Happy with the staff content this year but am I the only one who is disappointed with the PV we got? It's basically a slideshow of art we've already seen, major downgrade from the year 1 PV that had literally all the events. There was a drop in quality of the anniversary PVs over the years and it really shows this year. Sorry if you find this too negative I don't mean to hate I just wish Twst would do better for it's ANNIVERSARY.

[For everyone's reference, here are the anniversary PVs in order of release: 2021 / 2022 / 2023 / 2024]

Mmm, now that you mention it, I noticed this trend with the Halloween PVs 🤔 For year 1, there was a video that showed all members of the NRC casy, even those that did not receive cards at that time. There were then several short variants of the PV released for year 2/Endless Halloween Night (part 1 / part 2 / part 3 / part 4). Altogether, they feature all of the characters, including the students from year 1 but heavily shadowed and with glowing eyes to indicate ghostly possession. Even Glorious Masquerade features all of the students that get new cards for the event plus Rollo, although there are notably more still shots here. The Stage in Playful Land CM, by comparison, is significantly shorter and only shows us the three SSRs (Ace, Ortho, and Kalim) as well as the two new characters (Fellow and Gidel).

As this anon has said, the anniversary PVs have changed a lot over time too. The first one was the most animated and integrated several event outfits. The second one was also animated a fair amount, but you can tell corners were cut in some places where they transition to photographs/still images. This alone works thematically given that the player is a photographer, but you can still catch dips in quality when it comes to the art style. I remember finding Deuce running and the Kalim + Silver flying scene odd, as well as Jade and Trein's faces strange in general. Then the third PV rolls around and it only features the third years; the animation also seems to be much more sluggish (although this could be a stylistic choice; not sure). A friend actually recently pointed out to me that Lilia's pose looks like he was pulled straight from other assets; his artwork in the animation is almost the exact same as his smiling expression in the game. This year's is the most different (+ most static) and, like year 3's PV, only provides "new" content for a select few characters (the dorm leaders). They also reuse pre-existing illustrations already found in the game that don't seem to be picked for any particular reason (like, there are random Master Chef/Culinary Crucibles groovies in there). This direction, I'm guessing, is less costly and more efficient than making an entirely original animation, which is what was done in previous years. (Not that Disney or Aniplex is hurting for money to fund this, lol) Would I have preferred another PV in the style of year 1's? Yeah, for sure. I want to see other events and their outfits animated! Was what we got this year bad? Not necessarily; I think the production and editing was very technically impressive, but I'm still sad we didn't get anything substantially "new" to chew on (as someone who isn't a fan of most third years or the dorm leaders). Maybe it's just something we perceive as a deficit only because year 1 set the bar so high. It is what it is; whoever was in charge of the anniversary PV was probably doing the best they could with whatever budget they were given 😔 Let's hope that next year's will be a return to form, or that at least the money/effort is being redirected to other bigger projects (maybe the anime?).

I did get your other message about seeing that he's no longer available -- I think all the Twst nendoroids were preorder only :( -- but figured I'd answer anyway just for reference!

I ordered directly off the Aniplex+ website since they allow international credit cards; for the address I went through Blackship, which is a package-forwarding service (you have things shipped to them and they'll reship it to you). the shipping costs can get a bit expensive depending on item size/weight, but honestly that would be true no matter what, and it ends up being a lot cheaper than going through a proxy-shopper or reseller. (WhiteRabbit/JapanRabbit is the same company's proxy-shop service -- I haven't used that side of them personally, but I see good reviews for them.)

the nendoroids in particular have about a 1-2 month preorder period, and then I think they basically make them depending on how many orders they get, and finally release them about 6 months later. so getting in on the preorder window is, annoyingly, kind of the only way to guarantee getting a semi-reasonable price. (they would announce the preorders on the twst_jp twitter, which is where I saw them; not sure about anywhere else.) it is possible they might re-release them at some point, given they were sort of unexpectedly popular -- I think they weren't originally going to do them for all the characters, just the dorm leaders -- and if we are very very lucky they might even be globally available instead of Japan-only? but that might take more luck than is humanly possible. 💀 I am once again begging Twst to release international merch so I can spend too much money on tiny figures and not just shipping

Idk if you've talked about it before, but have you seen the voice lines for Crowley's card? At the end people were saying he implies HE'S the one who brought the MC to Twisted Wonderland👀

I am not sure that that is how I would interpret his line!

The original Japanese is 「貴方みたいな勤勉で優秀な生徒がいてくれて助かっています。これからも問題児を“監督”してくださいね」

The form of the verb "help" makes this difficult to put into English...literally translated it may be something close to, "It's proving helpful to have diligent, excellent students like you available. Please do continue to ‘supervise’ the troublemakers."?

