Meet the Artist: @kudriaken
Hi! My name is Anna, but I go by the nickname “Kudriaken”. I am an illustrator and artist who mostly draws fantasy. I am also working on my own story that I plan to someday draw as a comic. I think I always had the urge to draw stuff to accompany stories that I would randomly see in my head since I was a child. And I am continuing to do it as an adult. I take a lot of inspiration from books, manga, comics, songs, and shows. Sometimes you can see me doing fanarts of the media I am passionate about. But also a lot of precious people around help me to be creative. My actual education is not exactly art-related - I studied computer science. Weirdly enough it somewhat helps with learning art in some departments. I realized in the middle of my studies that my passion lies in the field of digital art, so that's where I am now.
Pleased to meet you, Anna! Below are some of her artworks that she has picked out for you all to appreciate.

comics and animation have a lot in common, but one interesting difference is that arranging pictures in space rather than time means there's a tradeoff between the amount of drawings you use to show an action, the amount of space each drawing is given, and the amount of pages you cover which determines the 'pacing' of the comic.
if you slice the page up into a lot of tiny boxes to show many stages of a motion like an animation, then each panel has correspondingly less space for background details, and it may affect the aspect ratio of panels. if you give yourself space for a large splash panel, then the pace will slow.
one solution to this problem is to break the convention that a panel is a single 'frame' of action and show multiple images of a character in the same background. Kentaro Miura did this sometimes, and Tradd Moore (on here - @traddmoore) is an expert who uses it frequently (I'll reblog his spiderman comic in a minute). Kamome Shirahama, a genius at creative paneling, also uses it in a couple of places.
Tumblr media
a similar trick will have a single background continuous across multiple panels, showing a static 'camera shot' at different times.
the limitation of these methods is that breaking convention makes the panel a little harder to process - you need to make absolutely sure you cue the reader clearly about where to enter the panel. and it requires action that involves a large movement so the drawings don't overlap. so most authors use it as a 'once in a while' thing.
an opposite approach, used in early parts of Superpose by Seosamh and Anka and Goodbye, Eri by Tatsuki Fujimoto, is to go even harder with the cinematic convention and give each panel the aspect ratio and detailed backgrounds of a film camera, taking all the space you need - Superpose opens with about two panels per page which may be very similar to each other, creating a very deliberate sense of pacing. to pull this off you need to be either extremely fast at drawing like Fujimoto, or accept your comic taking a long time to get anywhere - and you also need to be very good at placing the camera in space. you're basically drawing fully rendered storyboards at that point.
Tumblr media
one of the interesting difficulties of comic-making is controlling pacing. if you draw many very similar panels it will convey a sense of high concentration and intensity, or a heavy atmosphere, like a long take in a film. much like in prose, if you spend a lot of pictures on something it draws attention to it. so you want to use the 'slow down' sparingly for effect.
as in animation, you're also limited by your own capacity to draw all those pictures, and moreover the space to put them. this is one reason why comics in magazines tend to be sharply limited in page count, and webcomics tend to be very slow compared to other forms of serial fiction. (perhaps manga can make heavier use of pacing tricks by virtue of cheaper printing and endemic overwork. i don't think that's the full story though.) meanwhile, when Transmetropolitan started to experiment with manga-style pacing, apparently it upset fans who felt the story progression was being diluted. when reading Transmet in one go, though, you don't even notice. what works well in an anthology of hundreds of pages may work poorly in a serial.
i think the pace of the reader is often controlled primarily by the text - at least for me I find I sometimes have a tendency to jump very quickly over panels to get to the next bit of the story and have to consciously slow myself down to make sure I don't fail to appreciate the art. so while a series of text-less panels is effective artistically, you might want some words to act as speed bumps. but too much text per picture and your comic becomes exhausting to read, like Subnormality. and you don't want to over-explain what's conveyed perfectly well by the pictures, as many older comics do.
ideally, you use your text, small panels and large panels to create a sense of rhythm. a big splash panel can act as the full stop in a sentence, or a longer take after a series of rapid cuts. negative space is an especially powerful device in the right hands: when you hit a page of Chainsaw Man or Berserk that is almost entirely white after several pages of dense illustration, a character bursting into the void, there's an immediate 'wow' effect before you even process what's happening in the illustration. (i can't seem to find the chainsaw man example i had in mind, so here's one from berserk.)
Tumblr media
and on that note, the other thing that comics have that animation doesn't is the impact of being confronted with the whole gestalt page. in the manga I was helping Fall translate when she died, We Are Magical Boys (Bokura wa Mahou Shounen), Fukushima Teppei frequently puts one panel much larger than the others so it dominates the page, usually a close-up or full length character portrait, allowing the cuteness of their unique art style to treasure centre stage. Sandman, which I'm currently rereading, is full of elaborate page compositions, where a drawing might not even be a panel per se, but a visual element. Witch Hat Atelier is full of elaborate borders and clever compositions. just look at this...
