Miss Madi! This is so fun, Iām excited to get to know you a little more. I might be greedy and also send a fic request š xoxo
But: š and also š - where did the inspiration for Broken Glass come from? Mostly how you decided on Deloresās story and her background and how you chose to intertwine it with Elvisās. (His story in this is breaking my heart a little more than a little š„¹).
Hiiiii my darlinā dearest!! š These are awesome questions!
šš¼ Okay, random fact time! I have performed in all my singing, dancing, and acting glory for hundreds of people and have a Bachelorās degree in Theater! I also was a dancer from the time I was two until about 24. Honestly feels like lifetime ago though, tbh lol. The funny thing is I get immense stage fright singing in front of people UNLESS I am doing so as a character, in which case Iām waaaayyyy less nervous. Like I was the lead in shows and would do just fine but ask me to sing karaoke and I literally shake all the way through. šš© Also lol to being the shy introvert that comes alive when playing make believe. I suppose in some ways writing is a similar outletā¦Iāve always loved stories and studying character, so they kind of go together (hence my double major in English!).
š So, Broken Glassā¦Dolores is very personal to me and she is based directly on a family member of mine who was a nurse around that time in NYC. And Iām not gonna lie, I have some distant family ties to the mafia š¬, so she was closer to that (though not nearly to the extent Iāve brought it to in BGāthere was no evil Gianni or arranged marriage or anything like that for her. Her father wasnāt really in the mob). She also was not a fan of E then though (that Ricky Nelson line is real lol).
One day after talking with her I just thought, hey, wouldnāt it be cool if sheād met Elvis during that time period? How would that come about and why? And I am endlessly fascinated (and saddened) by Eās health history and she and I have talked about that together, and I wondered what it might have been like or how things might have changed for him if theyād understood/diagnosed him earlier in his life. I also think it humanizes him, which might be jarring for some and endearing for others.
And I love my tropes! So in comes the slow burn, the fake relationship with a semi-enemies to lovers bent, some hurt/comfort (and donāt worryāI have more fun in store!). I also love the idea of two people from different backgrounds being able to relate to each other through similar experiences and traumas. And if PS has taught us anything, i love my angst! š Thus, Broken Glass was born!
Thanks for stopping by my dove! I hope that was enlightening in some way!š„°š„°š„°
