical talent).
Other Blogs: Nope, I just shove everything onto this one like the heathen I am. Sorry to anyone who follows me for/knows me from a fandom that I don’t post enough about (looking at you lovelies from the DS9 community – sorry y’all, I still love seeing your content, though).
Do I Get Asks: Usually only if I do an Ask Meme. Which I should do again sometime because they’re fun.
Following: 196. Wow, how did that get so large? I should probably go through and thin that out a bit…
Dream Trip: Travelling across Asia. I’ve never been to that part of the world but would love to go some day when I have enough money. I want to see the cultural sights, the natural sights, and eat lots of delicious street food!
Amount of Sleep: I miss being young and not needing it, but these days I do best with 6-9 hours. And then another hour or two lazing around in bed, if possible XD
Lucky Number: I’m super skeptical and don’t believe in the concept of “luck” per se…. but I’ll go with 38 (the number of my favourite Pokemon, and therefore near and dear to my nostalgic heart).
What I am Wearing: A green and blue plaid cotton house dress from the late ‘60s or ‘70s, a rainbow striped sweater, and black fleece-lined tights (because it’s winter, so fashion must also be at least somewhat practical.
Dream Job: Botanic garden curator. Or mad scientist.
Fave Food: All of them? It’s difficult to pick because I love eating. It’s hard to beat freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies, though. For savoury food, maybe dumplings (though that encompasses so many different types it’s almost cheating…  but I love them all!)
Play Any Instruments: Nope, never really had the talent for that.
Languages: English. Un peu (tres petit peu) de Français.
Fave Songs: Going by how frequently I’ve listened to them over the past little while:
Make Me Feel by Janelle Monae – Probably my song of 2018, and a fabulous video to boot.
Wild West by Lissie – First heard while watching the new season of Twin Peaks, but listened to incessantly while driving over the summer. Anyone who rode in my truck probably heard it at least once.
Thin Blue Flame by Josh Ritter – A rediscovered old favourite. So fucking powerful and it builds from such a quiet, unassuming start.
House by Patrick Wolf – Inspired by Liz’s inclusion of a Patrick Wolf song! I’ve been listening to his stuff for over 10 years now (wow, how time flies!) and love everything from his dark, emo-inspired phase to the happy, upbeat, ‘80s-influenced pop numbers. Putting this song in because the music video is just, so aesthetic.
Random Fact: I’m secretly a bit of a hoarder but I’m also fairly organized—as well as good at using available space and tidying up—so it doesn’t really look like I am.
Describe yourself as aesthetic things: Vintage dresses soaking in a handwash basin, the commingling scents of a glass of scotch and a cup of tea sitting on the side table together, the way a book’s deckled edges feel against your fingers, creamy lace paired with worn leather, the flickering of a neon sign with blackened burn out marks in the corners, that indescribable feeling of standing alone in the forest after the rain, an overflowing box of costume jewellery, the dull sheen of light reflecting off snake scales ready to shed, dirt clinging to the smooth metal spokes of a bicycle wheel.
I thought that last question would be harder, honestly, but once I had one or two, the rest just started to flow. Not sure how accurate they are as descriptors, but read into them what you will. I suppose…
Tagging: As per usual, do it if you’d like to, because I enjoy reading them, but I’m not gonna bother tagging anyone specifically.

fe3h blogging 5 because I’ve been posting on discord and I can’t remember what number I was on oct-feb???
So I'm doing another no recruit run and realizing how much planning I need Me: why do I do this to myself  Specifically its SS usuing none of the black eaglea So Byleths going to be soloing until I can recruit all the church staff... or flayn comes along...
Lambert and the death knight have the same voice actor. Lambert=death knight. Mystery solved
Loog was only able to gain faerghus independence because the emoire was already weakened from its failed invasion of dagda
Also its part if the seiros canon that a great evil darkness came out of the north. That couldn't posaibly feed into racism
The greatest sin this game has commited was giving gilbert a redemption arc
if only the devs weren’t cowards...