Tumblr media
how did she come up with that! the absolute madwoman! the right side is relatively standard Atelier (establishing shots, the main cast eagerly stepping out of their panel) but on the left, we have a set of panels falling down from above onto a large splash panel. even though this image is concurrent, the panels invite us to appreciate it in chunks, and the page as a whole has this great visual of the pages of a book, continuing the image of the previous page. (more of this on upcoming post on Atelier)
a character emerging from their panel to overlap others, breaking up the monotony of the grid and adding a sense of depth to the page as a whole, is a reliably appealing motif. also, drawing one panel borderless, so it implicitly continues behind the other panels. large areas of black and white and choices of colour saturation can convey a mood to the page as a whole.
the danger you run is always the loss of clarity. the reader must be able to tell what panels to read in what order without thinking about it. Sandman will sometimes do a double page spread where you're supposed to read across both pages, and this consistently trips me up. Dresden Codak is by an adhd author and her drive to give every page an elaborate layout is very familiar to me, but especially in Hob, it messes with the flow of the comic overall.
so every comic page, every comic, is a fascinating balance of all these factors. how to create a strong, visually interesting composition, control the pacing appropriate to tone, create a thrilling sense of rhythm... all without sacrificing clarity.
not much more to say about this as yet, it's just something I'm thinking about while trying to lay out a page of Ghost Barrier. my tendency is to generally use larger panels, and try to be creative with layouts, but you have to consider not just each page in isolation but how they relate to other pages. so to make the splash panel land, I need to contrast with a denser page immediately beforehand.
the more I make comics the more of a feel I'll get. cool medium!

CREZZ⭐STAR
( do not reblog. this is just a pinned post.... )
Tumblr media
20 + | Cancer | Artist | INFJ | Devil May Cry ( Nerologist ) | ONE PIECE ( Zorologist ) | ENGLISH / FILIPINO / (bits of basic) JAPANESE
Greetings! I'm Crezz! I DRAW WHAT I WANT and what I love and give me inspiration. I found myself drawn to Isekai fantasy genres lately! I also love sparkles, color gold/yellow, cats and DMC's NERO, very very much! ✨✨✨✨
I like games / manga / anime / comic though I do have my favorites that will be stated below:
✨ Devil May Cry series ✨
✨ Final Fantasy XIV ✨
✨ ONE PIECE✨
✨ Detective Conan ✨
Hazbin Hotel
Final Fantasy VII Crisiscore
Kingdom Hearts series
Final Fantasy XV
Tate No Yuusha no nariagari
MARVEL
I like to draw on my own pace as i do not like pressure nor being hired with a deadline. I work best when i'm taking my time because I find inspirations to fuel me to make the piece exquisite.
>> Also NOTE: I like a chill environment and time so I am very much the fiction is and only remains fiction type of person, meaning i'm PROFICTION / PROSHIP, and thus can tell the difference, and DOES separate IRL from fiction. Meaning I can handle seeing most dark themes as well. Although If there's things I do not like, I tend to ignore / mute or block it to avoid it. So i'd recommend you do the same if there's things you don't like that i draw / like / make or plainly of me being proship. Because I am not anyone's online babysitter. This is my blog and YOU came here. Don't act like you own me or control what I make. You don't, so don't go acting entitled.
>> Also 2nd NOTE: Pairings / shipping wise I have top / bottom positionals preference for very few particular characters. That being firstly DMC Nero (top only) and Roronoa Zoro (top only). While there may be times I like art that depicts them as the opposite, its more of appreciation to the art and skills of the artist itself. Nothing more.
>> Also 3rd NOTE: anywhere I go, which ever social media account. I block people. It can be the stuff they make (fanart of pairings i don't like) /say makes me uncomfortable or I see them agreeing or even doing cyberbullying and doxxing of others themselves. It's nothing personal. I just want to vibe and have a good time and avoid terrible people so I use block ( or mute ) . Especially on X where I go on blocking spree sometimes, block chain, to keep my timeline peaceful and thus peace of mind.
>> Also 4th NOTE: any anons planning to send hate in my ask box. don't even think about it. You will only make yourself look like really terrible laughable ( in a bad way ) clown because I will just delete your ask and block you. ( yes even when you are anonymous, there's an option to block, which if i recall correctly, it's your ip that tumblr blocks instead. ) save your energy. Because AGAIN in case you missed it. I DO NOT HOLD BACK IN BLOCKING. Use your energy on things that makes you happy rather than hating on people.
I hope you enjoy your stay! May the stars shine your path to a sparkling future!

Ok, I want to start off by saying that I am a fan of all arts and am so appreciative of the time, passion, and work that goes into any kind of content creation.
I am also very particular about when it comes to art. There are mangas, comics, animated works that I have difficulty reading/watching or will not read/watch if I'm not a fan of the art style.
And as an artist I understand that art is subjective and not everyone likes it. Just as I recognize that not everyone likes my particular art style and that's ok. (Not trying to have people come for me like I’m trashing Charlie’s art cuz I am 10000% not.)
Charlie does amazing work and I like it, but it's clear that her style has changed (as most content creators do) since the TLH portraits she did and the pieces that are going in the journal for CC's new kickstarter. I'm a self- taught artist so terminology isn't my best, but her style now is giving semi cartoon realism, but airing on the side of the cartoon more now.
