Today in the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars, William Shatner guest stars in "Admotting Service," episode 6 of the first season of Dr. Kildare (original air date November 2, 1961).
Shatner plays Dr. Cunningham, the supervising resident for Dr. Kildare's internship on the admitting ward. Kildare and Cunningham come into conflict over over a patient Cunningham discharges when Kildare has a gut feeling his case is more serious than Cunningham's examination indicates. The patient goes home and immediately dies, and his family threatens to sue the hospital and Cunningham. But the autopsy indicates that while Kildare's instinct was correct, the patient's condition was so rare Cunningham couldn't have been expected to catch it.

Continuing my October reviews.
Daughter of Dr. Jekyll (1957) was added for this October because it was directed by Edgar G. Ulmer who is known for bringing a bit of splash and dash to otherwise below mediocre material. This is no different. It's certainly not a masterpiece, but Ulmer delivers in a few critical scenes that show that the man still cares about this weak and illogical script. John Agar is fine and Gloria Talbott does all of the necessary things for this type of film. Arthur Shields as Dr. Lomas is very good as well. Gloria Talbott is really not my favorite, but recommended for fans of older horror and for Ulmer fans especially.

The Glorious Gloria Talbott
Today we pause to acknowledge actress Gloria Talbott (1931-2000). We’ve had a handful of occasion to mention Talbott here, chiefly in relation to her horror films: she has key roles in The Cyclops (1957), Daughter of Dr. Jekyll (1957), I Married a Monster from Outer Space (1958), and The Leech Woman (1960). Counterintuitively, she is not related to Lyle Talbot, who also appeared in B movie…