Why does dorothea even have A supports with guys? Her head is filled with only girls. has she ever shown interest in a guy?? Beyond a I want to be financially secure and tolerate your presence. everyone else is bi/pan[ Except caspar Hes just an idiot
I'm gonna post hot takes for the sexuality of each character and yall cant stop me
Edelgard: lesbian Hubert: Edelgard Ferdinand: pansexual Linhardt: grey spec pan but prefers men+ Caspar: too stupid to evaluate Bernadetta: "I want friends" Dorothea: big lesbian Petra: pansexual
Dimitri: confused and repressed Dedue: gay Felix: swords redheads Ashe: pansexual Sylvain: pansexual prefers women Mercedes: pansexual prefers women Annete: lesbian Ingrid: pansexual prefers men
Claude: Demi pansexual/romantic++ Lorenz: ~~noble obligations~~ pansexual and repressed Raphael: grey ace/aro+++ Ignatz: pansexual prefers women Lysithea: pansexual++++ Marianne: pansexual Hilda: pansexual but usually dates guys Leonie: grey ace
+Linhardt feels romantic/sexual attraction but not strongly. He feels romantic love but he doesn't get crushes. ++Claude is the type to fall in love slowly after an emotional connection has already been formed and then get a crush after they've been going steady for 10 years. +++Raphael feels romantic/sexual attraction but not strongly and usually prefers queer platonic relationships ++++more to do with the individual than gender, but girls are cute
Game crashed and I lost like 4 hours of progress TT^TT
I'm on SS (which is the only route I haven't played) and hnnnnng I miss claude its been like 3 months since I played VW. Also I need to write down a time line some time but the stuff the agarthans have been pulling feeds the world builder in me. especially hyrm
as nice as the idea of all the lords getting along and talking things out is, it wouldn’t work out in canon, Edelgard has tunnel vision. Dimitri is irrational and would rather listen to his hallucinations that evidence. And no one trust Claude enough to believe him
Hilarious really how Edelgard will call for Hubert to carry you despite her massive strength and how hubert looks like a gentle wind will blow him over
Macuil/Indech:  Shun society. Run off into the wilds. Have vaugue legends be told of you. Be a crpytid
linhardt is such an unrepentant bastard
I had a dream where I could make male units pegasus knights. And then I woke up to cruel reality
Alois is growing on me. At first I was like uuuggg another bumbling idiot. But you know what? Fuck Seteth for not giving Alois more vacation time to see his family
Cavalry units be like: crushes a watermelon with their thighs
Some of the knights were bullying Alois. Who was it. I will bring them untold pain.
Reason #??? to punch Gilbert: he saw this poor child struggling to control his strength and went this boy doesn't need to learn how to control his strength, what he needs is more strength training.  I mean absent emotionally distant and all over shitty father to annette is reason number 1. But dimitri is reason number 2.  Oh let's make this kid lift rocks and run around the moutains at night in full armor in winter. Instead of being able to pick something up without breaking it and you know be able to perform basic daily tasks.  Let's make a human shaped weapon instead of a functional person.  Gilbert single handedly ruined AM for me because he just wouldn't stop messing up everyone else's lives
Each character's recruit requirements are what they admire/respect in a person
I forgot hubert becomes unavailable in month 2. and now I'm stuck with his stupis razor
Hot take. BotW Link and part 2 Ingrid have the same haircut
I'm on my last route (SS) but i hate rhea so much...
why do you think maurice/the beast's crest was used to make aymr?
Also all the nameless backgound characters have brown hair but of the main cast, its only dorothea and claude
Annette’s handwriting: Neat and cute.  Linhardt writes in cursive because he cant be bothered to lift his pen Sylvain has nice handwriting. Ingrid's is very functional, felix's is half way to chicken scratch lots of sharp angles. Dimitri cries on the inside at the thought of picking up a pen. as a kid Dimitri has terrible handwriting and breaks a pen every 5 min. He practiced so hard. Most of what people think is his handwriting is Dedue's (neat and pretty) because dedue writes most of his letters for him
me playing azure moon: I want out. get me off this death train
Finally getting alois's support and wow he's like a human shaped puppy in the sahpe of a middle aged man.  Always falling over himself. Ridiculously happy. 100% all the time. Running and barking everywhere
Fact of the day: dorothea hates eating fish
Alright. Seteth and Flayn's descriptions of her mom are very different.  Where is the truth???  Seteth was like shes demure, quiet, pious, and honest. And Flayn's says she's like Judith
game is forcing me to flirt with Alois? Can I not please!
