joshua ran his hand through his hair, letting out a small sigh. he was reading a book but his mind seemed unable to focus as the words and sentences didn’t make sense in his head. 

“you’ve been reading this one single page for ten minutes now, your highness” he heard seungkwan’s teasing voice and just looked up at his friend. 

“i’m aware of that, seungkwan” joshua mumbled and put the bookmark between the pages, leaving the item on a small table. 

he bit his lip and looked outside the window, the sight of mountains bringing him some peace.

joshua’s mind was uneasy due to the late return of his army. and his absence at the battlefield. 

the news of victory brought by his right hand and good friend, minghao, definitely caused him to sleep better. but before that, there had been weeks of days filled with stress and anxiety. and now, for  unknown reasons the army’s arrival was postponed – and there was no message. 

“i’m sure general l/n has everything under control” seungkwan’s voice brought joshua back to reality and he subconsciously smiled upon hearing your last name. 

maybe that was the reason why he was constant concern. he was worried about you. no, it wasn’t like he doubted your fighting abilities it’s just… anything could happen on the battle ground. besides, you weren’t a bender. obviously, every caring prince would be worried about his subordinates. the matter was that it was your first serious battle all alone. usually he was there too. or at least seungcheol, who was his father’s military advisor – also very skilled in combat. but due to his injury and the medics sharp warning he wasn’t able to go. 

joshua sighed quietly and stood up, lazily walking up to his balcony. the cold air hugged his face, a refreshing breeze filling his lungs.

another cause of his stress was… well, you’re a woman. it’s not like women don’t hold high positions in society and are well respected in the water kingdom but… army was mostly men. who knew if any of the soldiers didn’t cause you trouble. 

“i don’t think that the ball is a good idea…” joshua mumbled, tracing shapes on the marble railing. 

“whether you like it or not, your mother had already decided. majority of our alliances arrived” seungkwan shrugged and turned around upon the sound of knocking. joshua looked through his shoulder, expectant. 

it was minghao. 

it must have been good news since he was shining. 

“they’re here” 

before the prince could pass him in the door, minghao cleared his throat. 

“y/n is resting though” 

joshua stopped in his tracks, not even realising there's a smile that appeared – dropped now slowly. 

“is she hurt?” he asked, worry in his voice. seungkwan closed the balcony door and joined the water kingdom’s prince's side. 

“no, no. not as far as i know. she’s just exhausted and needs to prepare for the ball. and the paper work, losses and such… it’d be better if you didn’t bother her” minghao suggested softly. “wonwoo is to your disposal though”

wonwoo, the lieutenant general. that’s fine, he’ll just ask about you. 

joshua nodded and left in silence. seungkwan and minghao exchanged playful looks. 

joshua could not sit still. his mother sent him numerous looks but his eyes weren’t focused at her at all. he scanned the crowd in search of you. 

his mother was oh so kind to postpone the ball to the next day, letting the soldiers rest. as he noticed, most of them made it. you surely would be here too, right? you were the general after all. 

then it struck him like thunder. 

there you were, in the midst of people. a flowy, light blue dress on your body gently falling onto the floor. he knew you got the access to the best sewers in the kingdom but this time… your dress really reminded him of water. maybe it was the silver linings in it? or just the lightness of the fabric? either way, you looked angelic. and with your hair loose, falling like waterfalls on your shoulders. 

as the great warrior you were, you sensed his gaze on you. sending him a small smile, looking from above your companion’s shoulder, joshua sighed dreamily. 

your lips moved and then you walked past the man you talked to, stepping directly into joshua’s direction. he cleared his throat, his sight on you. 

“my queen” you hummed and bowed gently to his mother first, then you held eye contact with him with another bow “my prince”

“general l/n, you’re truly the shining star of our army. we’ve heard the tales and i must say, i admire your vigour and dedication” his mother said. you bowed again.

“thank you, my queen. i’m proud i can serve our country” you nodded, smiling gently. joshua adored your face, not being able to get enough of it. especially after your three-months long absence. 

“mother if you don’t mind, you’ll hear the stories later. now i’m going to kidnap general l/n for a minute” 

before you knew it, his hand tenderly interlocked with yours as he lead you to the dance floor. landing in the middle, below the silver chandelier that lit up your face in the prettiest ways possible, the prince placed a feather-light kiss atop of your hand. 

the music started, the royal sounds of cello and violins ripping through air; joshua led the dance, his ebony eyes scanning your face. his features were overtaken by the look of how much he missed you, you could tell it by his eyes only. the soft curve of his smile made your heart melt, fingers brushing against his neck. 

“so beautiful” he hummed deeply, heart almost aching with joy. why was it like this? he thought he thought it through but now he was just confused; why does his heart hurt when you’re finally within his reach? 

”so, so beautiful” joshua repeated, daring to glance at your lips “i missed you dearly” 

you huffed, letting him sway to the rhythm of music. because he was an excellent water bender, he was one with the flow – whether it was his element or music. he guided you through the sounds of instruments, which made you emotional. hearing the sound of them after months away from your homeland… 

“aren’t you tired? are you fine?” joshua asked, care in his voice. he had you so close yet so far. in his arms but unable to caress your cheek or kiss your lips. 

you shook your head, scanning his face. maybe you missed him too, after all. 

“i’m perfectly fine now” you whispered and his look was more expressive than words; he understood what you meant: you missed him too. 

the melody came to a halt and it was like a string snapped in front of your eyes, the sudden sound of chatter making you go back to reality. 

“i’m sure there’s plenty of young ladies willing to dance with you. i shall not keep you busy” you said. joshua opened his mouth, protesting. 

“let’s take a trip down a darker place, the garden has really improved when you were absent” he almost whined, begging with his eyes so you’d spare him even a mere moment alone. 

suddenly, wonwoo approached you. he leaned in to whisper something in your ear, concern on his face. you nodded, features getting colder than snow blasting in the harshest of winters. he knew that look, it meant trouble; it meant an approaching threat.

“i’d be more than willing to. however, there happened to be an urgent matter that needs to be taken care of. i…” you hesitated and sent a look to wonwoo. he understood since he left right away. only then quiet words left your mouth “i’ll meet you in your chamber later, shu” 

his heart skipped a beat, nodding. his eyes followed your figure, finally at peace that you’re back.

an outsider would never think that you’re a general, one of the skillest people in the kingdom when it came to combat. whilst being a non-bender, which was quite impressive. you were just so… flowy, glowing and gentle. oh, gentle you truly were… 

“...the fuck you mean we had a tail?” you hissed, poking wonwoo’s chest and then taking a deep sigh “well fuck me, that’s just fucking great!”

“i bet your highness would want to do that” wonwoo cleared his throat, your hand slapping his arm in an instant.

“lieutenant general jeon, i ask you to behave accordingly to the situation. there is a risk of coup, the life of the royal bloodline is on the line and you dare to make a joke?” you said coldly, making wonwoo shiver. then, you suddenly snickered “i do admire your timing though. and now tell me more” 

you and wonwoo were close, it’s not like it was out of his manner to joke like this. but the fact that there might be a spy in the castle right now… 

“chan came across the traces and him and others made an assumption we’re followed by an fire nation soldier who survived the battle” wonwoo gave you the details. 

your light dress rustled on the late afternoon wind, breeze running through its fabric. you closed our eyes, fingers tightening on the marble railing of a terrace. 

there were two choices in this situation: announce there might be a spy and transport the royal family into a guarded place, which may result in panic and rumours spreading (including those about your incompetence). however, the spy might run off or give in. the second option: stay silent and don’t let anyone suspect a thing, take care of the spy with your own hands. risks: people getting hurt, especially the king or queen. or prince. 

“do we know where they might be now?” you asked, looking through your shoulder at the crowded ballroom. chatter, dancing, music… people living to the fullest. and joshua being there too. 

“we do have suspicions that they might be nearby, we found some traces near your… your, um, house” wonwoo answered, your eyes shifting. 

“so they want me, huh?” you sighed. that was far better than the royals getting hurt. staring at the sunset, a wide palette of oranges and yellows melting into one, you nodded. “inform the guards, keep an eye on any suspicious activity. i’ll go check if they’re still around my place. report immediately if anything happens”

“yes, general” wonwoo saluted and walked away, feeling the breath of urgency on his neck. 

adoring the sunset for a little longer, watching it morph into a navy night sky; you decided to go before it got too dark. 

joshua was walking around his chamber, footsteps echoing due to the largeness of it. it was past midnight, almost 6 hours since you left the ballroom… did you change your mind? you didn’t want to come? 

he let out a deep sigh, plopping on his bed and staring at the book he was reading. 

joshua was a prince and enjoyed literature, he has read countless and countless books and genres. he especially found an interest in old romance but all of them had a similar scheme when it came to relationships: the woman was the one to be head over heels whipped for the guy. she’d blush when someone mentioned his name, she’d miss him dearly when he’s on his adventurous voyages, she’d dream of him even in her sleep. he never read a book with an opposite order of things. and yet… here he was, waiting for you like a lost puppy. while his heart sought after you, his mind was worried about your wellbeing during your army shenanigans, he longed to hear, see or touch you even for a mere moment longer. 

huffing like an displeased child, he laid on the bed. if you come, you come. and he’ll be asleep. that way, you’ll know he doesn’t cares that deeply—

knock knock. knock knock knock knock. 

joshua frowned, sitting up. it could be you but… it wasn’t your usual knock.

the door opened with a quiet creak. you were leaning against the doorframe , upper body leaning forward with hair falling on your face.

