#giving racism vibes
Note
the origin of the two wolves meme is racist theres been a few people pointing that out in the replies of your post
It really isn’t, though?
It started as a meme someone posted on a “failed meme” Facebook page in 2018 based on either something a Christian weirdo said (I think it was Billy graham?) in the 70s.
Billy graham was being racist for making up a legend about a culture that white people think is mystical or whatever, yes, the origin of the “legend” is racist. That doesn’t really make the meme racist imo?
Billy graham cracker didn't make the meme. He made/popularized a fake proverb. The meme was making fun of his use of his fake proverb. A parody of a racist isn’t inherently racist, especially because the meme has by now removed the link to native cultures by just saying “there are two wolves inside you” instead of “in the Cherokee culture there are two wolves” or whatever. It’s racist and harmful to still go on and say “oh yeah in Cherokee culture they say there’s two wolves inside you one evil and one good and the winner is whichever you feed” because first of all the “evil” traits graham cracker described were more or less the seven deadly sins of Christianity and the “good” traits were more or less the heavenly virtues which should already be a hint that it was a Christian invention.
Beyond that though? It was never a legend in Cherokee culture and the guy made up a different tribe at random each time he retold it because he was either incompetent or just didn’t want people to realize he was just lying. The racist is the butt of the joke, not Native American cultures. I fail to see inherent racism in flippantly parodying the weird fake legends he made up to sound cultured or whatever.

now that im awake again i can ramble about how ranboo is so visibly afraid of alienating his fanbase that he compromises his own shaky morals to do so
their piss poor attempt to discuss racism while playing a video game and talking about merch was like putting a tablet in front of a toddler to keep its attention and the way they talked to their fanbase even further showed just how put of touch they are with everything and how they just dont want to tell their army of white queers to cut that shit out bc it might…..upset them. who cares how much you donate to charity or go ‘guyssss stop being racist please :(((‘ when youre too fucking spineless to actually call out your own community in tangible and specific ways.
lets also talk about how bootwt viciously and maliciously invalidated dream’s coming out and ranboo literally said nothing. after making a big song and dance about his care for the community, he saw one of his peers being absolutely ripped to shreds by his own community and stayed completely radio silent. who gives a shit how anyone feels about dream. queerness is not a conditional thing that you get to take away when it’s someone you hate. and its telling that ranboo didnt seem to think it was important to actually put the work in to cultivate a more inclusive space.
its all so fucking arrogant and performative it pisses me the fuck off. and it pisses me off even further that their fans keep being all ‘oh but its the fans not ranboo’ when ranboos inaction is what has caused shit to go unchecked for so long. it’s ranboos responsibility to show what is unacceptable. obviously they cant control the millions of fans they have but they sure as fuck can model what their community should strive to be.

The way some people disregard the words of the cast and crew of The Color Purple, painting them, mainly the black actresses on set, as being dramatic and denying them and their needs any dignity is atrocious. Seeing people calling Taraji "dramatic" for, rightfully so, complaining about her and her costars not being provided Ubers or just anyone else to drive them, having to either drive themselves or use their own money when she is giving valid points at the staggering treatment she and her cast mates are receiving. Do some actors necessarily mind driving themselves? No, some are probably fine with it. But wouldn't it make sense to also provide them the option if they want to be chauffeured? Especially taking into consideration the risk to their safety that could pose given the long hours that they work. Reactions to this is especially sinister when you have people, when seeing black and brown women talk about their struggles and poor treatment, immediately go "oh they're just being dramatic" and then acting like they know anything about their wealth when literally 1.) The Strike provided many examples of how pay actually works for these actors and 2.) Taraji has stated many times that throughout her long career she has not been paid what she deserves and often has to stand up for herself to get it. Don't even get me started on one of the actresses, Danielle Brookes, saying during a panel that they weren't given their own dressing rooms or food until Oprah stepped in. Those conditions were not fair toward the cast and crew.