A vaguer translation might be "It helps to have diligent, excellent students like you," and I can see how that could be interpreted into the implication that he arranged for students like the prefect to be on hand for assistance.

But given the form of "help," I don't think there is that much depth to read into! :> There is nothing to insinuate that he is glad he brought the prefect here, or that he was involved in their being here at all.

Of course there is a lot that is still unknown about Crowley, and the theory that he intentionally brought the prefect over to make something happen (or to keep something from happening 👀) is a popular one (and very fun to think about!).

But if I were attempting to champion that theory, I personally would not use this particular line as proof! It could, of course, be setting a foundation so that a future reveal does not blindside the players 👀 But the line by itself is vague, which is probably by design!

And there were two more Crowley lines that I found interesting!

「私の全力を知りたい？随分と怖いもの知らずですねえ……学園長として心配になってしまいます」

"You want to know my full power? You are quite audacious…as headmage, it is worrying."

Crowley is not the first character to comment on the audaciousness/fearlessness of the prefect: Malleus has a very similar line but their phrasing is different, with Crowley saying 怖いもの知らず, while Malleus says 恐れを知らない. Malleus repeats this same phrasing at least twice in the original game, though it it written in two different ways on EN.

Both Crowley and Malleus' phrasings are two ways of saying something that could be localized as the same thing in English, but subtle turns of phrase are proving to be very important in the original game.

For example, when you set Crowley to the homescreen he will say, "私をお呼びですか？"

And this is an interesting parallel to Malleus', "僕を呼んだ?"

Malleus’ phrase tends to be rewritten as various different expressions on EN such as “You called?,” “Was it you who called me?” and “Did you need something?”

But in the original game he always uses the exact same phrase, which is different from Crowley’s “私をお呼びですか？” while meaning the same thing.

While it would normally not be an issue for a localizer to take something that seems repetitive in one language and give it more flair in the other, it seems that this repetition was intentional and maybe should have been kept consistent to the original game?

Especially because English does not have things like different words for "I" like Japanese does (Crowley uses "watashi" while Malleus uses "boku") to help tell one person's phrasing apart from another's.

EN experienced a similarly unfortunate problem with Idia’s, “Leave it to your big bro,” with the phrase getting rewritten into "I'll get you trilling like a canary" and "I got this!" on EN, presumably before Aniplex USA realized that it was being repeated word-for-word for a reason.

Is it possible that the information that Aniplex USA receives in advance is limited, so they just do not know which of these phrases are safe to change and which need to be kept accurate to the original game?

With all the variations to Malleus' "You called for me?" on EN, Crowley has the potential to be localized with a phrase that is identical to at least one of Malleus' multiple English-language interpretations. In the original game, however, Malleus' phrasing is consistent, and completely different from the phrasing used by Crowley, while meaning the same thing! (and the "same but different" pattern has the potential to be very significant 👀)

Guest Room Cleaning Drop Rate

Welcome to another too-many-numbers post with Mod Jeido.

If you're interested in some of the other posts, there's this one on Gauntlet drop rates, this one on ATK UP/DMG UP differences, and this one on Curse and Evasion activation rates.

We spent the last 6 months collecting gifts and adding to a spreadsheet in order to figure out approximate drop rates. These aren't absolute, but they're probably the closest we'll get without asking ANIPLEX directly.

I'll go more in-depth under the cut, but generally, these were the drop rates we saw for each category:

Stickers: 37.8%

Honey: 27.2%

Notepads: 12.3%

Textbooks: 8.5%

Gifts: 7.4%

Shards: 4.3%

Grimoires: 2.6%

We collected both from JP and EN and combined it for the percentages above, since it should be the same rate regardless. The analysis under the cut will delve into a little more detail. Please take each number as an "approximate" value, as some may be rounded.

STICKERS

Stickers were the most common drop at 38% of ALL drops. There are five types of stickers: Stylish, Basic, Elegant, Pop (Cute), and Unique. These are the respective stickers for each theme.

We had a total of 649 stickers (198 from JP, 450 from EN).

We found that each sticker type had an equal chance of appearing (20%) given that a sticker was dropped.

Overall, any single sticker type has a 7.4% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

HONEY

Honey made up 27% of ALL drops. There are three types of honey: Phial (S), Jar (M), and Jug (L) of Blooming Honey.

We had a total of 466 honey drops (149 from JP, 317 from EN). We found the following to be the approximate drop rate of each type of Honey:

Honey S: 65% of all honey drops. Approximately 17% of all possible drops.

Honey M: 25% of all honey drops. Approximately 7% of all possible drops.

Honey L: 10% of all honey drops. Approximately 3% of all possible drops.

NOTEPADS

Notepads made up 12% of ALL drops. There are four types of Notepads: Red, Blue, Green, and White. These are for Fire, Water, Flora, and Cosmic magic, respectively.

