City Pigeons Part 12 CW: blood, past trauma and experimentation
Jason could almost go to sleep. He wouldn’t, not when he was the only Bat in the apartment, but it would be so easy to. Danny made a really good weighted blanket.
It seemed once the kid got over touching someone, he basically became a koala. Cass and Danny had spent the morning wrapped around each other on the couch. Cass was playing one of her weird clicking games and Danny, blue bear in his lap, was scrolling through articles on the tablet that Tim had brought him the other day.
Now, though, Cass was out on a snack run and Danny had slowly slumped over until he was laying across Jason. It wasn’t minded. Jason could admit he still had some trouble with touch himself, but it was easy to be there for Danny like this.
The problem was, Jason needed to get back to Crime Alley for at least a few nights. He was already past when Red Hood should have made an appearance. It he didn’t go back soon, rumors were going to start that he was dead. Again.
Jason waited for Danny to start searching for a new article to read to ask, “Are you alright with meeting someone soon?”
He didn’t expect Danny to tense like he did.
“Robin?”
“No, Dandelion,” Jason said, stroking Danny’s white hair. “N talked with Robin and he knows not to stop by like that without warning. We’ll have him over when you’re comfortable but not before.”
“Okay. Sorry. I don’t mean to…”
“None of that. He freaked you out,” Jason said. “I know he didn’t mean to, and from our guess it’s not his fault how he feels like to you, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t. It’s okay to set boundaries.”
“He… doesn’t feel weird to you?”
Jason sighed. “No. I guess I don’t sense it. I didn’t know you had died until you told me.”
“Oh.” Danny’s voice was small and quiet.
“But I knew that I had died— the others know it’s too,” Jason was quick to add. “It’s alright that you died. No one will think differently of you.”
“They might. It’s… you’re different than me, I guess.”
“I don’t know, because I don’t know what happened to you, but I actually hope so. The way I came back wasn’t pleasant.” Jason had to take a breath before he continued. “I was murdered by a rogue in town called the Joker. I woke up… we’re still not sure when exactly, but somewhere about half a year later. I didn’t have any of my memories, but I still had most of my injuries.
“I was picked up by some people you might hear us refer to— the League of Assassins. They put me back together about a year after my death by tossing me in something called the Lazarus Pits. Those things come with a price though, one that I’m still paying. Coming back was… hard, in a lot of ways.”
“Oh,” Danny said. He clung a little to Jason’s shirt, like he wanted to make sure Jason was still there. It was a feeling Jason understood all too well. “I, um, don’t think I’ve ever stayed really dead for more than a minute or two. At least not like… not like you were.”
Jason rested his hand on Danny’s back, feeling him breath. Feeling him… feeling him not breathe.
“…Danny?”
Danny clung tighter to Jason’s shirt. “Go ahead, ask.”
“Are you… somewhat dead right now?”
“Yes.”
Just one word. A simple answer.
“Okay. That’s— okay. I’m glad there’s a reason that you’re not breathing,” Jason said and pressed a kiss to the top of Danny’s head as he tried to calm his own pounding heart.
“I think B.B. knows. I usually… it’s habit to breath but sometimes I forget and—”
“She’s good at noticing things.” Jason would have to talk with her. “But that goes to what I said, right? None of the others will thinking of you differently.”
“Even if…”
“Even if anything.”
Danny sat up and Jason resisted the urge to reach for him. It took him a moment longer to release Jason’s shirt. Jason sat up slowly and waited for Danny to get the words out he was obviously working on.
“Can I show you?”
“Course.” Jason braced himself for anything.
“It might be bright, close your eyes.”
The flash still shown through Jason’s eyelids.
“Oh.” Danny’s voice wavered horribly. “I didn’t think of that.”
“Danny?” Jason was reaching forward even as he opened his eyes.
It was good he did.
He had to catch Danny as he wavered dangerously. Danny’s who hair was black. Who’s eyes were blue. Who looked all the more like Bruce’s son. Who was bleeding red.
-
“Jesus and Mother Mary,” Dick cursed, resting his forehead against his wrist’s.
Cass came over and peeled the bloody gloves off for him. “Breathe.”
“I am breathing,” Dick wheezed.
“Badly.”
Jason barked out a laugh at that. It was unstable in a way that reminded the room of worse days.
The door banged open and they all jolted, everyone but Cass, who was better than that, and Danny who was still out cold.
“Shit, fuck, sorry,” Tim rambled. “Is he stable?”
“Yes,” Cass answered. Her voice was calm, but but Duke could see the way that she fidgeted. For anyone else it wouldn’t be called fidgeting, but the way that she untied and retied and untied the trash bag in his visions told Dick otherwise.
Cass was as worried as the rest of them.
“Signal?” Tim asked. He came into the room, tablet already pulled up to record everything.
“Hard for me to say,” Duke said with a little shrug. He wished he could say, but he was still trying to understand what he was seeing. “The guy is… he’s like no one I’ve ever seen before. But I think he’s getting stronger.”
“That’s— holy fuck.” Tim paused as he finally got a look at Danny.
“Really looks like the old man like this, doesn’t he?” Jason asked. He was trying to hide how his hands were trembling by keeping his arms crossed. Everyone in the room let him pretend.
Duke sure wouldn’t have wanted to be the one Danny collapsed on like that. It was bad enough being the third one there as he swung over from his patrol. The cuts had still been appearing on Danny’s skin, ripping him apart like he was nothing.
He didn’t look much better all bandaged up.
“I think the cuts were ones he must have sustained before changing forms before he even met us,” Duke reasoned. “They… felt old.”
Dick rubbed at his face. “So the whole time they were there just waiting to bleed?”
Jason laughed again. “Waiting for him to be alive again.”
Slowly, Dick dropped his hands and looked up at Jason. “Jay?”
Okay, so they were at the point of forgetting cape-names now. That was a great sign.
Confusingly, Jason looked to Cass, who actually fidgeted.
“He doesn’t breathe. He does, not always. His heart beats, not always. It is like he…,” she twisted her hand as if trying to grab onto the right word. “Like he relaxes and forgets.”
Well that was weird. Dick nodded to the monitor that he had helped hook up. “He’s breathing right now and the monitor says his heartbeat is hella slow, but steady.”
“This is his alive form, I think. More alive form,” Jason said with a shrug. “His other form is his more dead form. He said he’s never stayed ‘really dead’ like I was. I think ‘really’ was the important word in that. He stressed it like it was… a technically or some shit.”
“Or a loophole,” Tim said. He was watching Danny with his head tilted just slightly to the right.
It was a pose that had Duke straightening up in attention. “What do you see that I can’t?”
Tim glanced at him and then back down at Danny. “The scars don’t match.”
“Ti—Red, please just say it,” Dick pleaded, exhaustion hanging on his words.
“Sorry, I was. I mean, the scars he has now don’t exactly match the scars he had in his— what are we calling it? Dead form?”
Jason flinched.
Dick’s eyes flicked from Jason to Tim. “Let’s go with… ghost. Undead, you know?”
Tim continued on valiantly. “His scars don’t match with what he had in his ghost form. There are a few like around his neck that I think are one-to-one and a lot of them are in the same place from what I can see and might be the same? I’d have to take photos and compare. But… he has more in this living form, I’m sure of it.”
“Okay, right, so that’s a thing,” Jason said. He slid down the wall he was leaning against until he was squatting. He hung his head between his knee and wrapped his hands around the back of his neck.
Duke could see Jason passing out with enough probability that he slipped out of the room to grab some sour candy for Jason and an icepack for the back of his neck. Being honest with himself, Duke could use the moment out of the room. It was a lot to deal with.
Man, someone would have to do something about the bloody couch too… Dick sighed and took the time to send a message to Babs about it as well as an update. Knowing her she had a list of all the furniture in all the safe houses and could get a slipcover ordered on same day delivery. At least he hoped so. Everyone was taking this pretty hard and they didn’t need the reminder.
Duke figured the bad reaction was pretty fair though, they had thought that Danny was getting better and now his healing was going to be set back. Dick would be guilty because he hadn’t been here, Jason going through his issues about kids and violence and death, and Cass already counted Danny as family. She was never good when family was hurt. It was even worse that Danny should have been safe, he was under their watch.
Duke set the pack of candy and ice pack down next to Jason’s foot, close enough that he should be able to feel the cold, and backed up to his corner. It was best not to touch right then. He wasn’t afraid of Jason ever hurting him purposefully, but he was also very aware for Jason it might not always be purposeful.
Cass joined him, leaning against his side, and Duke wrapped an arm around her. Tim was tapping away on his tablet, mostly muttering to himself, but Dick had gotten up to peer over his shoulder.
Jason tore open the packet of candies and popped one in his mouth.
They’d be okay.
It would take work, but they were Bats. They were stubborn.
Dukes wrist buzzed. The tracking number for slipcover flashed across his hud. It would be there by 9 pm.
They’d be okay.
-
Everything hurt. Everything ached all the way down through his skin and muscled and bones. His breath caught in his chest, ragged and frayed like his lungs were full of shattered glass.
He tried not to make a noise.
He tried to stay quiet.
They would notice him if he made a noise. He couldn’t take any more attention. He didn’t think he’d survive more attention. God, that thought was almost enough to kill him. Once he would have done anything for his parents attention and now—
There was a hand in his hair. It was gentle.
Oh, he was crying.
“…going to be okay. We have you, Dandelion, and we’re not letting them touch you ever again. The two Reds will make sure it can never happen again. Once you’re better they’ll take a little road trip.”
That was… that wasn’t… a sob broke through Danny’s lips and he didn’t stop it. He didn’t even try.
He wasn’t there.
He could make noises.
He was safe.
“Danny? Hey, are you awake.”
Danny nodded as much as he could manage.
“Hey there,” Nightwing said, voice so kind that it just made Danny cry harder. “Can you open your eyes for me?”
Danny shook his head.
“Okay, that’s okay, thank you for answering me Danny. How’s the pain? Um, squeeze my hand once if it’s okay, twice if it’s really bad.”
Danny squeezed it three times.
“Really, really bad, huh? Okay. Okay… we can give you some pain meds through your IV. We have you on a saline drip because you looked really bad. We didn’t want to give you any meds without your consent though. Are you alright with some pain medication? Once for yes, twice for no.”
One squeeze.
“Okay, let me go—”
Danny clung to Nightwing’s hand a tightly at he could. His breath stuttered around the glass.
“Not leaving, Dandelion. I’m going to text Red Robin, okay? He’s in the living room. Hood and B.B are out… running an errand. They’ll be back soon. I’ll text Red and he’ll bring the pain meds.”
Danny nodded. Nightwing shifted around, but didn’t let go of Danny’s hand. The breathing calmed, got easier. Danny let out a slow breath.