I feel that my unpopular opinion is that I'm not a huge fan of it. I really like the TLH portraits she did of Matthew, James, Christopher, Thomas, ect, but idk there is something about these new portraits in her style that I'm just not liking. Her lines are much sharper now, darker, more profound and it feels like all of the face shapes/ jaw lines are basically the same (and I know I have no room to talk since I draw in an anime style so one could argue all my lines look the same).
and I'm NOT saying that they are carbon copies. Jem clearly looks different from Will down to his eye shape which is amazing and looks great. But idk...maybe part of my disliking is also the inconsistencies? and I'm using that term lightly...but like
Clary's hair looking straight when it's very canonly curly. Alec and Magnus having basically the same haircut... (I’m not the best person to speak on Dru…but CJ’s flower card is different and feels more like how she’s described on the book). The lack of and absence of runes... and I know all of that can be personal preference/stylistic choice. After all, art is subjective and based off of the artist's interpretation (for the most part anyway) but I'm a stickler for details so it bugs me…
And I just liked the softness/ more realism style of the previous portraits Charlie has done for TSC than these newer ones. These new ones are nice and I do like them…just not as much…and there are some that I don’t like at all.
Thanks for reading my ramble 😂 I hope it made sense
Summary: I like Charlie’s work, but am not a huge fan of these new TSC portraits.
BESTIE I'M ABOUT TO CRY😭THE WAY I ASKED YOU MYSELF TO EXPRESS YOUR FEELING IN MY ASKBOX AND THEN FORGOT ABOUT IT
Tumblr media
Okay okay, SO! You're so brave for saying this, LIKE YES WE'RE BEING FED, thank you for the content for our dying fandom, but damn...
Allow me to also start with: WE LOVE YOU CHARLIE, WE JUST LOVE TO COMPLAIN🥺
I can understand Clary's hair, she could have styled them, I understand few runes on James, maybe Cassie didn't clarify that BUT WHAT ABOUT THESE😫the first one looks like a dream and the second one... I'm not sure, it feels like sth is wrong about it but I'm not an artist and I can't say what exactly is off
BUT SOMETHING IS OFF RIGHT?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One time she nails the character completely and the next time BOOM JUMPSCARE
Is it Cristina? Is it... who's it😳 it can't be Dru
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But also I can't blame Charlie, I mean I also prefer her old style, but I'm mostly confused by Cassie. Like...you paid for the work and had a chance to correct the artist or clarify some details about the characters but...you saw this and went YEAH THAT'S WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR, NO, NO NEED TO FIX ANYTHING IT'S ALREADY PERFECT

Can you give me any tips on how to draw Kenobi's beard? I need to improve my facial hair skill's. Love your art, the light and shadow play you haw going, is straight up insane.
So I tried typing up an explanation but I don't think it was very helpful, so I ended up making a step-by-step of how I personally draw Obi-Wan's beard!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But yeah, always draw the base face underneath and build on top of that!
Also, note that my own art style is very stylized, very "manga." It's a good idea to look at how different artists draw facial hair in a variety of styles to get inspiration for how you want to draw!
And most importantly, as with all art, practice. There are lotsa different beards out there, and even Obi-Wan himself has different beards. Even within live action, Ep 2 beard is closer to his face, Ep 3 is more puffed out (what I drew here), Obi-Wan show is even bigger! Mix in how angular his beard is in TCW animated, the variety of takes across the tons of comics he appears in...there's really no wrong way to draw it, just preference! And this goes not just for Obi-Wan, but any character—and not just beards, but every feature! So you just gotta draw lots to figure out not just what you think looks right, but the kind of beards you like to draw! I'm definitely still working on it myself!
Anyway, I hope this very quick step-by-step (I hesitate to call it a tutorial) was helpful! And thanks for liking my art!
Also, here's a bonus Young Obi-Wan + Mature Obi-Wan comparison:

Replies
We have A LOT of replies today! <3 Thank you for your asks!
Quite a bunch of them are related to our latest comic about Riddle and his mom, some are related to our previous replies, and some are just about the characters in general.
But before I start I wanted to note one thing: I’m probably going to start skipping some asks, and I’m sorry for that. I always try to answer everyone, but it’s getting more difficult for me to keep up, especially when writing replies where I don’t really have much to say. I’m not saying that you should stop: we read everything and appreciate you sharing your thoughts about characters with us; but please keep in mind that I might not reply. Like I’ve mentioned, me writing replies takes one (sometimes up to two) hour per day, and since I’m an artist, not a writer, it’s especially exhausting for me mentally lol I’m sorry about that.
I love talking to you, and I don’t want my replies to feel forced and burnt-out, that’s the main thought.
So, starting with the asks about Riddle’s mom and her amusing poster.
characharing asked:
i see Riddle's mom doesn't know of Chenya yet
I guess Chenya is just better at not being noticed when he wants to, being the Cheshire cat and all~
Anonymous asked:
Alrighty, who wants to go and throw apples at Riddle’s mom?
