[NewYorkTimes is Private US Media]
Over the past month, we’ve watched an astonishing, high-stakes global drama play out in The Hague. A group of countries from the poorer, less powerful bloc some call the global south, led by South Africa, dragged the government of Israel and, by extension, its rich, powerful allies into the top court of the Western rules-based order and accused Israel of prosecuting a brutal war in Gaza that is “genocidal in character.”
The responses to this presentation from the leading nations of that order were quick and blunt.
“Completely unjustified and wrong,” said a statement from Rishi Sunak, Britain’s prime minister.
“Meritless, counterproductive and completely without any basis in fact whatsoever,” said John Kirby, a spokesman for the United States National Security Council.
“The accusation has no basis in fact,” a German government spokesman said, adding that Germany opposed the “political instrumentalization” of the genocide statute.
But on Friday, that court had its say, issuing a sober and careful provisional ruling that doubled as a rebuke to those dismissals. In granting provisional measures, the court affirmed that some of South Africa’s allegations were plausible and called on Israel to take immediate steps to protect civilians, increase the amount of humanitarian aid and punish officials who engaged in violent and incendiary speech. The court stopped short of calling for a cease-fire, but it granted South Africa’s request for provisional measures to prevent further civilian death. For the most part, the court ruled in favor of the global south.[...]
The court was not asked to rule on whether Israel had in fact committed genocide, a matter that is likely to take years to adjudicate. Whatever the eventual outcome of the case, it sets up an epic battle over the meaning and values of the so-called rules-based order. If these rules don’t apply when powerful countries don’t want them to, are they rules at all?
“As long as those who make rules enforce them against others while believing that they and their allies are above those rules, the international governance system is in trouble,” Thuli Madonsela, one of South Africa’s leading legal minds and an architect of its post-apartheid Constitution, told me. “We say these rules are the rules when Russia invades Ukraine or when the Rohingya are being massacred by Myanmar, but if it’s now Israel butchering Palestinians, depriving them of food, displacing them en masse, then the rules don’t apply and whoever tries to apply the rules is antisemitic? It is really putting those rules in jeopardy.”[...]
The military campaign has “wreaked more destruction than the razing of Syria’s Aleppo between 2012 and 2016, Ukraine’s Mariupol or, proportionally, the Allied bombing of Germany in World War II,” the report quoted researchers as saying. The researchers, hardly some raving left-wing activists, are experts cited in one of the most respected news organizations in the world, The Associated Press.[...]
The International Court of Justice issued a nonbinding opinion in 2004 that the security barriers Israel was erecting in the West Bank violated international law, but that ruling has had no effect. The walls still stand.[...]
Indeed, what is a rules-based system if the rules apply only selectively and if seeking to apply them to certain countries is viewed as self-evidently prejudiced? To put it more simply, is there no venue in the international system to which the stateless people of Palestine and their allies and friends can go to seek redress amid the slaughter in Gaza? And if not, what are they to do?
For the cause of Palestinian statehood, every alternative to violence has been virtually snuffed out, in part because Israel’s allies have helped to discredit them. The most recent example is the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement that has, in many places, been successfully tarred as antisemitic or even banned altogether. Efforts to use the United Nations Security Council have drawn U.S. vetoes for decades. Is seeking redress at the appropriate venue for alleged violations of international law also antisemitic, as Israel’s defense minister said on Friday? Does no law apply to Israel? Are there no limits to what it may do to defend itself?[...]
The Biden administration has made the shoring up of the international rules-based order a centerpiece of its foreign policy but, unsurprisingly, has struggled to live up to that aspiration.[...]
Occasionally straying from your principles because circumstances require it is very different from being seen to have no principles at all, and that is precisely how much of the global south has come to regard the United States.
It seems especially shortsighted in these times that the Biden administration elected to wave away the carefully documented case prepared by South Africa. One of the biggest threats to the rules-based international order is the growing consensus in the poor world that the rich world will apply those rules selectively, at its discretion, when it suits the powerful nations that make up the global north, such as when Russia invaded Ukraine.[...]