I keep saying it but Lorenz grows on you like a fungus. He has excellent supports
i want to weave gold thread into claudes hair
Under rated character development: Dorothea. Every one of her lines in part 2 makes me want to cry.  "every rose has its thorns" -> "only thorns left on this rose" Her character development is that she just gets worn down by the war and I want to bundle her up in a blanket and give her a cup of warm milk.  Dorothea is so full of love. So she feels the sorrows of the war so intensely.
FE3H needs better dads. I mean even jeralt and seteth aren’t great dads. They're just not down right horrible.  Jeralt is emotionally distant with an alcohol problem that byleth had to clean up after him. But there are worse dads Alois seems decent but he needs to spend more time at home. Seteth should have given Alois more vacation time.  They aren't terrible dads. But they aren't getting medals either.  Love their kids but have flaws of their own.
ANNETTE DESERVED BETTER THAN GILBERT Burn him at the stake No wait. He’d want that
My loathing for gilbert is beyond description.  He hurts everyone around him, then doesn't listen to what they have to say, and then keeps continuing his existence as a sad sack of shit.  1. Emotionally distant, strict, and often absent father. Clearly cared about his work for than family.  2. He then straight up leaves with out a note or telling his family anything.  3 knows that annette is looking for him and avoids her.  4. Annette just wants her dad back. That's what would make her happy but he denies her that because he's a selfish bastard.  5. Then he goes on and on about his man-pain while not helping anyone. he self flagellates and blames himself a lot but he never tries to change and so he stays there, is this cycle of self pity.  "Ohhh I have sinned and can not be forgiven" .and I'm like why not do right by the people you hurt? And he's like "no no I have sinned. I cannot see them" or some other bullshit.  He also gets some bullshit redemption arc that I want to scrub clean from my memory because he doesn't deserve it.  Annette's support is all about oh i forgive you. And it puts all the emotional labor on annette and just makes me real angry. And i am going to stop thinking about that disgrace of a human now.
Seteth is controlling. Wont let flayn have friends. Boys arent qllowed to talk to her.  She can't go out. He has to know where she is 24/7. Seteth really is suffocating Flayn. Early in the game Flayn compares herself to a hot house flower, confined to a green house, doomed to die outside it. It bring up the question which is better, to live a long life in constant fear and isolation (remember flayn is very much a people person), or to live a short fulfilling life. The answer of course is that it should be flayns choice. But Seteth denies her autonomy. Flayn is not quite an adult, but even discounting the decades* that she has lived, even a teenager should have some say in the direction of their life. Time and time again Flayn expresses her will and Seteth ignores her. She is allowed little existence outside of him.  Its also hilarious how bad their cover story is.  Its true they love each other but Seteth causes Flayn a fair bit of suffering. Its played for comedy sometimes. And Flayn to some degree tolerates it because she understands that he does it for her sake, and she understands the real danger she is in. They just disagree with what is an acceptable degree of risk. Seteth tolerates no risk which at that point can't be called living. Flayn accepts the danger and believes it is worthwhile to enjoy life and help people despite it. the counselor box also reveals that seteth has been stalking her and think her talking to dudes is bad despite that having nothing to do with the danger of the agarthans.
A fun thing to think about is if Flayn was born of 2 nabeteans, she's a human halfie, or someother sothis bullshit.  I reviewed the sea nd sky paralogue recently looking for answers and there were some hints? Maybe? nothing definative. all we know for sure is that flayn’s mom died in the nemesis war.  Also I have a hypothesis that flayn was in a regenerative coma for most of the 1000 years so she's been active less than 200 years which is why Seteth treats here like a waylaid toddler.
the flayn seteth c support is great Seteth.exe crashes and then reboots right in front of our very eyes
Catherine has such big wlw energy. I didn't quite realize it until I got her supports but hooboy.  Saw a lady so pretty she forgot she almost died pfft.  And this is just with rhea.  The catherine-shamir supports themselves are gold.
Catherine: ever see a woman so beautiful you forget you almost died and decide to devote your whole life to her?
Catherine->Shamir: i get worried when you go out on missions on your own. I'm not there to protect you. I'm scared of you leaving me behind. I never want to leave you side. Between my life and your life i'd choose your life me: ! Shamir: i don't know what the future holds, but let's get married me: !!!!!!!!!!!!
