The Grand Cru 23

The best flavours of France and Scotland have been merged together to create moments of celebration and exceptional drinking experiences. This spirit encapsulates the luxury and craftsmanship as it has been matured for 23 years in American and European oak casks and finished in rare French casks. 

Grand Cru tasting notes

This exclusive spirit is a beautiful deep gold colour - perfect with a grilled steak on a cold winter's evening. On the nose there are aromas of apple blossom, freshly baked bread and candied lemon. The palate brings out layers of rich vanilla oak, sweet brioche, sandalwood, pear sorbet and white grape and the finish is long, opulent and sweet. 

How to drink Grand Cru

There are as many different whisky styles as there are drinkers - there is a whisky to suit every palate and budget. It might seem like an intimidating drink with plenty of history but fundamentally, it's about enjoying your dram to its fullest, so our advice to you is, drink it as you like - just don't ruin it with too much mixer! 

There is no set way to drink whisky, it should be enjoyed however you like it best. Purists will say that it should always be drunk neat, without ice or mixers. However, adding a couple of drops of water can make it smoother and easier to drink, and enhances the flavour and aromas of some bottles. Sample the whisky on its own, try it with a splash of water and see what you discover on your palate.

What food to eat with whisky

There’s always been a controversy as to whether or not whisky is an appropriate drink to pair with food, but the popularity of the idea of pairing whisky with food is growing. It’s interesting to note that earlier whisky was always drank on its own i.e., without any food and having it with food was considered bizarre. According to the flavours, food is paired with whiskies in a manner so that neither the whisky or the food dominate or overwhelm the flavours of the other. Rather they should complement each other’s flavour and help elevate the experience.

Glenfiddich distillery 

The history of whisky goes back hundreds of years. The practice of distilling alcohol made its way to Europe in the 12th century, but the earliest written evidence of distillation in Scotland is from the 15th century. Records show an order from the King in 1494 for enough malt to make 500 bottles of aqua vitae, Latin for 'the water of life'.

Glenfiddich is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family owned and is now the World's most awarded single malt scotch whisky, a true reflection of the founder's innovative nature, passed down through generations.