As far as the rules-based order is concerned, when it comes to crimes like genocide and ethnic cleansing, it simply does not matter who started it. [...] The best way to shore up the rules-based order is to be seen, in word and deed, as committing to the institutions and moral commitments of that order.

In his seminal The Wretched of the Earth, Frantz Fanon could be writing about Gaza when he said: “In all armed struggles, there exists what we might call the point of no return. Almost always it is marked off by a huge and all-inclusive repression which engulfs all sectors of the colonial people.” In Israel, Gaza and the West Bank, that point has arrived. From Gaza to the Red Sea, on all fronts the West is now unmasked as a lawless killing machine in terror of losing control. Genocide, starvation and war, defended with Olympic-level diplomatic double-speak, are its only answers to the fact that the Global South, and the nations of the Middle East (if not their leaders) no longer wish to live under US hegemony. Jean-Paul Sartre, in his preface to Fanon's work, wrote of western colonialism: “Our Machiavellianism has little purchase on this wide-awake world that has run our falsehoods to earth one after the other. The settler has only recourse to one thing: brute force… the native has only one choice, between servitude and supremacy.” Fanon was a revolutionary thinker and a practising psychiatrist of colonial racism and its psychic impact on the colonised, and the coloniser. He and Sartre were writing about France’s imminent defeat in Algeria after seven years of brutal war. [...] Western powers are involved in conflicts thousands of miles from home, as they were in Fanon's time in Algeria, Congo and Indochina. Today the western political class has united behind Ukraine and Israel, but for millions of people it is no longer clear that the wars are worth fighting.  As Yemen’s spokesman, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, put it: “The war today is between Yemen which is struggling to stop the crimes of genocide, and the American and British coalition [who] support its perpetrators. Every party or individual in this world has two choices that have no thirds… who do you stand with as you watch these crimes?” Fanon, writing 63 years ago, agrees: “The colonial world is a Manichaean world… at times this Manichaeism goes to its logical conclusion and dehumanises the native, or to speak plainly, it turns him into an animal. The native is declared insensible to ethics; he represents not only the absence of values, but the negation of values… he is the enemy of values, and in this sense he is the absolute evil. “The native knows all this, and laughs to himself every time he spots an allusion to the animal world in the other’s words. For he knows he is not an animal, and it is precisely at the moment he realises his humanity that he begins to sharpen the weapons with which he will secure victory.”

OUCH!!
This article is highly significant. First, it is the Sunday Times, not Daily Mail. Second, it is written by an American journalist who had been previously highly sympathetic to Harry and Meghan.
....given how much her own success exceeded her talents. The more she talked, the harder it became to defend her as she complained about the smallness of her freebie home and wafted on about her truth".
"Harry is a hothouse royal who is learning too late that he has nothing to offer the world but his royalty. Meghan is a product of her own era, in that she has the entitlement of a celebrity but the talents of a nobody".
"The great irony of Meghan’s life is that — against all odds — she found her way to the royals, the perfect pedestal for a narcissist".
The duchess craves fame but walked away from her perfect casting
Has anyone ever squandered more goodwill and more quickly than the Duchess of Sussex? It’s hard to remember — now that her UK popularity rating, according to YouGov, is minus 47, her and Prince Harry’s eight-figure deals with Netflix and Spotify are in the bin and she was publicly trashed last week by the chief executive of a Hollywood agency as “not a great audio talent, or necessarily any talent” — but not very long ago most people really, really, really liked Meghan. And it seems to be difficult for her to recall this, given her apparent antipathy to Britain, but people really, really, really liked her here.