Also catherine/christoph was a thing in the past. Highschool sweethearts. Before she executed him for treason
Ahahahhha this is great! And by great I mean hilarious. Dimitri dies even more offscreen in SS than in VW.  Ghost dimitri in ss made me laugh but  do we ever get an explanation for ghost dimitri or it like the cf finale? Themetically significant. Sure lets go with that
I'm really starting to see where the parts of vw and ss were smushes together
Embarr has the best night life
Recruiting sylvain into the gd feels mean. I'm taking away the only one with 2 braincells to rub together
Under all the noble bullshit, Lorenz really is a great guy
Do you think every demonic beast looks unique and its only that the devs didnt want to make more models that they dobt look different in game?
Recruiting sylvain into the gd feels mean. I'm taking away the only one with 2 braincells to rub together in the blue lions
Sylvain is warm
I wish we got to explore derdriu
PETRA DESERVES BETTER WRITERS. and give her a fluffy coat. She's gotta be cold in garreg mach
Count Varley is at the top of the hit list
Add alois onto team i'm scared of ghosts (lysithea, ashe, annette)[5:44 PM] That's it. I'm kidnapping alois from the church's clutches and taking him home. The church doesn't deserve him. And he hates his job
W h y  i s  everyone from faergus so eager to give up their personhood
Does faerghus seem really backwater to anyone else? Faergus reminds me of like 900's europe while leicester and adrestia are more like 1600's europe.  they still have that germanic warrior culture thing going. This is deep in the dark ages. I will accept the later half of the dark ages though since its post introduction of christianity. Leicester and Adrestia feel more like 1600-1700s They feel not quite french revolution, but getting there.  Yeah like the old institutions (crown and church) are still there but the cracks are showing.  Also the clothes
I thinki talked about this before. But when I say dorothea deserves the world. DOROThEA DESERVES THE WORLD. she’s been through so much
I need to go compare this with the verdant wind scene, but I was under the impression that sothis was in a regenerative coma after the war with the agarthans. But nope according to ss she was straigt up dead huh
i know I'm suppose to be fighting but I spent the last 30min exploring shambhala again
Damn it Shamir! Why'd ya have ta crit. I was trying to get dialog!January 2, 2020
gatekeeper > you < gatekeeper's identical twin brother who's on the opposite side of the war Its a sandwich
Oh wow the church really was up to some bloodborne level stuff
I turned every single one of the black eagles into a brigand (except linhardt and hubert).  Brigand gang brigand gang
The devs knew Claude and Lindhardt would just be too powerful. They had to be separated. thats why they dont have a support chain.  Sylvain and Claude has more energy but Sylvain has the conscious that Lindhardt lacks.  I mean Lindhardt singlehandedly lock picks  the holy tomb and disables rhea's magic mechs all while complaining he's sleepy.  Sylvain can be bullied into doing things and I love him for it.  Ah. I want both support chains
After Jeralts death both Claude and Edelgard both tell you that the world will continue spinning regardless of what befalls you personally but they do so in rather different ways. Edelgard phrases it like pull yourself together or the world will leave you behind. Claude phrases it like personal tragedies are such a small thing in the face of the world. You may have suffered a loss but there is so much to the world beyond that. There are still worthwhile things in the world. Both of say the world doesnt stop for you but mean different things.  And both are trying to motivate you to pull yourself together.  Whereas dimitri is like: you want vengence? You should go for vengence. I'll help you rip them apart. I'll kill for you.