Not going to say much on what's happening in the OSC, but heavily lambasting people without actually talking to them about what they have done wrong, especially if they admit didn't know much about the context of the issue, is not helpful.
You can at least educate them about it. That's fucking more productive than blasting them on your account. Also, since this is on the topic of racism (and you know who's awful video as well), I feel the need to say this:
If you are white, don't butt in on an issue that harmed BIPOC. Just listen to us, or at least be supportive.
Also, for white allies, you don't need to callout every single other white person for their mistakes. I honestly rather you try to talk to them first to help them understand. I have concerns if you do more calling out over actually having a conversation.
You are not helping if you do this.
If other BIPOC are trying to tell you that you are not helping, listen please.
You don't have to hit people over the head for them to learn. You really don't need to. Just at least, reach out to them. Please.
You can hold people accountable and help them understand what they done wrong at the same time!
With this said, I highly suggest watching this video by
F. D. Signifier on how not to be an ally:

I'm very dragonpilled right now and 3 Houses/Hopes refuses to scratch the itch despite arguably having one of the best takes on manaketes in series history(used loosely here ofc since not all dragons are made equal in FE). God, the Nabateans are right up my alley and yet we get crumbs. It got me thinking about Laguz vs Nabateans, seeing the dragon fam drama in Tellius be touched on, TONS more than Rhea, Seteth, Flayn, Macuil, Indech, the Relics siblings, and even Sothis.
I know this is about to sound like I'm asking "lol what's the difference between night and day" here, but I genuinely would like to know just how much better IntSys did with the dragon shifters in Tellius from a person more knowledgeable about it, and how they could've done the Nabateans much better in hindsight, especially since both games do a very interesting twist on dragons for the series. I'm thinking of watching a playthrough of Tellius to literally just FINALLY get my dragon fam/race fill instead of asking the Fodlan series to give me anything (I'M STARVING DAMMIT), and would like to hear your thoughts on what you think of the Laguz overall and how their race enhances the plot. Spoilers welcome btw.
Oh.
(ugh i forgot this in my drafts i’m so sorry!)
Let's say Tellius starts and breathes with the racial angle/card - we have two kinds of humans, beorcs who are random humans and laguz, humans who can shapeshift.
Through the course of the saga, we see Laguz. Not just here as mere place holder and infodumps, but we see the various leaders of the different tribes, we go to Castle Gallia, Ike talks and learns from all kind of Laguz around.
For the dragon Laguz living in Goldoa, their first appearance, iirc, is when Ike's boat crashes on their shores, dragons are isolationists and ask him to get the fuck out, we can't because no boat, and the situation is dire until the dragon prince, Kurthnaga, pops up and defuses the situation.
Afterwards we see Deghinsea talk to the other Laguz Kings about the plot.
But for the dragon laguz? The most important about them isn’t their scale or anything, but the familial drama associated to Goldoa’s royal line. They are not only dragons and here to give a backstory to someone - nope, they are characters with arcs.
It ultimately touches the greater plot and one of Tellius’s most destestable themes - but such is their verse, and they are fundamentally a family screwed by their world.
Sister goes to hold the hand of the worst human alive, worst human alive use the kid they got as a barganing chip, older brother goes to rescue her and ends up as a drugged and tortured being, younger brother is sheltered but lost about what is happening, and their father is enduring the loss of his two children and also the fate of the world on his moustache, until he cannot anymore. Older brother’s wife sides with worst human alive just to get a chance to see her beloved, and her own grandpa has to betray his country for her sake and her unborn kid.
Meanwhile? Rhea is a lizard in hiding because her siblings became toothpicks, but Seteth ? Doesn’t have anything to do and or reaction when the truth is revealed, or when people are trying to turn them in toothpicks again. He won’t talk to Nemesis, and player pandering forces him not to give more fucks than needed about his sister.
Like, gosh, Rajaion only appears in a cutscene (bar his, uh, alternate form) and I get more about his relationship with his siblings, dad and lover from Tellius than Seteth’s 10 supports and 2 games where he could be interacting with his siblings, but, uh, never does in a meaningful way.
And that’s not to say Seteth BaD or anything like this, really !
Just to say the lizard family from Fodlan didn’t receive even a tenth of what the Goldoan royals received, even if they have much more screentime.
Quality > Quantity.
What they could have done with Fodlan to make the dragon family act more like a family rather than the clusterfuck we had?
Well, for starters, the Nabatean AG paralogue is a step in the right direction, because they interact without using Billy as the “center of universe” prop everything must tend to.
Maybe Fodlan could have started by at least naming one (maybe not all 12) dragon who was turned in a relic.
