do you like live music?

yes!! I go to lots of gigs, mostly punk and emo (as in like. midwest emo meme level of emo) and bands my friends are in! favourite band to see live probably PUP or the menzingers, joyce manor also great, gnarwolves (rip), enter shikari, the wonder years, shit present. seeing jeff rosenstock in autumn in new york! I also like post-punk and lots of stuff from the late 70s and the 80s as well, depeche mode, joy division, new order, the cure, the smiths, etc etc. and also wham! and abba, and pink floyd, and queen. kate bush, pj harvey. weird women (complimentary)

SHE/HER / have you ever heard of BOTTLE TO BOTTLE by gnarwolves, well, it describes SATINE HICKS  to a tee! the twenty four year old, and BARTENDER AT RICCI'S was spotted browsing through the stalls at portobello road market last sunday, do you know them? would you say SHE is more argumentative or more EARNEST instead? anyway, they remind me of the incessant need to get the last word in, a near constant pout, well worn converse with frayed laces and the tang of ginger, maybe you’ll bump into them soon!

time in notting hill: twenty four years

The youngest of three, Satine felt like she had to fight to get her voice heard from a young age.  Despite this, her family was loving, and whole, and she rarely wanted for anything in the world.  A fiery attitude to match her hair, there were few things Satine hated than to be asked if she was really part of the Hicks family; it gave her a complex, despite knowing better.

Argumentative, and often relying on gently bullying as both the youngest in the family and as a love language, Satine is always ready with a snide remark or comment, a careful ribbing to determine if you’re someone she can really have in her life.  She can handle just as much as she dishes out, never bordering on cruel, but insistent that teasing is the way to understand each other.

She knew from a very young age that she was only romantically interested in women, and has very little - if any at all - patience for those who think it’s ‘just a phase’ or she just ‘hasn’t met the right guy’ and will have zero qualms getting in your face if you try either of these lines on her; she is extremely confident in who she is and refuses to let anyone try to tell her differently.

Compassionate to a fault, Satine loves few things as much as letting others go on and on about what brings them joy; she loves hearing about a new hobby or story or game that her friends just picked up, reacting as excitedly as if she were doing that thing too.  It’s a careful balance to her more biting nature, and it’s part of what makes her teasing tolerable.

Overall, Satine is fairly easy to get along with despite her youngest child syndrome and argumentative moods, but whatever you do, don’t try to eat her leftovers.

So here’s a picture of me on stage with Gnarwolves on their last tour and on the last day of the Montague Arms (I think it still exists but it’s no longer a gig venue).

P.s. I was really drunk, one of my piercings got ripped out and I kissed the singer (Thom) on his shiny sweaty head (which in hindsight was very weird and inappropriate).