Almost exactly five years ago I was dispatched to Windsor to cover Harry and Meghan’s wedding. No one goes to a royal wedding to find republicanism, but the feelings of delight about this particular royal couple were overwhelming — infectious, even. After all the political turmoil in the US and UK, there was genuine joy at seeing Prince Charles — of all unlikely harbingers of the future — walking a mixed-race American woman up the aisle to marry his son. And not just from the usual elderly royalists: I got the train back to London afterwards with a group of black British teenagers, all of whom had come specifically to show support for Meghan. Royalists were happy that Harry was happy, and people who don’t care about the royals liked his wife. Theirs was, it seemed, a no-lose union, and an easy life of guaranteed global adulation seemed laid out in front of them, like a carpet of roses.
In the five years since the wedding, a whole industry of revisionist history has emerged in which famous women are re-evaluated, invariably more favourably than they were 20 or 30 years ago: Courtney Love wasn’t crazy; she was cool. Monica Lewinsky wasn’t a slut; she was exploited. Ditto Pamela Anderson, and so on. How strange, then, to be Meghan, and to find oneself re-evaluated so quickly, and so negatively. I can date the precise moment when my own sceptical opinion about her began to develop: November 8, 2020. Until that point, I’d describe my feelings towards her as sympathetic, with undercurrents of narcissism. I defended her when her appalling father conducted his British media tour castigating her for not being nicer to him. I liked that she was — hey, like me! — an American woman with a British husband, and I kidded myself I could imagine how it felt to be the object of so much hysterical media attention so suddenly. I cheered when she and Harry did their flit from the royal family.
Save yourself from having to spend another Christmas in freezing Balmoral, Meghan! Go live your best life in sunny California.
But on November 8, 2020, as the world was still in the depths of Covid, I got a glimpse of what Meghan’s best life was, when she and her husband staged a photoshoot at the Los Angeles national cemetery. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, their spokesman explained, “wanted to be able to personally recognise Remembrance Day in their own way”. Just a little intimate gesture between the two of them, the dead soldiers and the global media. I couldn’t blame Harry for the gaucheness, because he knew of no other way to live. But Meghan — come on, man, I thought. What are you doing, simulating sadface in front of a photographer now that you finally escaped the cage? You had three and a bit decades before you became famous — don’t you want to go back to a normal life? Isn’t that why you left the royal family?
Everything she has done since then has proven that, no, she absolutely does not want a normal life. From fighting to keep her children’s royal titles to releasing ludicrous statements about a car chase in New York that never happened, it is seemingly clear that what Meghan actually wants is to be a celebrity. Far from providing her hapless husband with the normality many of us thought they both craved, it looked in their Netflix documentary like she encouraged his sense of grievance and paranoia, frequently pointing out slights from outsiders and invisible paparazzi.
Her heyday coincided with a weird moment in social justice when identity politics became a source of grievance-hawking and self-promotion, and there are few better examples of that than Archetypes, the one programme the couple made for Spotify. In this, Meghan promised to “investigate, dissect and subvert the labels that hold women back”, without any sense of irony, given how much her own success exceeded her talents. The more she talked, the harder it became to defend her as she complained about the smallness of her freebie home and wafted on about her truth. No one would argue that the royal family is a beacon of racial progressiveness, but her repeated implication that Britain is more riddled with racism than the US doesn’t feel like anyone else’s truth except hers.
The Spotify executive Bill Simmons recently described Harry and Meghan as “grifters”, but that’s not quite right. Harry is a hothouse royal who is learning too late that he has nothing to offer the world but his royalty. Meghan is a product of her own era, in that she has the entitlement of a celebrity but the talents of a nobody. Other people with such attributes will go into reality TV, or influencing. The great irony of Meghan’s life is that — against all odds — she found her way to the royals, the perfect pedestal for a narcissist. The great tragedy is she believed she could do better and walked away. The best she can hope for is that her truth blinds her to the reality of how wrong she was.