“took you long enough” joshua mumbled and stood up, when you suddenly started sliding down the doorframe lifelessly. he ran up to you, kneeling down and grabbing your hands. frighteningly cold hands “what’s wrong?”

his voice remained strong unlike his heart. you gathered all your willpower and raised your head, fighting the dropping eyelids. 

“my back…” you croaked out, leaning forward but only ending up in his embrace. 

he did not image your reunion like that. 

joshua gently moved his hands to your back and his fingers met with something… sticky…? the flowy material of your dress was ripped, the warmth of the liquid contrasting with the low temperature of your body.

“y/n, what happened?” he asked, voice stern yet revealing a hint of worry. 

“i’ll explain later just… help me, shu. please” you breathed out, the air tickling his neck. joshua gulped, his adam’s apple bobbing, and he grabbed you in bridal style. 

placing you on his queen sized bed, rolling gently to the side, his mind was racing with thoughts. what happened? were you attacked? was it a fresh wound? 

“i’ll rip the dress, only on the back. i apologize, ill buy you thousands of new ones just… breathe for me, alright?” he stuttered, putting on some light. 

only then his eyes saw how serious was your wound. he took a sharp inhale, throat going dry. 

there was a deep wound going across your back, left arm to almost the side of your right hip. it looked like a sword left such a mark. 

joshua quickly opened the handy tap he had in his chamber and didn’t bother to pour it into bowl. 

he bent water straight from the tap, focusing deeply. trying to connect with his inner peace and energy but his rapid heartbeat seemed to disturb him too much.

“focus, jisoo” he grunted to himself, slender fingers shaking “y/n, talk to me. you need to stay conscious” 

“won’t talking take my oxygen that i desperately need–” you started.

“yeah, you’re right. be quiet” he scoffed, trying to light up the mood. then he moved his hands slowly from the beginning to your wound to the end of it. very slowly, surely. still like water, his palms flat but fingers directing the stream of liquid. you groaned, curling your back. 

it wasn’t the first time joshua was patching you up but it definitely was the first time he knew it’s dead serious… and seeing you in such pain. 

another thing was that at the back of his mind there was a sprouting thought that he won’t be able to close the wound completely. not with his heart all over the place. 

joshua took a deep breath, focusing on the element flowing through his body. not on you… in pain… bleeding out on his bed… 

“’m sorry” 

at first, he didn’t hear it. only when he heard a sob, he realized that it’s you. 

“hey, no. don’t apologize, that’s an order. it’s a deep wound, i know it hurts but im trying my best and we’ll talk it out later. 

inch by inch, millimetre by millimetre, thanks to his healing abilities your skin started clasping the wound. he wasn’t sure which technique to use – layer by layer or pieces at once but the crimson liquid pouring out of your pale back made him chose the first one. which will lead to leaving a scar. 

joshua began to feel worn out, despite all the hours of training that prepared him for such situations. but he knew that if he stopped now, you could die. 

“shu…” you mumbled, shaking like a leaf. your voice was quiet, weak. he felt time slipping through his fingers. 

brows knitting, sweat dripping down his temple, joshua shook his head. despite strength leaving him, he promised himself to restore as much as possible. 

you looked through your arm, pearly tears shimmering in the moonlight. joshua’s heart ached, as if someone put a needle right through it.

“i know, i’m sorry but i beg, a few more minutes…” he croaked, feeling lightheaded. 

“you’re exhausting yourself, stop it” a whisper escaped your lips “shu, please” 

“no, you need to live” he grunted. you frowned and tried to sit up, causing him to gasp “are you insane?”

“give me the bandage and go call the medics. i don’t want you to pass out” you ordered, reaching for his hand. 

joshua put the last ounces of water and energy into your body, leaning to close the tap. then, he dug in one of his drawers.

you were still bleeding but far less than when you barged in. he handed you the material and wiped the tears, sweat and blood off your face. 

“i’ve got this now. go get some help, please” you sent him a weak smile. 

joshua cursed mentally and left quickly. you were probably right.

once he was back with jun, jihoon and seokmin, they took care of you. the oldest one gave you some herbs that would put you to sleep as they worked on your wound. joshua insisted that it all took place inside his chamber. 

they were done around 3am, leaving you two alone. the prince managed to get rid of the blood stained duvet and covered you in a blanket that was on his couch. 

them, he laid down next to you. the moonlight shone on your pale face, parted lips making an escape for soft snores. your chest was rising up and down a lot more calmly, joshua could feel your energy being more vivid that before. it was stable now, like a steam of water in the woods rather than dried out lake. 

“you always have to cause some trouble, huh?” he scoffed and reached his hand out, caressing your cheek gently. even in deep slumber after getting hurt you were so beautiful. 

he noticed your brows furrowing and fingers twitching. your breathing sped up, yet you remained asleep. joshua observed you cautiously.

“no… don’t… don’t kill him” you mumbled, shifting in your sleep. his eyes widened, realizing you’re having a nightmare “anyone but… but my shu”

joshua’s heart melted on spot, pleasant warmth flooding his insides.

“you can’t even get a rest, can you?” he huffed and shuffled closer, guiding your head onto his chest. you instantly nuzzled closer, arms instinctively wrapping around his body. 

with an uneasy mind, he caressed your hair. your breathing calmed down so he wondered if the nightmare went away. 

joshua stuck his gaze into the open window, unable to relax. stars barely shone on the navy horizon, covered by clouds. it seemed like the sky couldn’t sleep either. 

upon stirring awake you instantly knew (even without opening your eyes) that you’re in joshua’s bed. it was much more softer than your bed but above all, it had the comfort. you felt warm and secure; cozy in his hold. joshua had his arm wrapped around you, fingers tracing shapes on your skin. 

peeking an eye open you noticed he’s holding a book with his other hand, eyes tracking the text. 

you wanted to stay like this forever. 

then, a stinging pain ran through your back and you trembled, causing him to shift his worried gaze at you. he gasped softly. 

“you’re awake” joshua hummed and leaned closer, placing a gentle kiss on your forehead. 

you melted because of the gesture, nuzzling further into his neck. 

“how do you feel?” he asked, worry in his voice. 

“better, much better. thank you, shu. i apologize for the mess i made” you mumbled, resting his palm on his chest. he put his hand over it, caressing your skin. 

joshua missed this so much. he missed you. 

silence was hanging between you two, an unspoken question of “what happened?” hanging above your head. 

“may i see wound?” he asked suddenly. you nodded, your hair tickling his skin. 

he helped you sit straight and handed you one of his sleeping cloth to cover the front of your body. 

joshua gently moved your hair from your back, his fingertips ghosting over your skin. goosebumps covered your arms.

“you know… you always say i’m so beautiful” you started quietly. joshua hummed in acknowledgment to let you know that he’s listening. then, he shuffled something closer and put it on the bed “but i’m not. i’m so ugly, joshua. my soul is ugly”

“that is not true, y/n” he protested sternly as his delicate fingers worked on removing the bandage. his touches were soft, almost as if he was afraid to touch you.

“i’m a soldier, shu. i hurt people. and yesterday… there was a spy. he sneaked up on me, threatened to kill you. and that triggered me i just… couldn’t bare that thought. and i saw red… he used my distraction and tripped me, slicing in the back” you stuttered, throat going dry “i’m a failure. i almost let him escape, your life was at risk and i couldn’t control my emotions…”

his movement halted for a while, the quietness od the room making your soft pants sound much more louder than you’d like to. 

“you are not a failure. you had led our army to victory, several times” joshua resumed and you felt the calming stream of water. then, you felt a soothing sensation spreading over your wound. 

joshua was bending to recover your wound, or at least make it heal quicker and more effectively. 

“yeah but… i’m a bad person” you mumbled, playing with your fingers. 

he stopped bending and put a new bandage over your wound, it still not being clasped fully.  

joshua patted your arm and you put his shirt on, turning around. 

“you know why i always say you’re so beautiful?” joshua asked and once you faced him, he grabbed your chin gently “obviously i mean your looks too but above all, i treasure your soul. you’re such a pure, dedicated human”

you swallowed, his soft features warming your heart. 