Edelgard is socially awkward and blunt. She's also very practical minded so she doesn't know how to won't say something comforting when she can say something useful.  She's trying in her own way  To motivate byleth to start picking up their life.  Edelgard doesn't get people. Social interaction is a total mystery to her. She's just too stubborn to realize it.  At a couple points you can tease her and she thinks you're threatening her. She's not good at the people thing.  While she can come off a little rough because she doesn't understand how other people work. Hubert understands other people rather well and is an asshole anyways. List of characters who have threatened byleth: dimitri, hubert, sylvain, jeritza, catherine
Was sothis one of the divine dragon tribe? a lot of the other divine dragons had green hair especially the ones worshiped as gods (duma, mila, naga, tiki). But not fae or nowi.  I always got that dragon stones were like a dragon's essence sealed away so that while in human form they could stave off dragon degeneration. But what are crest stones. Were they made by the agarthans (artificial dragon stones) or are crest stones a natural part  of the nabeteans and the agarthans just harvested them. Or... ARE THERE BOTH. But the pov characters cant tell the difference.  This one group has messed with how many nations now?? SS has an interesting tidbit that's  been stuck in my head:  In the final map of SS its revealed that all high ranking church officials recieve Seiros' blood and a crest stone shard. WHERE ARE THE SHARDS COMING FROM. DAMN YOU SETETH YOU CANT JUST SAY THINGS LIKE THAT AND LEAVE ME. because if they are seiros crest stone shards that neans crest stones are not an Agarthan invention. But that condridicts VW where rhea says creststones are made of nabateab hearts. tldr: I'm confused. where are those fragments coming from??? Wait. This is all assuming a nabetean needs their heart inside them to live. Given how violently rhea reacts to losing even 1 crest stone I don't think she used the ones of her brethern. Which logically leaves only one weird possible answer. That rhea took her own heart/crest stone and has been giving out fragments. I mean she probably retrives the fragments when the priest dies.... this also means that nabeteans can survive with their heart outside their body... like a litch.... which I mean given sothis isn't too suprising? ??
VW and SS have such wacky endings. Let's go fight the cyberpunk mole people now!. Zombie invasion?  : check Weird bloodborne stuff and then we fight rhea?: check
Yeah VW was my first route and whew that was a wild ride. AM is so tame is comparison. but SS and VW lack the setup to pull out twists like that.  If this was like Nier: Automata where you get endings sequentially, it might have worked. But on their own the last 2 maps don't have anything at stake
hmmm  switching the final battles of verdant wind and silver snow? What would make a better story and why?  rhea kinda works because SS is all about rhea and saving her from herself as well as a revival of the church. But Nemesis also brings closure to Rhea's arc. She's been stuck for the last 1000 years to to fight the man who killed her most important person for good is like also really good thematically. VW is all about something new. Doing away with old structures and what better than to kill the pope? But facing the 10 elites also works for VW because that's the begining of the crest/nobility system you are literally killing.  I just like recruiting everyone and then killing the 10 elites with their own weapons wielded by their descendants.  its symbolic
Byleth is an excellent brigard. Went beigand and then wyvrn and their strength was higher than dimitri's
Claude: Rule? Nah. Gonna go be a scholar in an isolated mountain range. Books
Sylvain is a himbo wannabe
I should recruit annette and let her kill gilbert...  The one thing I'm worried about is that it'll hurt her more than it'll hurt him ... can I get crusher in crimson flower? If I were to recruit everyone and then get them all killed, what route would that be best in? Guess I'll be doing a death pact AM run some time in the future
Also koei tecmo and intsys are cowards for gender locking classes.  From a gameplay perspecrive too some characters are locked out of their ideal classes (war master for catherine and gremory for lindhardt). And then there's the in lore significance. Let hubert ride a pegasus.
Dorothea spent the entirety of their paralogue hitting on Ingrid. And then the RING at the end??? and they can’t support. Also Ingrid should have gotten an A support with Mercedes. They get along so well
Edelgard got the best designs in the game but Dorothea got the next best
Its canon. Edelgard thinks Claude grew up to be hot. Edelgard acknowledging that Claude is hot but but that she’s going to kill him anyways is just so good ....aaaaand one again I'm a coward who couldn't bring themself to kill Claude. But the completionist in me really wants to. The scene after sparing cluade between him and edelgard has kept me up too many nights.  What are the emotions here? My first guess was loss, grief. Someone else has interpreted it as aggtession though. And maybe we are both over thinking this but to me Claude's lines here say "I have failed"
Dorothea deserves a dragon
Caspar is actually real good for bernadetta. Its like talking to a sack of potatoes and doing so forces her to communicate better, firmly express herself, etc. Caspar has such great supports with all the ladies really
I really am just linhardt. I too disregard authority and despise being woken up...