Critically-acclaimed transgender horror author hails Osama bin Laden's 'principled' destruction of Twin Towers - months after sharing her desire to slit JK Rowling's throat
Gretchen Felker-Martin, a well-known transgender horror author and journalist, tweeted on Thursday that she admired bin Laden for the 9/11 attacks
Felker-Martin, who in February declared that she wanted to slit JK Rowling's throat, later deleted the tweet and apologized
Bin Laden has returned to public consciousness this week thanks to TikTok users suddenly 'discovering' his 2002 'Letter to America' justifying 9/11
By HARRIET ALEXANDER FOR DAILYMAIL.COM
PUBLISHED: 22:56 EST, 17 November 2023 | UPDATED: 23:32 EST, 17 November 2023
A transgender horror author who sparked outrage earlier this year by threatening to slit JK Rowling's throat has hailed Osama bin Laden's destruction of the Twin Towers.
Gretchen Felker-Martin on Thursday joined in the chorus of admiration for the al-Qaeda leader, sparked by TikTokers suddenly 'discovering' his rational for 9/11.
The Massachusetts-based author wrote on X, where she has 30,000 followers: 'Can pretty safely state that bin Laden and I did not, uh, agree on much, but blowing up the World Trade Center is probably the most principled and defensible thing he did.'
Bin Laden's 2002 'Letter to America' has been circulating widely this week, in the midst of the Israel-Hamas war.
TikTok users say that bin Laden opened their eyes to American foreign policy and taught them valuable lessons about global geopolitics. The revival in interest, and ignorance of bin Laden's ideas, have caused shock and anger.
Felker-Martin on Friday deleted the tweet, and apologized. She previously shared her desire to cut JK Rowling's throat over the Harry Potter author's stance on transgender issues.
Tumblr media
Gretchen Felker-Martin posted, then deleted, a tweet praising Osama bin Laden
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other day in a moment of distress I talked out my ass to play devil's advocate in a tasteless, needless way,' she tweeted.
'I sincerely regret it, and I apologize to anyone hurt or offended by my thoughtless words.'
But one X user pointed out that she had praised bin Laden in the past.
He cited Felker-Martin's August 2020 tweet, justifying the September 11 attacks.
'The huge crime of 9/11 is that the s*** we do every day overseas gets done to us exactly once,' she said.
The revival of the 2002 document has bemused and enraged many.
The White House expressed dismay at the resurgence of interest in the letter.
'There is never a justification for spreading the repugnant, evil, and antisemitic lies that the leader of al Qaeda issued just after committing the worst terrorist attack in American history – highlighting them as his direct motivation for murdering 2,977 innocent Americans,' said Andrew Bates, a spokesman for the White House.
'And no one should ever insult the 2,977 American families still mourning loved ones by associating themselves with the vile words of Osama bin Laden.
'Particularly now, at a time of rising antisemitic violence in the world, and just after Hamas terrorists carried out the worst slaughter of the Jewish people since the Holocaust in the name of the same conspiracy theories.
'Like President Biden said this year in remembrance of the Americans who lost their lives because of Osama bin Laden, 'it's more important now than ever that we come together' against a 'rising tide of hatred and extremism.''
TikTok said they will be removing all content invoking the letter.
'Content promoting this letter clearly violates our rules on supporting any form of terrorism,' TikTokPolicy wrote in a post to X, formerly Twitter.
'We are proactively and aggressively removing this content and investigating how it got onto our platform.'
The video-sharing platform claims the number of videos on TikTok is 'small' and 'reports of it trending [on the] platform is inaccurate.'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'This is not unique to TikTok and has appeared across multiple platforms and the media,' the post added.
Videos with the hashtag 'LettertoAmerica' have been viewed 7.3 million times.
Extraordinarily the majority are claiming support for bin Laden's reasoning - without a thought for the freedoms he criticizes.
The letter began to gain traction online after UK newspaper The Guardian linked to a 2002 article, which translated it in full, in a piece about the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
It was subsequently deleted, with the outlet explaining to DailyMail.com that it was being shared 'without its original context.'
The letter continued to spread on X but was prevented from spreading on Reddit.
The Guardian did not explain further as to how the link was made between the current conflict in the Middle East and a verbatim letter from bin Laden that was more than 20 years old.
The link to the letter spread, with hundreds of TikTokers posting videos in response to reading it, in which they appear to confuse the hateful diatribe for an intellectual think piece.