“Hey Danny,” a new voice said. “The medication will make you feel fuzzy and maybe disoriented. You’ll probably sleep a lot. We don’t want you to wake up panicked. Is there anything we can do to help you know you’re here with us and safe?”
“Bear,” Danny croaked. He wet his lips and tried to continue. “Smells that aren’t… Touch. Warmth.”
“Red will get your teddy bear as soon as the meds are hooked up and we’ll work on the other things. One of us will always be here with you,” Nightwing said.
Danny squeezed his hand again.
“Okay. We won’t leave you alone, Danny, we’ll keep you safe. You’ll be okay.”
Danny trusted that.
It was surprising.
He didn’t think he could trust anymore, but Danny trusted that, trusted them.
The warmth of that thought followed him back into the black.
---
AN: This all Danny's fault, not mine! He decided to reveal his form early and then... welp.....
...Stay delightful, darlings?

“Well there’s a familiar face,” Remus greets with a smile as you step into the shop. You timidly smile back and wait for him to wave off a customer with their care kit before stepping forward with your heavy tote strung over your shoulder, “do you have an appointment for a tattoo or a piercing?” he asks, eyes trained on the tablet at the front desk.
“Oh, no no,” you bashfully stammer, “I’m not here for any of that, I’m scared of needles,”
“That’s a shame,” Remus contemplates and you look up to see him leaning over with a thoughtful look, his elbows on the counter as one hand holds his chin up - he’s so handsome. He has several piercings decorating his ears and an eyebrow piercing to accentuate the angles of his brows. As he moves his chin off his palm to caress it in contemplation, he continues to take you in as you also take the opportunity to admire some of the tattoos on his arms. There are some phrases in different fonts, an impressive vision of a wolf with a full moon and a minimalist set of the moon phases alongside much more, “you’d look good with cute little piercings on your ears,” he finally comments, reaching out to point at your ear.
“Th-thank you,” you subconsciously reach up and touch your ear, his statement making you briefly consider his suggestion.
“So what are you here for if not for a piercing or tattoo?” straightening up into his full height, Remus lets a light scowl take over his face, “Is that bastard troubling you again?”
“It’s alright, don’t worry, I told my manager and he’s been banned from the pub I work at so I haven’t had anymore bad encounters,”
Remus smiles at your precious appearance, you really look adorable being all timid in front of him, “I’m glad,” his voice is warm and comforting, different to the roughness brought on by the ink on his arms. He was dressed in a white shirt under a sleeveless brown sweater vest, high-waisted, tailored pants with the bottoms just about reaching his Doc Martens - he’s a good balance of soft but edgy. It’s a unique charm of his, you gather.
“I-I just wanted to say thank you to you guys,” you gesture to your tote bag, “so I made you some lunch, I hope that’s okay…”
“Free lunch, home cooked by the most beautiful lady I’ve ever seen?” Sirius interrupts, stealing your attention as he appears from a corridor to your left with a boyish grin. He reaches for your hand and brings your knuckles up to his lips for a soft kiss, “what an honour,”
Your cheeks heat up incredibly at the gesture, “it’s really nothing, you guys saved me last night, it’s the least I could do,”
Sirius smiles down at you and after sharing a look with Remus he begins to lead you down the same corridor he had just appeared from, “well, you have the most perfect timing, darling because it’s a slow day and almost our lunch break,”
“I’ll tell James and help him finish up with his last client for the day. We’ll see you in a bit,” Remus announces as he flips the sign at the door to ‘CLOSED’. You wanted to protest and say that you didn’t want to waste too much of their time but the mousy haired piercer smiled and that was enough reassurance for you to hold your tongue.
“Let’s go love,” Sirius leads you down a corridor to a room with rock posters and varying pieces of art decorating the wall as sofas lined half of the walls with varying aesthetics, one was very much distressed but still cosy looking, as the other was of a sleek, black leather. Thankfully, there was a pretty large coffee table that you could set your tote bag on and slowly began to take out the food you had cooked. On the distressed sofa behind you, Sirius admired your tentative figure and appreciated your stark difference in aesthetic to the room around you. Your style fits close to Remus although more feminine and carefree. There was a cosy structure to Remus’s fashion but with your long flowing white skirt, chiffon blouse and delicate jewellery, you embodied a breath of fresh air under the summer sun, “what a beauty,” Sirius says to himself, arms resting along the back of the sofa as you finally settled down.
Thinking he meant the food in the tupperware, you smile, “you like the food already?”
“I’m talking about you, darling, although the food does look delicious,” Sirius chuckles under his breath as you timidly tuck a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Th-thank you but really, I hope you like the food,”
“I’m sure I will,” silence slowly permeates the space between you as you wait for Remus and James but it was still comfortable, not awkward at all. In that time, you both take in each other’s appearance. Sirius wears a white tank that clings to his toned figure and ends just under his belly button, showcasing a majority of the tattoos that embellish his skin. He’s also in black jeans and a pair of worn combat boots. The tattoos on his arms and those that peak out from his torso and chest don’t have a visible theme but they all still go together somehow. There are many unknown symbols and long winded sentences written decoratively around said symbols and the occasional elaborate illustration. There are some doodles dedicated to music, some to inside jokes you would guess and you want to ask questions but you bite your tongue. You didn’t want to be rude.
“Curious?” Sirius asks, having noticed your wandering eyes and smiling at your kitten-like interest.
“A little bit…”
“Ask away,”
When James and Remus finally join the two of you a few minutes later, they see you fully turned towards Sirius on the sofa, eyes focused on a tattoo on his chest that he was explaining the meaning of, catching you in a trance with his voice. The tattoo artist has his tank top moved down and to the side as you absentmindedly reach your hand up to his tattoo, almost tracing the ink on his skin with your delicate fingers. From the grin on Sirius’s face and the love-eyes he was watching your face with, they could tell he was smitten with you, which was rare. Sirius was very much a ladies man but you’ve managed to rope him in with hardly any effort put in. Remus doesn’t blame his friend, though, you’re very captivating.
The chuckle from both Remus and James pulls your attention away from Sirius who smirks up at them, unbothered by their interruption.
“I heard a pretty lady was treating us to some home made lunch today,” James eagerly sits down in the space beside you as Remus sits atop the far right of the coffee table.
“Y-yeah, I hope you like it, please dig in,”
“Don’t mind if I do!” James cheers and promptly consumes his share of food, giving the occasional groan of satisfaction from the taste in his mouth, “Sho good!”
“Don’t speak with your mouth full,” Remus corrects with an amused smile before turning to your with an appreciative grin, “Thank you, truly, (Y/N), I was getting tired of take out,”
“Home cooking is the best,” Sirius groans from your other side, already half way through his share, which makes you giggle in happiness. Your heart swells with joy knowing that you could properly thank your heroes. Speaking off, you finally get to admire James in better lighting than the street lamps. He isn’t nearly as decorated with ink as Sirius but there was a pretty illustration of a stag on his forearm that you admired. You hadn’t wanted to feel awkward so you brought some lunch for you too and ate alongside the trio, stealing secret glances at James who remained oblivious, too engrossed in his food. He’s in much cosier attire compared to Srius and Remus. Hanging from his broad shoulders was an oversized, faded shirt and washed-out jeans with the bottoms rolled up to showcase his high converse shoes. Framing his face was a charming pair of round glasses and, matched with his unruly curls and tattoos, made him a pictured balance of casual and wild that suits only him.
Lunch passes and James was the first to finish between the trio, quickly proceeding to pull puppy eyes at his two friends in a soft plea for them to surrender some of their food to him but they firmly decline.
“I’m not letting you have some of my lunch just because you finished yours too quickly,” Sirius huffs, pulling his tupperware closer to him.
“Sorry Prongs,” Remus laughs, “those puppy eyes aren’t going to work on me, our dove’s cooking is too good to share,”
Unable to resist James’s pouting face, you hold up a spoonful of your meal, “it’s okay James,” you bring your spare hand to sit under the spoon and move it to James’s lips, “here, say ‘ahh’,”
With a boyish, golden-boy grin, James happily accepts the mouthful and moans in happiness, chewing away like a happy squirrel. Enjoying his glee so much, you happily feed him the rest of your lunch, saying that you were already far too full to eat any more so that Remus and Sirius didn’t scold James too much. It was partially true though because seeing James eating was enough to make you feel full already.
Once done, you set aside the tupperware and was completely unprepared for when James kissed your cheek as thanks for feeding him the rest of your lunch, “you’re too kind, angel, thank you,” he whispers into your ear, his breath brushing against your sensitive skin and sending a shiver down your spine. You could only muster a timid nod in response.
When lunch ended, casual conversations started which slowly divulged into the boys wanting to give you a temporary tattoo as thanks. You wanted to protest the redundancy of their actions but were quickly convinced by the verbal pleas of Sirius and James as Remus simply stared at you with interested eyes.
“What tattoo would you like, doll?” Sirius asks, smiling at your pondering face. You're far too cute for your own good.
“Surprise me!” you finally chirp, missing the roguish grin the three men share.
Not too long after, you were brought into a room with a computer connected to a specialised printer against one wall of the room. Remus and Sirius immediately move to prepare the temporary tattoo on the screen and set up the printer while James leads you to the tattoo bed in the middle of the room.
“This can fold into a chair but that’s a bit of a hassle right now, do you mind sitting on the bed instead?” James asks as you shake your head and reassure that it’s alright. He loves how compliant you are and watches for a moment as you struggle to get on the high bed before offering assistance, “May I?” his hands hesitates just before they reach your figure but you pay his touch no mind and nod, moving your hands to rest on his shoulders as he secures his hold on your waist. With a small countdown, James lifts you onto the tattoo table with hardly any effort.
Shuffling back, you smile up at James who remains taller than you on the table as he stands between your thighs, “Thank you, James,” the tattoo artist smiles when you say his name but frowns at the distance you’re sitting at the table.
“No worries sweetheart but you we need you a little closer than that,” without another word, James grips your thighs with his large hands and pulls you with some force to sit closer to the edge of the table, which also pulls a surprised squeal from your lips, “sorry sorry,” James chuckles softly his hands still on your thighs and shudders at your proximity when he looks down to see your skirt bundled up, accentuating how close your hips were to his. Stepping away, James tidies up your skirt as you giggle and thank him once more for his assistance. He smiles at you before being called over to the computer, trading places with Sirius.
“Where would you like your temporary tattoo, love?” he asks gently, opening a packet of sanitising wipes as the sound of the printer starts and whirrs in the background.
“Hmmm…even though it’s temporary I want it to be easily hidden,”
“Such a shy princess aren’t you?” Sirius comments with a smile, “it’s so cute,”
Ignoring his comment, you rush to think of the perfect place for the tattoo and distract from your racing heart, “how about here?” you point to your chest, just above your breasts and below your collarbone. Sirius immediately recognises the placement and raises an amused brow.