Probably the entirety of Heartslabyul…
Anonymous asked:
Your artwork with Riddle’s mom reminded me of a fan manga I saw on Pixiv by SIG. It’s about Trey confronting Riddle’s mom during winter break and helping Riddle get away from her (that’s what I can tell, I don’t speak Japanese)
Unfortunately I haven’t seen that one, but I’m glad it exists! After experiencing ch1 and seeing Riddle being so down and kind of anxious about returning home during winter break, it’s impossible not to get a “GO DO SOMETHING TREY TELL HER TELL HER” kind of thought. Or “MURDER HER”, it depends lol
Anonymous asked:
Trey needs to use his UM towards Riddle's mother. Trey can be a secret murderer if you ask me.
I feel like this idea is so prominent in our minds, we’ve mentioned it a couple of times, in the hc post about twst guys murdering people for sure lol
But yeah, Trey’s UM could be very dangerous…
blackbutlerfandomnerddomain asked:
Based on this, Riddle's first rebellion act is inviting Trey over when she's not around. Slowly the anxiety of him leaving before his mother came home faded and soon he began to feel the urge to have sex while Trey and him had the house to themselves. Bonus: They fucked on Riddle's desk AND Riddle's mum's bed
That would be absolutely scandalous, unacceptable, super nerve-wracking but also cathartic and completely necessary. Not to mention very hot lol You go, Trey, break that bed.
Anonymous asked:
Idia wants that poster too. XD
Yes please. And then the version of it with Rook’s face. And then the version of it with the Tweels. And then-
Anonymous asked:
My line of thought is 'ofc Riddle can still collar people' because some of the other prosecutors have gimmicks (Franziska and her whip, Godot and coffee, etc) but realistically it would probably just be Ace getting collared frequently during trials and investigations.
(This ask and the next one are related to the idea of Riddle being an Ace Attorney prosecutor, we mentioned it in these replies)
Yeah that makes sense, the prosecutors of this franchise just can’t do their job without doing something funky lol But what I love is the fact that it’s completely useless, be it a regular collar or a magical one, so basically it’s just a petty way to humiliate Ace because he is being annoying.
Lovely.
Anonymous asked:
Riddle would definitely lecture Phoenix about letting Trucy use her magic panties.
Oh man, so now Phoenix is disbarred and collared? This man just keeps winning lol
You can tell Riddle wasn’t allowed to use magic panties as a kid :(
Anonymous asked:
This is a dumb question but do you think Idia has what is the stereotypical NEET things? You know, hentai dating games, body pillows and the like. Also, what sexuality do you see the cast as? Just curious 😃
Idia is absolutely aware of all of these things and they absolutely surround him, and he is probably far less innocent than the game allows him to be lol But whether he really loves playing hentai dating games and buys erotic doujins depends on a story we’re telling in posts and drawings. Sometimes it fits better for him to be totally into all this stuff and be that gross otaku trope (with body-pillows, waifu-mousepads and kinks that are absolutely vile), sometimes it fits him better to just be aware of all that but not necessarily do it actively.
I guess the “default” state for us it that he has seen and actively read/played some stuff, so he is aware! But then again, he also seems like someone who wouldn’t want to see any smut with his precious waifus lol
We also don’t really headcanon characters’ sexualities, so I can’t really answer that question, sorry :( Whoever we ship them with, that’s their sexuality. So I guess they’re all gay lol
Anonymous asked:
I feel a bit stupid for not knowing this but the comic where Azul discovers the tattoo on Idia’s lower stomach and Idia freaks out, is that a kink or something?
You’re not stupid, Anon! It’s inmon (lewd crest, womb tattoo), basically a hentai trope. I don’t know if there are any strict rules about these tattoos, but in doujins that I’ve seen they’re usually used to make a character having it uncontrollably horny lol “Stupid and eager to breed” kind of horny. So I guess it really is a curse of sorts. But sometimes a succubus-type character could have it.
Anonymous asked:
HAHAHA, I just read the ask about Kalim at Frollo's school... I liked that. You can see this dynamic ending HORRIBLE. I can actually hear Kalim playing popular music in class while Frollo pops a vein... I need Kalim to expand his harem, I need more characters to share Jamil's nightmare, haha! (I love Kalim, but Kalim💢💢)
Anonymous asked:
*I'm not sure if I wrote Frollo or Rollo (HAHA??) in my last anonymous ask abut Kalim in NBC, thank god these are anonymous, is 2 am here, I'm sorry
No worries, Anon, neither of us even noticed that you wrote Frollo until you pointed it out lol
Oh poor Rollo… He really got lucky that neither Kalim nor the Tweels or Lilia went with the NRC guys that year lol He wouldn’t be able to handle them.
And with Kalim being a student at his school, and Rollo being a school counsel president, he’ll HAVE to keep an eye on Kalim all the time.
And the worst thing is, there is no way Rollo is getting used to all this dancing and music and stuff, and there is no way Kalim is getting rid of all that either lol
Anonymous asked:
I will never understand why KaliJami and AzuJami fans fight. Jamil has two hands and deserves more than one boyfriend that he can barely tolerate.
