Hi! I'm new to watching bl, I'm just starting now with eclipse, do you maybe have any rec? Like shows that you really like with good acting and a good plot? hi there anon! welcome to the hell that is blblr! hope u can enjoy ur time here and steer clear of dumb discourse most of the time, and the eclipse is honestly a great first show!!!! i personally loved the eclipse from when it was announced in 2021 bc i love khaotung since forever and i was sooo ready for his main character redemption era (u don't wanna know why he needs one tbh), and the plot seemed amazing—and it was! i really hope u can enjoy it as much as i did and go through the rollercoaster of emotions akkayan will take u on, i love them a whole lot<33

as for show recs, ive been out of the loop on everything bl this year bc im a uni student and i work two jobs, i don't really have the time and energy anymore so i might not be able to talk about more recent shows, but there's still a handful of good bls i can rec u!

one of my personal faves is theory of love because 1. i adore gun to the moon and back, he's a phenomenal actor and he did an amazing job in this series; 2. the story is great! friends to lovers with a lot of angst is just MWAH; 3. THE SOUNDTRACKKKK!!!! fake protagonist THE bl ost of all time!; 4. i loooove all the movie references in the show. all that said though, tol does have its fair share of issues (like poorly written female characters) but overall it still is a good show imo!

i dont think the bl sphere has many shows in the genres u mentioned but we have a couple of supernatural plots like he’s coming to me (dude meets this ghost and falls in love with him and the show is super cute and sad at times but if u think too much about it its creepy lmao), until we meet again (hhhh maybe not supernatural but the whole concept is soulmates and red threads of fate and it’s VERY angsty), the untamed (i personally never finished it helppp but its a very good show and it has a lot of ~magic~), the movie the blue hour which is IMMACULATE, its so good, its horror/thriller, it has gun and oab and its GAY ugh its really really good i love it so much AND ITS DIRECTED BY A TRANS WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

other shows that i really enjoy but that are romcoms more than anything (with angst bc i looooove angst): gaya sa pelikula (filipino, probably the best bl of 2020, absolutely incredible), old fashion cupcake (jpn bl about two dudes who work together and deal with growing old, its v v good! established adults!), cherry magic (jpn bl, SO cute and wholesome, dude turns 30 but because he’s still a virgin he gains the power of reading people’s mind. doesnt make much sense but its def worth ur time!), 2gether/still2gether (a classic, a staple, the show that popularized thai bls worldwide. looking back its an ok show, nothing much, but it is very cute if u wanna turn ur brain off), we best love (taiwanese, ONLY SEASON ONE, i love this show so so so much it gave me such a huge brainrot)

now more heavy/sad shows: i told sunset about you (THE artsy bl we all needed, bkpp KINGS, storytelling 11/10, amazing), history3 trapped (one of my personal faves, again established adults god bless, dramatic and dynamic, main couple’s chemistry thru the roof, fifi!!!!), a tale of thousand stars (very angsty but also very beautiful)

the next two aren’t bls but i have to talk about them because they are great and i love themmmm. 3 will be free, deals with class disparity, has strong female leads, trans characters, bi characters, gay characters, polyamory, beautiful cinematography, def should watch! and the gifted/the gifted graduation. not gay bc it barely has any romantic storylines but very interesting concept, v v thriller-y and good acting!!! s2 disappointed but s1 is mwah and my url is from the gifted bc im a clown and pang and wave ARE gay and ARE in love and ARE dating thank u!

ive also heard about ghost host ghost house but haven’t had the time to watch it yet, seems very cute and i think it has some supernatural elements? cant confirm but ill try to watch it next week during my break so maybe ill update u on it later!

Okay so I’m going to track my thoughts here in one convenient post. No holding back, good and bad opinions, just my instinctual reactions to the first three episodes. Here we go:

Post-episode 1 thoughts:

Standout VM characterizations so far: Vex, Percy, Grog

Obsessed with vex’s dragon sense ability and the way they’ve animated her headaches

Excellent voice performances by literally everyone

Standout NPC: khary as uriel tal’dorei was absolutely fantastic, I’m loving the energy this character has

A fun, clever introduction to VM overall, despite knowing their story, it didn’t bore me

I kind of suspected this after the trailers but it feels a bit much on the crassness scale. I understand that VM was crass, but the excess vomiting, nudity, and public urination in the first 10 minutes felt so concentrated it feels like it’s trying to yell “this is an adult cartoon!” Which it shouldn’t have to. Again, moments like this peppered in would be fine and I’m interested to see if they’ll tone it down or continue it at this level

Really liked Pike’s little moment with the house blessing- so cute and i actually am excited about where her arc could go

THE LITTLE PIKELAN MOMENT IN E1 IM A SLUT FOR THEM

Also DRAGONNNNNN!! Kiki’s plant magic was so fun

The emotional crux at the end of the episode was SO strong, the fisherman’s family made me emotional

No historical tragedies or disasters in the area, ectoplasm, or EMF. Dean's only lead was a battered-looking kid that'd been coming to the park every day since it'd all started.

really interesting au fic! slightly ‘it’s a terrible life’. dean winchester is a hunter/EMT and sam wesson is a college kid destined to die on a roller coaster ride.