“Like my tattoo?”
You timidly smile, “yes please,”
“Very good choice,” Sirius praises playfully as pride swells within his chest, “but we need to get to that spot first, love,” you look down at your blouse and curse under your breath.
“Umm…” you try to pull down the collar but it was a small cut and the fabric resists. The temporary tattoo finishes printing and Remus approaches the table with James to see you struggling with your blouse.
“Where does she want it?” James asks as Remus carefully holds the small tattoo.
“Where mine was,” Sirius points to just below his collar bone, “but her blouse is in the way,”
Remus nods and approaches you, “that blouse is going to have to come off, dove,” his brown eyes watches you gnaw at your lip, it’s a hesitance he’s familiar with so he knows what to do, “don’t worry, you have nothing to be scared of, okay?” he gives you a warm smile when you look up at him and soon feel assured enough to untuck your blouse and pull it over your head, “good girl,” he praises with the same soft tone. You feel silly, these men give tattoos and pierce people’s skin, you’re sure that they’ve seen plenty of shirtless women in only their bras. Remus especially…he’s an expert piercer and has probably been asked to pierce lady parts that weren’t…very common.
“I’ve got to prepare your skin, love,” Sirius holds up the wipe and once you confirm exactly where you wanted the tattoo again, he wipes the area clean. Your skin is soft and slightly bouncy as it leads down to your breasts that makes the tattoo artist wipe at your skin a little longer than normal. After Sirius finishes prepping your skin and letting it dry, Remus steps up and applies the tattoo as best as he can without wrinkles. He swipes over the tattoo with his fingers and smiles at the handiwork. Beside him, Sirius and James admire the temporary ink, all three internally screaming at what you had let them ink you with.
“Wait a full hour before you peel off the applicator,” Remus gently instructs, “and try to avoid sweating or showering for the next 6 hours okay?” you nod and Remus pats your head in approval with a contented hum. You put your blouse back on and let James help you down, laughing brightly when he raises you up high and spins you in the air before he finally sets you down, laughing alongside you.
The boys still have a business to run so you collect your empty tupperware and wave the three goodbye before hurrying home, excited to see what tattoo they had given you as they were adamant at keeping it a surprise from you. When you finally arrived home and got a hold of a mirror, you examined the tattoo with your blouse off and felt your cheeks gradually heat up as you trace the differing fonts of the three names decorating the space beneath your collarbone.
Their names in their handwriting. James, Sirius, Remus.

Name Day
Tumblr media
Astarion x gn!reader
Summary: It's your name day. Astarion wants to do something special for you.
today is my birthday, so I figured I'd write something a little self-indulgent
Tumblr media
It’s your name day, and Astarion has been frantic
He doesn’t remember much about his life before Cazador, but he knows that birthdays are a big fucking deal for elves
And whether you’re an elf or not, he wants to do something. If you are an elf, it’s all the more important for him to celebrate accordingly.
He’s freaking out. What in the hells does he do for you? What in the hells can he get you?
He’s more than happy to buy you anything–he’s more than happy to steal you anything, but you have everything reasonable that you could want.
Nothing seems good enough for you. He knows that you’ll more than likely love whatever he ends up with, but that doesn’t mean he’s cutting himself any slack.
He’s so desperate that he goes to Gale. He’s got ideas, but he’s just a vampire with limited resources and limited nighttime hours. He knows when he’s at a disadvantage, and though he’s loathe to ask for help, he isn’t willing to fumble this.
So he convinces you to visit Waterdeep and to drop in on your wizard friend, who has insisted on numerous occasions that you’re more than welcome at his tower any time.
It takes a few days, but Gale does manage to enchant something for Astarion to gift you. The wizard had helped him plan it, and he’d basically had to create the enchantment from the ground up. It’s beautiful, and he absolutely cannot wait to give it to you.
The day of your birthday arrives, and you’re at your shared home in Bloomridge, in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate. The house–like many of the homes in the neighborhood–is built onto the side of the city wall. It’s small but not cramped, with a large, inviting kitchen, a cozy drawing room, and two bedrooms. Two balconies–one off the main bedroom, one off the drawing room–look out over the city and Grey Harbor.
Astarion is nervous, and he’s never been more glad to not have a heart, since it would probably give him away.
It’s evening. The two of you have just gotten up. You’re sitting out on the balcony, curled up on the outdoor settee. There’s a lantern hanging on a hook above you as you read. Astarion’s arm rests around your shoulders, a book clasped in his other hand. You’re nestled into his side, a barely held together ancient tome in your lap. Scratch lays on the ground in front of the settee, head on his paws.
A raucous laughter pierces through the foggy evening. Karlach and Lae’zel are the first to appear on the stairs.
Leave it to your merry band of misfits to disrupt the peace of your little neighborhood.
You’re off the couch and at the front door in a flash. Scratch gives a confused woof before trotting off after you. Astarion can hear you laughing as you let them all in.
By the time he can see you at the door, you’re being squeezed by Karlach. Gale stands, grinning, in the hall. Wordlessly, he nudges a package into Astarion’s hands.
Wyll has brought a cake. Lae’zel carries something that looks strangely like a sword wrapped in paper. Shadowheart has a little box.
As you lead them all in, Gale hands you a large bottle of Blackstaff wine.
You drink and laugh with these people who, over the course of only a few months, became your best friends. And as much as Astarion hates to admit it, he loves them for showing up for you.
Eventually, Karlach pushes you to open the presents they’ve brought.
As expected, Lae’zel has brought you a Githyanki sword, a traditional gift for warriors on their name days. Shadowheart has brought you a necklace that she’s blessed.
Astarion saves his for last, sliding it into your lap when you’re laughing at something Wyll has said, your voices all a little louder from the wine. You look at him, a little confused, but you tear the paper off anyway.
You’re even more confused when you discover six stone tablets and wooden styluses inside.
Gale takes pity on you, and picks one up, using the stylus to write ‘happy name day, tav’ on one of the slates. You gasp when it appears on the other five almost immediately.
“So you can talk with everyone when you need to,” Astarion explains. He hates how soft his voice sounds, but gods above, he put a lot of thought into this. He so desperately wants you to like it.
But his fears evaporate when you launch out of your chair, your arms wrapping around his neck in a tight hug.
He laughs and hugs you back, relieved that, for once, he could give you something nice, something you deserve, so that he could show you just how cared for you are.

I Couldn’t Have, I Was Playing Hopscotch with Hawkmoth
Felix slid into his seat next to Dupain-Cheng, wondering what would happen today.
It seemed that her new policy of dealing with Lila’s lies and the simultaneous ire of the class was to say whatever crazy thing popped into her head whenever they accused her of something. It had been rather entertaining, to say the least.
The first time she’d done it, their faces had been so comical that it had made Felix wish he’d brought his camera to school.
“Marinette! How could you shove Lila into the lockers?” Kim had stood in front of the crowd, his arms crossed in what was clearly meant to be an intimidating pose.
Marinette had looked up with a blank expression.
“I couldn’t have, I was playing hopscotch with Hawkmoth. He’s a really bad loser, so I had to leave before he had a full-on temper tantrum.” She had said it with the blandest tone he’d ever heard her use, which only added to the effect.
Everyone’s mouths had opened and closed like a fish’s, trying to figure out how to respond to her answer. It was obviously not true, but how did someone respond to that?
She’d held Kim’s gaze, no trace of amusement on her face.
It had worked exactly how he suspected she intended; they hadn’t managed to come up with anything before Bustier had come back in the room, breezily instructing everyone to turn to page 294 in their textbooks.
The next time, it seemed that they had come a little better prepared, allowing Alix to lead the charge. She was notorious for having a witty retort to everything, so it made sense. Unfortunately, Marinette had also come with a plan.
“Marinette! Care to tell us why you sabotaged Lila’s project in the art room?”
Marinette had held up a finger, digging in her backpack. The class had watched with interest, as this was the first reaction that hadn’t been outright hostile or bland.
She’d pulled out her tablet and typed something before turning it around.
Can’t talk. I lost my voice after too much yelling at the heavy metal concert I went to last night.
Alix had blinked at the idea of sugar-sweet Marinette attending a heavy metal concert, but recovered quickly. “Ok, so type out why you destroyed her project!”
Some more typing, then a response. Couldn’t have, I was helping scientists extract DNA from mosquitoes in amber to make dinosaurs.
“That’s the plot of Jurassic Park!”
Where do you think they got the idea from?
Alix had stared for a moment more before throwing up her hands. “This is useless, she’s clearly gone off the deep end!” She’d stormed out, leaving the rest of the class behind, unsure of what to do now that they’d lost their ringer.
Again, Bustier had made the decision of what to do for them, coming in with a reminder of the worksheet they had due at the end of class.
Needless to say, Felix believed that this was a very good use of her creative mind. Watching her outsmart the idiots of the class in her own way was endlessly amusing and had quickly become his favorite part of the day.
Today, before the daily confrontation, Bustier had assigned them a project, a partner project with their deskmate. For Felix, that was Marinette. Since they’d been working on the project all day, Lila hadn’t had the chance to leave and lie about anything, pushing the confrontation to likely after the lunch break. Felix could hardly wait to see what she said this time. Maybe this project would allow him to get to know and understand her better.
“So for the project I was thinking that we make a PowerPoint-” Marinette cut herself off, staring at him with a puzzled expression. “You’re almost smiling at me. Are you feeling alright?”
Felix immediately wiped his expression, mildly mortified that he’d outwardly shown his amusement, but forged ahead. “I see you got your voice back. Was the heavy metal worth it?”
“What? Oh, that. I’m fine.”
“Oh, I know. Your recent interactions with the class have been thoroughly entertaining.”
“Glad you’ve been enjoying it. Confusion is certainly better than outright hostility.” She sighed, suddenly looking very tired.
“It’s about time that you started retaliating, even if it’s just by scrambling the two collective brain cells they have left. I don’t know that I could’ve put up with Rossi’s bullshit for as long as you have with the patience you’ve had.”
Her eyes snapped to him. “You know she’s lying?”
He scoffed. “Please, don’t insult my intelligence like that. Of course I know she’s lying.”
Marinette was silent. He could almost see the burden on her shoulders getting lighter with the realization she wasn’t alone in knowing Rossi was a liar and was about to comment further on it when Marinette smiled. It was a mischievous smile that promised trouble, which immediately intrigued Felix. He hadn’t seen much of her troublemaker side except for the few glimpses from her last interactions with the class, but he had a feeling there was one hell of a wicked streak somewhere underneath that cotton candy.
“You wanna help?”
He considered for a moment. Was it worth getting involved in? On one hand, it was enjoyable to just be merely a spectator. On the other hand, he wanted to know more about this side of Marinette and it was always enjoyable to see idiots put in their place.