“this situation must have made you feel upset and not worthy but you’re so appreciated. my your subordinates, friends… by me. as much as i admire your readiness to sacrifice for me but please, i beg, don’t do it next time” joshua hummed, his thumb moving in soothing manner “i’d rather die myself than live without you”

“don’t say that” you scoffed, shaking your head gently “our country needs a leader”

“and i need you” joshua replied, moving his hands to cup your face “please, y/n. you’re so precious to me… so–“

“if you say beautiful i’ll smack you” you let out a laugh and he couldn’t help but share a smile. 

“but it’s true” he grinned and closed the gap between you two, lips crashing on yours. you shared a passionate kiss, a one that lovers after reunion share. 

but truth be told, you were like all those lovers in old tales. 

and maybe this time, there’s going to be a flawless ending: making it official.

➵ Rei enjoys silence with you, whether you're on a call with him or next to him watching him play through a single-player game, time together is his love language.

➵ Although Rei likes the quiet he loves hearing you ramble. He's the one you go to if you want to ramble or info dump your hyperfixations on. You always ask if you’re talking too much, but he always urges you to continue. He’ll smile to himself if he is alone or if you’re not looking at him.

➵ Rei loves playing co-op games with you whether it be battle royale or mindless shooting games or even story based games. He loves collaborating with you and sharing a story together. 

➵ Rei finds it endearing if you try to get into the games he had interests in, or anything he has an interest in really such as the idea of fostering a kitty for awhile since Kazuki has to clean up after 2 kids basically he doesn't want a third. But he would find it endearing unless your interest peaked in his line of work, then he'd tell you that it's a grim industry you wouldn't like.

➵ It's difficult to get Rei to admit that he likes anything with verbiage unless its about food, so most of his actions and gestures have meaning to them. 

➵ Rei is a protective lover and will shield himself in front of you if it means you're out of harms way, even with the little things. A car is driving in the rain through a big puddle of water? He'll dirty his suits just for you if it means you won't get hit with the water. He makes sure to walk on the outer part of sidewalks too so you feel safe even though you've said it wasn't necessary before but it's the thought that counts.

➵ As a man who doesn't speak much, Rei sure enjoys calls with you when you're not staying the night with him. When you go abroad for work or study purposes he finds it calming to be on call with you through the night or whenever you're free. It's more of a safety for him to know you're safe and doing well.

➵ Rei is extremely good with technology. He may not know how to use the oven or do laundry properly but he is the guy to go to for IT troubles. As a gamer of course he had to know how to fix and troubleshoot devices, especially when they have a little girl in the house who finds it funny to make cable spaghetti and plug random wires in outlets. 

➵ Rei is good with his hands, no not in that sense... well I mean… he's good with his hands as he handles guns and being meticulous with cleaning them. That goes for taking apart consoles too to troubleshoot them or fix PC problems as he hates going outside. Better learn at home before begging for a stranger to help you and tinker with your device with personal info on it right? 

➵ Rei is paranoid and anxious a lot. Even if he doesn't show it, it is the main reason why he sleeps in a tub, that and PTSD. His breakdowns are silent. They had to be, especially when he lived with such an abusive father. He doesn't cry in front of anybody, even you most times. He doesn't want to be weak in front of you when he believes he should be the one protecting you. He can cry silently, and only in the comfort of his cold hard tub.  He's only ever shed a couple tears in front of you once and it broke your heart causing you to cry with him. He hates seeing you cry, but he knows it is because you empathize with him. 

➵ Rei loves your touch, especially during those hard times. He's never admitted it to you before though, unless you count that one time he mumbled how much he loved your touch while he was half asleep, but you could tell. He's like a stubborn little kitty who loves pets but never asks for them, but you can tell. When you are alone with him in a room and he gives you that look, you know that look. He melts into your kisses and loves jawline and neck kisses. He also loves spooning you when the two of you slumber together, protective instinct coming in again.

➵ Rei is a sucker for morning cuddles and hates getting out of bed, or the tub, in the early hours of the morning. He loves being lazy with you and if he were to spew out anything affectionate it would be in those early hours. He is a light sleeper so if you tried to sneak away he’ll reel you right back into his arms.

➵ Rei adores it when you play with his hair and lets you mindlessly braid it when the two of you are sharing a moment together. He likes the feeling of your fingers raking through his scalp, it’s like a brain massage for him. He lets you style his hair into silly little styles and even trusts you to help him shave his sides when they grow out. 

➵ Rei doesn't do much PDA but he will let you hold his hand and he will drape an arm around you and pull you close to him if he notices someone eyeing you. You like flirting with him and making him flustered in public though, he gets shy so easily.

➵ Rei actually doesn't like being referred to as the useless one around the house even though he plays it off most days. When you're in the kitchen alone he'd linger around to ask you to teach him things like how to use the kitchen appliances or how to load up and run a dishwasher. He doesn’t care about what gender you are or what you look like, if you have a beautiful heart and treat him with care for a long time, he’ll fall for you. Have you noted that no one from Azula's family was shown to express love and affection towards her?

That is mostly true. Ozai's affection is clearly conditional (and full on manipulation at worse, like we see in the finale), Ursa canonically favors Zuko to the point that we never see her spending any alone time with Azula like she did with Zuko, and while Iroh gave her a toy like he did to Zuko the toy in question was so OBVIOUSLY wrong for a kid like Azula that it's comical AND show's he did not really know his niece at all.

But there is a constant exception.

Zuko's relationship with Azula is complicated. He clearly admires her strength and power, but he hates how she uses it. She lied to him many times, was seen apparently cheering Ozai on during the Agni Kai, tried to have him imprisoned and even said she'd celebrate being an only child - and then allows him to come home as a hero after Ba Sing Se, even though SHE had the control of the Dai Li and was not yet aware Aang could have survived, meaning she had nothing to gain from it.

And when she lets him know that if he's caught talking to Iroh people might think he is a traitor too, and explicitly says "Believe it or not, I'm actually looking out for you" Zuko drops his innitial suspicion that she wanted something and that's why she was helping him.

On The Beach, he just follows her when she say their old family home is depressing and they shouldn't waste their time there. When she's asking him who she is angry at, she mentions herself and Zuko explicitly says that is not the case.

He doesn't trust her and know she has a tendency to mock or full on lie to him... yet when he wants to know about Fire Lord Sozin he asks her about it, and lets it slide when she mocks him by saying he should make sure the royal painter got his good side - for a character as quick to anger as Zuko, that is a big deal. In Nightmares and Daydreams he also goes to her to find out if he'll be allowed at the war meeting.

More importantly:

1 - Iroh's infamous "She's crazy and needs to go down" line was only said because ZUKO, without anyone putting that idea in his head before, suddenly went "I know what you're going to say. She's my sister and I should be trying to get along with her"

2 - Zuko only jumped into the fight in Ba Sing Se when Azula was being cornered by Aang and Katara.

3 - Zuko looked genuinely shocked and even distressed when she was falling off that cliff. He just sounded so shaken saying "She's... not gonna make it..."

4 - In the writer's own words, Zuko felt no hate but only pity when seeing her breakdown. Katara tried to comfort him because, canonically, even though Zuko and Azula are enemies, this was never what he wanted because he still sees her as family. That's why the Last Agni Kai's music is not the epic you'd expect from a battle, but a tragic one.

5 - Aaron Ehasz, the lead writter for the show, probably the person with the most influence after Bryke, has REPEATEDLY said that he always felt Azula should have gotten a redemption arc, Zuko being an Iroh figure to give her advice and be the only one still by her side when all else was seemingly lost to her forever.

Even the comics (most of which I HATE, mainly because Azula's storyline checks nearly every box for "the mentally ill are inherently evil/less human, so it's fine if literally every other person on the planet mistreats them") didn't fully abandon their complex dynamic.

Zuko is not a perfect sibling, and for a long chunk of the story he seemed too focused on his own issues for Azula to ever be a factor in his mind (aside from the moments in which she was a potential/explict threat), but he DOES still feel a sense of obligation towards her, to the point that it made him do something no one else in their family had done before or since - actually look at Azula. Not the prodigious daughter/perfect weapon, or the problem child that is difficult to handle, or the pontentially deadly enemy that was in the way, but Azula.

His 14-year-old sister that got on his nerves a lot, was far from the kindest person alive, and that he had a ton of issues with, but that he could never fully hate or even be indifferent to. Because she's family. Because he remembers a happier time in which the gap between them didn't seem so big. Because if things had been slightly different he could have been her. Because he went from wanting to be her to seeing just how miserable her life ended up being - especially compared to the one he now had - and feeling deeply sorry for her.

A/N: as I told @asukiess the other day, I suddenly felt like writing these two kissing. I'd prefer it to be a little longer, but anyway, I love how it turned out.

"You care so much about everyone, Ladybug," the new cat hero's voice rang so softly in her ears. "Now it's my turn to take care of you."

Ladybug felt her cheeks grow warmer and warmer, and her heart swelled until it filled her whole rib cage.

