I'm I just being too shallow in that it REALLY bothers me that Quinn is never allowed a good prom? Like, Rachel gets a Tony Award, Mercedes gets to tour with Beyonce, but Quinn getting her crown and actually not being traumatized/humiliated at prom is apparently too blatantly wish fulfillment-y for this show, I guess. At the LEAST, couldn't Finn have been booted for a 2nd year in a row, so she wasn't stuck serenading him after he dumped on her all night?
Yeah, it is genuinely a combination of bad things that makes it so hard to enjoy s3 prom.
S2 prom is interesting in the sense that practically no one really wins. Santana wanted to win because of her struggling with her sexuality, and then doesn't. Quinn wanted to win to prove that her fall from grace was only temporary, and then doesn't. Kurt gets prom queen and realizes that the bullying might never end. Karofsky wins, but because Kurt also does, it doesn't feel like a victory. But at the end of the episode the glee club celebrate and try to have a good time in spite of everything.
We gain so much from that. And above all, the show isn't concerned at pointing fingers at who the villain of the week is.
But in s3, it really just feels like primarily Quinn really gets the shaft. And the worst part is, we don't really learn anything. All the time that could've been used on exploring these characters actions is just wasted on everyone talking Quinn down, including herself.
If Finn had focused on how Quinn lying brings back some really bad memories from s1, and while they never talked it out then, they can get a chance to talk it out now and truly find peace between them before graduation. But instead Finn just blames Quinn for him not being with Rachel, as if he didn't have the opportunity to decline her offer? Like, his inability to talk to his fiancé is not Quinn's fault or responsibility.
And then the scene with Rachel just feels so patronizing. We know that Quinn and Rachel are friends at this moment, so it feels so forced that Rachel doesn't want to talk to Quinn until prom. And the whole "All I ever wanted was to be your friend" speech feels so dumb. I mean, as a Faberry shipper I gobbled it up, but from a narrative perspective it feels like it is trying to really shift the blame to Quinn. In the sense that it feels like they're trying to say 'Rachel's always wanted to be Quinn's friend, so if they are fighting it must be Quinn's fault'.
And then to top it all of we have the scene where we see Quinn decide to give away her crown. The fact this show can put a character through so much trauma and turn around and have her say that she had the dream high school career, is frankly one of the most offensive things ever.
Finn and Rachel get to have their crowns and shove all of their problems onto Quinn, as if the problems don't actually lie with each other and themselves. And sure, Quinn gets the satisfaction of knowing that she got the most votes, and she still gets to have the moment where stands up and everyone points and gasps. But is that enough? I don't believe it is.

The crowd was cold and silent
But the noise burned louder in my head
As my heart rushed out of my chest
Wishing I could fade away...
And suddenly he appeared...
He reached out his hand to me...
And with his smile he lighted up the night and warmed my heart...
His honey eyes melted in mine as we swayed around, and it was like no one else mattered anymore...
Just him and I, spinning and humming along to our song.
Gleeful paintbox project: Inspire
A poem for Klaine inspired by this particular moment in Prom Queen...