“I’m in.”
- - - - - -
After school, Felix and Marinette were at their desk, waiting for the confrontation.
And like a bad penny, the class came back to try again. It seemed that they were shuffling who was leading the ‘Marinette how dare you’ brigade, and this time they had chosen Adrien. Felix knew about her crush on him, so he supposed that it was a rather strategic move on their part, if he wasn’t able to see the barely hidden disdain for the boy on her face.
“Marinette, you know that it wasn’t kind of you to throw Lila’s backpack down the stairs while she was in the cafeteria. That’s not the everyday Ladybug we all know and love.”
Ah, the guilt trip method. Usually foolproof on someone as empathetic as Marinette, rendered useless by Marinette’s developing apathy towards the class.
“It must’ve been someone else. I spent the lunch break teaching Mr. Ramier’s pigeons how to moonwalk. I wouldn’t have gotten back in time if Felix hadn’t realized the time and dragged me back.”
“Now, Marinette, don’t lie about it.”
“I’m not. Felix?”
Felix nodded, pulling up a video on his phone and showing it to the class. In it, Marinette stood next to some pigeons, clearly demonstrating how to moonwalk. The pigeons looked on curiously, occasionally pecking at her shoes and awkwardly waddling backwards. Mr. Ramier sat in the background, alternately cheering or throwing birdseed to the pigeons. The video clearly had the timestamp of about ten minutes before their break ended, so they would’ve had to rush to get back to class. There was no way they could’ve done anything.
Marinette looked back at Adrien and folded her arms. “Well? I’ll take my apology now.”
Felix snorted at the flabbergasted expression on Adrien’s face, casually putting his arm over Marinette’s shoulders. He didn’t really know why he did it, only that it felt right. Apparently she didn’t mind, since she just readjusted to be a bit more comfortable. “Give him a minute, he’s rebooting.”
“Wait, are the two of you dating?” He blurted out, then immediately looked like he regretted it.
This time, Marinette snorted. “Because the only reason he’d support me was if he was my boyfriend? No, that’s what friends are meant to do, Adrien.” The last sentence was laden with poison that Felix didn’t know the context for, but Adrien did, because he flinched.
“I’m sorry,” he muttered, turning away.
As soon as the class turned away, her head fell on his shoulder, her face crumpling in pain. He didn’t know what to do but hug her shoulders tighter. He’d seen that her love language was physical touch, so maybe it would help? After a while, her face smoothed and she lifted her head, seemingly doing better.
“Hey, thanks for backing me up.”
Felix shrugged. “It was fun.”
She turned to look at him. “No, I’m serious. It’s been a long time since anyone’s had my back, even if it’s just to mess with someone. Thank you.”
Why did he suddenly feel all warm inside? “So what’s the next plan?”
Marinette looked surprised. “You want to be involved in the next one?”
“Sure, why not?”
She looked away, her cheeks turning a light pink. “Maybe we could, well, I don’t know, I don’t want you thinking that I’m just saying this because Adrien said it because I promise I’m really not, but maybe we could, um, discuss it on a date?”
“But we hardly know each other.” What did she see in him that she liked? Sure, he’d helped her once, but that was hardly grounds for someone liking someone, was it?
“That’s the point of the date. To get to know someone. Besides, I want to see if you’re as nice as I suspect you are under that prickly exterior.” She was looking at him again, cheeks now a bright red, but with determination in her eyes.
Well, hadn’t he wanted to get to know her better too? “Sure.”

femmes en colère | carmen berzatto
when carmen's former head chef shows up, it may be your rage or the pregnancy hormones causing you to walk over to him ─ 844 ─ fem/afab!reader, pregnant!reader, reader yelling at his former head chef, some cursing
ʚɞ
You were the nicest person Carmen Berzatto had ever met. Ever since you and him met, you had been the calmest, sweetest girl he could have ever met. And ever since you'd gotten pregnant nearly six months ago, he started seeing you differently. The pregnancy hormones brought out a more attractive yet angrier side of you.
It was the busiest night of the Bear so far, and from the second Carmy came back into the kitchen from his brief appearence in the dining room, he's got tears in his eyes. Hands nervously shaking his hands at his sides as he takes deep breaths.
You're perched near Natalie as she holds a tablet in front of you, talking over some details with you. Both of your eyes are drawn to Carmy as you (lightly) shove her away, making your way over to your distraught husband. "Are you okay?" You ask, though you think you know the answer. But his shaking of his head confirms that. "Sugar, take him into the office. Get him some water." You direct as Natalie does so.
You walk over to Richie, whose staring at the dining room area. There, sat at one of the booths, is Carmy's former head chef. His image engraved from the time Carmy showed you an article he was mentioned in.
"Shit. Why is he here?" Richie asks, his voice low. You shake your head. "Hell no. Not tonight, uh-uh. Take over the table orders, make sure Carmen's okay." You say, as you shove open the doors. Smoothing out your hair and dress, you walk over to the table the chef is sat at. "Hi there. My name is Y/N Berzatto, I'm the chef's wife. I am just such a huge fan, do you mind if I sit?" You ask, rubbing your stomach.
The man smiles. "Take a seat. I'm shocked Carmen has a wife. And a child on the way it appears." He comments. You laugh. "Oh, you know he is such a good guy. You must have been the best teacher, he tells me you're really smart." You say, a smile on your face.
"Oh, well thank you, I tried with-"
"Yeah, so I really don't understand how you think it's acceptable to show your face here after the hell you put my husband through." Your smile then drops.
Carmen steps out of the office, a hand running through his hair. "Where's my wife?" He asks, fearing the answer. Richie watches from the door, and when there's no answer, Carmy steps over to it, beginning to watch you. They open it a little, just enough to overhear the conversation.
"Should we stop her?" Richie asks.
"No, no, I wanna see how this goes." Carmen answers.
The chef stares at you, almost in disbelief. "Excuse me? Who the hell are you to talk to me like this?!"
"I''m the wife of the chef who was put through emotional torture by you. Do you actually believe it is acceptable to 'teach' people through methods of verbal abuse? You told him he'd be better off dead, did you think he'd forget that by morning?" You question as you lean forward. "Or maybe you were under the impression I'd forget he told me that, or that I'd forget his face. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't do this to every person whose insulted Carmen because I wouldn't have a chance to rest, right? But I don't despise those people."
"I don't appreciate-"
"All due respect, I don't give a damn what you appreciate. I don't care if you appreciate my tone or don't appreciate my attitude. I know the staff back there, don't appreciate what you put him through. I almost didn't come out here but you better be glad it's me and not his crazed family. They're really scary some times, even worse then me right now, if you can believe." You smile, exhaling as you stand up. "I hope you enjoy your meal, sir. I'm sure the chef would love all the positive comments you have to give." You turn, walking back into the kitchen.
You can hear the faintest "bitch" come out of him, and as soon as you're turning to go at him again, Carmen and Richie are suddenly pulling you off. They pull you back into the kitchen, as you exhale. "I really don't like that guy." You mumble.
"Are you okay?" Carmy asks. You nod, pulling him into a hug. "Are you?" You question in return as he laughs. "If that's how you react everytime he's around, I will be. Those pregnancy hormones are something else."
"Yeah, I'm actually kind of scared to piss you off now." Richie comments as you smile. "Aw, I could never hurt you, Richie!" You say as you turn, going back over to Natalie. She grins. "You really are something else, I may use you as my new backup." She says.
Carmen watches you as Richie stands beside him. "You're scared of her too, right?" He asks softly.
"Scared shitless." He answers before going back to work.

Not All That Glitters is Gold Part 5
Hello! This story is coming along nicely and we're getting close to Eddie's reveal.
Steve goes on a roller coaster of emotions in this one. We get a peek on how even in one week that he could have a bad time and then a good time. And Robin is the bestest friend a boy could have.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
@mira-jadeamethyst @rozzieroos @itsall-taken @redfreckledwolf @emly03
****
Steve unlocked the door to the alphas’ apartment and let himself in. He had everything setup in mere minutes. He changed into the outfit he would be wearing. It started with the lacy underwear. Just a shade more pink than white. Tasteful but sexy.
Then chinos and polo. No belt. It was an extra item of clothing that would get in the way later. The polo was pink. A bright baby pink. He tamped down on the feelings of disgust at the stereotype. He had a job to do and he would do it well. A pair of loafers that would be able to be kicked off later.
Steve was practically seething when his clients walked through the door. Not only were they not dressed in similar attire, they were dressed in the exact opposite. They were punks. Both men were in ripped jeans, sheer tank tops and a shit ton of metal and leather jewelry. Kyle had the side shaved ‘do with it dyed bright red. Monty had a neon green mohawk.
But they had specifically asked for him to be in the polo and chinos. He was upset that they didn’t fully explain that the fantasy wasn’t about a regular threesome. No...it was about them fucking a prep.
Steve straightened up on the inside, all steel spine and iron core. On the outside, his shoulders rounded, his features softened, and he went full tilt diva.
Kyle and Monty licked their lips in anticipation.
It started slow. Hands and feet rubbing against Steve’s body over his clothes at dinner. Wine and loose limbs as those same hands slipped under his clothes.
Dessert was chocolate dipped strawberries as Kyle and Monty made out, using Steve as catalyst. Hands and mouths roamed as they finally made it to the bedroom.
Sex was searing hot and just this side of gentle romance. Once they were done and out cold, Steve got dressed and slipped out under the cover darkness, Robin and Xander cleaned up after Steve and gathered all the things he brought with him.
And only when they had pulled away from the curb and started for home did Steve relax.
“I want them on the blacklist,” Steve bit out. “And I want homemaker removed from my list of roleplays. I refuse to do it from now on.”
Robin quickly and quietly did as she was told. She would have asked if it was any other time, but she had known going in that this very thing could be the consequence.
“You’ll be happy to know that the gang bang has been cancelled,” she said in lieu of asking.
Steve turned to her slowly. “What do you mean?”
“Apparently the lead singer got wind of the gang bang and threw a fit,” she said pulling up the email on her tablet. “He did not consent to such a thing and neither did any of the other members in the band.”
He winced. “Ouch. I wonder why the manager thought they would go along with it in the first place.”
Robin rubbed her lower lip with her finger. “My guess?” Steve nodded. “I think this manager was hoping to get in on the action himself and write it off on his taxes as a business expense.”
“Gross,” Steve muttered. “Well I’m glad the singer caught on before I went to the gang bang and it got awkward fast.”
She nodded. “So you’ll have plenty of time to recover from tonight before Lenny’s rut.”
He breathed out a sigh of relief. “I think I’m just experience a rash of bad luck lately. I can’t wait for Lenny’s rut. It’ll be nice to have a nice routine session without all of this drama.”
Robin couldn’t help but agree.