She looked up at him in pleased disbelief and saw an extended hand.

She was deeply moved. She didn't expect so much softness and kindness from the part of a total stranger she met tonight for the first time, although she's just embarrassed herself by having a mental breakdown in front of him.

She felt her breath become uneven. She extended a trembling hand to meet his.

He helped her up to her feet.

She didn't feel like letting go of his hand.

His princely posture, his refined manners, and his extraordinary name made her weak in her knees.

Everything about this catboy was made of velvet.

He wore a royal outfit made of grey and black velvet that suited him oh so well, and a black velvet mask with a golden border.

His skin looked so velvety that she wanted to take his face in her hands and caress his cheeks until he started purring (though purring might not be exactly something to maintain his royal dignity).

The look of his cat eyes was as soft as green velvet.

Even his voice was made of the most precious sort of velvet, making her heart melt.

His lips must be velvety to touch, too.

And this hair tied up in a ponytail—God knows how much she longed to undo it and bury her fingers in these emerald green locks.

Things didn't get any better as the battle played out.

Quite the opposite: the more the night moved on, the thirstier Ladybug was getting.

She couldn't keep her hands off her new partner, disguising her desire to get closer to him as purely professional gestures necessary to save the day.

But when she unexpectedly ended up in his arms, she couldn't help it and flinched, like from an electric shock.

She couldn't focus on solving her lucky charm while being constantly distracted by the prince charming in front of her.

At one point, she found herself staring at him, her gaze lovesick and unfocused, her cheeks dusted with a cherry pink blush, absolutely unable to look away.

Ugh, it was so embarrassing. But there was nothing Ladybug could do. She suddenly found herself under some sort of spell.

He noticed her staring and cocked an eyebrow.

"Ladybug? Are you sure you're alright?"

He put his hands on her shoulders.

Ladybug didn't respond. His touch made her tremble. The feverish shiver started from her feet, quickly spreading up to the top of her head. She felt unexpected tears welling up in her eyes, blurring her vision.

She hated herself for being suddenly attracted so much to this beautiful boy who called himself Patte de velours, but she couldn't help it.

She knew she was a goner.

She knew that if he'd try to make a move on her right now, he'd meet no resistance.

She looked up at him through the veil of tears in a silent surrender.

And he seemed to somehow see the white flag as clearly as if Ladybug were waving it above her head.

So when he leaned in tentatively to see if she'd let him, she just tilted her head and opened her mouth slightly to give him better access to her lips, this sanctuary of love Chat Noir has been trying to reach unsuccessfully, begging him silently to finally kiss her.

She was meek, with her legs wobbling like cooked spaghetti, so he just took her in his arms bridal style and lifted her easily, as if she were a feather, and pressed her gently to his chest, and she placed her hands on his chest, fidgeting with the golden paw-shaped buttons of his suit.

Ladybug knew from fairy tales that when a princess kisses a frog, it usually turns into a beautiful prince.

But what usually happens when a prince kisses one (1) deeply infatuated ladybug?

She then turns into a trembling goo, a deeply infatuated Ladybug somehow managed to think before butterflies in her stomach turned off her brain, causing a total and complete blackout.

Alice in Borderland trailer breakdown Part 2

Hello welcome to the second part of the trailer breakdown analysis. You can find Part One here.

Chishiya backstory, thank god. Kuzuryuu’s game is being adapted, that’s great. I will say, the impact is complete dog shit compared to the manga. I doubt show only viewers will remember him. His impact was BIG in the manga. The reveal he was a game maker the whole time...woof.

I think the third image might be Chishiya leaving either Kuzuryuu’s venue or the Jack of Diamonds.

The setting for Kuzuryuu’s looks great, manga accurate. I love the whole vibes of it.

(Edit: I've been told in the third image you actually see the hearts banner above Chishiya so there we go)

There is a character in the manga who goes basically on a journey by himself, goes hiking. It seems An takes on his role. I do not hate this change (See? I don’t hate it all), I think cutting his character and combining him with An was a great choice considering the cast was large already. Also, more An is always great, very underused in the manga.

An and Kuina team up, it seems to be some sort of dodgeball game (so probably a Jack or Queen of Spades). I think that’s the blimp falling in the background. In the manga, we do see the blimps crashing down. Beautiful shot. Excited for this game, it makes perfect sense they’d team up.

Jack of Hearts my beloved!

Everyone looks great. I believe the third image is our Jack himself. He looks so much like his manga counterpart. Very excited to see his acting. You can see Chishiya behind him in the trailer (apologises it’s cut here).

I’m not sure if this game will be before or after Chishiya goes to the all diamond games. It might be his first game he stumbles upon, or the diamond games are all defeated and he decides to go at this.

Okay so this is a game I noticed in the trailer, I couldn't seen any specific main characters. It’s probably a spades game? I noticed in the third image that two people were on the same rope. So might be a clubs game? Or even hearts? It’s heard to decipher so I suppose we’ll wait and see. We saw a game called Elevator in season 1 in which they held onto a metal bar. This feels too similar so this might actually be one where they have to be the first to climb to the top.

This is interesting because it looks similar to the car An drives. If so, very strange choice to have An just...run people over. Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss.

Mira. The outfit looks great. The setting is beautiful. It’s a great contrast the chaos of everything else.

I love how dirty and bloody these two are compared to Mira’s venue. It’s great, they stand out.

So that’s it for Part 2.

Overall thoughts: I am very excited for these new games. Despite the annoyance of the whole Tatta thing, I’ll enjoy this either way. Now a thing I noticed. There’s not battle royale here, but there is a part where Arisu has a gun and screams for Usagi. That’s either when he and Usagi are fighting the King of Spades or Niragi is about to shoot her. I hope they don’t cut the battle royale, although with the Chishiya thing, there’s no real purpose for it I suppose.

Some Ideas/Headcanons for Abraxasverse GxK!

So, after having seen The New Empire, I already already have quite a few ideas for how it could fit into the Abraxasverse! I’ll write up a more thorough breakdown of how I’d do it sometime soon, but I figured I might as well start with some of the basic ideas. So, here goes!

- Just for a bit of context, I’m going by @zerm2v0hg’s awesome “Clash of Silver” fic as how the Abraxasverse’s version of GvK would’ve played out.

- Since GxK takes place in 2027, I’d have Ladon be officially introduced in 2025 and Shin in 2026 (both as Godzilla clones created by Apex), so they would both play a role in this version. Kiryu’s new body might still be under construction (since it took 5-10 years to build Mechagodzilla in canon, so I don’t know if 3 years would be enough time to finish building his second body after the first one sadly got destroyed in Clash of Silver), so I don’t know if I’d have him play a major role here, but either way his new body’s construction would be overseen by Project Powerhouse, the same division of Monarch that creates Kong’s new gauntlet in the movie. Maybe Ren Serizawa would be in charge of that project in this timeline, now that he’s not working for Apex anymore?

- For the events of The Hunted, I’d probably have it go pretty much the same way as canon, but I do love the idea of having Monster X be the one to go up against the Hunter mech rather than Kong, just because that way they’d be able to give Raymond Martin (aka Dickhead Tech-Bro) a Reasons You Suck speech while beating the crap out of his second-rate Jaeger ripoff.

- Scylla & Tiamat would probably still end up getting into fights with Godzilla or one of his sons, but while Scylla might still end up dying if the events of The Hunted play out similarly here, Tiamat probably wouldn’t, assuming that the potential backstory of her having a connection to Ozymandias is actually Abraxasverse canon.

- To give Godzilla & his allies more to do in the Abraxasverse version of GxK, I feel like it would make sense to incorporate the Xenilla arc into this portion of the timeline. So I’d have him land on the surface and start causing trouble for Team Godzilla at around the same time that Kong discovers Skar King’s hidden empire in the Hollow Earth, which would eventually lead to the final battle being a three-way battle royale between the Scarred Apes’ army (led by Skar King & Shimo), the heroic Titans (particularly Godzilla’s family, Monster X & Kong), and Xenilla.

- In this timeline, instead of Mothra being the guardian Titan of the Hollow-Earth Iwi civilization, it would be Leo. To me, that seems like a perfect way for him to be introduced into the Abraxasverse: as Godzilla & Mothra’s offspring who was born thousands of years ago, took up residence in the Hollow Earth during the Ice Age, and essentially “adopted” the surviving Iwi tribe after Skar King presumably abandoned them at some point. I’d also ditch the “prophecy” angle from the canon movie for Jia and just focus on her other connections with Kong & the Iwi, as Mothra already has a human link in the form of the Chen family.