See, maybe the last part is the reason, maybe Jamil’s psyche can’t handle two of these idiots messing up with his brain in two completely opposite (but equally annoying) ways lol If we asked Jamil, he would’ve probably said that his hands are not for Kalim or Azul to hold, and that he would rather drink rat poison.
Wow, he is so mean, that Jamil… Kalim and Azul both need to shower him with love asap lol
Anonymous asked:
Ruggie x Idia be like:
Ruggie: I can't believe you spend so much money on useless figurines. Talk about a waste!
Idia: Excuse you! Do you you know how much these will be worth in a few years?!
Ruggie:.......................Go on.
Yeah, pretty much lol This is basically their interaction in the Glorious Masquerade event. Ruggie has a lot to learn from Idia-the-master-of-anime-auctions…
Anonymous asked:
Post chapter 5 Epel: Did you know that Rook is a Neige Leblanche fan boy?
Pre chapter 5 Vil: What? Where did you here that from?
Post chapter 5 Epel: Rook.
Ahh, so this is what that ask was about!
A perfect opportunity to hit Vil where he expects you to hit him the least lol But I feel like even Epel feels bad for Vil when it comes to this topic, so I don’t know if he would do it. Although it would definitely be tempting at times, especially when Vil’s complaining about Neige under his breath and Rook’s just sitting there smiling and being awfully quiet…

are there any manga artists you particularly admire or are inspired by? what about their work do you like?
yes, absolutely! I could go on and on!
There are so many manga artists I admire, though some feel further off from anything I can or would want to make, and some are more direct influences, they’re all fun to read.
Here are a few favorites just on my bookshelf, ones I think about a lot…
Tumblr media
Naoki Urasawa
I really admire his sense of timing and ability to build tension, I think he’s really good at keeping a simple back and forth conversation visually interesting (something I struggle with and seek to improve upon!)
Tumblr media
Rumiko Takahashi
I’ve read a good amount of her work and find myself appreciating Maison Ikkoku the most. I like how she makes use of the environment, lots of gags play around with the old apartment building falling apart around them, the street that freezes over in the winter, the train that passes by and drowns out the tail end of a sentence. It makes the world feel so lived in!!
Tumblr media
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko
He has been an animation director and it shows! I really admire his sense of clarity and momentum from panel to panel, page to page! I wish I could add more pages.. but he’s so good at guiding the eye and keeping the viewer/reader oriented in action scenes, and his draftsmanship is just insanely solid. He has a sense of timing that I think is informed by animation or vice versa, I feel like it slows the pace down to something closer to real time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bisco Hatori
I would include whole volumes if there was space… but I love her ability to make a “moment”… to slow your heartbeat down and make it pick up again. I also think she’s good at getting creative with camera angles and using simple set ups while keeping it visually interesting. I think Ouran starts out a little chaotic but gets a lot smoother as it goes on.
I love how she lets a bubble build and then pop! before it can get too serious… she created a story with a lot of flexibility in terms of tone!
I also admire how much fun she has with lettering and speech bubbles, it reminded me that, while comics are a visual medium, sound is something useful and highly effective. I feel like I can hear her characters when reading and find it really inspiring.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hiromu Arakawa
She’s so good at dynamism and motion. I can’t say I’ve applied it, but I wish I could. I also really like how she handles cross cutting between different scenes, the A and B plot, on paper. I often find myself in awe of her scene transitions!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fumiko Takano
Beautiful beautiful beautiful lines… this is just one quick moment of many but I love how you can feel time swell.. the camera pulls out, the day is at an end. She achieves so much with just pen and ink and the occasional screen tone and I admire her pen(cil) mileage a lot.

Obey Me! Demon Bros React to a GN!MC Who is A Popular Comic/Manga Artist
A/N: Ayo! This is my first time making a headcanon so you could tell that I'm quite nervous about this. Idk if someone had already made this hc but it's stuck in my head that I can't focus on other stuff. Anyhow, I hope you guys enjoy reading this!
Summary: How would the demon bros react if they discovered that MC is a popular comic/manga artist in the human world.
Genre: Fluff
Warning: I got too eager to make this and it got a bit lengthy (esp. Levi's part) (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
MASTERLIST
Lucifer
He already knows that you were a popular comic/manga artist the moment he read your file.
But he had no idea that you were THAT popular.
One time he went to a comic con with you to show his support, and a lot of people lined up in front of your table in a snap just to get their copy signed. He couldn't even tell where the long queue ends.
He doesn't read comics/mangas so he doesn't know how your works became so popular in the human world.
So he decided to read some of your works to understand the hype.
He was surprised. He now knows why your comics/mangas were successful. The story of your works was well-written and the art style is really good. And he enjoyed reading it, though he wouldn't tell you that.
He felt proud of your accomplishments and the fact that your talents are recognized by the world.
He is now one of your fans. His pride wouldn't let him admit it tho.
Mammon
I have a feeling that he would know after seeing your name in an article online about popular comic/manga artists.
He'll barge into your room and start saying things like "Why didn't ya tell me you're a popular comic/manga artist up in the human world? You're supposed to tell me things like that, remember? Since I'm your first man and all."
He'd then ask you things like "How much do ya earn per work?" or "Are ya planning to team up with someone? If ya like I could team up with you."