We had a total of 211 notepads (76 from JP, 135 from EN).

We found that each notepad type had an equal chance of appearing (25%) given that a notepad was dropped.

Overall, any single notepad type has a 3% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

TEXTBOOKS

Textbooks made up 9% of ALL drops. There are four types of Textbooks: Red, Blue, Green, and White. These are for Fire, Water, Flora, and Cosmic magic, respectively.

We had a total of 145 textbooks (52 from JP, 93 from EN).

We found that each textbook type had an equal chance of appearing (25%) given that a textbook was dropped.

Overall, any single textbook type has a 2% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

GIFTS

Gifts made up 7% of ALL drops. There are 23 types of gifts, which are unique to each NRC student.

We had a total of 127 gifts (45 from JP, 81 from EN).

We found that each gift type had an equal chance of appearing (4.3%) given that a gift was dropped.

Overall, any single gift type has an 0.4% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

SHARDS

Shards made up 4% of ALL drops. There are three types of shards: Starshards, Sunshards, and Moonshards. These give refills for AP/LP, RP/GP, and BP/EP respectively.

We had a total of 73 shards (23 from JP, 50 from EN).

We found that each shard type had an equal chance of appearing (33%) given that shards were dropped.

Overall, any single shard type has an 1.5% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

GRIMOIRES

Grimoires made up 3% of ALL drops. There are four types of Grimoires: Red, Blue, Green, and White. These are for Fire, Water, Flora, and Cosmic magic, respectively.

We had a total of 44 grimoires (16 from JP, 28 from EN).

We found that each grimoire type had an equal chance of appearing (25%) given that a grimoire was dropped.

Overall, any single grimoire type has an 0.7% chance of appearing based on all possible drops.

sorry to bug you, but I saw the tags saying Tsukihime Remake was deconfirmed for PC, and I can't find anyone/anything else to confirm that. where'd you hear this?

Latest Aniplex trailer for Tsukihime Remake's English version only lists Playstation and Switch again despite the original announcement listing PC too, so either Aniplex simply forgot to mention PC for their newest trailer or they've changed their minds entirely about a PC release, (which would not be surprising to me given Steam's history with VNs lol)

For the Malleus thing: it's overexposure on my answer. Malleus is a main staple character that has a lot of fans compared to say: Cater or Kalim. Of course, Octavinelle matches in turn for numbers with Malleus but Malleus also has a dedicated shipping fandom that are so attached to him that they cause... problems.

Shipping is fine in moderation but when I see enough people start fighting that this fictional character is "their" man and not someone else's OC, I know Malleus has had too much time in their head or something warped him. I like shopping and run a sort famous /Reader blog for all genders, and that gives me insight into who people kinda want on that side and Malleus is very famous. Shipping aside, Malleus also has such diehard fans that... they forget his CHARACTER!

Malleus' fandom is the same as Octavinelle (woobifying/creeps flooding in) and now bleeding in Savanaclaw (creeps flooding in/racism against dark skinned OC's): the story is revealing that Malleus isn't gap moe and is an actual character that can do wrong, and hurt people... and they HATE that. I've seen four people drop Malleus like a hat because he was didn't understand what he was doing wrong in the Dorm Uniform. Malleus has had a rigid set of understanding of creatures and it's very straightforward instead of nuanced, and even Malleus admits that he wants to try and projects that his advancement on human understanding will only take 100 years. That's fair considering he's been in the human world for 3 FREAKING YEARS, guys. I believe if we were given how long it took Lilia to understand a human customs outside of Silver experience, it'd not do anything to people's opinions. Because to them, it's not about him learning. He doesn't know so he's obviously a BAD CHARACTER, that must be it! "He's a jerk and now I'm going to do a 180° on my own Malleus opinion that is all over my blog and gave my followers whiplash, starting a bashing war by actually not doing a proper review of his character!" No. That's unfair. Why?

Malleus is an interesting character and I'm so sad that he's gone so far into the fandom that he's been woobified and there is no self warn anything: no disclaimer that this is a more romantic Malleus compared to the canon one, or people admitting that Malleus might be OOC as his character reads so incomplete because they write him so... wrong? I think my real problem is the tail end of fandoms that radicalize and throw Malleus around as something he isn't, and that's okay to a certain degree (my /Reader blog acknowledged that Malleus is a canon as I can do without just being Readers buddy, which he's more likely to be in canon). It's just... people are too radical, I think.

I fear the wars this man will create when Chapter 7, Part 3 shows he's got more flaws then he does. I can see a Rook Chapter 5 happening. :(

But I'm not all pessimistic, I know the right fandom should be encouraged and the minority should be ignored, so I know whatever Yana/Aniplex gives us: I support. I know common artists, writer's, editors are all doing fine and I interact normally, but I hate the "drop him" culture these games have in the EN side.