I feel like we should all appreciate dorothea more. Death to the haters
ingrid equipping the duscar cavalry battalion is like  "I can exploit their labor so it’s alright"
I found felix was my solace in AM just because everyone else goes full death cult. despite how much i wanted to punch him when he told ingrid to go get a husband.  Also I should note I'm not sure felix whole heartesly believed what he said to Ingrid. I got the impression he said the thing he knew would upset her the most.  Not necessarily what he believed. That said he may actually believe it too.  Ingrid and felix remind be of squabbling siblings just saya the worst stuff to each other.  Unless felix has actively confronted the notion of faerhgus patriarchy he probably has internalized some of the beliefs. We all do. Thats why theyre so hard to dig out
Since we talk a lot about dads. Let's talk margrave edmund. tldr: complicated and interesting relationship with marianne.  What we know: he adopted marianne some time after her parents died, before she enrolles into the officers academy. Marianne says he's usuing her as marriage bait to marry up and increase the standing of house edmund.  This tracks with what others say about edmund: he's politically ambitious. And he's good at it enough to have gotten house edmund a seat at the round table.  In pretty much all her endings, he tutors mariannne until she's a political savant.  He forbid her from leaving the monestary in part 1.  Now let's go in between the lines. In part 1 marianne seems nervous of margrave edmund, but she also seems nervous of everything is part 1. In part 2, along with being more comfortable with herself she seems more familiar with him.  After the end of part 1 she likely returned to house edmund despite the attack being the perfect cover to disappear.  We don't get get much on edmund's personality buy he comes across as ruthlessly practical. The sort that goes "I can and will use everything to get what I want".  He likely adopted marianne not out of charity or compassion but so the house could have a crested heir and so he could use her as a bargining chip to other houses. But he sees enough potential in her to train her to be the next head of house. I think what started out as "ah another piece i can use" transitioned into a more friendly relationship as marianne began to assert herself and margrave edmund came to acknowledge her as more than how she could benefit him. I don't think he ever got over the "how can i use this" mentality but I'd like to think that after some years they came to get along. Ah yes I meant to do a hyrm thing and put it off for months. The Agarthans had long been infiltrating the empire and slowly increasing their influence on the government. In an attempt to stop this emperor ionius ix attempted to gain more power for himself to counter them by centralizing the government and taking power away from the nobles. House Hyrm attempted to defect to the leicester alliance with the help of house ordelia. In retaliation the Agarthans under the guise of the empire killed the members of house hrym and took control of hrym and ordelia. Also in response to ionius' move, the top ministers of the empire backed by the Agarthans began the insurrection of the seven where all political power was taken from the emperor. The Agarthans than experimented on ordelia and the royal family to implant crests while usuing hrym as a base of operations. After Emile killed that scrumbag baron bartels as well as the rest of the bartels family. Edelgard thought he could be useful as a piece not already controled by the Agarthans, and with their helped fabricated him a new identity as jeritza von hrym since hrym was a puppet for the Agarthans. Lord Arundel (Thales) then ensured jeritza a spot at garreg mach so he could act as an inside agent.
Anyone know the significance of rhea's mech's names (wilhelm, iris, etc.). past friends?  lol would it be messed up or what if its powered by his corpse
Jeritza really is an acquired taste... wow
... I wonder sometimes if I like making things hard for myself... like I'll make rules like 4+ units have to attack an enemy before I kill them... or certain units can't be next to each other or just other abitrary rules. Anyways I'm just complaining because I did all this on the final map while under leveled last night (?) and am now just going "...why" at myself
Also, I wish we got the option of keep class headgear.  Some of it looks really cool and some of the classes (bishop??) look incomplete with out it.  Let me have my little hats!  Like mortal savant gets an oni mask which looks rad. And warlocks get flowery witch hats! Just finished crimson flowers again with warlock and then gremory dorothea and was like hmmmm.... she needs flowers in her hair
Also if you look up dimitri's dancer skirt you'll see he's wearing black short shorts
Team heretic: edelgard, hubert, petra, claude, leonie, linhardt in the closet: lorenz
So for those of you that keep up with my rambling... remember how i said the funal cf cutscene makes no sense? Did sothis self terminate? If she dud than why arent there records of other crest stones disintigrating? Or is it a sothis specific thing? Its possible sothis’s consciousness is stored in her creststone/heart but then how can you still s support her in CF? i've been trying to logic and reason this for several months and i cant get it to all fit. But on a symbolic level its like the coming of a new age, sothis' hold on the world (and her influence on byleth) disappears. Live on without dieties (literally in byleth's case). The new age of humanity and all so byleth becomes a normal human, no god powers yada yada. I think claude is the only one that knows byleth has no heartbeat?? (Maybe? I cant remember) since claude reads jeralt's diary. Thematic significance > narrative consistency. There's also that rhea goes beserk in SS and not VW, when the same stuff happens to her in both. Which doesn't add up for me. And Nemesis ...is he still sitting there in the other routes... Where did he get an army anyways? I assumed the agarthans just had a whole army frozen...But then why didn't they use it earlier? And can you imagine just a whole city of cryo pods underground. Just there.
