anybody else use the golden rule for interactions with others? meaning ‘treat others how you want to be treated’

yeah i think i messed up with that, because instead of the ‘how you want to be treated’ being kindness, it’s specific actions, like hugging someone when they’re crying without asking beforehand, because i would appreciate a hug in that moment and according to the golden rule i’ve been following since 2nd grade this is how you comfort others

but the big problem here, as you may have already figured out, is that i am not everyone (obvious, i know)

however, i literally don’t know any other ways that make others feel sad, mad, happy, comforted, disgusted, or afraid, without consulting myself first

like for example, i will do something to my brother that my mom didn’t like, and she would say: “how would you feel if he treated you that way?” and i would feel perfectly fine, that’s why i decided to do whatever it was to him in the first place

i also often accidentally cross un-spoken boundaries and then make others uncomfortable, and asking others about their boundaries has resulted in some very misunderstood conversations, so i just rely on the golden rule and it’s honestly gone pretty well (from what others have told me) but at the same time, it can also do a lot of harm without me noticing at all

therefore, does anyone have any other methods that they’ve been using? because i gotta make some type of change to this, but i genuinely have no idea where to even start

English is a dumb language, let’s break it more. (in ways that make it better, preferably)

Like “they.” Grammatically, sentences have to be formed around the fact that “they” is plural. But plenty of individuals use they/them pronouns. A lot of people also use it as a default for when they don’t know a person’s preferences.

Fuck it, let’s make it singular too.

“Oh, them? Yeah, they’s cool.”

“They thinks that grammar is for losers.”

And maybe let’s do some tomfuckery with she/he pronouns too. If “they’re” is fine, let’s use “she’re” “he’ve.”

“She’re a wily one, alright.” (Bonus points for wizened fisherthey voice)

“Yeah, I know, he’ve been at it for a while but the rock just ain’t budging.”

And as a they/them honorific like sir or ma’m we can use thu’um. Like the Way of the Voice, that thu’um.

“It shall be done at once, thu’um.”

Tumblr already does this but let’s verb the nouns too! Get carroted, idiot. I mean they. And let’s get a set of pronouns that’s just dee/dur so that we can list it next to she/her and get a mildly funny onomatopoeia when we speech it aloud.

If it becomes common enough vernacular then we’ll end up changing at least some of the dictionary definitions!

If it sounds weird and wrong, that’s only because that’s not the way you’ve heard it used.

The golden rule of language is: speak how you wish to be spoken to. Otherwise, they’s not gonna do it.