Malleus by himself is an interesting character in his own right, without needing to be steeped in fanon.

I do think that because he was left to stew on his own with pieces of content to hold Mallelikers over, people ended up turning him into their own character to fit their own needs.

And in some ways it's kinda meta because that was something he was trying to escape his whole life so that he could be welcomed by those around him.

I'm usually not as steeped in the fandom as I used to be what w college and stuff creeping up but I'm genuinely sorry that everyone has experienced some form of harassment from both sides of the fence bc one hc didn't fit the other's or the argument of whether his character is good enough or not.

It's disheartening to see others get jumped because of how strongly they feel towards a character and its horrible that you have to endure that on your page anon.

I'm honestly praying Malleus doesn't go through what Rook went thru because that moment is still be felt to this day due to how decisive it was 😭😭😭.

And it's funny bc Rook not choosing Vil was supposed to give Vil growth, who was so hard pressed on winning to the point that he'd contemplated killing his opponent and subsequently Overblotted. The point was that Vil wasn't supposed to win because it'd feed into him. It was a lesson.

With Malleus' Dorm Vignette, I'd argue that him summoning the other dorm leaders was a long time coming considering they weren't doing any affirmative actions to ensure that Malleus could attend. He brought them to him because it was the only thing he could think of; he's not good with technology, time is a construct to him, and no student is willing to approach him for the fun of it unless it's to get smth out of it. It was mostly an act of burning the village to feel its warmth tho it wasn't out of malicious intent.

In the end I can reason he was still partially wrong, he only considered brainstorming with Lilia [and Lilia, a jokester that he is, encouraged him.] Instead of talking to Crowley.

But I do think that Malleus being the poster boy has led to him being so oversaturated in the fandom that a lot of his personality is lost in translation once more.

I liken it to Ace Trappola. Fanon!Ace played up his worst traits to the max without allowing the nuance of his character growth to shine thru. Luckily, Ace is in the recovery period but the same cannot be said for Floyd 😭😭😭.

My most basic observation is that popularity takes the nuance out of characters and I'm hoping against hope that Chapter 7 shows a new side of Malleus that sets the record straight bc as someone who loves character studies watching Malleus get chopped and screwed is 🥶🥶🥶.

Hey all sorry for the silence again but I’m hoping to ask for a little bit of input here. I’ve been thinking over how to present certain things I’ve been discovering. Especially given tumblr is heavily limited on picture posting and had to consider if I would end up creating more then one post about things and just figuring out a way to keep all the data together. After some discussion, I am considering making a text list of all the people Ugigiugi copied because based on what me and a few people have found. This list would be divided into brackets for the sake of organization and keeping updates. Here’s what I’m thinking of as a breakdown of the list.

Other Artist who Ugigiugi has traced. (People who are not part of Twst community who have their work stolen ei: Oc’s, tracing from other fandom’s fanart.)

A small section for Twst Game animation/resources along with Disney related things. (While JP disney/Aniplex and the other studios involved have copyright protection, this is still a part of the issues of tracing so I’ll address this section.

Other copyrighted material. (Aka Manga, other published and officially licensed comic or manga series. Again copyright protection is still in place for these but this part will need to be addressed.

I feel like this format will at help list things down for people. I have a private list myself but I figure perhaps releasing something equivalent can help organize findings since a number of people have stuff on one side or another. Plus? After everything I’ve been combing through? It’s just a rabbit hole at this point because I’ve been just finding more things going through older content I enjoyed and now all I see is just where tracing happened. I can update the text list with names of artists as more things come up. Also If anyone else wants to add names, all they have to do is message me with proof of the copy/original source and name of the artist to help credit stuff. At least that's my idea on the matter. Hello, Mul! Well you've walked right on into the autists grotto. Welcome, welcome. Sit tight!* *and forgive me for any incorrect info; most of this is off of the top of my head.

To begin, I should probably give you the basics.

Twisted wonderland was developed by Walt Disney Japan; and published by Aniplex. Twisted wonderland is a mix between a rythm game, a battle game, and a visual novel with a gacha system to get cards of the characters. Said characters were designed by Yana Toboso, who created Black Bulter/Kuroshitsuji, if you're familiar with that title. They also are/were in charge of the original plan, and the main script as far as I am aware. Though the game has been available in Japan since early 2020, it took until January of 2022 to be released in America and to be given an english translation. I don't think it's been released all over the world though, as I've had to download the game via quoapp and I live in the uk.

Since this is a disney game, our roster of characters is inspired by Disney Villains from various franchises- much like the dorms. These dorms, Heartslabyul, Savanaclaw, Octavinelle, Scarabia, Pomefiore, Ignihyde and Diasomnia. They are each inspired by the 'spirit' of one of the great seven.