Anyways I'm off to kill all the blue luons and solo with dimitri on maddening!  Can I get gilbert killed in AM or is he too plot important. I've been playing on casual like a coward so far
Ah ashen wolves shadow cinders looks edgy. I wonder why they have 4 kids in a dungeon. Theres that npc that talk about hiw garreg mach needs the abyss to survive. I wonder why they keep this system
I dont keep up with english VAs but it'd be funny if yuri was voiced by yuri lowenthal
anyone with a crest has less of a chance of  demonic beasting than someone with no crest in lore. In gameplay you can use any crest weapon as long as you have any crest. You just wont get the added benefits of that specific crest
Yuri is very pretty and I’m weak for beautiful long haired men.  But i kinda wish the nintendo would let us have BEEF
If only i could have 300 save files...
Yuri really just is Leon with amnesia. Down to the red eyeliner...
Who let balthus into a highschool
I have that insistent desire to punch the writers for putting dorothea and mercedes through all that
Manuela. Has. So. Much. Love!  And her line about how [as teachers] we cant lose the students to violence or cowardice
The head of felix plopped onto a generic brawler body will always be funny to me
Yeah... sylvain really treats you different when male.  There was a reason were many reasons I really wanted to punch sylvain when I first started playing. namely the misogyny
male Byleth just looks really good as a swordsmaster
From a gameplay perspective I think divine pulse should have been removed for maddening.  From a story perspective they did a pretty good job integrating time mechanics as god powers
I wonder if Jeralt reminded Rhea of Wilhelm
i love giving bad advice for the advice box
why is tea time is the hardest part of the game
Seriously. How does garreg mach even work? Fail school and you get sent to the dungeons for life. What.
Sylvain would totally be one of those dudes with too much money dolling out patronages
Let hilda be warmaster
Hmmm edelgard... fatalism....
Please mod gilbert out of the game Lorenz has got a good heart. But the words that come out of his mouth sometimes...
Oh yeah you know that rainbow flash dream sequence right at the begining of the game? Is it me or did I see skyscrapers in it
The inside of byleth's head is a smash tournament
Seteth can die and I'll kill him.  (Ok ok I don't actually hate the guy. But I don't like him either. He's the type I'd tolerate working with but want nothing to do with outside of the professional setting)
Caspar and linhardt really are THAT comedy duo. I need a whole book dedicated to their paired endings
Sylvain's dick is still the funniest joke on the internet
The weirdest part of part 2 felix's hair isn't even the aggresive side sweep. That can be explained by having stiff straight hair. Its the limp pony tail. If your hair is that stiff, any ponytail that length is going to stick straight out like as anime character. I have this hair type. I've succeded in replicating the side sweep, the ponytail doesnt work
give mercedes a gun cowards
Marianne with a cute bob. Marianne with short hair. very home of phobe of intsys not to make marianne like an actual werewolf or something
devs should have let Bernie learn how to beat her dad to death with her bare fists
I've returned home to my boy. I love Claude!
Mortal savant ignatz. I mean strength in swords and budding talent in reason. Youre going to ba a magic samurai ignatz!
I had forgotten how much gd plays like a mystery game. Also, whatever I said earlier I take it back. Lysithea has a crush on Leonie
I keep trying to imagine an adrestia that isn't tropical (because why else would they wear heavy coats), and failing...
I really love raphael. He's so good
Claude's this interesting mix of cynical and idealistic yeah. He has a number of strong ideals and believes in the potential of humanity to do good, to grow and learn, to come together and built. But he also struggles because at the same time he also believes humans will usually choose the easier path of ignorance and hate. People are cruel and don't care.[5:30 AM]He's really cynical about what people are actually going to do
Sylvain's just layer upon layer of unhealthy coping mechanism
I don’t really like the ingrid/claude ship. ingrid tends to fixate on one shallow quality in a person and then ship them shit about it. and that’s the support. and the writers don’t have her ever acknowledging the rest of the character’s personality or admitting her first impression might have been incorrect.  that especially doesn't pair well with Claude who hides so much of himself. Out of all the characters Claude can A support Ingrid's the only one I where I went "whyyyyyyy"[10:02 AM]It really felt like the typical C-B support. Of i cant stand you because of 1, 2, and 3. To hey maybe you aren't so bad
i can't help but think the empire and alliance are incredibly stupid for making lorenz a cavalier. He's terrible at it.