- Godzilla’s transformation wouldn’t just be a random evolution/powerup; instead, it would be a side effect of his being badly wounded & infected by Xenilla during their first fight. Mothra would narrowly manage to cure & heal him (after taking him to Tiamat’s Arctic lair so he could absorb a bunch of extra radiation to fuel the healing process), but his appearance would still be permanently altered as a result. That’s where the elbow & tail spikes and the new color of his energy would come from, as he’d end up assimilating some of the crystal’s power for himself. As a beneficial side effect, his new form would also be immune to any further infection attempts by the Crystal Cordyceps.

- In keeping with that idea, Abraxasverse Xenilla would basically look like a fusion of the classic SpaceGodzilla and a more advanced version of Godzilla’s Evolved form, with white crystal spikes & plates, longer spikes on his elbows & tail, and red bioluminescence (to fit with the idea that the pink color of Goji’s Evolved form is a side effect of his partially undergoing that process but stopping it halfway through). I think it could also look really cool if he has crystal wings that unfold from his body when he needs to fly, and reform into a layer of extra armor around his torso when he’s on the ground. For how they’d look, I’m thinking maybe something like an all-white version of Tabuu’s crystal wings from the Super Smash Bros video games.

- Shimo would actually be the key to taking down Xenilla once she’s freed from Skar King’s control, as the heroes eventually discover that while Xenilla’s crystal armor has adapted to resist Godzilla’s atomic breath, it’s highly vulnerable to Shimo’s ice-breath. As a result, it ends up being a tag-team effort from her, Godzilla & Mothra (plus Ozzy managing to fight back from within) that ultimately brings the parasite down for good. It’s tragic, of course, given their past relationships with him, but they’re able to take some comfort in the fact that their victory also allows Ozzy’s spirit to finally rest in peace.

A longer, more in-depth breakdown of what I’ve got in mind will be coming soon, but I figured I’d see what you thought of the main bullet-points first. 😄

I've actually reached a point where I'm willing to call The Clash of Silver a part of AbraxasVerse canon. Hey, @zerm2v0hg! Have some canonization, as a treat!

Yeah, Kiryu being out of commission for a while makes sense, and it feels fitting that he'd be handled by Project Powerhouse. Ren could definitely use a job at Powerhouse after how his gig at Apex ended... and hopefully a therapist, depending on how he's been handling the whole "nearly got electrocuted to death and something happened to his brain but he doesn't know what".

AbraxasVerse Raymond Martin I feel can definitely stand to be less cartoonishly evil than his comic counterpart; maybe instead of gleefully trying to kill a pair of cubs after slaughtering their mother, his trauma from 2014 has reached the point where he simply can't stand seeing a happy family, human or monster, because it gets into his head that that ought to be him and his family. He's still a douchebag tech-bro who hates the Titans and would probably consider Monster X a traitor of sorts for embracing their new monster existence, he's just more clearly a broken man futilely raging against forces of nature because that's all he knows what to do now.

Scylla in MonsterVerse canon is a real nasty piece of work and while AbraxasVerse Scylla is comparatively better, I won't feel bad if she still ends up dying as a result of Martin's nonsense causing her nuclear feeding frenzy; this would be a good way for Ladon and Shin to make an impression on the world, that they're willing to fight to maintain the worldly balance just like their dad. Tiamat however has potential thanks to the Ozymandias backstory and I feel she can be better utilized in AbraxasVerse, especially in light of @tosho89's ritual idea...

Xenilla showing up here would be cool... maybe he was sent out to scout the planet in case a Titan of comparable power to Ozymandias has shown up in the time since that abduction? Leo being the Hollow Earth Iwi guardian could be a neat way to tie in MV!Mothra's reworking Phosphora/Phosphera's (how is that supposed to be spelled?) placeholder role without being too jarring.

Huh, Goji nearly getting infected is a GREAT idea for the sake of tension and sheer "oh SHIT" factor! He goes out of commission for a bit while Mothra heals him and Tiamat does her ritual, and he returns to the fore more powerful than ever... at the cost of becoming a beacon for the nefarious forces behind Xenilla's existence to home in on. And I am ALL FOR Shimo having more to do!

Cool ideas all around! I'm looking forward to seeing what else you've got!

So, you may or may not have seen, I've been posting Dangaronpa Ghost Photos as a daily october drawing and writing challenge

This is just a collection of asks about them, and I'll be posting a little breakdown of my thought process behind each character tomorrow

But first, the most pressing question:

I'm afraid not, it's just gonna be THH and SDR2 but I do appreciate the enthusiasm👍! I'll be honest, I kinda ran dry on the ideas front. It might be different if I'd planned it all out in advance, but since v3 isn't a direct sequel, it doesn't slot in as neatly with the prev 2 games. I'd have had to do a lot more juggling to fit it in and I hate to admit it, but I was already starting to repeat myself a little bit. There's always next year tho perhaps...

Fair point, Well we know what happens when you break ALL of them, But if you break a few all at once I think it'd the first option. They won't come for you at the exact same time though, the haunts cascade, one after the other depending on when you broke the rule, and how fast the ghost haunts you.

I did try to make most of the rules things that'd probably get you in trouble anyway if you were caught, but there's gonna be that one unlucky fecker who accidentally throws a new pen away and gets their ass ghost stalked by Nagito, no idea of what's going on.

@cat0901h3 Originally I was going to include a bit with Makoto as the headteacher The idea was that Junko lured you into the headteacher's office to kill you THERE, essentially framing Makoto, and starting up her whole campaign of despair again. I decided to leave it more ambiguous instead like the ending of THH, and have Junko be your unreliable narrator instead

Course this au crumbles a little if you look too hard since the sdr2 lot are actually dead and not in a simulation (and I did not plan this lol) I like to think of it like a Battle Royale situation. Junko set up the killing games but it never got outside Hope's Peak, it was kept under wraps. there wasn't an actual apocalypse.

In this scenario I do see Makoto as the headteacher, he'd probably know about the hauntings, hence why there are school policies in place that match the 'rules', I figure Hiro helps out a fair bunch working out the haunting parameters, they're trying to help their friends rest in peace.

A little creepy vibe was definitely was I was going for I think I like Chiaki's picture the most, I just really like how it came out with the screenshot vibe. In terms of story, honestly Sayaka's it was the one that inspired me to start the whole thing, and at the beginning it was the only one I had! Ooooooo wait how would you rank your whumpers in a fight? Like who would win a battle royale?

HA! YES!!!

Ok here's my breakdown:

Jackson would hit hard but he'd also go down hard. He wouldn't last past the first round...and I'm assuming there's no rules in this particular fight so he'd get demolished the second he hit the floor.

Thompson is coward. He would much prefer to be spitting insults from the sidelines than actually be in the ring. But toss him in there and he'd try his best. He'd run around a lot, getting a few quick shots in, but he'd be scared of getting hit and would try to kick wildly at his opponent to keep his distance. Once the fight went to the ground, he would get choked out in no time.

Bailey's a bit of a scrapper. He's inventive but cocky and would spend too much time taunting his opponent only to get a surprise cross and be done for. The stupid, stunned look on his face from actually getting hit would be something to behold.

Percy would puff out his chest and try to intimidate and/or sweet talk his way out of the fight until it was clear that he was going to get his ass beat. He'd end up curled up in the corner, weeping and pleading for his opponent to stop. It would be very satisfying to watch.

And, I hate to admit it, but I think the Captain would likely pull off the win. The man was solid as a rock but quick and sure with every hit. He spent a literal lifetime preparing for and fighting in various forms of combat and he lived for the moments when it got bloody and up close and personal. If Hawkins gave the Captain the upper hand for even a second, it would be over.

My preconceptions of Ace Attorney before actually playing the games

[Based on the whole franchise rather than any individual games since I don't know what happens in what game specifically]

I only remember like 3 character names but it seems like everyone has the weirdest sounding names imaginable

Before checking if The Great Ace Attorney was on the switch, I thought it was a sequel series to Ace Attorney and that Apollo Justice was the protagonist but it turns out it takes place in the late 19th century so never mind on that

There’s something heartbreaking that happens just before Christmas even though this is meme by the fandom every year. I think someone important to the main cast dies or something

Refining my new take on Apollo Justice (since I was wrong about what The Great Ace Attorney was) is that he’s actually in the first series and he’s Phoenix Wright’s nephew (either biological, adopted, or a found family situation)

The magician girl is Phoenix’s adopted daughter and she’s bffs with Apollo Justice

There’s a racist vampire. I think he’s in TGAA but either this series is an urban fantasy or there just happens to be one vampire who’s there for some unknown reason and everyone rolls with it

Phoenix went to art school but discovered that his childhood friend Miles Edgeworth (whom he hasn’t seen in years) had enrolled in law school so he also goes to law school so he can catch up with him

There’s this one guy who has a huge mental breakdown from law school and he goes through major depression but his friends try to help him through it (I’m sorry I can’t be more specific I really don’t know any of these characters names, I just recognize him from angsty fan art my friend has drawn before)

Happy Birthday Stephen "Dougray" Scott born on November 25th 1965.