But who are the great seven, you may ask? To explain, there are seven influental figures in the world, called The Great Seven whose deeds are told through many legends. This group of characters are the following- The Queen of Hearts, The King of Beasts, The Sea Witch, The Sorcerer of the Sands, The Fairest Queen, The King of the Underworld, and The Thorn Fairy. I'm sure you're able to figure out which villains each of these is based off of via their names, so I won't go into that.

The great seven, in the world of twisted wonderland- aren't considered to be villains. The statues of them at night raven college- the setting of the game, speak only of their good qualities. Such as the following; 'A compassionate sea witch who dwelled in a grotto deep beneath the waves. To repent for past misdeeds, she devoted herself to helping troubled souls, guiding even seemingly hopeless romances to a true happy ending.' To put that into perspective, these 'villains' are highly respected.

I would like to say from here, that despite their similarities, the characters you interact with at night raven college are NOT related to the great seven, or their henchmen and the likes. They're inspired by them, though, and 'twisted' from the characters. But, Azul, the Ursula inspired character does not equal the sea witch.

In the game, you as the player take the role of 'Yuu'- or whatever you choose to call yourself. The protagonist. Despite having no powers of your own, being a completely ordinary human- you are taken to the world of twisted wonderland via a magic mirror. You find yourself at night raven college; a magic training school for boys. You need to find your way back home, but the headmaster- a man called Dire Crowley- offers you protection until a way to do so is discovered. You, or, Yuu, is placed in an unnamed, run down dormitory outside of the main campus, and throughout the game you will be partnered up with Grim, A hot headed fire monster cat who originally made attempts to steal your spot at the college. Chaos ensued, but after the events of the start of the prolouge, you and Grim end up enrolling as one student- since you are unable to use magic.

Generally I just find it to be a fun and (mostly) light hearted game, although some of the overblot storylines hit me in the feels and resonate with me a lot. ('Overblot is a form taken by those who overuse their magic and let their negative emotions "blot" their magic wands.')

You can play twistunes, which is the rythm game part, decorate a 'guest room', partake in battles, and read vignettes or the main story to get to know the characters better.

You mentioned to vanny that you wanted a more simple explanation, so I wont go any further unless you have questions, but please feel free to send a follow-up ask if anything is confusing!

Tldr, normal human gets sent to magic world and magic school, needs to find a way to get home, interacts with the other students who are inspired by disney villains along the way and you get the treat of watching one of them traumadump after you beat their overblot boss battle. It's also silly.

Just a note if you want to play the game, it can be quite grind-heavy, so if you dislike repetitive tasks it may not be the game for you.

The Toonami Trending Rundown for November 2023. After two years of being stuck in “Crunchyroll Jail”, Demon Slayer has finally returned to the better cartoon show to premiere the highly acclaimed Mugen Train arc. And it’s not alone, as Dr. Stone has also returned to resume the second half of the 3rd season, the New World, while IGPX returns to the lineup for the first time in 10 years, as Discotek releases an HD Remaster of Toonami’s first original series.

November 4-5 was a post-Halloween marathon night, as Toonami re-aired Part 1 of Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters, in addition to the first two episodes of IGPX due to the extra hour the block got due to the end of Daylight Savings. In terms of trending, both shows trended in the USA, although the former got some assistance as Part 2 was just released in Japan and on simulcasting. For the night of November 11-12, the premiere night of Demon Slayer and Dr. Stone, #Toonami trended in the USA alongside Demon Slayer and Dr. Stone. #Toonami also trended on Tumblr alongside Demon Slayer and One Piece. On November 18-19, #Toonami trended in the USA on Twitter and on Tumblr, while Demon Slayer and Dr. Stone both trended in the US. And on November 25-26, #Toonami trended in the USA alongside Dr. Stone and IGPX.

The feature for November 11 was a new ID bump made by The Foreign Correspondents' Club. You can check it out below.

The feature for November 18 was a game review of Sea of Stars, a role-playing video game by Sabotage Studio that is available on modern platforms. TOM and SARA have called it a modern-day rendition of the classic Chrono Trigger video game.

And for November 25, Toonami aired another new ID bump featuring TOM and SARA trying out an explosive new weapon, this time from MoreFrames AnimationCo.

With Demon Slayer finally back on the lineup, Toonami has plenty of Demon Slayer to catch up on. Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train arc is only 7 episodes long, given it’s a TV version of the hit Mugen Train film. But there is also the Entertainment District Arc, which will be an addition 11 episodes in length to complete season 2. Followed by the 11-episode Swordsmith Village Arc that makes up season 3. During the Aniplex panel on Saturday morning at Anime NYC, it was announced that the Entertainment District Arc will also be making its way to Toonami on January 13, following the completion of Mugen Train.

