Positively swooning over all of the delicious reds and candied yellow beads in these Yoruba "Ateyun" Powder Glass "Coral" Heirloom Beads from Nigeria ca.1900. These beads are distinctive in how they were produced; instead of being created using a mold, Ateyun beads are made by moistening finely crushed glass and then shaping the mixture by rolling it between the fingers to create the desired bead shape. A twig would then be pushed through the bead center to create a hole, and they’d be fired in a kiln, cooled, and aged by being washed in a mixture of sand and water. Fascinating: yes!