In my opinion Dougray is one of the most underrated Scottish  actors, with his broad Scottish brogue he oozes Scottishness whenever he speaks in his native tongue.

After attending Auchmuty High School in Fife trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he was named most promising drama student and took the his stage name from his grandmother's surname, "Dougray

Scott's early work was in Scottish national theatre and television, first appearing in the series Soldier Soldier as well as on the stage in the Tim Fleming directed production of Wallace. Early television credits to follow included The Rover, Taggart: Nest of Vipers, Lovejoy, and Soldier Soldier. Scott followed this up with impactful turns in the films You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, Black Beauty, and Another Nine & a Half Weeks. Shortly thereafter, Scott could be seen opposite Drew Barrymore in the hit film Ever After, opposite Robert Duvall, Tea Leoni, and Vanessa Redgrave in the film Deep Impact, as well as the second installment in the hit Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible 2. 

He also starred in a film I mentioned the other day, alongside Dougie Henshall, This Years Love, look out for it, it is very funny and full of Scots, but set in London.

Scott also appeared opposite Kate Winslet in Michael Apted's Enigma as well as the 2002 film Ripley's Game, opposite Ray Winstone. During the last few years  playing  Colonel Jacob Kane in the series Batwoman. The series was cancelled after 3 seasons.  He has also appeared in La Cha Chis a dark comedy which also stars the excellent Rhys Ifans, it was written and filmed in South Wales in four weeks over the coronavirus lockdown.

At present you can find Dougray in the Irvine Welsh series Crime, where he platys troubled detective DI Ray Lennox. I’m really looking forward to the second installment, which will see the excellent English actor John Simm join the cast. 

In the second season Ray is ready to return to the fray at Edinburgh Serious Crimes, keen to prove he is fully recovered from his breakdown, I’ll say no more in case you haven’t watched series one, please go do it! Dougray has one a Scottish Bafta for his portrayal and just this weekend in the 50th International Emmy Awards was also awarded Best Performance by an Actor.   Vigil, set in Scotland won the Best Drama Series

In a post on social media, Welsh congratulated the Hollywood star, who he claims “battled for years” to play the lead role in Crime.

Dougray will also be in the Sky series  A Town Called Malice about a  family of petty thieves from South London who decamp to Spain to profit from an unexpected windfall. I’m also looking forward to the film, Irena's Vow telling the true story of Polish nurse Irene Gut Opdyke, who was  awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal for showing remarkable courage in her attempt to save Polish Jews during World War II. The film is based on the Broadway play of the same name. It is set to premiere next year.

Fate and Phantasms Viewers' Choice #2: Ophelia Phamrsolone

EDIT: Okay, so.... we might have mixed up what day our anniversary is. Sorry this is two days late! We’ll get it right eventually. Hello Fate fans! If you’re reading this, that means we’ve successfully survived until the end of our second year, and it’s time to celebrate! (That, and this post didn’t glitch out right at the end of us writing this like the last one did.) It’s time for our viewer choice builds, and not only that, but we have another gift for y’all too! We’re planning on doing these much more often, so you can expect one around the 15th of the month from now on.

Anyways that’s enough announcements, you’re here for the build! Today we’re building Ophelia Phamrsolone, wielder of the Mystic Eye of Prolongation, as well as the second crypter we meet on our battle royale. Obviously she has an important role in LB2, so expect spoilers below the cut.

She’s a Divination Wizard to score that eye we need, plus a Great Old One Warlock for some benefits from the Foreign God.

Race and Background

Ophelia was a human, but then she died. Now, thanks to the Foreign God, she’s a Reborn. That gives her +1 Intelligence and +2 Charisma, as well as an Ancestral Legacy for proficiency in Perception. Her superpower’s literally seeing things, so that’s no surprise. (Technically you can get two skills here if you want, but she was a human, so that’s 1 skill. Take the extra if you want, but this isn’t exactly a skill-based build.) You gain Knowledge from a Past Life, letting you add a d6 to a skill check Proficiency times a day. The crypters also get protagonist powers, sorry Guda.

Finally, your Deathless Nature gives you plenty of benefits. You have advantage against being poisoned as well as resistance to poison damage. You also don’t need food, water, or air, and you don’t need to sleep either so your long rests take 4 hours instead of the usual 8. Finally, you have advantage on death saves. You took a fatal wound before the big climactic fight even started and you lasted longer than the flame giant did. That’s pretty impressive.

We need an expanded spell list, so we’re pretending the Foreign God lives in the sewers so you can be a Golgari Agent. This gives you proficiency in Nature and Survival so you can cook those sweets you love, plus that extended spell list we were looking for.

Ability Scores

Intelligence is number 1. You are one of the seven greatest mages in the world, after all. One of the seven remaining mages in the world, by any count. Charisma is second, you’re bad at hiding your feelings sure, but a lot of your magic is inherited, so if we weren’t going warlock we’d go sorcerer. Wisdom is also pretty good. We don’t need it for much, but once again seeing is your power, so your passive perception better be decent. This means your Dexterity is only okay- Masters don’t really fight directly that much, so it’s not like you have to worry about your AC. Mages also don’t really have home gyms, which explains why your Constitution and Strength aren’t remotely good. We’re not dumping constitution though- that’s for Okita.

Class Levels

Wizard 1: You don’t start off dead, so we’re starting the build with your regular mage stuff first. That means you have proficiency in Intelligence and Wisdom saves, as well as Arcana to do magic and History to know about who you’ve summoned. You also get Arcane Recovery, that lets you recover a couple spell slots on a short rest once per long rest. Speaking of: you get Spells. You get a lot of spells, which you cast and prepare with your Intelligence. Unfortunately, like most of the characters in lostbelt 2 you don’t really do much, so quite a bit of these spells can be replaced by “your choice here”. We mostly picked the spells based on their thematic appropriateness to the lostbelt, along with Ophelia’s stated specialties of evocation and conjuration. When something comes up that’s a must-have, we’ll let you know. On that note, your first command spell is used to empower Sigurd’s attack power, and Faerie Fire does a good job of doing just that. Anyone in a 20’ cube gets blasted with glowingness for up to a minute, giving attacking creatures advantage to hit them. I doubt Sigurd needs that much help to hit Guda, but every bit helps.

Wizard 2: At second level you’re a Divination wizard, making you a savant at copying spells from that school to your spell book. That’s half the time and half the cost, baybee! You also get your mystic eye, a.k.a. Portents, at this level. When you finish a long rest you roll 2d20s, and record those rolls. You can then spend a roll to replace an attack, check, or save you can see with that number. That’s straight up your mystic eye ability- see the future you like, force the world to let it happen. Interestingly enough, this does not use your reaction. You also get a second spell we’d like to talk about, Entangle. You use your two other command spells to weaken Sigurd, and for some reason they’re both plant based, hence the background. Wizards don’t do plants. Unless they’re sewer wizards, I guess. Anyways, we’ll get plenty of plant-based hinderances to keep Sigurd from killing Mash, so don’t worry about that. We’ve got your mystic eye covered, plus all three command spells… congrats, this build’s over, everyone pack up and go home! …Fine, we’ll actually get to the lostbelt. I guess.

Wizard 3: Third level wizards get second level spells. Faerie Fire also hits anyone on your side standing in the area, so if you’d rather not teamkill we can use Magic Weapon to buff Sigurd instead. Eventually, that’s a +3 to damage and attack rolls, pretty sweet!

Wizard 4: Use your first Ability Score Improvement to bump up your Intelligence. That’s more powerful spells, plus you can keep more on hand for added flexibility.

Wizard 5: For your third level spells, Plant Growth is another debuff for Sigurd. Cast it as an action and it’ll block up a 100’ radius area, turning the entire range into super difficult terrain. Cast it over 8 hours, and you’ll ensure a good harvest that year. That would be super useful if you weren’t living in a population-controlled dystopia. Woops. You also get Clairvoyance, letting you see out of a sensor plopped somewhere you’ve been or like, around a corner. It’s not nearly far-range enough to see Surtr yet, but we’re getting there.

Wizard 6: Sixth level divination wizards know Expert Divination, so every time you cast a divination spell you can regain a spell slot from a lower level. Skadi’s pretty stringent with her supplies, so it behooves you to follow her lead. When in Rome and all. Or Scandinavia. You can also cast Sending now, delivering a 25 word or less message to anyone you’ve met before, though there is a 5% chance of failure if they’re in a different lostbelt. “Hey Kadoc, how’s it going, Surtr’s about to escape and turn the world into a barbeque please help, do do do doo do do do,” that sort of thing.

Wizard 7: Time for fourth level spells! Grasping Vine is yet another way to keep Sigurd under control, pulling him away from Mash while also dealing a little damage. More importantly, you can use Divination this level, allowing you to ask one question about the near future to a godlike being. If Arjuna could become a god by eating most of a pantheon, so can Surtr.

