people will be like ‘yeah it’s really relevant that utena is an orphan haha’ and then not even recognise how utena being a character without living blood relatives is hugely significant in a show where almost all of the most atrocious relationships are ones that have been spurred on by the notion of familial/blood obligation. and utena herself clings so tightly to what is essentially a romantic ideal of ‘the family’, ‘the blood relative’, telling anthy she’s jealous of her relationship with akio, insisting to nanami that she should persevere with her relationship with touga because you’re still siblings. in ohtori, family is something you can only be born into. in ohtori, family is the way you gain power. i mean for the love of god it’s right there, revolutionary girl utena is a family abolitionist masterpiece and it makes me claw at the walls!!!!!!!!! read the palace perspective!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! engage more with these aspects of the show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kill any and all people who go ‘why are there so many weird sibling dynamics i only came for the lesbians’ her NAME is kiryuu nanami and she does both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Young Sabo was such a little shit and I'm in love with the idea that he maintains being a little shit even through his amnesia, and his first meetings with all the Rev Higher ups basically start antagonistic like Sabo meets Belo Betty the first time and is like "wow what an ugly bag, I didn't know they let grandma's in the army!" And Betty just "damn i can't believe I have to kill this kid" but he's also stupid endearing like "being a flag bearer must be really difficult, I hope I can be as dependable as you when I'm older" and Betty "damn I can't believe I would kill for this kid".

Apolinario Mabini, Revolutionary, Cesar Adib Majul
he was so fucking funny for this
I had actually spent a long time recreating the interior of his house for that first panel before I remembered he was exiled in guam when this happened lmao. the other guy in this comic is his brother, prudencio, who accompanied him into exile!
speaking of houses, let's talk about his glasses. he had them, and I get emotional whenever I see photos of his personal belongings.....
photo taken from the NHCP Museo ni Apolinario Mabini
also the citation given in the screen cap!! I don't have access to Mabini's La Revolucion Filipina, but if you do and you want to read further: [8] 'Las memorias de Guam' La Revolucion Filipina, Volume II, p233

Some studies I did of the British at Monmouth this past June, featuring soldiers and musicians from the 22nd, 33rd, and 71st regiments of foot, inspired by William Barns Wollen’s 1911 sketchbook. Fantastic event and I can’t wait to do it again.
