I'm switching between anger and absolute despair right now.

This isn't the first time I've seen something like this happen. Fuck, it's happened to me. I had to delete one of my oldest AO3 accounts because of the nonstop harassment I would get from people who just couldn't be fucked to read the tags or use the back button.

Yes, I am devastated that all of Glimmer's fics are gone. But I'm also pissed as fuck that it got to this point. That people thought it was somehow "okay" to treat another human being like this.

I'm so tired of the whole "well, fandoms are toxic" bullshit. No, it doesn't have to be like this. Fandoms don't have to be toxic. This behavior is inexcusable and unjustifiable. I am so heartbroken over the fact that I have to see yet another one of my favorite authors being forced to take a step back for their mental well-being.

It should never have to get to this point. Never.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, Glimmer. You didn't deserve any of this. I'm also sorry I wasn't more vocal about how much I loved your fics. Genuinely, I hope that you get better soon and that you're in a better place mentally.

Is there something we can do for Glimmerglanger?

 I’m just getting caught up now and seeing Glimmer deleted all their works off AO3. Looks like someone harassed them so badly they decided to leave. 

I don’t know how the codywan community can reach out, if at all, but Glimmer if you’re seeing this --  we miss you, and we are so so sorry. 

If anyone has a download of Make Your Bed can you let me know? I am kicking myself for not having any of these masterworks saved. It would be a shame for Glimmer to lose so much to this horrible person.

WE 👏 ARE 👏 BETTER 👏 THAN 👏 THIS. Congratulations, we’ve bullied two of some of the best authors I’ve had the pleasure of reading off the internet . If you don’t like something you are totally free to not read it. There is no excuse for making someone feel unsafe to post their work on a platform made for it (assuming they’re not like a n@z1 or p3d0 or something). Since Covid, Obi fans have lost literally HUNDREDS of works, including some (read; A LOT IF NOT MOST) of the most popular works ever written, and now I’m sad.

The stakes aren’t just losing entertainment, and I think we all know the power some of these works have had in our lives. One of EMIMH12’s works really helped me process grief. Another helped me determine where I’m going to grad school?! Glimmerglanger helped me with feelings of isolation. I don’t think anyone who has read their stuff has been untouched by these two authors, and their loss is monumental. Let’s not lose any more in this sad, sad way, okay?

Fanbinding: Through a Glass, Darkly by @glimmerglanger

Summary:

Obi-Wan had gotten to within an arm’s length of him. But it wasn’t...really Obi-Wan. He wore robes similar to his usual style, true enough. But they were splattered with something dark and wet. His hair was longer. His face was clean-shaven. He frowned across at Anakin, tilting his head to the side, and started, “Anakin, are you--”

OR, the one where Anakin gets lost in a universe that isn't... quite right and has to find his way home.

So! another glimmerglanger fic ahaha. They're all fantastic, but I was particularly inspired here. I had found some hexagon mirrors at a dollar store and was determined to use them in a binding.

There's a lot of imagery of Anakin seeing his other self through a dark glass, and I wanted to follow that here by putting the word "darkly" inside the mirror, not sitting on top. So the word is etched into the reflective back of the mirror and painted over there. I lucked out and happened to have some chiyogami with a cracked effect, so I put that to good use here!

In addition to the mirror, I had several other new things I tried out on this one: drop caps, foiling the endcaps, making my own bookcloth, and designing the latticework around the mirror.

Fanfic Authors to reread

Here's a list of my favorite fanfic authors that write such masterpieces I'm left in awe. I have reread many, many of their stories because the writing is so good.

Astolat - I've read all of her Witcher and Transformer works at least seven times each, lol. The Game of Thrones stories are mind-bogglingly creative, and the Harry Potter works are the best I've ever read in the entire fandom ever. I love how quickly each story progresses and how immersive each world is, and I find that her stories are the ones my mind most often turns to and thinks about while I'm daydreaming.

spqr - phenomenal, breathtaking, single-chapter oneshots that slice into a fandom with such precision that you don't even have to know what the fandom is but you'll love it and feel like you've been a part of it for years. Masterful, exquisite, heartfelt stories that are like a solid jab to the solar plexus when you step into them.

betts - oh my gosh does this author know how messy emotions and relationships and life can be. She flays apart characters, sees what makes them who they are--all the flaws, mistakes, grief, bad parts of them--and shows exactly what it means to be human. I've never felt seen like this before. betts has a gift and each story is an absolute treasure.

glimmerglanger - this makes me want to cry. I've bookmarked every single one of their stories. Read many of them over and over and over. Screamed in elation when a new update came through. but - they're gone. Nuked. Obliterated. My heart goes to the author. This is a reminder to treat these writers better, to not nag or insult or complain about the writing they do for free. I sobbed when I found out their entire archive had been deleted. Those stories were breathtaking. Staggeringly creative. All Codywan fics set in such masterful worlds: the Mermaid AU, Magic AU, Yellowstone, Baseball, Time Travel, Captured by Vader and tortured, heck, even the Animal Crossing crack!fic was a blast to read. The rarepairs were so much fun, Just Right with Obi-Wan/Alpha 17 was a personal favorite. I hope glimmerglanger is doing ok and knows that they have so much support from dedicated fans.

objectlesson - alright this is my guilty pleasure. Here's who to go to if you want interesting, hot, probably out of your comfort zone but gosh darnit if it doesn't awaken something in you, smut. Never thought I'd read Doc/Lightning McQueen fanfic but here we are. This author knows exactly what's she's doing and I'm all for it.

goldcranes - Masterclass of intense focus on little details. On exactly which lens setting you use to set the scene, what to focus on, how to best portray what's happening to wrench on your reader's heartstrings and make them feel. Phenomenal writing.

esama - my first fandom crush :). Whispers in Corners is my #1 favorite fanfic of all time. She's who I turned to when I first started reading fanfic a decade ago and I still lovingly go back and read what I consider her greatest hits.

I’m literally gutted by what happened to glimmer. I’ve been out of the fandom for a bit so I didn’t find out about it today but like. they poured their whole heart and soul into their work only to get stomped down by random people being negative on the internet to the point where they deleted all 200+ of their fics off of ao3 and left tumblr. I’m so upset it’s not fucking fair that something like this would happen to them of all people after they’ve been such a bright light in this fandom for so long.

anyway this should be obvious to most people but protect the writers you love while they’re still here because this shit shouldn’t happen to anyone