Warlock 1: Now that we have established connection with the Scandinavia Lostbelt, we can begin your resurrection in earnest. When you come back as a Great Old One warlock, you gain an Awakened Mind, allowing you to speak telepathically with creatures within 30’ of you. I don’t believe this is canonical, but it would make commanding Sigurd on the battlefield possible without giving away any strategy. You also gain Pact Magic, giving you a few spell slots that always come back with a short rest. Unlike most multiclassing options, these slots do not mix with your wizard slots, though you can use one class’s slots to cast spells from the other class. Hex deals extra damage, yes, but we want it more for its secondary feature, forcing disadvantage on one kind of ability check for the duration. If someone is trying to climb after you, weaken their strength checks to force them to fall. If they’re trying to find a secret, weaken their intelligence or wisdom checks. Your Portents are powerful, but sometimes a weaker option can be just as useful. You can also use Protection from Evil and Good to prevent futures where an ally gets frightened, charmed, or possessed by extraplanar creatures for the next 10 minutes. This also forces disadvantage if those creatures try to target your ally.

Warlock 2: Second level warlocks get Eldritch Invocations: small bonuses from the Foreign God to make your lostbelt experience unique. The Armor of Shadows lets you cast Mage Armor on yourself at will, greatly increasing your survivability against stray attacks your servants can’t take. Devil’s Sight gives you darkvision in both magical and nonmagical darkness. Sight is your greatest power, so anything that breaks your line of sight is a serious threat.

Warlock 3: At third level you gain a Pact Boon, and the Pact of the Tome is ideal for someone who needs plenty of spells, giving you an extra three cantrips as long as you wield the tome. Thorn Whip is another way to keep Sigurd back, pulling him 10’ towards you. Just make sure you use this on a friendly creature, you’re not built for melee. Druidcraft gives you an unfailing future sight, letting you know what the weather will be like for the next 24 hours, as well as other minor magical effects. You also gain Earthbind, locking flying enemies to the ground, preventing a future where they fly out of reach of your saber.

Warlock 4: For your next ASI, pick up the Chef feat so you can cook sweets for the entire crypter crew. You can give them extra healing over a short rest, and you can also spend an hour (or as part of your long rest) to create treats that can be eaten as a bonus action. Doing so grants your proficiency bonus in temporary HP, which is quite the boost given your normal amount of health.

Warlock 5: Fifth level warlocks get third level spells like Counterspell. In an ideal world, enemies wouldn’t cast spells at all. With counterspell, you can force your ideal into reality, shutting down spells lower than the level you cast automatically, or higher level spells with an ability check. You also get another invocation, and the Far Scribe invocation lets you write down names in your pact tome so you can cast Sending to those people without using a spell slot or any materials. You can keep a number of names equal to your proficiency modifier, so at level 20 you could keep in contact with every member of the crypters at once!

Warlock 6: At sixth level, goolocks gain an Entropic Ward, allowing you to force disadvantage on an incoming attack once per short rest. If it fails, you then gain advantage on your first attack against that creature on your next turn. The second part is just a bonus: you just want to live in a world where you don’t get skewered by an enemy servant. For another bonus, your final warlock spell is Spirit Shroud. The extra damage is tangential- we’re just here for the slow down effect on nearby creatures. Now you can drag Sigurd back to your side and make it harder for him to escape!

Wizard 8: Use this ASI to boost your warlock spells’ efficiency with additional Charisma. You can also Summon a Greater Demon now to gain control of your very own Sigurd! He will follow your commands, as long as he keeps failing his Charisma saves. Fortunately Tanarukk have particularly bad Charisma saves, so I doubt it will happen.

Wizard 9: If you’re a stickler for accuracy, you can instead Summon Draconic Spirit using your fifth level spell slots. Although you could argue this is actually less accurate, as this Sigurd doesn’t run the risk of stabbing you in the back… On a less controversial note, Contact Other Plane lets you get into contact with a being that isn’t explicitly a god, so RAW you can now talk to Surtr and ask him multiple questions. That being said, this spell comes with the risk of driving you insane if you fail an intelligence save. While insane, you can’t read, write, speak, or cast spells until you finish a long rest.

Wizard 10: Tenth level diviners have a Third Eye, giving you one of a variety of sight-based bonuses which you can swap out on a long rest. Darkvision isn’t particularly useful for you, but ethereal sight, seeing invisibility, or reading any language can all come in handy. You can also cast Dominate Person now. It turns out when the Fate says “evocation”, what they mean is “summoning spirits”, not fireballs. This allows you to summon a spirit that then possesses a person, giving you direct control over their actions.

Wizard 11: Eleventh level wizards get sixth level spells. True Seeing allows you to see through illusions and invisibility, as well as into the ethereal plane. It’s almost every Third Eye option in one long-range package, though it is rather expensive to use in multiple ways.

Wizard 12: Use this last ASI to maximize your Intelligence for the best and largest spell list you can have.

Wizard 13: For our last spell worth mentioning, the seventh level spell Project Image can be very useful, allowing you to act through an illusory copy of yourself anywhere you’ve been before within 500 miles of your current location. That barely lets you leave Scandinavia, but it should be more than enough to work in a D&D setting. This way you can communicate holographically with the other crypters, and you can even use your portents through the illusion, as you can see from the spot the illusion is standing.

Wizard 14: Our last level of this build grants us a Greater Portent. What makes this portent so great? Simple. You now have a third roll each day.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

You are incredibly good at shutting down opponent’s options. Are they skill based? You have a spell. Trying to escape? You have a spell. Flying? Spell. Casting? Spell. Attacking? Spell. Not only can you shut down someone, you can shut them down in just about any way possible so the only victory that can ever happen is your own.

You’re also extremely useful for communicating over long distances, with Far Scribe and Project Image giving you a frightening amount of reach, as well Contact Other Plane even allowing you to pierce planar barriers. You’re also hard to keep secrets from with a metric load of options to root out illusions and hidden objects.

You’re especially good at controlling enemies’ movement, preventing them from going anywhere you don’t want them. With plant growth reducing them to a fifth of their normal speed they’ll be completely helpless before your Grasping Vine.

Cons:

You are one of the weakest builds we’ve ever had, defensively speaking. You have an AC of 14 and under 90 HP. I mean, that’s accurate, considering you’re a human and every other build we’ve made was a servant, but it’s probably not that fun to play. Thank goodness you’ve got advantage against death saving throws.

Despite being a divination wizard, you have very few divination spells. It’s not a massive weakness, but it does mean your sixth level doesn’t do much. (Why on earth is Sending an evocation spell anyway??)

Entropic Ward and the Invocations are useful, but it’s hard to justify missing out on ninth level spells. We also had to put points into charisma that were sorely needed in other stats, feeding back into con #1.

I don’t exactly know how to put it in words, but it was a pretty chaotic day, I might say. I’m currently in block 2 of my study, having the busiest one so far. I supposed to have a trip right now, but…

I still remember the day I purchased the trip ticket. It was during the week of ToM exam preparation, around March 20-something. I thought I needed to loose a bit since I was too intense in the first block, thus I planned the trip just in case, also it seems like the ticket was cheaper before it increased (yet it turned out the price stayed the same up until around two weeks before departure?). So counting the days to departure began…

First block passed. The ToM exam passed (not).

Entered block two like a flash (literally, we had no week off).

I took three courses, contrary to two only, because of the minimum credit required for an internship. This is the ‘mistake’ happened. I should’ve known that it would be hectic hectic, as the first block alone with lesser credit was already quite demanding. One week in, two weeks, three weeks… I was rattling, trying to catch up with all the materials, while at the same time preparing my stuff for internship - CV, workshops, applying jobs, scrolling through LinkedIn… it is a mess. And approaching the day of the trip…

Here came 27 April. The long vacation in the Netherlands began with King’s Day, the birthday of the Dutch royal family’s King. I was in, of course, not going miss anything from the events. All in, with all-orange merchandise and outfit. With a couple of friend hanging around a city district in Amsterdam. The thing is, we kind of grew tired at the afternoon and split up afterwards, around 4 pm. I should’ve taken the clue to go home too, but a part of me somehow still wanted to wander around for the celebration day since I looked cool. Alright, a friend and I kept walking toward anywhere as we didn’t actually know what where we were actually walking to. We ended up going to a cafe, took some more pictures, and in the end ate some chickens in a Korean restaurant I never went to before. After that we really split up for real and I went home, saying I should’ve really prepared for tomorrow’s trip (which is today’s mess, basically). Ended up fixing my laptop (again and again, my laptop was having breakdowns and this would create a whole new story) and waited for Isha prayer before sleeping because I thought of doing the luggage stuff in the morning - that was around 11.15 pm. I still remember what I felt in the evening after getting home: I’m tired, I shouldn’t have bought that trip, I don’t deserve trips anyway… at least not before this block’s exams, I haven’t been the best in this block, I feel guilty to go on vacation when I suppose to catch up to all the materials I’ve been missing these four weeks… Can I get a refund if I decide not to go? I just want to go to the library the next morning, ugh… and so on and so forth. In short; I actually don’t want to go.

