in honour of it being exactly one year since MCR MK1 I would like everyone to know that since then I have been calling Milton Keynes “The Emo Capital of the UK” simply because out of all the places the tour went to, only Milton Keynes had more than two dates

Thinking about the time I made my best friend/wife (who is not a weeb) play Amnesia: Memories (the otome game) absolutely blind just because I wanted to see her reactions to the shit I play and how we both got the same chara and SAME BAD ENDING on our first try
Like yeah we are the same person, same coin different sides

(often, their diverse characters aren't representing any... actual marginalized experiences) This is actually a clever observation that I haven't seen anywhere else. If Loki, Valkyrie or *reads smudged writing on hand* Mephastos or whatever are any flavour of LGBT, they're still aliens and a robot, respectively. Regardless of them looking humanlike. They don't represent any actual marginalised people experience, not even thru layers of abstraction. Same with "alien poc" like America Chavez.
Yeah and the shows/movies are so devoid of politics (outside of ‘ra ra american military ra ra) that even the human, largely american characters do not bounce off of them at all, politically. It’s just kind of voiceless acceptance or like... apathy? Or like... we’ll have political moments, political films, political characters infused with idnetity, like Black Panther, but very, very little of it carries outside of their bubble. Like... where was Sam Wilson talking about Wakanda in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?
Every film is so isolated from each other that even when identity or politics matters... it doesn’t really to anyone else. No one else is really responding to each other, so it can never amount to a larger, meaningful representation. And I think Black Panther is pretty much the film (I haven’t seen the sequel) that gets closest to that. But the MCU of it all smothers a lot of potential, so it exists just within that film and nowhere else.
Because the rest of the cinematic universe has it where... no one sees color, no one sees gender, no one sees x y z because it’d be too uncomfortable to deal ith prejudice existing and having to confront maybe likeable, maybe legendary characters about potential prejudices.
And th en we get shows like FaTWS that try to handle these topics and it’s like... yeah... I get why you’re avoiding it. Because holy shit you’re fucking bad at it.

EVERY SINGLE DAY there are MILLIONS of characters in their late 20s who get falsely accused of being father figures to teenagers when in reality the description of "weird older cousin" or "step-sibling that moved out before you were born" is 1000000x more apt

why is religious Christmas imagery all so joyful and pleasant? where is the inherent horror of the birth of Christ? A mother is handed her newborn child, wailing and innocent. Her hands come away sticky. Red. Simply by giving her son life she has already killed him. He is doomed from the beginning. Her love will not save him from suffering. Because the thing cradled in her arms is not a baby, it is a sacrifice: born amongst the other bleating animals whose blood will one day be spilled in the name of what demands it. the night is silent with anticipation. Mary, did you know? That your womb was also a grave?

it drives me bonkers the way people don't know how to read classic books in context anymore. i just read a review of the picture of dorian gray that said "it pains me that the homosexual subtext is just that, a subtext, rather than a fully explored part of the narrative." and now i fully want to put my head through a table. first of all, we are so lucky in the 21st century to have an entire category of books that are able to loudly and lovingly declare their queerness that we've become blind to the idea that queerness can exist in a different language than our contemporary mode of communication. second it IS a fully explored part of the narrative! dorian gray IS a textually queer story, even removed from the context of its writing. it's the story of toxic queer relationships and attraction and dangerous scandals and the intertwining of late 19th century "uranianism" and misogyny. second of all, i'm sorry that oscar wilde didn't include 15k words of graphic gay sex with ao3-style tags in his 1890 novel that was literally used to convict him of indecent behaviour. get well soon, i guess...

Can we go back to this for a sec? To Aziraphale having to explain the concept of being in love to the other angels? Because I cannot imagine what a trip it has to be, falling in love with someone when that is literally not something you are supposed to be able to do. When it is something you barely understand. When the object of whatever this is isn't supposed to be able to feel this way either, except as time goes on you start to realize it's happening to him too. And neither of you can actually talk to each other about it.