Maybe we could have had a confirmation about Flayn’s status, as a pure blooded Nabatean or as a hybrid.
They could have given us more breadcrumbs about what it means to share “blood” with humans, and if it was something that is supposed to be common, or reserved to “very special humans”. They could have developped more about what Nabateans felt seeing their current “allies” use relics, or even their enemies engineer fake “hearts” to turn humans in grotesque abominations supposed to mirror them.
I’m not saying we should had playable Indech’n’Macuil, but at least see and interact with them more, or give more info about them, why did they escape after the WoH, did they even meet Rhea once in 1k years, etc etc. Do we know if Nabateans are still surviving outside of Fodlan (it’s implied by Petra iirc) ?
That’s why I would have wanted more War of Heroes content, I know the Nabatean civilisation is already razed but we could have had the content I wanted and expected since day 1, about Nabateans, their place in the world and how they are supposed to work/live/coexist in peace with humans (and agarthans?) - we could have had some Nabateans who thought they were superiors to humans and were tyrants, and Nabateans who wanted and worked with them on an “equal” basis or some who were just consulted as oracles or seers...
Can they still live with humans ? Did they disagree on what to do next, after the Red Canyon, did some wanted to hide until the end of the times, or some wanted to rule over humans, or some only wanted to guide them?
All those things, and we will never know.
Bear in mind, we don’t know Deghinsea’s tax policy (still his country is isolationist to an extreme degree so...), but we know he loved all of his children, we know Almedha feels like dirt because she feels like she is the catalyst for the destruction of her family and expects Ena, her sister in law, to despise her, we know Nasir’s love for his granddaughter is stronger than in loyalty to his King and his own morals...
And we see Kurthnaga trying to do the “right thing”, only to realise the “right thing” isn’t the thing we always want to do, and how he ultimately has to walk in his father’s shoes.
It’s a tight group, take one of them, and you would find bonds and links to another member of the group.
In Fodlan, if I look at Rhea’s bonds (even if I take Nopes because remember, player pandering means “alone b4 u since zanado”) I still don’t know how she feels about Indech, how he feels about her, or what is going on in the state of the world.
Fodlan really tries to sell us a story where the Nabateans aren’t that close to each other, where Indech will not give a fuck about his sister being turned in a pair of daggers and where Cichol doesn’t think it is important to warn his brothers that Supreme Leader and her friends want to erase every Nabatean from Fodlan -
Hell, again with Fodlan’s main issue (or one of its main issues) - the Nabateans cannot collectively react to an event like a second attempt at ousting them from Fodlan, or in Supreme Leader’s words, create a “Nabatean blood-less world!” because Hresvelg Tea needs to be sold.
Almedha might have hold Ashnard’s hand, Kurthnaga, Deghinsea, Nasir and Ena are quick and fast to call him an asshole. I’m sure Rajaion did too. And there’s no need to have some “maybe we could have walked with him” or some “maybe he had his reasons??” when a member of their family is/was being tortured under his care.
Compare this to Seteth’s “well i know you don’t want to kill Supreme Leader but we have to put an end to the war!” when Rhea has been in her dungeons for 5 years, when he knows she’s in Enbarr and when he knows what happened to Flayn in the span of 1 month.
Fodlan cannot develop Nabateans without making Supreme Leader look like a fool, and Supreme Leader is Fodlan’s cash cow.
That’s, I think, the main difference between Fodlan’s Nabateans and Tellius’s dragon laguz.
#androblob#i'm so sorry i sometimes start to type a reply but then I put it on hold#because i have something else to do and here we are 3 months later#laguz in general were characters not nods or background exposition#never to be touched upon as to not make someone look bad#or just nods and being around because hey look we brought back beasts you loved them before right?#That's what they did in FE13 and I hated it#The FE14 beasts were apparently living in villages and no thought or care is given about a race of shapeshifters leaving in a world with hum#humans damn#they're just like people from a random village who just happen to have fur that's all#after coming from Tellius it's a bit light#but the game didn't want to shed light on them so at least that's that#to make nabateans better in hindsight talk about them#make them interact with each other#give them that familly or close group vibe the dragons from Tellius had#i think shifters and manaketes are used to lampshade an existing situation to depict racism or the struggle to live with people who are#different#if it's just to have a unit with fur then bar the gameplay what's the point?#at least that's what bamco does and it often works#Fodlan is an exception because the one who is arguing against coexistence is the cashcow of the saga#so she can't be wrong nor be right else the game wouldn't be released#so we're left with that milquetoast piece of jelly#'tell me is it bad that i do not want to die because my ears are pointy?'