The letter was originally posted with an article explaining that the original version was in Arabic in a website used by al-Qaeda to 'disseminate messages and 'was sent to hundreds of subscribers to an email list run by Mohammed al-Massari, the UK-based Saudi Arabian dissident.'
The message added that the US government was included on the list.
The various trending videos about the letter include no context around bin Laden's life as a jihadist.
In other sections of his correspondence, bin Laden blames the US government for spreading AIDS throughout the world, described homosexuality as 'immoral' and sought to turn America into an oppressive religious state similar to Afghanistan.
The trend appears to have started with TikToker Lynette Adkins who posted a video on November 14.
'I need everyone to stop what they're doing right now and go read - it's literally two pages - go read 'A Letter to America,'' she said.
In his infamous letter, Bin Laden ranted that the treatment of Palestinian people had to be 'revenged' and expressed justifications for the killing of civilians in the name of jihad.
Bin Laden was killed by US Navy SEALs in a raid on his compound in Pakistan in May 2011.
'The American people are the ones who pay the taxes which fund the planes that bomb us in Afghanistan, the tanks that strike and destroy our homes in Palestine, the armies which occupy our lands in the Arabian Gulf, and the fleets which ensure the blockade of Iraq,' bin Laden wrote.
For this reason, the Saudi Arabian terrorist wrote, all Americans and Jewish people were culpable for 'the crimes committed by the Americans and Jews against [Muslims].'
Bin Laden wrote that AIDS was a 'Satanic American Invention' and repeatedly made anti-Semitic remarks including suggesting that American society was infiltrated by Jewish people who 'control your policies, media and economy.'
Felker-Martin is no stranger to courting controversy.
Earlier this year, named a series of writers she accused of transphobia - including Rowling - in a tweet sent on February 12.
She added: 'If they all had one throat, man.'
She had earlier decried the murder of British transgender teenager Brianna Ghey 16, and suggested Rowling and her ilk had stoked violence which led to the killing.
Another writer she railed against, journalist Jesse Singal, condemned Felker-Martin for making the death threat, and said she has a long history of making threats of violence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Felker-Martin's debut novel, Manhunt, published in February 2022, Rowling is murdered by being burned alive.
The book is promoted as 'an explosive post-apocalyptic novel that follows trans women and trans men on a grotesque journey of survival.' It has been lauded as 'visceral' 'gripping' and 'brilliant' by NPR and the New Yorker.
Felker-Martin's tweet - which she has now deleted - came shortly before she joined 180 activists in signing a letter to The New York Times attacking their coverage of transgender issues, which has seen the paper examine whether young children should be given puberty blockers, or gender reassignment surgery.
Rowling has shared similar views, and also questioned whether trans women should be allowed access to some female-only spaces such as prisons, domestic abuse shelters, or sporting contests.

The Met Office is refusing to retract a claim made by a senior meteorologist on BBC Radio 5 Live that storms in the U.K. are becoming “more intense” due to climate change. This is despite admitting in Freedom of Information (FOI) documents that it had no evidence to back up the claim. The Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF) noted the “false” claim seriously misled the public and demanded a retraction. The Daily Sceptic covered the story last Thursday and has since contacted the Met Office on three occasions seeking a response. “False information of this kind does much to induce climate anxiety in the population and I am sure you would agree such errors should be corrected by any reputable organisation,” it was noted. No reply was received – no retraction has been forthcoming.
The storm claim was made by Met Office spokesman Clare Nasir on January 22nd and led to an FOI request for an explanation by the investigative journalist Paul Homewood. The Met Office replied that it was unable to answer the request due to the fact that the information “is not held”. Interestingly, the Met Office’s own 2022 climate report noted that the last two decades have seen fewer occurrences of maximum wind speeds in the 40, 50, 60 knot bands than previous decades. The Daily Sceptic report went viral on social media with almost 3,000 retweets on X, while GWPF’s demand for retraction was covered by the Scottish Daily Express.