****
Steve relaxed the minute he got into Lenny’s presence. The comedian was still cognizant enough to be laughing and joking the minute he walked through the door.
Slowly as Lenny slipped into the mindlessness of the rut, Steve grew more confident. This was what he was made for. The alpha’s brain turned to fucking the pretty omega and he preened under the attention.
The possessive growling, the scenting, and the burying his cock into Steve’s body was like a dream. He didn’t have to guide Lenny like he had to with Dillon. Lenny’s body knew what to do. What it wanted. And what it wanted in that moment, was Steve. Nothing but Steve.
Steve had gotten up to make them something to eat as Lenny’s rut had ebbed for the moment. He had pulled on a pair of shorts and had padded out to the kitchen.
That was another reason he loved Lenny. Since he was an older alpha his moments of clarity lasted long enough to make full meals instead of trying to shove calories into the raging alpha as quickly as possible.
He felt arms wrap around him and chin hook over his shoulder.
“You know I don’t like it when I wake up and you’re not there, Steve,” Lenny rumbled against his back.
Steve chuckled. “My apologies, alpha. I thought I had a few more minutes. I was going to bring you breakfast in bed.”
Lenny scented along Steve’s chin. “Such a good omega,” he rumbled. “Good enough to eat.” He nibbled on Steve’s earlobe.
Steve full on laughed at that. “Still in the rut then. That joke was terrible.”
Lenny laughed too. “What’s for breakfast, then?”
“Your favorite,” he murmured, fighting the urge to let Lenny have his way with him on the kitchen counter. He could feel the heat from the alpha radiating into his bones. “Full English breakfast, complete with tomatoes and black pudding.”
Lenny cooed. “You know how to treat a bloke.” He reluctantly pulled away from Steve, who immediately missed the warmth.
He filled up two plates and carried them over to the table. He pulled out Steve’s chair and let him sit first.
“This is divine, Stevie,” he murmured after he took his first bite.
Steve preened under the attention. He was a good cook. Not because of his job, but in spite of it. Most of the time he didn’t have the time to fix full meals, relying on protein shakes and bars, fruit snacks and smoothies, to get as much nutrition in in the shortest amount of time.
So he learned to cook for himself and for clients like Lenny who’s ruts were more spread out so that they could enjoy a fine meal or two. Watching Lenny savor every bite was well worth the time Steve had taken to learn the skill.
He didn’t have time to clean up, unfortunately as Lenny’s rut came back in full force toward the end of their meal.
He casually picked Steve up and tossed him over his shoulder to Steve’s absolute delight.
Lenny kicked the door shut behind him and flopped Steve down on the bed.
Steve’s inner omega trilled in anticipation as the alpha advanced on him, the dark earthy smell of a field after the rain enveloping Steve’s senses.
That scent would be all he knew for the next couple of days. Not once did Lenny’s scent turn sour like he had known with other alphas. Steve wasn’t sure if it was because Lenny was older or if it was because Steve was genuine friends with the alpha, but it was always a pleasure spending his rut together.
“Always a joy,” Lenny said as he watched Steve pack up.
Steve grinned and came over and kissed the alpha on the lips. “It is for me, too.”
The alpha growled playfully. “Are you sure the tickets are the only favor I can do for you?”
“I’ll let you know if there is anything else,” Steve cooed.
Lenny laughed. “Go on, get!”
Steve wiggled his ass as he sauntered out of the comedian’s apartment.
****
Robin walked into the suite and found a note on the counter next to an envelope.
“Stop procrastinating!
Ask her out! Lenny gave me two tickets on the front row. Not center. But close enough that Vickie could count his freckles.
I know you used my news about Nancy and Jonathan’s coming pup to chicken out last week.
You have no more excuses. She wants to go out with you!
-Steve”
She let out a huff of laughter. She opened the envelope and sure enough there were the tickets she had jokingly asked for for Vickie’s birthday.
She looked down the hall where she knew Steve would be sleeping off the rut and smiled fondly. She loved her best friend.
She grabbed his duffle bag and threw the clothes into the laundry. She then made a list of the things he used up on this job and put it up on the fridge for Steve to see.
Robin then opened the drapes and the doors to the terrace so that Steve would be woken up to soft natural light.
Then she sat down and started going through Steve’s schedule. Sometimes he was booked several weeks in a row, sometimes he didn’t have anything until two or three days before an event.
That was the nature of the job. She personally liked it when there wasn’t anything for Steve to get ready for. She knew he liked his job and did it well, but there were times where she thought he was just trying to fill the silence in his head with sex.
When he got like that she made sure to schedule dinners with friends and soulmate days. To show him he was more than just a hole to be fucked.
Thankfully Lenny Goodwin was the perfect antidote to Steve feeling used. Lenny liked Steve. They hung out outside of Lenny’s ruts. Steve went to his comedy shows all the time and they got along great.
The only reason Lenny didn’t buy Steve’s contract is that there were just too many times when Lenny would be on tour out of the country. And he didn’t want to drag any omega through that, let alone one as social as Steve was.
Robin rubbed her chin thoughtfully. Steve’s breakdown about not being able to have pups got her brain whirling. She wanted to help him the best that she could. And if that meant finding an alpha who would want to buy Steve’s contract because they adored Steve, then so be it.
She exited out of Steve’s schedule and pulled up Steve’s client list. His regulars.
She immediately crossed out any who had attempted to buy Steve’s contract in the past. She knew they were only looking for sex slaves. She narrowed down the ones that had a variety of things they requested from Steve.
Ones that only wanted rut servicing or just arm candy for events got crossed off, too. They weren’t interested in Steve as a person, just an omega to look pretty or fill a need.
Robin chewed on her thumb as she went through the list and found that she had crossed off every one of Steve’s clients.
She tossed her tablet to the side with a huff. This was harder than she thought it would be.
Theoretically she knew she had the time. Steve was still young. He was barely twenty-eight. Way too early to think about retirement, really. But on the other hand she worried what would happen to her best friend the longer he went without finding that connection.
She looked at the tickets and sighed. He was right about that, though. She was procrastinating.
Robin picked her phone and dialed Vickie’s number.
“Hey, darling,” she cooed into her phone. “Your birthday is coming up and I wanted to do something special. Just the two of us.”
She smiled wide. “Yeah, baby. A date.”
She held the phone from her ear as Vickie squealed her excitement. She could worry about her best friend later, right now?
She’s got a date to plan.

Insatiable Madness (4)
|Sagau Yandere Fatui Harbingers x Reader|
Thank you all for the continuous support!
I'm finding it so hard to keep the characters acting how they would in the game...
Also I'm a bit nervous to post this since I'm not feeling confident.
Reader is Gender Neutral!
Tumblr media
"Pierro, I think we're attracting unwanted attention." Columbina whispered to the older male, her face unchanging.
He didn't reply, he continued to watch the doctor walk around and look for the Decider.
"Dottore, do you even know what they look like?" Scaramouche asked the man.
"I may or may not have discovered this problematic issue."
Meanwhile, you were in line with your family waiting for your turn to order at the desk.
Your aunt didn't bring her card, so now you all had to physically go to the desk instead of order at one of the tablets.
While your aunt was fiddling with her purse, you were eyeing the Dottore cosplayer walking around the room.
He seemed to be looking for something... or someone...
You wanted to walk up to him, you really did. However, you were with your family right now.
You couldn't just leave them and help someone you wanted to be friends with.
"Y/N! I've been calling your name for the past 5 minutes." Your aunt snapped her fingers in front of your eyes.
"Sorry, sorry, what did you want?" You blinked, focusing your eyes on her.
"I was asking what you wanted, we're next in line." She pointed, the teenagers in front of you grabbing their ticket from the cashier.
"Speaking of which, we're now being served."
Damn it, you were so focused on the cosplayer you didn't decide on what to order!
Hmm, a cheeseburger does sound good... and certainly smells good too.
"Just decide for me." You sighed to yourself, fumbling with your fingers.
"WHAT!? This is so unlike you! ...For your courtesy to my wallet, I'll buy you an extra milkshake."
"Yay."
The Harbingers regrouped at the entrance of the building.
"Dottore, what's our next plan?" Capitano questioned, moving further away from gazes passed at him.
"I'd personally like to leave public view as soon as possible, I think I'm the main problem."
"You could never be the problem, Captain!" Childe smiled.
"Fucking brown noser." Scaramouche scoffed.
"Shut up, balladeer! We all know it's your hat that's attracting attention!"
"Would you two stop arguing like children!" Pulcinella raised his voice, Childe backing away.
"Right, so I'm the child." The Balladeer scoffed, his arms folded as he looks away.
"Do you want extra time in the abyss once we return to Teyvat?" Pierro threatened.
"I'd love that extra time, anywhere away from the fucking man that brought us here is pleasant enough."
"Of course you'd say that." He shook his head in annoyance.
"Dottore, what's our next plan?" Pantalone asked him.
"I have an idea! Let's just kill everyone to attract their attention." Childe suggested.
"Absolutely not, I'm not looking to dirty my hands here." Signora shut him down.
"Tartaglia's idea isn't a bad one." Dottore thought out loud.
"Excuse me?" Sandrone gaped. "How is causing mass-murder an acceptable idea?"
Dottore paused, looked around him, then continued.
"It hurts my intellect to admit this, but we don't have any other options."
"Dottore is right, we can't miss this chance. Who knows when they'll leave the building." Pantalone nodded.
"Additionally, I don't feel like walking much further."
It was decided.
"Well then, comrades, let's dance. I'm glad you all see my way for once."
You were sitting in a dirty ass toilet stall which probably hasn't been cleaned in weeks.
Fiddling with the phone in your hand, you curse to yourself quietly when your Childe still wasn't working.
Okay, it's clearly not your computer that's the issue.
You were about to leave the stall, when all of a sudden you heard screams outside.
Did... Did a celebrity walk through the door or something?
You walked out of the stall, washed your hands and peaked through the main door.
...
Blood. Blood was everywhere. It was splattered across the windows, the stools, the food, the corpses.
The smell was awful. Iron filled your nostrils, making you gag.
You shook with fear, stepping back slightly.
What happened while you were gone!? More importantly, where was your family!?
You wanted to check, but you didn't know if it was safe.
Oh, of course! 999 is usually the number you call in these situations... right? They'll be able to help!
You shut the main door slowly, and ran back to the bathroom stalls.
You quickly dialed the number, and put your phone up to your ear.
"999, what's your--"
"Please, help me, help the people! I don't know what happened." You whispered harshly, hearing footsteps behind the bathroom door.
"Calm down, love... Take deep breaths and explain what's going on." The elderly voice behind the phone calmly warned.
"My... My family. We went to a fast food place for lunch, I went to the toilet. I come back, and... everyone in the entire facility is laid on the floor with blood surrounding them!"