But I still woke up early the next morning to prepare myself, because to settle the internal battle in me I decided still to go, but after this trip I wouldn’t have any breaks anymore until this block is over. I planned to go at 9.30 as it felt safe, yet I passed the time a bit, but it’s okay, I still can catch it, just with a bit of a rush of running. Yet, the metro I was riding on stopped for some minutes more, which delayed my journey (later on I found out there was a construction work being held on the route, hence the delays). I was wrinkling my nose, feeling quite panic while looking at the time on my phone screen. 9.59 am. The bus moved at 10 am. It’s okay, there’s a probability they would delay the journey anyway… I tried to calm myself down. By the time I arrived, it was 10.03 am. I rushed outside toward the bus parking lot, and by the time I reached the ground, a bus passing me by. I had a gut that it was actually my bus, but I still tried to find the bus. Unsurprisingly it was not there. It was gone.

Change of plans. I asked the trip leader what to do and she advised to take another bus. Okay, I purchased another bus ticket to catch on to the main bus. While I finally got into the bus, a report came in the group chat informing that an accident happened in the way to our destination which caused heavy traffic. We were stuck for quite some time, and my bus ended up late than expected time to the supposed meeting point by 2 hours. Again, after arrived there, the main bus already left.

I was feeling pretty devastated at that point. I called the trip leader to ask what to do, and she told me to catch on the next meeting stops. Several choices, and I stared at the train ticket machine since the bus tickets were already full or not suitable for my needs. As the tiredness came over my head, and having to stare at the (slow) ticket machine for an hour or so, plus the waiting bench was cold, I started to look for a ticket way home instead. I was tired, I felt dizzy, I had not eaten, I was feeling cold, and I was basically a lost person. I just wanted to go home, rest on my bed, and do something productive the next day. On that cold bench, I tried to call some of my friends. A friend picked it up. We talked and I decided to go to her neighboring city of my residence instead - since I already carried the luggage, why not.

I looked for the transportation to go right away. I called the trip leader that I quit, I was just too tired to catch up anymore. Of course I was thinking of the money I had paid, but the whole vibe was gone. I suddenly remembered what my mom always said in the typical moment: “this is a lesson for you, just profess the cost as the cost for learning.” Indeed I felt guilty for the euros I spent for something I didn’t use at all, but I just.

Waiting at the airport for the bus to come, my departure would have one transfer change, and I am writing this post now in my time off at Liege, Belgium, feeling completely lost, where everything closed, no McD, no nothing for me to seat at least, at 1.55 am. I was eager to get on the next bus that was supposed to be here to pick me up at 4.30 am but I got an email saying it was delayed and now I have to wait for another one hour. I felt quite unsafe here, people looked dangerous, places were closed, nowhere to shelter, outside was cold, at one time it was raining too so I have to go inside the building with noone is in (basically)…

Update after 2 days later:

30 April 2023, in regards to 29 April 2023.

I ended up waiting for one more hour because the bus was delayed. Yes, three and a half in the middle of somewhere foreign with no language I could understand, in the middle of the night, alone.

I escaped this odd whole day and night going back to the Netherlands, to Rotterdam afterwards. Things were looking better after. And now I’m writing this update version at one of the tram stops in Amsterdam already (home sweet home!).

What a lesson to learn.

So... for your question about who oc will choose and who will prevail. This is my guess:

I had in mind an ending on a tone reminiscent of a sexploitation fantasy horror version of romeo and juliette. Which is my brain going half guessing from clues in the story and half wishful thinking.

In other words... I think oc is gonna choose beomgyu, but because of everything that went on he will become even more possessive and grow increasingly paranoid and emotionally unstable (you know the deal, very frail but very aggressive) to the point of oc nearly fearing for her life if she ever so little as look into another person direction. She can't speak to others, she can't look at others... her entire existence, every second of her life she can only breath his presence. In Beomgyus mind he conquered his happily ever after back and anything that could come close to interfering is to be dammed. Till at one point, in one of his good days, oc will get in a honeymoon state and give him as much pleasure as possible so that his last breath will be one of happiness, and then right as he is climaxing she stabs a dagger right through his heart and kiss him goodbye before killing herself and so they die into each other arms.

As for Tyun... he will be declared as a state traitor, an enemy of the land, and so war comence. After some battles his land is destroyed, his people is terrified, his army is rapidly going down in number. He is miserable. But the last straw will be seeing his brother be brutally murdered mid battlefield. Full mental breakdown ensues, he goes insane for a while and disappear. The royal army finds him months later alone in the middle of nowhere and take him for a prisoner. He spends the rest of his days miserable in a dark cell until he dies of sadness and dehydration decades later.

The king dies too (don't know how, choke on toast or whatever). Yeonjun takes over, becomes a much more strict and powerful feared leader that would later be remembered for his doings during this war. Wonyoung will be claimed new ruler of tyuns lands. Ryujin will become pregnant right after beomgyu is gone and be framed for adultery - guillotine for her. Beomgyu and oc history will be erased of all official records to not taint the name of the royal family, and their memory will only live through by word of the common people becoming known with time as no more than a legend.

No one gets a happy ending (except wonyoung kinda).

Finally finished watching Cromwell (1970) yesterday. Out of all Michael Jayston films (current obsession still going strong!) I have been wanting to watch this the most because the English Civil War is a subject in which I am quite interested. Even then, going in, I prepared myself for historical inaccuracies and departures from my understanding of certain events and personalities because that's just what you do when you watch a historical film.

First thing to note is that the film has many good points. For its time, the film looked marvellous. I love the battle scenes and those scenes set in the House of Commons and the royal court – simply beautiful sets. Charles I's entrance into the Commons is my favourite; his flamboyantly colourful clothes set against a sea of MPs in black, providing a powerful contrast between royal decadence and somber Parliamentary sensibilities.

There's also a lot to admire in the acting. Alec Guinness is exquisite as Charles I and the character was played largely in line with my impressions of the doomed king: a sympathetic personal side (his reunion with his family after the war reportedly even moved Cromwell to tears) but a truly awful and weak ruler who didn't hesitate to drop even his most loyal supporters, as convincingly conveyed in the scene where Charles unfairly dismissed Prince Rupert after the Bristol surrender ("You promised mountains and yet performed molehills!"). Masterful performance.

Other supporting performances were strong too. I thought Dalton's Prince Rupert worked, despite the character being so different (read: less flamboyant) in my mind. Jayston's Ireton and Thomas Fairfax (not familiar with the actor, sorry) are even more different than what I imagined. I wasn't sure how I feel about the characterisation of Ireton and Fairfax. Seeing as I know Ireton primarily for the Heads of Proposals (probably the most famous document of that period, certainly influential in the Putney Debates, so there's really no escaping it) the differences stand out a bit. And no mention at all that he's Cromwell's son-in-law. Weird choice since that could have supported the storyline of Ireton being a strong influence on Cromwell, but on the whole I think that didn't take away from the story.

All this would have made the film an acceptable one save for one very key thing. I really couldn't stand Richard Harris's take on Cromwell. I know many biogs (even the ones that are sympathetic, like Antonia Fraser's Our Chief of Men) make allusion to Cromwell's 'changeable moods' but I don't think what Harris did captured what it means. Cromwell was most likely having nervous breakdowns (melancholia was the term used at the time by his physician) at certain periods of time, usually when he was faced with big decisions to make. What Harris did however was something else.

As I said, I don't mind occasional departures from history especially if they serve the film but here they did not. History aside, Harris made Cromwell changeable in a matter of seconds which backfired spectacularly considering that Cromwell is still one of the most divisive figures in English history. A careful balance must be struck between his nervous personality and his well-documented charisma and charm that helped him win supporters. There was no suggestion of the latter in the film. Even and calm tone of voice one second and suddenly booming rage in the next, shouting at everyone around him, even politicians who were on his side. Hard to see why anyone would see a leader in this unpredictable man sorely lacking in charisma. The personal side was more successfully portrayed –in scenes with his wife and when he received news of his son's death – although not enough to make up for the dismal attempt at capturing Cromwell the politician.

Aside from the lack of charisma, film Cromwell wasn't even portrayed as a visionary. It's like all ideas and plans he had for a better England seemingly originated from or were suggested to him by others around him chiefly Ireton. So, no charisma, no vision. Bad combo especially when stood next to Guinness' Charles I.

As the film is titled 'Cromwell', its success would largely depend on whether the character is convincingly played. I don't think it was. The film would have me believe that Cromwell's authority comes solely from his booming voice, as if sound volume was the only thing that matters in leadership. That's mainly why, despite all the good things that recommend this film and despite my willingness to forgive historical inaccuracy, I couldn't really enjoy it.