Demon Slayer fans will have plenty more to celebrate in the future, as the official Kimetsu no Yaiba Japanese website has already confirmed that a fourth season is in production, to cover the Hashira Training arc. Additional details are to be revealed on December 10.

When it rains, it pours, and with Toonami rekindling relationships with Aniplex (and potentially all of Sony-Crunchyroll LLC), Aniplex USA has announced on Friday at Anime NYC this weekend that a second show is also on the way for the better cartoon show. Lycoris Recoil, an original anime series directed by Shingo Adachi, the character designer and chief animation director of Sword Art Online, will be joining the Toonami lineup on January 20, as the first new acquisition in the 2024 calendar year.

Luffy from One Piece made his debut on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade this year, as he had his own float parading down the streets of New York City for the very first time. Anime was well represented, as he was joined by a Goku float from Dragon Ball Super, as well as a Christmas themed Pikachu and Eevee float from Pokémon. Unfortunately, Luffy’s hat would deflate after it got snagged by a tree branch due to strong winds in the area. The float was still able to fly and would later be showcased on the NBC broadcast, albeit with Luffy’s straw-hat looking like a bucket hat as a result of the tear and partial deflation.

Finally, Toonami has announced marathon nights for Christmas and New Year’s as the block winds down with the year coming to a close. For Christmas week on December 23, Toonami will air all 7 episodes of Dr. Stone: New World Part 2 it has aired to that point from Midnight to 3:30 a.m. EST. While for New Year’s week on December 30, Toonami will air all 7 episodes of Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train arc from midnight to 3:30 a.m.

My Review of Lycoris Recoil

How did I get into this anime? I had a few open slots for new anime last summer. Plus, this came on the recommendation of one of my friends.

Japan seems to be at the most peaceful here than I’ve ever seen in any anime. That’s thanks to these assassins (known as “Lycoris”). Their jobs are to stop crime before it starts. One such Lycorsis is named Takina Inoue. There’s no doubt that she can get the job done, but really has no mindset for innocent bystanders. For fuck’s sake, she used a machine gun to take down some kidnappers and no fucks given about the hostage. Takina has a mindset that goes like, “You’re alive, right? So, you’re fine!” Takina was later moved to another section by a DA. Takina will now live and work at a café named LycoReco. Random. Actually, quite the opposite as this café has quite the crack-team including the hacker Kurumi, the getaway driver Mizuki, and the bad-ass teacher Mika.

Takina is now the newest member of this little section under the careful eye of Chisato Nishikigi. Chisato is another young girl that’s about Takina’s age and is considered to be the best Lycoris to learn from. However, Chisato is the polar opposite of Takina. Chisato is a lot more extroverted and has a philosophy of avoiding casualties during missions and that includes the bad guys. Can Takina learn something from spending time with Chisato and the other workers at LycoReco?

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: This has been claimed by Aniplex of America and Crunchyroll. I got the opportunity to hear the English dub to this and thought they did a really good job. But I already knew it was in good hands when you’ve got Xanthe Huynh and Lizzie Freeman in the cast. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

JAPANESE CAST: *Takina is played by Shion Wakayama

*Chisato is played by Chika Anzai (known for Mina on Attack on Titan, Barbara on The Promised Neverland, Ryou on Taisho Fairy Tale, Nanamine on Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, and Sugawara on O Maidens in Your Savage Season)

ENGLISH CAST: *Takina is played by Xanthe Huynh (known for Platelets on Cells at Work, Hanyuu on Higurashi Gou, Menma on Anohana, Nagisa on Madoka Magica, Hanayo on Love Live, and PallaPalla on Sailor Moon [redub])

*Chisato is played by Lizzie Freeman (known for Chizuru on Rent-A-Girlfriend, Trish on Jojo’s Pt. 5, Hinata on Tokyo Revengers, Cardinal on SAO: Alicization, Mujika on The Promised Neverland, and Kizuna on Shield Hero)

SHIPPING: Let’s just say I ship these two the same way I ship Mikoto and Kuroko from the Railgun/Index series. I support it. I know it isn’t canon-canon, but enough hints were dropped for a majority of fans to support this.

CONTROVERSIAL EYE-CATCH: Has there ever been controversy revolving around an eye-catch? You know, those 5-second eye-catches animes put up halfway into an episode! In episode 11, we get an eye-catch of the girls putting spider lilies (a.k.a. those fucking flowers) in their mouths and smoking them like a cigarette. The higher-ups said, “Oh no, we can’t have our fans mimicking this. Those flowers are poisonous AF!” And so, it is changed from now on! One might think that this was taken way too far. But again, those fucking flowers are poisonous. Cosplayers will do anything to get that perfect shot. I wouldn’t put anything past anyone.