"Did you see anyone out there alive? Perhaps the murderer?"
"No! I ran back inside the toilet in fear! Ohh, I hope my family are safe..."
"Alright, sweetie. Here's what we're going to do. I need you to tell me where you are, and to follow my instructions. From the sound of your situation, you'll need paramedics and police?"
"Yes, yes! Anything that can help! I--"
You heard the bathroom door open.
"I'm fucking checking the room now!" You heard a voice yell. "That damned doctor..."
You felt yourself slowly climb on top of the toilet, hiding your feet from view.
"Hello...? Is everything alright?" You heard the woman on the phone.
When the woman spoke, the footsteps paused.
You couldn't breathe, you were terrified. You could feel your hands shaking, the phone in your grip becoming increasingly heavy.
"There's someone in here!" You heard the male voice shout.
So, there's more than one murderer... who would do this? Who would have the conscience to murder these people in cold-blood?
That's not important. Right now, you had to find an escape.
"_____ ___ _______," You whispered your location. "send help..."
You hung up the phone and frantically looked around the stall for something to defend yourself with.
It's clear to you that you're dead meat. One wrong decision and you're dead. You had to survive until the police arrived.
The footsteps began to move again, you could see sandals when you peaked under the door.
You heard a knock from the other side.
"Listen here, and listen here closely. We've got you surrounded, you can't escape." The voice started.
"If you don't show yourself in 5 seconds, I'm ripping this weak door and showing you to The Doctor." He threatened.
"5..."
What do you do!?
"4..."
They'll kill you!
"3..."
Dottore? Are the cosplayers behind this?
"2..."
This is sick, everything about this is making you sick. Move legs, MOVE!
"1."
BANG!
Tumblr media
I want to bring the series into an entirely different direction. I'm going to try and make things quite dark, if possible.
Like I said earlier, I am a very bad writer. The aim of writing these situations is for practice and to see what I'm good at and what I'm bad at.
If anyone has any critiques for me, please tell me if you're comfortable with sharing!
Despite my plans being fucked up, I want to have fun with it!
Tumblr media
Please don't expect too many happy, nice and generally fluffy scenes.
This is Yandere, a genre which should never, under any circumstance be considered normal. It's abusive, unhealthy and leads to a lot of victims facing awful conditions which they never should or ever have to endure no matter who they are.
This is fiction that I'm writing, meaning it's all taken light-heartedly IN A FICTIONAL SENSE.
If anyone, by chance, is currently in conditions where a loved-one or yourself has suddenly become distant and/or being hurt when away from eyes please get help. Talk to them, or if it's you, talk to someone you know you can trust.
If you can't talk to anyone, find authorities who can help you. Call 999, as it is in the U.K, or your local emergency service. They will always help you, and will never deny your rights or freedom.
Thanks for reading this, I hope all who's reading knows this information already, but I thought I'd include it since who knows when it comes to where you are in the world and whether your education programs taught critical information like this.

“That guy is my pookie, so stop touching him—!”
Tumblr media
Pairings: Multiple Characters X GN! Reader.
Tumblr media
Warnings: Unwanted affections, discomfort, etc.
-*-
RIDDLE was aversed by the event, he doesn't know what he should do, he shouldn't lash out at them. He disliked it, being interacted by a stranger unfamiliar to him. They were seemingly intent on speaking to him. Curse his situation, it wasn't good for him. Before he becomes any more uncomfortable, your voice pulled him back to reality when you then rushed to him. The red head scrambled to call you over and get away. He looked okay mostly, except with him forgetting to compose himself as he took your hand into his. Cuddle him and he will be in a pleasant mood!
LEONA could care less or doesn't notice in the beginning since he was taking care of his nephew. He has instinct, yeah sure, but he wasn't always paying attention to his environment, he was keen on waiting for you to arrive from your shopping items and whatnot. So there was someone, they presumably? Asking questions to him, and he was a jerk he usually was to anyone, he didn't answer back to them. And that escalated when they were hitting on him! Needless to say, he was somewhat glad that you showed up before he beat them into a pulp or worse with his hands...
AZUL was smiling maliciously at them. Oh my, what a stupi- he meant fearless individual, one does not hop away unscathed after it. Do boundaries mean nothing to them? How sorrowful! I think he can dissolve this himself, and like Riddle, he doesn't enjoy physical contact too much from nameless civilians in particular. A pity that Jade and Floyd was at Mostro Lounge today, he adjusted his glasses in a thoughtful manner as he pondered about this. How will he resolve it? His train of thoughts was intercepted by your appearance, you drove them away shortly and checked on him.
KALIM was oblivious, he was too nice to understand it, he did keep his distance because he was going on a date with you. And you were looking forward to it as he does! He blanched and shoved them away the minute they attempted to kiss his lips. And by a miracle, you popped out sooner than he anticipated, shielding him behind you as you scolded them and threatened them to leave or else, you whisked your phone out and said you informed the headmaster of their crimes, and they'll be facing consequences. The grin on your boyfriend was ear to ear as he thanked you.
VIL was having a headache, he should have expected it, as if school work wasn't a chore, he had to be worrying about this? You weren't there yet, so he will have to settle it himself, you can be scary if you have to be after all. And him as a renowned celebrity can put you in a tight spot, so he doesn't want that to occur. His vice was at his dormitory, Rook wasn't there with him, what a great time for him, he thought sarcastically to himself. His fortitude can't be that generous with his dilemma, to imagine how you ran straight in to rant at them for him. How gallant of you.
IDIA was screeching internally, he couldn't believe it, why would anyone t-t-talk to him??? He was not happy, this was why he was against coming out of Ignihyde, he should have brought Ortho with him. Because he was out of place and eek..! W-what?! Did they flirt with him? This was weird, he cannot handle this anymore. The almond shaped eyes dorm leader was gripping his tablet like it was his hope. Prefect, where were you? Fortunately for him, you were back from your exploration and headed to him. Much to his relief, they were gone when you gave an energy drink to him.
MALLEUS was fazed by it. Confusion and dread vibrated in his mind. Was this ordinary for humans? The fae was disturbed, more so abhorred with the overwhelming senses of anxiousness as he moved away. He doesn't wish to seem radical. So he resorted to cautioning them to not pet him like that with firmness instead. You were done with your groceries, and walked toward him and it dawned on you what was happening with him. His gaze landed on your form, and the housewarden of Diasomnia beckoned you. Although it made him unnerved, you were there to cheer him up.

Ello I absolutely love your fics and that you write x black readers (istg no one does)
let's say Miguel the reader have a daughter and he tries to do her hair
hi ml, im so glad you enjoy my writing and yeah its so hard to find black reader stuff so yk i had to take it into my own hands but anyways the suggestion is soooo cuteee 🥺🥺🥺
everyone and their mother knew that Miguel was going to knock you up as soon as you guys had gotten married and were financially stable enough. he made that fact clear to everyone who'd listen. so when you gave birth to your baby girl 3 years ago, it only made sense that he was over joyed. Your daughter had inherited your eyes and lips but his hair colour and nose shape, ultimately creating the perfect combination of the both of your looks. however, it didn't help that both you and your husband were both as stubborn and hard headed as the next and it was made clear that your daughter had gotten that from the both of you.
there's no denying her stubborn and spoilt nature especially when it comes to her doing her hair. it was Miguel's turn to do his princess's hair on this fine Tuesday morning before dropping her off at nursery. he had the rat tail comb, the eden hair brush, the blue magic hair cream and the gummy wax to lay her edges. everything but his daughter. he tiredly descended down the stairs to find you and your daughter prancing around the kitchen to a dancehall mix you had made the other day. "there are my girls," Miguel walks in, hands wide open to welcome you and your small child. "daddy!" your baby cried before running to her father in her freshly ironed school uniform and polished school shoes. "hi baby," he said, stroking her hair. "hey pretty, sleep well?" he walks up to you before kissing you forehead in affection. you nod in contentment and sigh.
"come on baby, we have to do your hair before school," Miguel whispered half expecting his daughter to throw a tantrum. instead, she simply faced away and waddled towards the toy box to get her favourite toy. "princess. we are not doing this again," Miguel said sternly. doing his daughters hair was a constant battle. even just to brush it and put it into a puff is a pain let alone cornrowed hair styles. he sighed in distress. he didn't even know what hair style to give her yet but if worse gets to worse, he'll have to go plain and simple. he internally cursed himself for being too hot-headed and impulsive, but it was too late now. time was ticking, and his baby had to get to school on time today.
Miguel whisked his daughter away from the toy box, not having time for her shanigins today. he sat her down on the chair and brought out the comb. his daughter's eyes became glossy and her pout had reached the floor at that point, but before she could open her mouth to yell and scream for her mother, he put her tablet in front of her with bubble guppies playing in the background. she quickly quietened down, and reduced her attitude to mere sniffles as the man began oiling her hair. he decided to give her to twist on either side with pink bobbles hanging off the end. he parted her hair in the middle with the pink comb, stifling a giggle as she flinched every time the comb touched her scalp. he then brushed out her hair, being careful as to not yank on it too hard. after about 15 minutes of trying his hardest to not trigger his child, he was done.
Miguel wasn't always that good at doing his daughter's hair. he couldn't even do his own. but with patience and your help, it quickly became a stress reliever for him. knowing exactly what products to use and when and even the different hair types, sometimes offering to help you do your hair. although it was hard for him to adjust to, he did it and you couldn't be prouder. your daughter, however, remained tender headed and ever so stubborn so doing her hair was never a bore.
she quickly hopped off the seat and wandered off to the nearest mirror where she gawked at her hair in awe. she did a twirl, playing with the hem of her skirt while her other hand held her tablet. "thank yuh, daddy," she beamed. Miguel smiled. his daughter being happy made him happy. he watched as she went to show off to her mother. "wow! daddy did such a great job, baby,"

How do you think George & Arthur would react to their girlfriend having an off day and being a bit emotional?