The lack of action by the state-funded Met Office is very interesting. Extreme weather is now the major go-to explanation for the opinion that humans largely control the climate, despite a general lack of scientific evidence. Backing away from this ‘settled’ narrative risks damaging a potent tool nudging populations across the world towards the collectivist Net Zero political project. Mainstream media usually take care to fudge their reporting of any direct link, using phrases such as ‘scientists say’ and sprinkling words ‘could’ and ‘might’ in the copy. The mistake Nasir made was to forget this basic requirement of broadcast fearmongering.
There appears to be an arrogance around the Met Office, an arrogance it shares with many other organisations and scientists promoting Net Zero. At the heart of this assumed superiority is the ludicrous claim that the science around human-caused climate change is ‘settled’. As a result of this, it seems many have lost the ability to debate their work with anyone taking an inquiring position. The scientific process has largely broken down in the climate science world. Secure in the knowledge that it will not be challenged, almost anything can be said on legacy media from a ‘consensus’ narrative point of view to promote the supra-national aims of Net Zero. On the legal front, this arrogance was in evidence in the summing up in the recent Mann v Steyn defamation trial in Washington D.C. The jury should award punitive damages to Michael Mann, inventor of the temperature ‘hockey stick’ graph, “so that in future no one will dare engage in climate denialism”, said Mann’s defending lawyer.

LONDON (AP) — Russia halted a breakthrough wartime deal on Monday that allows grain to flow from Ukraine to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia where hunger is a growing threat and high food prices have pushed more people into poverty.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia would suspend the Black Sea Grain Initiative until its demands to get its own food and fertilizer to the world are met. While Russia has complained that restrictions on shipping and insurance have hampered its agricultural exports, it has shipped record amounts of wheat.
“When the part of the Black Sea deal related to Russia is implemented, Russia will immediately return to the implementation of the deal,” Peskov said.
The suspension marks the end of an accord that the U.N. and Turkey brokered last summer to allow food to leave the Black Sea region after Russia’s invasion of its neighbor worsened a global food crisis. The initiative is credited with helping lower soaring prices of wheat, vegetable oil and other food commodities.

🇮🇱🇵🇸 💥ISRAELI FORCES BOMB GAZA HOSPITAL KILLING 500 CIVILIANS, MOSTLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN💥
Israeli Occupation Forces launched an air strike Tuesday targeting al-Ahli Babtist hospital in Gaza City, killing upwards of 500 civilians with hundreds more severely wounded, mostly women and children according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
The Gaza Health Ministry said in statement Israeli air strikes on the Gaza City Baptist hospital killed hundreds of civilians who were sheltering and receiving aid inside, along with the medical staff, doctors and aid workers inside.
"Hundreds of victims are still under the rubble," the Ministry said.
According to the Palestinian Civil Defense, Tuesday's air strike was the deadliest by Israel against Palestinian civilians in five wars fought since 2008.
“The massacre at al-Ahli Arab Hospital is unprecedented in our history. While we’ve witnessed tragedies in past wars and days, but what took place tonight is tantamount to genocide,” spokesman Mahmoud Basal said.
"The hospital was housing hundreds of sick and wounded, and people forcibly displaced from their homes" because of other strikes, a statement said.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) publicly condemned the Israeli attack as genocide.
Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian wrote a message on the social media platform X calling Global leaders to put an end to Israeli War Crimes.
"After the terrible crime of the Zionist regime in the bombing and massacre of more than a thousand innocent women and children in the al-Moamadani Hospital, the time has come for the global unity of humanity against this fake regime more hated than ISIS and its killing machine. TIME IS OVER."
Al-Mayadeen English posted to Twitter, "The Israeli Occupation deliberately bombed al-Maamadani Hospital in the Gaza strip with the death toll expected to reach over 800."
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kan'ani condemned the attack on civilians as a brutal act of war, crime and genocide.