"Sorry, Mammon. But I don't have plans in collaborating with other artists yet."
He'll give you a dejected puppy look.
He's sad that you don't plan to collaborate with him, but he'll still support you. He IS your first man after all.
He would read all of your works starting from the first one until your most recent work.
Congrats, you've got another fan of your works.
Even though you don't accept collaboration requests yet, he would give you ideas for your ongoing work. This helps you a lot in making your newest work's story/plot.
Acknowledge him in your newly released work and he'd be over the moon.
Leviathan
He would know your not-so-secret secret in one of the comic cons he was attending.
He's going on for days talking about this manga that he started reading and how it's so well-done and how he's been looking forward to meeting the artist behind it in the comic con he'll be attending next Saturday.
He even suggested that you should start reading the series with him. Little did he know that you were the artist behind the manga he was talking about.
Imagine the surprised look on his face when he saw you in the comic con, sitting with a table in front of you and a pen in your dominant hand while smiling at him.
Realization hit him. You were the artist who made the manga he so much enjoys. Wait, if you were the artist behind the manga he was reading, then--
Levi.exe has stopped working.
He doesn't know how to react to the truth bomb you just dropped in front of him. He felt like his soul had just re-ascended to the Celestial Realm.
Marry him now.
"Umm, Levi" you waved your hand in front of his face. "Do you want me to sign your copy?"
Your question snapped him back to reality.
"Y-yes, please!" His hands shook from nervousness and shock, and a shade of red had spread across his face and ears.
"I'm glad you liked my series. I appreciate it."
The poor snek boi's heart just stopped.
When you two got home from the convention, he straight up went inside his room and locked himself up.
Remember how he acted around Simeon when he discovered that he's the author of TSL? Yeah, he's giving you the same treatment now.
It took him a while before he started acting normal around you again.
Sometimes though, you could see him being star-stricken with you.
Satan
"Oh, cool."
That was his reaction until you told him the title of your most recent work and its synopsis. Which included two of his favorite things in the three realms-- cats and mystery stories.
If he doesn't have a plan to read it before, he has now.
He is in awe of how well-written the story is and how your art style contrasts the theme of the story.
He would definitely tell you his opinion about it after he finishes the whole series in record time.
If you'd like, he could help you write a sequel to it. Heck, he already has an idea of what the story should be about.
Asmodeus
He would know your profession when he accidentally saw your drafts scattered on your study table.
"Oh, hon... why didn't you tell me that you're a comic/manga artist? Your art style is really good."
He'll give you a lot of compliments after this.
Not surprised when he discovers that your works are very popular in the human world. (He discovers this with the help of Levi). Who in their right minds would dislike a work as good as yours?
Expect that your works would be trending in Devilgram a few days later. Courtesy of yours truly.
He feels that your works should also be recognized in the Devildom, just like his beauty.
He's careful not to post major spoilers after Levi nagged at him nonstop when he accidentally posted one online.
Would ask you to make a comic about himself.
Beelzebub
"Oh, cool." (2)
He's not particularly interested in reading comics/mangas but he will support you nevertheless.
He volunteered to be your bodyguard when you told him you'll attend a fan meeting arranged by the publishing house next week.
He's worried for your safety. He knows how chaotic it can be when meeting your fans. He already has experience with rogue fans.
When you're in a rush of meeting a deadline and you can't afford to join them for dinner, he will be the one who would bring your dinner to your room. You can't work with an empty stomach, after all.
He's totally a keeper.
Belphegor
"Oh, cool." (3)
He may seem to not pay attention whenever you talk about your job but believe me, all of his attention is on you.
He doesn't have the motivation to read all of your works but he'll still be one of your biggest fans.
He has a favorite among all of your works. You'll sometimes see him reading it over and over again if he's not sleeping.
When he's in the mood, he'll even help you proofread the chapter you're currently working on. He doesn't care if it spoils him in the process.
If the chapter you're currently working on includes things about astronomy, he'll gladly help you with it.

You guys I recently started reading Witch Hat Atelier (amazing manga), and I knew pretty much nothing about Kamome Shirahama going in, but her art is absolutely beautiful so I was just looking up a bunch of artwork by her and IMAGINE MY SHOCK AND DELIGHT when I find in her body of work:
Tumblr media
Yeah so apparently Shirahama worked on a bunch of the covers for the 2016 Doctor Aphra comics.
I can't believe I literally already had seen her art a long time ago because I had a huge Star Wars phase and those comics were literally my favourite ever.
I don't even know how many other people will even appreciate this like I do because neither of these series are exactly mainstream pieces of media but this made my day so have this fun fact on the house anyway.

A little rant about leaks because I'm lowkey dreading them. And I'd appreciate it if you'd read it (and if not... 👁👁).
I find the jjk fandom's (though it's true for others too) reliance on leaks very off-putting. I know people want to look forward to something in the middle of the week and talk about it, but this just feels disrespectful, while also being at the cost of other people getting to enjoy it as they want to whether you care about getting spoiled or not.