My hairdresser didn't spend the entire hour telling me about how she would purposefully mess up the names of her Asian coworkers and make racist comments to their face as if looking for me to validate her actions, in between comments about how I looked like a little doll (baby talk voice), all while I sat there and couldn't move, for ppl to say depictions of racism in books are 'too blatant' or 'too preachy' 🙄🙄🙄

I don’t think any scooby doo show can beat the one that int been end revealed that the “ancient Egypt was built by aliens” conspiracy was true and featured a group of conquistadors who were only evil because they were corrupted by the same alien magic that also gives scooby the ability to talk and causes all the creepy shit to happen in the town
now girl which scooby doo show was this? it must be mystery incorporated which I did not see to the end (wasn't the biggest fan of that version) and nothing in this world will ever make me like that show and this episode has just made me hate it even more 😭 I hate shit that is about aliens actually being the ones that built pyramids and ancient Egypt

So I am not making this post to feel superior for how stupid I find James Somertons video essays. I am sure there are a lot of great and brilliant arguments that he stole from other people. That being said, what really stood out to me after watching the videos by hbomberguy and todd in the shadows is how incredibly tumblr the stuff he straight up made up feels like. I am sure I have seen half of the claims that were debunked by todd on here as posts, falling into the genre of:
Outrage over "widely spread" opinions or reactions that are actually just based on one tweet by just one random person with no following or by a guy (or "white women") he made up to get angry at
Misogyny and racism veiled in social justice language
Conspiracy theories veiled in social justice language
Fake history hiding its contempt for historians and academic research in social justice language
Claims that sound intuitively right but there is literally no evidence and you are left to wonder why anyone would just make this stuff up
Wild unfounded claims about media that make you lose your mind wondering if you both have read/watched the same source material
Not gonna lie, I wouldn't be surprised if someone found a video of him just straight up plagiarising that one infamous and antisemitic tumblr post about how anne franks father was homophobic for leaving his dead daughters bisexuality out of the first edition of her published diary. Exactly the vibes his bullshit gives off. What the fuck.

Propaganda
Merle Oberon (Wuthering Heights, The Scarlet Pimpernel)—She was mixed race (born in India and her mother was Sri Lankan) and still managed to make it in the British and American film industries (by passing) despite a rough start in life and industry racism. She was the first Asian person to be nominated for any Academy Award (best actress in 1935)! She also survived a car accident in 1937 and kept on acting until 1973, despite potentially career-ending facial scars. Also, she met her third husband while they were filming a movie together in 1973 (her last movie and she still looks great!). They fell in love and got married in 1975 when she was 62 and he was 36. She died 4 years later in 1979. Iconic.
Jean Seberg (Breathless, Saint Joan)— Some of us watched À bout de souffle as a lil French undergrad and had the trajectory of our lives changed by Jean Seberg. She IS French new wave!! She is the moment!! She sadly had to work with a lot of shitty directors in her career but even so, she has this magnetic energy whenever she’s on screen. In her personal life, she was also very supportive of civil rights causes, and was even targeted/harassed by the FBI for financially supporting the Black Panther Party.
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Merle Oberon:

Beautiful. Talented. Biracial. Also please refer to the following promo from the aforementioned A Night To Remember, in which she plays the writer George Sand:

Her performances always give off this perfect blend of of being composed, refined, and aloof while still being deeply passionate and I eat it up every time.

A rare example of a WOC working in lead roles in this era (mostly because she worked very hard to pass as white and had to hide her south asian heritage sadly). She has this very regal vibe but also a simmering intensity—even holding her own as Cathy opposite Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff.
I need all the gothic fans to STAND UP for our cathy!!
Tumblr media
She has such a unique face when it comes to old hollywood actresses - a lot of them start to melt together in my brain - but Merle has always stood out to me<3
Tumblr media
Jean Seberg:
Tumblr media
anyone who plays Joan of Arc is kind of hot by default tbh
she's gorgeous, she's cool, she has the original blond pixie cut
She donated a lot of her money to civil rights organizations such as the NAACP and the black panther party as well as Native American school groups, as a result of this the fbi ran a smear campaign against her and a surveillance campaign which is thought to have led to her suicide tragically.
idk if this is propaganda but the COINTELPRO and the FBI are widely blamed for her death. If the FBI was after her for supporting the Black Panther Party you know she was good