"The Zionist regime... by committing this heinous and atrocious crime, once again revealed its savagery and inhumanity to the world and proved that it has no slightest adherence to the principles and rules of international law during times of war," he said.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians are currently sheltering in schools and hospitals who had hoped to be spared from the bombing, but in the end, the Zionist regime targeted them even there.

[Tbf, Charles and BP does this too, I just think they might be a little bit less obvious about it lol. One thing that bothers me the most about KP’s approach is how they’re very keen on telling us stuff instead of showing it. So they say William is a “great statesman” which he is, but then they don’t show it properly.]
I disagree completely. KC3 is rightly called a great statesman, not by his spokesman but by others and that’s how it makes it way into the media. He’s put in the work over decades, at home and in the Commonwealth. There’s a reason so many firsts were extended to him on his Germany state visit - from the ceremonial welcome to addressing the Bundestag in session.
It’s a function of relationships that he’s built, often with little coverage or appreciation. Today would have been his and Camilla’s wedding anniversary but he rescheduled it to attend the Pope’s funeral, because it was such an important diplomatic event. Like Arthur Edwards who follows the Royals says: he knows everybody in the world, every Prime Minister, every Head of State.
William has a very long way to go to become even close to a great statesman - his meeting with Jamaica’s PM and the ill advised damage control speech on the Caribbean tour - show that. If he’s intending to be the future Head of the Commonwealth, why have him and Catherine never visited Africa? Why didn’t his wife attend the Commonwealth Day reception? How many Commonwealth countries have they visited?
Why doesn’t William speak Welsh yet, or comfortably any other language that we know of? What big domestic initiative does William has that sees him engaging with political leadership at home to build relationships? It’s like he’s woken up and realized at 40 he’s far behind on diplomatic credibility and having Lee give briefings to People mag to call him a “global statesperson” will make him one. It won’t - he has to put in the work. 3 week holidays every two months don’t help 🤷🏻‍♀️
i have nothing to add to this except please drop your mic

A missile attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels on a commercial ship in the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday killed three of its crew members and forced survivors to abandon the vessel, the U.S. military said. It was the first fatal strike in a campaign of assaults by the Iranian-backed group over Israel's war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The attack on the Barbados-flagged, Liberian-owned bulk carrier True Confidence further escalates the conflict on a crucial maritime route linking Asia and the Middle East to Europe that has disrupted global shipping. The Houthis have launched attacks since November, and the U.S. began an airstrike campaign in January that so far hasn't halted their attacks.[...]
Dujarric said the attacks are causing risks "to property, to life, to ecology in the area."
At the State Department in Washington, spokesman Matthew Miller condemned the attack. "We continue to watch these reckless attacks with no regard for the well being of innocent civilians who are transiting through the Red Sea. And now they have, unfortunately and tragically, killed innocent civilians," he told reporters.
Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, a Houthi military spokesman, claimed the attack in a prerecorded message, saying its missile fire set the vessel ablaze. He said the rebels' attacks would only stop when the "siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza is lifted."
The rebels have repeatedly targeted ships in the Red Sea and surrounding waters over the Israel-Hamas war, but up to Wednesday hadn't killed any crew members.[...]
Despite more than a month and a half of U.S.-led airstrikes, Houthi rebels have remained capable of launching significant attacks.

During a fundraising event on Wednesday, U.S. President Joe Biden referred to Russian President Vladimir Putin as “a crazy SOB,” reports Reuters. Biden made the comment while speaking to a group of donors about global threats. “We have a crazy SOB like that guy Putin and others and we always have to worry about nuclear conflict, but the existential threat to humanity is climate,” said Biden.
In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the U.S. president should be “ashamed” of his words and was acting like a “Hollywood cowboy” to serve domestic political interests. “Boorish statements like this from the head of the United States are unlikely to hurt the pride of the head of another state, especially President Putin. But this is a huge disgrace for the country itself, for the United States,” Peskov commented.

Ukrainian Air Force shot down 3 Su-34 fighter-bombers in just one day
Fernando Valduga
On December 22, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that it shot down three Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers in the southern sector of the country, a boost for Ukraine after a series of military setbacks.