ENDING: Pretty much every major showdown this series has given us is connected to everything that happened in the first few episodes, those ammo hijackers. The one that seems to be pulling the strings is this guy named Majima. He’s the one who looks like a poor man’s Meme Oshino. Majima knows that he’s been tracked by a Lycoris, mainly Chisato. As it turns out, the two of them have more in common than one would think. Both were involved in a major event that caused the massive destruction of the Tokyo Tower. And both had extreme surgery by an institute.

It was made clear that Chisato had some major surgery done. She has no heartbeat due to this advanced machinery put in. Mika and the Alan Institute took a chance with this as Chisato was already showing promise as a Lycoris. But the heart condition she had would have squashed that. Unfortunately, Chisato’s life has been significantly shortened. A shady nurse that’s in cahoots with Mr. Yoshie (the man who gave Chisato’s life a second chance) drugged Chisato during a physical and tinkered with her ticker. At most, Chisato has two months to live.

Bigger changes are also on the horizon. Chisato got the DA to allow Takina to return. And most surprising of all is that LycoReco is going to close down. This means that Kurumi and Mizuki can leave Japan and do their own thing before coming into this life. We gotta start wondering why Mr. Yoshie is behind this sudden change with Chisato. Well, he and Mika made arrangements on how many kills she’s able to make. But as we all know, Chisato doesn’t want to kill anyone. Mika just wanted Chisato to live a happy life. We might have to put all that drama to the side as Majima hijacked all communication and revealed of the Lycoris’s existence (as the group has been top secret up to this point) and kinda set traps all around the city. If the Lycoris see civilians with firearms, they get in position out of habit. So, this is not good. Not just that, but Chisato and Mika are dealing with a hacker who kidnapped Mr. Yoshie.

Chisato made it to where Mr. Yoshie was being held and was confronted by Majima. He was able to tilt the fight to his own advantage and got in a couple of cheap-shots. In the meantime, his hijacking broadcast is still making airwaves showing the residents of Japan that yes, killer little girls walk among us and 3000 people disappear a year because of them. Okay, enough of this Meme Oshino knock-off. Let’s get this LycoReco crew back together again. The crew was able to temporarily knock-out Majima and hack into the system to stop broadcast of the Lycoris. Unfortunately, the higher-ups are ready to exterminate every, last Lycoris because their identities were revealed.

Okay, now is when I can be suspicious of this anime. Never trust an anime that features those red fucking flowers in the opening sequence. Because there’s a chance many characters are going to be killed.

Anyways, Chisato and Takina were able to save the Lycoris that were about to be exterminated. The only thing that fell through for Takina was that she was stopped by Chisato when she tried to go after Mr. Yoshie. He was of course responsible for Chisato’s shortened life-span. But Chisato’s kind nature once again prevents anyone from dying. Although, she does shoot Mr. Yoshie (it just doesn’t kill him). Mika might kill him though. He shows he can really kick ass! Chisato winds up alone with Majima again. He’s going to suicide-bomb the building. Luckily, Takina is coming to the rescue. Now the next things that happen I can only chalk this up as convenience.

Majima takes a nasty tumble during the altercation and is somehow still alive. The “bomb” he set off was really fireworks. Chisato is going to remain alive thanks to Mr. Yoshie again.

Okay then. I’m all for happy endings, but all of this seems rather too convenient.

In the aftermath, LycoReco is back open. But Chisato never returned. Takina eventually went on a mission to track her down. In Chisato fashion, she decided to heal herself alone. Well, everyone wound up together again and end up in Hawaii. Okay, that sounds like something Chisato would do.

This anime was definitely a wild card of excitement. Usually, the summer anime seasons are the “lull” season with not much going on. Last summer was no exception, it was a bit of a lull. But Lycoris Recoil and Made in Abyss were the big hits of that season in my opinion. What’s even better is that Lycoris Recoil is an original anime. The manga adaptation only came out 2 months after the anime’s premier. This anime was silly, action-packed, and just a joy to watch. For all of you action fanatics, this might be right up your alley. Many reviewers say this is like John Wick. I have never watched any of the John Wick movies, but that’s probably an incentive if you have.

I’m glad this anime is getting more attention here and there. I mean, they collabed with Pizza Hut recently. God, could these two be any more like the girls from Railgun?! Okay, that’s all from me. I say give it a go!

BriarBaskets AU INTRO POST

So, welcome to the TWSTBriarBasketsAU. Out of the 15 people that are gonna interact with this post, maybe one of you have seen my account mention it before. This au is a slightly darker, slightly more anxiety filled, sorta open world rpg-style take on the original mobile game Twisted Wonderland made by Disney Japan and Aniplex. The main cast characters that you're familiar with were created by Yana Toboso and don't belong to me. Also, I'm gonna be bullshitting a bunch of world building, so don't take any of it as canon.