So many people just don't tag leaks and spoilers properly (forget places where tagging doesn't even make a difference). Seeing things trending with the context of previous chapters explains everything. Not to mention people mis-tagging spoilers and leaks interchangeably (you can remove leak tags after the chapter is officially published but not spoiler tags!!) And no, you're not subtle with your 'out of context spoilers' to someone who has all previous context.
But what boggles my mind is why would you want someone to shout the punchline of a joke in your face before any of the setup has been done. You'll have a bunch of deepfried 2 pixel screenshot of screenshot quality manga panels of crucial moments with none of the build up and pacing. Paired with the most lacklustre explainations of what's happening (the phrasing of which can be biased to the leaker's opinions). Translating isn't easy. To convey what exactly something means from one language to another in an effective and in the intended way isn't easy (shoutout to fan translators tho y'all are amazing thank you for your time and effort)
And whether you care about the story or not, heck even if you think the mangaka themself doesn't care about it, it is just so disrespectful to the content that you're consuming. Making comics and manga isn't easy (churning them weakly is insane imo esp when a lot of mangaka aren't even full time artists) so why wouldn't you allow yourself to consume their story the way they've themself laid it out. Where one panel comes after the other. Where one expression has context in the next page. Where a dialogue has weight only when placed with another dialogue. Give the creator(s) this little grace too, because whether you like a story or not, there is still a huge amount of effort and skill, by multiple people, going into it.
And I personally love interacting with the fandoms I'm in, literally sometimes the only source of joy I have (yes ik leave me alone) is interacting with other fans and having my mind blown over their art and writing and theories. And I'd rather not be spoiled unless I'm myself seeking them out or just reading the actual chapter. So this involves me either spoiling it for myself before someone else does it, or spoiler dodging for 5 OUT OF 7 DAYS A WEEK EVERY WEEK.
I'm not even saying you should only look for official sources or whatever because I know not everyone has access to legal places to read (tho the shounen jump app is there for those interested, but yeah i get it for other publications), but there are better ways to read/hate-readyour fav/least fav manga out there without ruining it for someone else. The wait is juuust a couple of days more. There is absolutely no dearth of fan made content that can't help you last another few days, maybe your new fav fan creator is right around a little wait (ahem check my bs out if you'd like ahem ahem).
I just want to be able to interact with the fandom for more than just 2 days a week, and I don't like my accounts dying because i dissapear 5 days either, and is that a such a bad thing? I come online to have fun, not run an obstacle race y'know?

Gintoki doodles. Getting back to it little by little.
I think I'm gonna keep self-indulging in Gintama art this year, surprise, surprise. I'm gonna keep mending the damage all that art school teachers did, all those artists that think they have all the right answers and don't like when you draw those "chines characters" (I wish I was just being dramatic, but it was like this). Fuck that guy that once made fun of the "hairy line" I sketched with, fuck the guy that told me "oh, you like manga" in a tone of disappointment, fuck the guy that told me not to ink tracing my pencils 'cause it was the wrong way, fuck the guy that told me "hair is easy, It's just a mass". I'm very thankful for my high-school (I guess it was high-school, dunno) teacher that let me draw a comic when I had to mix the industrial revolution with any art style, I probably never appreciated it enough as a teen, but now, as a grown-up, holy shit, I wish I had a copy of that idiotic comic. If you're into art, you do you; if you're self-taught, go you, you fucking got this; if you're in art school, doubt if a teacher comes to you with the right answer, there are no fucking right answers. Indulge in the art you want, fuck professionals with the right answers.

Because I’ve been reading The Walking Dead and Dungeon Meshi at the same time, I’m going to extrapolate from them to make a claim about American comics vs manga in general.
The trade paperbacks of The Walking Dead don’t include single issue covers. They don’t include any indication of where one issue ends and the next begins, and it can be hard to tell. While the story does feel broken up into chapters (each "chapter" being six issues long), it feels like the individual issues all flow together.
Dungeon Meshi, on the other hand, feels very episodic. There is absolutely an overarching plot and there is consistent character development, but it feels like these are furthered through specific episodes. Unlike the Walking Dead, each issue* feels like its own story.
(*I'm not sure what the actual term for a single issue of a manga is. It might be chapter, which would be confusing in this context given TWD's notion of a chapter, so I'm going to use the word "issue.")
So, two questions.
Question one: To what extent can we extrapolate from this and say that manga are more episodic than American comics?
From my own understanding of American comics (which is pretty good), I would say that many contemporary comics from the Big Two do feel not particularly episodic. It's hard to separate issues out and remember what happens in a specific issue because there's not anything that particularly defines a specific issue. Some superhero comics feel like they are serialized only because that's the convention and not because the creators really want to work in a serialized medium.
I would also say that I can think of at least five exceptions to that off the top of my head.
My understanding of manga is much more limited. I've read a handful of manga in the last couple of months, and while I do think that most of those felt episodic to me, it's hardly enough to be a representative sample. Moreover, my tastes may simply incline towards more episodic manga and perhaps the genres I have thus far avoided (such as shonen) tend to be less episodic. I would appreciate the opinions of people who have read more manga than I have!