This is the day that marked the Holy and Blessed Union of Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle.

The merging of prominent bloodlines is always a grand occurrence, but breeding pedigree hunter families like Winchester and Harvelle is something to be rejoiced. It is also something to be meticulously planned, which thankfully the Host is very good at.

Or, the romantic comedy where Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle are destined to get married, Castiel is given the task of playing matchmaker and fails terribly, the entire Heavenly Host becomes a sitcom audience, God warns against male pregnancy, and Jimmy Novak is incredibly unimpressed with angels in general.

somewhat of a fandom classic and the humor holds up wonderfully. a very silly fic completed with commentary from angel radio throughout the entire thing.

In which Dean and Cas have to stop an evil Christmas tree (like you do), and it requires a little fake couple action.

hyperfocus - 2nd EP, a pretty substantial departure from their usual style, but also happens to quietly be Corpse’s favourite, and is actually y/n’s most polarising, because it has both the Grammy award winning HEARTBURN and the o brother where art thou which was written partially as a joke to capture a fond moment of them and 5SOS dicking around together in a hotel. written while on tour wit 5SOS, im writing the reader as having ADHD (because I have ADHD and i can do what i want), and the backstory is that they’d changed the medication/dosage they were taking, and as it’s their first full tour, they were under a lot of stress and were in a weird place mentally and emotionally, and hyperfocus is the result of that. i’m going through some stuff has HUGE agoraphobic vibes. 

HEARTBURN has the same vibes as Florence + The Machines’ Howl. It’s about being a demon without saying that or directly implying that unless you know demons real well. This is when the pressure for them to confirm their identity got real bad, and it was their way of working through those emotions.

Okay. She-Ra. Let me just put down some chaotic, random thoughts. I’ll miss a lot of a stuff but-

CATRADORA!! At the beginning I didn’t think I’d end up loving it as much as I do now, I was kinda torn between some different She-Ra ships (Catra/Scorpia for example, but that got washed away in one of the seasons), but BOI. I was so happy. That whole last season had me !!!!!!!!!!! THEYRE LESBIANS HAROLD

Glimbow was a little more of a surprise, but it’s not out of nowhere and they are really precious. Their confession scene was precious, too. I would’ve loved them as best friends, but I can also stan them as couple. I mean... The ball thing in the first (?) season kinda started to give hints already

Mermista and Seahawk were pretty much teased from the beginning but I never really knew if I liked it or not.... Probably bc I rly love Mermista and want her to be rly gay bc I’m rly gay but I also never really stanned Mermista and Perfuma so HMMM. I... kinda learned to appreciate Merhawk, though. The last season just did so many things right. And them with a piratey aesthetic? Amazing.

on that topic though, my initial thought after Seahawk’s first appearance was ‘chaotic bisexual energy’. He’s bi as hell and at least that dude with longer hair and the eye patch in that one undercover episode was his ex boyfriend, no discussions. Mermista is also bi. literally no one asked but i just finished the official storyline of taz the balance campaign and im having some big damn emotions. so. might as well post this very incomplete and incomprehensible list of some fave scenes, moments, lines, both gutting and glad, here. includes all sorts of good tropes and characters and whatnot that caught my interest in no particular order at all. it’s a mile long so under the cut it gooooes