I feel like Arthur especially would be such a sweetheart about it 🥴
ohhh absolutely! he'd be the softest boyfriend. :((((
A R T H U R
arthur has a sixth sense.
he likes to pride himself on knowing when his girlfriend is having a bad day, knowing when his girlfriend feels ill, knowing when she just needs some comfort and some love without her asking for it verbally or delving deep into her feelings. he never goes digging for answers... he always lets her take her time, lets her enjoy the comfort he gives to her, lets her tell him on her own terms.
sometimes, he can tell through her texts.
when she gives him short answers, when she takes a while to send a text back to him, when she misses the 'x' at the end. when she gets to the point, when she's straight with him, not double-texting him... or even triple-texting.
sometimes, though, it's just a gut feeling.
and it's usually around that time of the month where all she wants is to feel warmth, love and comfort from those close to her. knowing that she caves in on herself when she first starts, when she feels the cramps begin, and all she wants is to be looked after without needing to ask him to grab her tampons or pads or sweet treats that she craves. to which he complies, of course.
he doesn't care how silly he looks when he's on the tube, with a bag in his hand that was full with boxes of tampons and pads, alongside an unusual amount of chocolate for one person and paracetamol to help soothe any of her aches and pains. a big bouquet of flowers in his hand that definitely draws attention to himself... but he doesn't seem to care as he stands looking at the floor with his airpods in his ears as he listens to music to pass the time.
and it's time like this where she's glad he had a key to her flat.
because there was no way she was leaving the warmth of her bath to answer the door if he knocked to only get back in moments later with a different feel the water than she had been accustomed to before. knowing that it was him when she heard the jangle of his keys fall in the bowl on the table beside her front door. colliding with the metal of her own keys that lay in the bottom of the wooden bowl.
hearing his footsteps thud around the open plan of her living space, the rustle of a bag being placed down on her kitchen island, hearing him step closer and closer to where her bedroom was. her bedroom door creaking as he steps inside and she was expecting his face to peek around the door to her en-suite.
"only me," he smiles, "had a feeling you'd be in here."
"how do you know i was in?"
"your keys and your shoes by the door," he points his thumb over his shoulder and she mentally facepalms herself for being stupid, "had a feeling you weren't feeling so good today, too."
"been a bit distant, haven't i?"
he steps into the bathroom, hit with the smell of cocoa and coconut from the bubbles in her bath, crouching down beside the tub and resting his forearms on the edge of the ceramic basin she was laid in.
"it's okay," he says softly, "i know you like the back of my hand now."
he dips his fingers into the water and feels how lukewarm it was and she frowns, knowing she'd had to stand up and leave the warmth she was soaking under and find another source of comfort to keep her nice and soothed. to keep her stomach from cramping. to keep her from curling over in aches that seemed to swallow her up whenever she moved.
"brought you some bits, as well," he informs her, standing to his feet and reaching for the towel she had draped over her towel rack, "some chocolate, some tablets, some tampons and that. i don't know if you have some already so... i can always take some back to mine."
she smiles as he stretches the towel out, waiting for her to stand to her feet so he can wrap her up tightly under the cotton, giving her a hug once her teeth start chattering at the chill in the air.
"thank you," she whispers, leaning up to press a kiss to his cheek, "love you."
"anything for you," he replies and presses his lips to her forehead, "love you, too."
--
G E O R G E
george is oblivious.
but she hid it well, he had to admit.
she stands to her feet during the half-time show of the football game they had on the television, stepping passed the the two arthur's who were sat on the floor and leaning against the sofa and walking passed chris who was sat in the single chair sitting diagonal to the tv, leaving the warmth of george's body heat from where they had taken the sofa so they could lounge together. excusing herself by claiming she was using the toilet before disappearing for the second 45 minutes of the game.
it's only when arthur (hill) mentions that he was getting a numb bum and needed a sofa cushion that george realises she hadn't come back to fill the empty space beside him.
"we're about to watch a film out here, do you want to-"
he cuts his own question off once he sees the human-sized lump curled up underneath his duvet, hand holding the handle of his bedroom door as he pushes it open, his eyebrows furrowing on his browline in confusion.
"babe?"
"hmm?"
"you okay?" his voice comes out in a hushed tone, quiet and almost whispered and he steps into his room, leaving the door ajar, "did i wake you up?"
"no," she responds softly, tucking the duvet tighter around her body and she feels the bed dip beside her as george crawls across the top of the mattress, his arms coming to rest either side of her as his legs straddle her body and his face soon comes into her line of vision, "i'm okay, yeah."
he cocks an eyebrow and she smiles softly.
"i just needed some time to myself," she admits softly, craning her neck to look at him and she's met with the softest pair of eyes looking back at her, "thought i'd leave you lads to watch the football."
"really?"
the way the word lingers on his tongue makes it known to her that he can sense a change in her demeanour and she lets herself relax, her body rolling onto her back and there's a moment where his breath washes over her face and she feels more relaxed than she had done before.
"no but it's silly," she sighs and she mentally scolds herself for how shaky it sounds, "just feeling a little sad, i guess."
"why's that?"
"i don't know," she shrugs and he drops his head to press a kiss to her forehead, "think i'm just feeling all soft. today's been such a nice and comforting day with you guys and tomorrow, it just goes back to me being stressed with work and not seeing you and-"
she lets out a heavy sigh and watches as it catches his fringe.
"i guess i just want every day to be like today," she admits and he tuts at her, "what?"
"you're forgetting i'm your boyfriend. you can see me whenever you want, you silly goose," he leans his weight on one arm and brings his other up so he could cup her face, brushing his thumb against her cheek, "if you want to stay here then you can. the boys won't care. if you want to see me, just say so. you know that."
"i just don't want to be a burden," she says and he shakes his head, "i do, sometimes. i don't want to interrupt time with the guys out there."
"but you come first," he says, "always." xx

Like Betta Fish Do Part 27
Wc:3213 Masterpost CW: Hospitalization, discussions of temporary character deaths
The hospital was pure chaos. Reporters were at the door, police were at the reporters to stay back, and the Waynes were pacing.
None of them had wanted to be left behind, not with this, so as soon as those who had been playing hero changed, they all headed for the hospital. Bruce had met them in a waiting room that had been cleared out for their use. There were benefits to having a wing named after one’s father.
“Clear,” Babs said as she and Tim finished typing on the tablets that they had brought from WE. “CTV cameras will just loop past this room.”
“There are no bugs. I’ve activated scramblers for parabolic mics or anything, not that they should be able to get to us in here anyways,” Tim said.
“What happened?” Steph asked, looking to Bruce.
Bruce looked to Dick. The rest of the eyes followed.
Dick sighed.
“It’s not my secret to tell.”
“I believe we are past that, Richard,” Damian snapped.
“Why don’t you start with a debrief of tonight,” Bruce coached.
“I was almost in suit when Babs came over the comms, telling us they took Danny. I started to look for suspicious vehicles given the time frame. I wasn’t successful at spotting anything before the…” Dick was really glad that Jason was back with Danny and not here listening to this. “…before the trap went off. I saw one of the buildings go dark.
"Cass joined me. We took out the henchmen at the van and leading into the building. Based on intel, I headed straight for the basement. The place was flooded an inch or two deep. They broke the sprinkler valve, I believe. Danny was tied to a metal chair bolted in the middle of the room. A wire had been tapped into the circuit breaker and was at Danny’s feet. His shoes were off.”
Dick swallowed hard and let his arms drop to his side. That urge to punch something was still there. He flexed his hands and then purposefully relaxed them.
“I was sure he was dead, but when I called out his name he moved. I made sure the circuit breaker was off, disconnected the wire, and went to him. He was…” Dick snorted, shaking his head. “He was making jokes. He was conscious but not fully lucid. Confusion, slurred words, panic. He didn’t want to be taken to the hospital. He thought they would cut him open if ‘they knew’. I was able to convince him to come by saying we’d get Leslie and that we’d protect him.”
Damian scoffed. “Of course we will.”
“Case?” Cass signed, face scrunched up in question.
“And asked Alfred to bring a case, one that Jason put in the Cave that Danny gave him,” Dick confirmed.
“What’s in it?” Tim asked.
Dick just shook his head.
“He’s a Meta, isn’t he?” Duke asked. The question was quiet, but it felt loud in the tense air of the waiting room. He wasn’t staring at the ground rather than any of them. “Something new. Maybe something dangerous or, worse, something useful. It’s why he’s afraid they’ll cut him open.”
Steph cussed and turned to punch the wall only to be stopped by Tim.
“Is he?” Tim asked.
It seemed like there was no getting out of this question. “’Close enough’ was the way it was put when I stumbled in on… the secret.”
“Are his powers electricity based?” Babs asked. “Is that how he survived?”
Dick laughed. The bitter sound made a few of the others flinch or grimace.
“No, opposite, really. He’s weak to it. I think they only got him because they used tasers and it really knocks him out.” I’m so sorry, Danny, Dick thought. “Danny… Danny’s been electrocuted before when he was a kid. It killed him, however briefly. Really… I’m not sure if it didn’t actually kill him again tonight.”
This time Tim didn’t stop Stephanie from punching the wall.
“See, that wasn’t so bad,” Dr. Thompkins said as she peeled off her gloves.
Danny just glared at the IV in his hand that had been carefully tapped down and put under a mesh glove.
“It’s like she doesn’t trust me,” Danny whispered loudly to Jason.
“She’s right not to,” Jason said.
Danny pouted at him.
“Fish,” Jason said with a wet chuckle. He ran his hand through Danny’s hair again, which seemed to soothe him. “You said loudly and repeatedly that you were going to go out the window as soon as she stopped watching you or if she took your blood or if she put the IV in.”
“She did take it,” Danny whined.
“I did,” Leslie said, “and I also promised you no one else would get a hold of your blood and I meant it. I need a baseline for you though. It’s my job now to make sure that you’re well.”
“And no clones,” Danny said.
“And no clones,” Leslie said.
She shot Jason a look who just shrugged helplessly. He didn’t know enough about what went down with that to answer her questions.
Leslie gave up with a sigh. “You really went and found someone who fit right in with the family craziness I see.”
“Nah, Doc, he goes above and beyond.”
“Well… that should make for an interesting file.”
Danny flinched at that, hard enough for Leslie to notice and stop what she was doing.
“Danny, listen to me,” Leslie said. She waited until Danny met her eyes to continue. “No one else will see the file. It’s encrypted by Oracle, Batman’s tech person, and that’s understating them. I need to keep a file so that I can treat you and keep you healthy, that’s all.”
“No experiments,” Danny croaked.
Jason wanted to punch someone again.
“No experiments,” Leslie promised.
Danny gave a little nod, turned away from her, and all but climbed into Jason’s lap.
“Make sure he doesn’t pull that IV out,” Leslie ordered and went back to making her notes.
Not long after Jason had gotten him and Danny settled into the hospital bed, there was a knock at the door. Jason’s hand went immediately to the scalpel that Leslie had generously pretended not to notice Jason palming earlier. It didn’t matter that it was a knock Jason recognized, he wasn’t taking any chances with Danny right then.
Jason only relaxed when Dick had stepped fully through the door alone.
“Hey Danny, how are you doing?”
“Leslie took my blood.”
“Yeah, she does that,” Dick said. He was smiling, words cheerful, but Jason could see the cracks in his brother’s facade. “Alfred is going to be here in just a moment with the case. Can I send him in when he arrives? Or I can bring it myself? Or any of us. We’re all out there.”
Danny turned his head enough to be able to peer at Dick with one eye. “You’re worried.”
“Yeah, little fish, we’re all pretty worried. We care about you,” Dick said gently.