Question two: If we accept that this distinction is correct (which, again, we do not have to accept), how much of that difference is ascribable to the difference in publication and distribution?
It would seem to me that a manga that is published in magazine form alongside issues from other series has an incentive to be a self-contained episode. If someone is buying the magazine for a different series and happens read your issue as well, you want to present them with a story that is self-contained enough to make sense and to have a decent pay-off within the issue. Whereas, given that current American comic buying practice requires you to request an issue weeks in advance of its release, there is less incentive for American comic artists to make a single issue stand out as its own story.
And if the distinction is correct (not proved) and if publication norms play a role in causing the distinction (also not proved), then I wonder how the increasing digital sales of both manga and American comics has affected and will continue to affect the ways that the two media tell stories.

EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME
tagged by @littleragondin mwah🥰 these are not all my most fave but they all represent a bit of me so i find them suitable
W.I.T.C.H - now i'm not gonna pretend to be the biggest fan but this used to be THE show for me before WINX came along and i'll always pride myself on being a witch girlie first and winx girlie second (the "not like other girls" syndrome began very early on for me); their powers, the visuals, the adventures combined with the daily struggles of teen girls, the boyfriends, the intro song omg, there is sm about this show, the countless books, the og comic.. good stuff <3
Tumblr media
also those two >>>
Tumblr media
Lovely Complex - my first anime iirc, i wish people would pay attention to it (but also i'm the only one who's allowed to get it, y'know); only a young romantic towering over her classmates could have the chance of understanding my feelings for it
also read the manga <3 but uh you can skip the live action lol
Tumblr media
Hana Yori Dango - broooo- bro. this show was made for my basic romantic ass, it was my first asian drama (or one of the first), it introduced me to Matsumoto Jun, had me hooked for two seasons (though im pretty sure i binged the second season and movie in 24 hours, long after i had watched the first season..? idk what that was about)
i am of the opinion f4 thailand did best in many ways but this will forever be THE adaptation in my heart. the songs were unmatched, the drama breathtaking (there are so many cliches that i didn't know were cliches back then lol) and the experience surreal. i'll always treasure this questionable classic 💖
Tumblr media
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? - i enjoy this an unreasonable amount - my country's edition, that is; i just like having it in the bg and being a smartass, sometimes i run my mouth off so confidently and proceed to apologise to the tv when the contestant turns out to have been right lol
Tumblr media
Weekly Idol - hear me out on this - aside from all of its issues, the show has always been my way of finding more about groups. especially back in 2015, those low quality episodes on yt helped me so much with getting into kpop; it can be very hit-or-miss but i have so many faves; many artists have been on multiple episodes throughout the years and yet show something entertaining every time. you can find new groups to stan through the mixed episodes and learn more about the members of groups you're already interested in (though for that i also rec individual shows like gose, wanteez, monsta x-ray etc.). i'm especially excited for eunkwang and minjoo as the new hosts, they are so funny on their own and i want to see their dynamic so bad
Tumblr media
Pride & Prejudice - i've watched this just once but i can't not appreciate the accuracy to the book (except for the iconic lake scene lmao) and it covers british tv, 90s shows, austen books and period dramas all at once - all things i enjoy
Tumblr media
Bridgerton - i had a whole piece written bout this but simply put - season 2 and kathony were a Thing for me. got me researching and binging a bunch of jonathan shows, reading most of the book and a bunch of tumblr posts..even looking through gifs now im going feral, i love them
Tumblr media
New Girl - i usually play shows like this in the bg but i found myself paying a lot of attention and actually losing it laughing so many times, also nick and schmidt are the most precious intense bromance i've witnessed in fiction

Numbah 9
Your OC enters a massive bookstore. It is broken into genres and other book related items. Pick a section and tell us what they will get, if anything. -Comics/Graphic novels
MAN I wanted to answer this a week ago, but the good news is - I got a week to think about some very good answers :D
Nita: Would probably be into IDW Sonic (but I might be biased) and some of the better comics for younger audiences on the shelves. She'd go in for indie books, too - especially the ones with really great art that deal with the human experience. I ALSO think she has a thing for buying comics in Spanish as a more exciting way of keeping up with slang than just calling the fam or friends. I used to do this as an attempt to look cool and know what I was doing when speaking to friends in another language. Unlike me, Nita can actually pull it off.
Caj and Cherry: Caj is into DC and Cherry likes Marvel. They have intense debates. Though Cherry will concede that Batman is the shit and Caj really likes Venom.
Sparkles: The biggest comic fan of them all. I got it in my head some time this past year that Sparkles might actually be a really good visual artist. She'd appreciate comics in all their forms. Definitely has a sub to the new Gargoyles books and Battle Chasers. Again, I might be biased. But yeah, I think Sparkles would have a legendary collection of back-issues.
Eden: Got into Junji Ito at Toki's suggestion and never looked back. But outside of body horror stuff, also devours manga collections in general. She likes Inuyasha, Sailormoon, Dragon Ball, and all the classics (and there's just so much to catch up on, since she's basically been living in a cage her whole life). Also likes more contempoary things like Jojo, One Piece, and Demon Slayer.
Best. Question. Ever. :D