This was considered one of its most successful operations against Russian air power since the beginning of the war. A spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force called it "a brilliantly planned operation".
Tumblr media
The Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykola Oleshchuk, reported about this, said that the jets were shot down near noon on Friday.
Russia would be using the jets to launch cruise missiles and guided bombs against Ukrainian-controlled cities on the western bank of the Dnipro River and against Ukrainian soldiers who established a safe position on the eastern side.
The mode of destruction of the fighter-bombers has not been reported and there is no photo or video material that can confirm the loss of the fighter-bombers.
Tumblr media
However, photos of a Russian search and rescue helicopter Mi-8/17 and the landing site of the killed pilots appeared on social networks.
Tumblr media
It is worth mentioning that unconfirmed information about the overthrow of a Su-35 and two Su-34 is circulating online. An unconfirmed image that intends to show Patriot missiles being launched against the three Su-34s is also circulating online.
Tumblr media
The Russian propagandist Fighterbomber (Ilya Tumanov) indirectly confirmed the slaughter of an aircraft on his Telegram channel at 1:54 p.m., saying that the crew was being searched.
Later, at 2:14 p.m., he said that all the crew, alive and dead, were taken. He believes that the preliminary cause of the loss of planes was a Patriot air defense system.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that the Patriot system would be deployed in Ukraine by the end of 2023.
Tumblr media
Developed by Lockheed Martin and RTX, formerly Raytheon Technologies, the Patriots have successfully taken down some of Russia's most advanced missiles. But the stocks of interceptor missiles, which can cost millions of dollars each and take years to manufacture, have been exhausted by Russia's continuous attacks.
Tumblr media
In an additional boost, Japan said on Friday that it would supply Patriot missiles to the U.S., strengthening global stocks. Tokyo is expected to transfer dozens of interceptor missiles from its own supplies, starting in the first quarter of 2024, according to a U.S. authority.
On Friday, the Dutch government said it began preparations to deliver to Ukraine 18 U.S.-designed F-16 fighters, without providing a schedule. The delivery of the jets will still require an export license and that Ukraine meets the personnel and infrastructure criteria.

The Times:
The Prince of Wales hopes that bringing his Earthshot environmental awards ceremony to the world’s biggest polluter will spur President Xi to take action
The Prince of Wales will take his annual Earthshot prize awards to China in an attempt to engage with the country and fast-forward change to its environmental policies.
He will visit the world’s biggest polluter despite severely strained relations between China and the West, a decision that is in marked contrast to his father’s approach.
The King, who will be 75 on Tuesday, has never visited mainland China because of his views on the regime’s treatment of Tibet and its human rights record. By comparison, William is said to believe that you “can’t exclude a big chunk of the planet when thinking about fighting for its future”.
William, discussed his plans for China with the prime minister and president of Singapore last week, during his three-day visit to the country which hosted this year’s Earthshot prize awards ceremony.
A royal source said: “Prince William believes that when it comes to the climate and the environment, Asia is critical. He’s of the view you can’t exclude a big chunk of the planet when thinking about fighting for its future. To fast-forward the change and impact he wants, he knows he has to engage with China and India — two of the world’s biggest economies and biggest emitters of carbon dioxide.
“This is not him commenting on government policy. This is about his approach to the environment and ability to create real global change. It is him thinking, ‘Where can I deliver impact and change not just here but around the world?’ That is his longer-term view.”
A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “Scale and ambition is something the prince thinks a lot about. He wants to make Earthshot truly global.”
William travelled to China in 2015 on an official visit, when diplomatic relations were less fractious and David Cameron’s government encouraged trade and investment with the regime. While in the People’s Republic, one of the world’s largest consumers of ivory, William met President Xi and condemned the illegal wildlife trade as a “vicious form of criminality”. Later that year, as Xi began a UK state visit, William appeared on Chinese television condemning the ivory trade. Two years later China banned the trade.