Hold the phone. Was jeralt a soldier in the leicester independwnce war? (On thw faerhgus side).  But thats 300 years ago. All we know is that hexs older than 100.  The almyra unvasion is another option. Its also possible that jeraly wasnt involved in any war
So I'm trying to get rhea killed on the last chapter of part 1 for GD and wow its really hard to lose the fight this way. Enemies will avoid her like the plague. I cant believe I'm struggling to lose a fight Rhea is unkillable. I have taken no actions for 15 turns are she is still not dead Starting to think its impossible to lose by rhea death in this battle Turn 31. Its only raphael and hilda left Yeah as long as you have 1 unit to keep enemy infanty out of the pink squares this map is inpossible to lose on hard mode  60 turns. All of Rhea’s spell and weapon uses are gone and she still wont die. I give up
I've been thinking of hilda dimitri hypothetical supports recently and i think they"d be halfway between her lorenz+ferdinand supports and her marianne supports.[1:48 AM]Hilda is the QUEEN of suckering people and dimitri is the biggest sucker in the game[1:51 AM]But like marianne's clumsiness, dimitri can't do basic tasks well so hilda hoisting her chores on him is sure to backfire hilariously. He also has that kicked puppy pitifulness that part 1 marianne has so hilda will end up feeling  sorry watching him struggle and help out[1:52 AM]But these 2 are both deeply compassionate so they could actually get along.  You know... i can see ferdinand and claude hating each other's guts. But there's such potential for personal growth...
Why is it that the agarthans have the most named npcs out of any factionJump
If gilbert is what it means to be an "exceptional knight". Then i dont want it. I dont want knights and i especially dont want execptional knights
I like playing on hard because i never have to worry about winning a fight only about how many style points I can rack up.
Why does fodland new year start on month 3.  Look i get that the japanese adopted the chinese calendar system of new year in early spring before adopting the gregorian calendar so "new years" events ended up split between month 1 (new years celebration) and month 3/4 (start of school). But that makes no sense for fodlan. In universe it doesnxt make sense. Why not have month 1 start in spring or have the new year in winter. Ok let's be real. The real reason its like this is that due to globalization and post ww2 american influence not to mention european colonialism, the gregorian calander is the one the world runs on. So its for us players benefit that month 1 is in winter and month 6 is summer. But in universe it doesn't make sense! Not unless you start making really convoluted excusrs[4:00 AM](Sorry southern hemisphere   No representation for you today) This only works for chinese new years because its 2 different calender systems being used at the same time. Which doesn't make sense in fodlan because why would rhea allow a new calander system in given her isolationist policy. Or if its a remnant of an old calender system, there's no way it lasted 1000 years
If jeralt hadn't been killed by kronya, he would have been consumed by the hivemind in SS and you would have been forced to kill him
The devs really went out of their way to give jeritza a unique class huh. He's a dark knight+swords. You can say it. He's just a dark knight. Yet they really went and slapped death knight on him[2:49 PM]Also as a pc his crit rate in underwelming
The s suport cgs are more stylized and its a little jarring
Is it only me than. Who get ways too many support points thant hey know what to do with.
We need a cats remake but its called rats and is dimitri in every role
I want a lysithea hilda a support[5:48 PM]Hilda's the only ine lysithea likes from the start[5:48 PM]They have mutual respect for each other[5:48 PM](Also side note. Wow lysithea is mean to ignatz. Poor baby)
Reminder that its Marianne who title drops vw
Did I miss something? Felix becoming the top advisor for all of fodlan seems like a bad idea. The only thing that comes close to showing he's competant is his ingrid support where it shows he's decent at tactics. Reason number 76 for why I'm worried for fodlan post AM. Along with ... ya know .. the Agarthans still running around.
One part of vw i didn't like was when the merchants went woohoo no regulations and free trade yay!Jump
I'll be honest. 7 year old me would have swindled dimitri out of his good halloween candy