Jason resisted the urge to kiss Danny’s pout away as he shifted his gaze from Dick to Leslie.
“Can they come in?” Danny asked.
Leslie pursed her lips. “Only for a half hour. After that, it’s only Jason and one other allowed at a time and that’s only because I want Jason to try to get some rest too. Whoever else is in here is on a minimum two hour shift so not to wake you up every five minutes.”
“Yes ma’am,” Dick chirped.
“And tell them to keep it calm,” Leslie called after Dick as he slipped back out the door. She sighed and shook her head before focusing back on Danny. “Now, there will be nurses who come in.”
“Noooo,” Danny whined.
“Yes,” Leslie said. “They’ll just be taking your blood pressure, which they’ll know to expect to be low, and changing out your saline and pain medication. I’ll be back in the morning myself to check on your burns. Everyone who steps foot in this room will be approved by Bruce and I. Someone from the family will be with you the whole time, you’ll be safe in every way.”
Danny’s pout deepened before he sighed heavily and seemed to deflate. “Fine.”
“Thank you, Danny. Now please try to rest after the group leaves, both of you.”
“Sure, Doc,” Jason answered and sent her a smile. He’d have to do something to help her clinic out soon, she really went above and beyond for them tonight. He managed to get Danny turned around so that his boyfriend wasn’t buried face first into his pecs before his family invaded.
It seemed like everyone was really trying to listen to Leslie and they all filed in orderly and tucked themselves onto the couch and chairs and each other. Bruce and Alfred stayed standing.
“Hi guys,” Danny said with a wobbly smile.
Some of the family flinched at how ruined Danny’s voice sounded. The flinches weren’t obvious to be noticed by anyone by a Bat, except maybe for Duke’s, but they still happened and Jason noticed. They all looked wrecked, really, in various ways. One would almost think they had been the ones kidnapped and murdered tonight.
It was Jason’s turn to flinch at his own thoughts. Greedily, he soothed himself by pressing a kiss to Danny’s temple.
“Hi Danny,” Duke said back. “How are you?”
“You know, feeling a little extra crispy,” he joked.
The room seemed to lose all the air for a moment before Tim groaned. “God, there are two of them now. No wonder you’re dating Jason, you have the same morbid sense of humor.”
The tension in the room broke and Barbie even laughed. (They all ignored how the laugh was a little too tinged with hysteria to be truly happy.)
Alfred cleared his throat and stepped forward. “The case, Master Jason.”
“Ooh, is that…” Danny asked, zeroing in on the case.
“Yep,” Jason confirmed, popping the ‘p’.
Danny held out his arms, making grabby hands at the case. Alfred raised a brow, looking to Jason for permission, before he moved forward and handed over the case. Jason rested his hand on the lid before Danny could open it.
“So,” Jason started. He cleared his throat awkwardly, “no one freak out, okay? What’s in the case isn’t what it looks like. And… and we’ll explain?”
He wasn’t sure if they would.
He wasn’t sure if they could afford not to.
“We’ll explain,” Danny confirmed.
“Okay, Jay-lad,” Bruce agreed, though Jason could tell he didn’t know what he was agreeing to, other than trusting his son.
Jason took a breath and removed his hand. Danny flipped the lid open. It was innocuous at first, a simple black padded case. Then Danny plucked out one of the glowing, Lazarus green ectoshots and the stances of several Bats shifted.
“That is—” Damian started.
“Nope,” Jason interrupted.
“Jay—” Bruce rumbled.
“I’m sure,” Jason said. He glanced at Cass. “Really.”
“What are you going to do with it?” Tim asked, sounding a little strangled.
“Drink it,” Danny answered.
“Drink it?!”
Danny’s nose wrinkled. “Does everyone in this room have issues with that— what did you call it— Pit water?”
“Pit water or Lazarus water,” Jason said. He calmly ran his fingers through Danny’s hair as he made sure to not have a reaction to the ectoshots. Danny needed to drink them, he couldn’t have any of it spilled from misplaced panic. “And a lot of us, yeah. It’s… been a thing. My situation didn’t help any.”
Tim frowned at the vial, clearly itching to get his hands on it. “If that’s not Lazarus water, what is it?”
“Ectoplasm,” Danny sing songed and then just downed the vial to the wince of the room. A shudder ran through his body before he slumped bonelessly against Jason.
Jason plucked the empty vial from Danny’s limp fingers, pressed a kiss to his temple, and put it back in the case. “From best we can think without getting our hands on Lazarus water, they’re a bit related, but ectoplasm is a pure source where as whatever Lazarus water is, it’s fucked up. Beyond that, I think…”
Jason sighed and buried his face in the top of Danny’s head. He didn’t know how to explain the next part to his family. He didn’t know how to tell them he was still, at least a little, dead. He didn’t want to hurt them like that.
“Ectoplasm isn’t a miracle cure, not like it sounds they use Lazarus water for,” Danny said around a jaw cracking yawn. “Doesn’t work for normal people.”
“Does it work for you because you’re a meta?” Duke asked. The sympathy in his voice was hard to hear.
Danny’s laugh wasn’t any easier to hear. “Nope! I mean, like, sure how you count Superman as a meta I’m a meta, I guess. More a different species.”
Steph made an incredulous noise. “You’re an alien?”
“I wish,” Danny snickered. “I’m dead.”
“That is not funny, Nightingale,” Damian snapped.
Jason peered up at his bristling little brother. Demon brat really was already attached to Danny. “He’s not trying to be funny, Dami. Danny is half dead or, rather, half ghost.”
“Okay, which of your parents fucked a ghost?”
“Miss Stephanie,” Alfred chastised.
“Sorry Alfie,” Stephanie mumbled under Danny’s snickering.
At least having almost died (again) tonight saved Danny from being admonished too.
“Ancient, no, my parents hate ghosts,” Danny said.
“But you’re half ghost,” Babs pointed out, gently.
“Yeah. And there’s a reason that I changed my last name and don’t talk to them anymore, not that they know,” Danny said. He stretched out his arms, arching like a cat. Clearly the ectoshot was starting to have an effect. “No, I’m half dead ‘cause I died and then didn’t.”
“You’ve died before, Danny?” Bruce asked, voice carefully gentle in that way he used only when talking to his kids or those who were basically family through his kids.
“Yeah,” Danny sighed. “It was, um, don’t like talking about it. It’s a ghost thing. But my parents built a portal to the ghost’s realm to try and study them. It didn’t work, not at first. I stepped in it, tripped, hit the on button and bam… ten thousand volts of electricity later and I’m dead.”
Tim and Cass both reached out to stop Steph from moving.
“Thing is, the portal turned on,” Danny continued. “So I also got pure ectoplasm shot right through me. It brought me back, kinda. I’m a halfa; half ghost and half human. Half dead and half alive.”
“You’ve died by electricity before,” Bruce said into the silence of the room.
“Probably died again to it tonight,” Danny said with a casualness that had Jason tightening his arms around Danny. Danny just giggled. “But like I told Dick, I’m immune now.”
“You know,” Barbie said. She narrowed her eyes as Danny shrugged before she glanced to Dick. “And you knew.”
Dick sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Little wing?”
“Go ahead, Dick. I’m pretty sure you’ve connected all the dots now,” Jason said. Maybe it would be easier, no, smoother if Dick explained it. He was better at hiding his anger.
Though by the way Dick had to shift on his feet, maybe not. “I… I think I have. Then you’re…?”
Jason nodded.
“Fuck!” Dick twisted and paced to the door and back again.
“Master Richard!”
“Don’t be so harsh, Alfie,” Jason said. He couldn’t make Dick be the one to tell them; that had been a selfish hope. “Dick just put two and two together that if the ectoshots only help Danny because he’s dead—”
“Part dead,” Danny chimed in brightly.
“—then that means I’m still part dead too.”
“Jay-lad?” Bruce prompted after a tense moment, voice rough.
Jason just smiled sadly. “The Pits healed me. It sorta… filled in the cracks, but it couldn’t fix that whatever brought me back didn’t bring all of me back… or couldn’t bring all of me back. I think that’s part of why the Pits had such a hold on me. Not that it’s an excuse, but just… whatever. Point is, I’m a halfa too, even if I’m still healing enough to be a proper one.”
The family practically curled around each other in grief. Dick tucked Damian against his side. Tim slumped into Steph and Cass. Steph reached out to squeeze Bab’s hand. Bruce took an aborted step towards them. Even Alfred raised a hand to his mouth.
“I’m alright,” Jason assured them.
“You’re still dead!” Dick snapped.
“I’m half alive, that’s more than I was before,” Jason pointed out.
Dick hunched into himself at that, prompting Damian to give Dick an awkward looking hug.
“What all does that mean, being a halfa?” Bruce asked. He held up a hand as he paused and took a measured breath. “I don’t mean that as an interrogation. Right now, what’s important for us to know to make sure you’re both healthy? Or is there anything that we should avoid doing?”
Jason snorted. He appreciated the clarification, the attempt at being gentle, he did, but, “I know you want to know more than that.”
Bruce smiled, though the expression was more mocking himself than anything. “Of course I do. You know me, chum, I don’t do good with only pieces of information, but right now I’m not the important one. I can deal with some… unease so that we can focus on you and Danny.”
“Danny should drink at least another ectoshot in a bit. They help us heal as halfas. Dick knows because there was an incident where I got stabbed. Danny sensed my distress and showed up to give me an ectoshot. I had called Dick already. Which means Danny also knows about everything.”
“Danny sensed your distress?” Tim asked.
“It’s a ghost thing,” Jason said with a shrug, unsure how to really explain it. “It comes from ghosts having cores which are sort of their central organ.”
“You core?” Cass asked, clearly struggling to verbalize right then with how her nose wrinkled.
“I do. Or, I’m getting more of one. Because the Pits put me back together badly I was really messed up.”
“It’s coming in well,” Danny said sleepily. He yawned wildly (a little too widely) and turned to bury his face into Jason’s chest. “Pretty lava core too. It’s good to have close for healing. It’s warm and lovely.”
Jason snorted and kissed the top of Danny’s head. “Go to sleep if you can. You’ll need lots of rest.”
Danny huffed a mumbled protest, but Jason could tell that Danny was fading fast.
“We’ll talk more later, Jay-lad,” Bruce said as he finally let himself come close to help Danny and Jason better settle into the hospital bed to sleep.
“Yeah,” Jason said as he fought his own yawn as the head of the bed lowered. “Have to have Danny show you his ghost form, it’s really something.”
Tim echoed ‘ghost form’ quietly in the background as Alfred murmured something to the group.
“Do you want myself or Dick here for the first shift?” Bruce asked.
“Stay?” Jason asked. His eyes dropped closed as his dad ran a hand through his hair.
“Always.”