!!WARNING!! THIS AU IS NOT SPOILER FREE This intro post does not contain any spoilers for any of the chapters available, but do know that in future posts they may contain spoilers from the chapters.

In this au, you're the magicless new student, who resides at the school lead by the oh so "gracious" headmage, and you're put in the care of the uncanny and slightly odd Vice Housewarden of Ramshackle, Dru Briar.

While you're settling in and contemplating your fate, Dru sits you down to explain a few things to you. "There's good and bad news. The good news is, that yes, it is possible for you to go home and you will go home. The bad news is, the only way for you to go home is if you fix the school."

"Main objective: Fix the school. Something is wrong with the school, and you have to fix it. "How do I fix the school?" you may be asking. Well in order to fix the school, you need to perform a ritual, and to perform the ritual you need to collect 8 symbols from each dorm respectively.

However, as you've probably already guessed, it won't be easy. You will have to be sneaky, you will have to lie, you will have to use resources available to you, etc. Most importantly, you cannot afford to get hurt or lose. If you get hurt, time does not stop for you, and if you lose, you get no second chance."

"I will be here if you need further instruction, the rules for the dorm are over there on the wall, good luck." "Oh and, don't lose....please."

With that, Dru gets up and leaves, letting you sit on the rickety couch in the dorm to take everything in. Grim waltzes back in, looking back and forth between you and Dru before shrugging and heading into the kitchen, presumably to go through the fridge.

Alright then, now that you've been given an intro allow me to introduce you to your guide: Dru Briar.

Dru Briar is the Vice Housewarden of Ramshackle dorm in this au. You will be the Acting-Housewarden ("Prefect") of Ramshackle, taking over the Housewarden duties in Miss Bearer's absence. Worry not dear reader/player, for Dru will be taking over those duties when you find yourself busy with completing your mission.

Dru is there to give you advice, tips and tricks, and (in easy mode) to fetch you anything you think you may need. After all, you will be quite busy throughout your stay here at Night Raven Collage. They will also make sure to remind you of important details, and point you in the right direction. I must warn you that they're not going to be available at all hours of the day. They are as much of a student here as you are, therefore they have classes to attend to as well.

Before I take you onto the next section I have one more thing to add. I highly recommend listening to the bits of advice that Dru gives you before you leave the dorm each day. Sometimes they are words of encouragement, other times they are helpful/crucial funfacts.

With that being said, make sure you remember this: If you are ever confused on what to do next, if you ever need advice for anything, you can always go to Dru for assistance.

To start wrapping things up, I'm gonna explain a few more things.

The style of this au is meant to simulate a classic adventure rpg game. You're given a task, a motivation, and an end goal. The only difference here is the stakes. Those stakes being, you can only "lose" a set number of times, and depending on the difficulty level you chose, you don't get to lose more than once (as in, if you lose, you don't get to try again. You know what I'm implying.).

As implied above, there is an easy mode, a moderate mode, and a hard mode.

In Easy Mode, you will be able to find the 8 symbols at the end of each of their respective chapter. They will be the easiest to acquire and find. You will also get a "little helper" that is there to assist in finding each symbol. They also serve as a "try again" button. You get 5 lives out of this button before it stops working. The symbols will be around the size of a charm and you will be provided a charm bracelet to put them on (to keep track of them).

In Moderate Mode, the placement of the symbols will vary from being at the end of the chapters to in the middle of the chapters. They will be harder to find in this mode, but still easy enough to get on your own. You will also get a "little helper" that is there to assist in finding each symbol. They also serve as a "try again" button, except this time you only get 3 lives. The symbols will be moderately sized, as if they will little trinkets such as figurines or accessories. You will not get anything to keep them in, so I recommend getting back to Ramshackle as soon as possible after acquiring each symbol.

In Hard Mode, the symbols are in plain sight. They will be easy to find, but near impossible to acquire. You will not be getting a "little helper" in this mode, you're on your own. Since there is no "little helper", you will also not get any second chances. You only have one shot in this mode. The symbols will be moderately sized, as if they are accessories. You will not get anything to keep them in, so I recommend getting back to Ramshackle as soon as possible after acquiring each symbol. I can't stress this enough, depending on the path you chose to getting the symbol, the moment you get it, run like hell back to your room in Ramshackle. Fear not, each difficulty and their corresponding symbols will be explained at a later date with their own respective posts. Choosing the difficulty will be done at the end of the Prologue Chapter "in-game".

Now for the closing act.

This au is not intended to be romantic in any way. I'm not saying you can't think of ways to put romance in. If by some miracle you chose to actually write something for this au (which I will read by the way.) all I ask is that you keep it SFW, keep it LEGAL, and keep Dru (and any other ocs you see me introduce or mention here) out of any of the romance stuff.