Hi, im taako - you know, from TV?!" - kravitz alone and drowning in the astral plane ooohhhhhhh it hurts feels bad - lydia just fuking Screaming when edward/she did the die - roswell's sacrifice - paloma ja taako best hits - merle's whoooole entire "why did pan lie to me" - barry's reveal..... the blUejEAnS - taako-kravitz date and everything abt it - "oh, boy howdy, that is a clammy one" - kam's sacrifice - "i saw seven birds" - taako losing his SHIT over the vogue-elves - magnus whittling the ring for carey/killian - hurley's Absolute Fuking Delight when driving + when with sloane - klarg and the boys having tea :( - "god's gonna kill you with a train" - "bad luck." + "because youre dying" - arms. Light them the fuck up" - lup's teary eyed speech about the hunger and the FUCKING 15 DOLLARS - just the fact that the female characters aren't automatically more stoic and serious and hardasses and 'killjoys' because ~they're women~ AKA just the fact that theyre allowed to be So Fuckin Fun and flawed and everything i look for in a woman -- - the absolute canonization of surfer dude "sweet flips" taako - everything And I MEan Everything about the beach episode have you Ever felt this blessed before. Have you. - fukcing crying laughing at poor merle making those shitty shitty beach souvenirs - taako calling lup LULU !!!! - taako and lup interaction in roboworld - guns and "youre gonna blow out the battery >:(!!" - lup and the she-robot, lup's absolute stance of "we're not killing this planet" - "boy you're not intimidated by me at all, are you?" - "i don't think my dog could FIT in an aSs" - "you're gonna kill america's favorite wizard" - merle retching and magnus yelling in the bg while taako and barry are trying to converse and Have A Moment on the beach - yeah taako fishes - "i like your renegade spirit, there" - "because i'm worried no one else will have me" "if i can't be honest at the chug and squeeze then i - frankly, my man, i don't know where i can" - jessie and james elves.... idk man just the image of these elves rocking the joint like j&j did, the drama of it all - the fact that i've been listening to 'you adventured in the wrong neighborhood' for SO LONG AND ONLY NOW DO I GET TO KNOW THAT TAAKO SAYS 'I EAT OLD DEAD DUDES WITH MY UMBRELLA', AND NOT SOME VARIATION OF FUCKING.... 'AL DENTE' AS I'VE BEEN DUBBING IT ADSFDJK - "the late merle highchurch rolls a five" - "i prostrate myself before you" - pan calling merle "homie" - "hell yeah, goin' rogue" and taako shreds his credit cards - taakos dream dish + 'a bond' + him and joaquin making the tacos together fuck dude that shit was so powerful - merle's 1st meeting with the hunger + the hunger saying that if hes been hunting [them] down, well, it seems like he's got [merle] Right Here. - john asking how he can kill the seven of them for good. Very politely :) - john asking what the ship looks like. Terrific - "are you my friend?" and griffin's reeling reaction to it - joy in life. - "huh. i feel sad" - "your voice is like a so~ng" "i use magehand to caress his cheek" - the seven of them are a family :) god im CRYING - cassidy's talking voice God i love her - on a similar note cassidy wearing a suit after the 11th hour - "when that day comes, little man, ohhhh when that day comes..." - "it's a monologue im working on :)" - taako telling angus to conjure up his own tickets - wonderland entrance, merle turns his head and says: "hey magnus, do youhufh- what the he ll...." - merle's consistent waddling - "we'll get it next time" and something something the ship fleeing the plane and it felt so hopeless at the time - "i'm mulTI-dimENsionAL!!!!" - the duet, and: the seven of you have Time, time to learn to care for each other and be taken care of - lucretia's Year. Alone. And she changed and she started to participate. and i Am Once again Crying - the cave skeleton dude what the fuck was his deal again. Love that dude wish he'd stayed a skeleton but then again hmm - so much of the music, mannn. storm top dog had me by the throat - stolen century episode seven when shit starts to hit the fan shut UP what the FUCK!!!! - "thank you." / "back soon" - taako's "who?" and barry's desperation of "kill me" im sjrdgolsrj - davenport's desperate DESPERATE "i'm davenport!" - LUCRETIA "I LOVE YOU MAGNUS I LOVE ALL OF YOU IM GOING TO DO THIS" LUCRETIA!!!!!!!!!! NOT ALONE!!!!!!!!!! - "everyone in the world deserved to be around you" - "tell me i made refuge safe" - "barry i rolled an eleven" - taako's talk with barry at the uh.. 'wake'. "i was the one i could focus on bc everybody else i ever met... were dust." oof. - also "i just stopped learning math" its such a fine line of hilarious and so gODDDAMN SADDDD - crystal kingdom song :''') - the eleventh hour just has SUCH a GOOD SOUNDTRACK THOOO - wonderland, also, f u c k s - like it's the. undertones of those arcs' main musical themes?? or the themes of these arcs' main songs??? god they just fuck so hard idk what to tell you - each of their willingness to give up their [well. Stuff] for the sake of the suffering game goddd - just the editing/static in Those Backstory Scenes You Know The Ones - "are you the one who's been hurting my brother out there?" "im gonna fucking Kill you now." - can you Fucking believe how Powerful and full of love lup is  jesus thank fuck - "yoU're dating the Grim ReapER?" - team sweet-flips...... - "sorry about the cookies lil dude" - dingus and goofus............ - johann's fear of being forgotten. hi, this is maybe the sweetest thing ever. i’m not even sure what to say to this other than it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. i love writing them soft, i’ve been dying to write them soft haha, so i’m glad the story is finally in a place to start to make the transition. and i felt like the alex hug was really important because lena needs all of her tall, snack gfs to be on the same page–the one where they love her.

i’m not sure what you wanted to ask about the vamp fic, but lol um i haven’t had the attention span to write that the way i want to for a month almost, so i’m hoping i’ll get my shit together soon. i’m also excited that you’re ranking this story as highly as i do in my mind. 

i asked people irl, and they confirmed that’s true, so you may be on to something. verdict is still out, tho.
