5 TYPES OF DANIEL BRÜHL CHARACTERS
After watching 40+ of his works, I've noticed the roles that he plays often fall into these five categories...
#1 - because he's German, obviously, a Nazi. The bottom two are a little niche as he plays 'unwanted Nazi admirer'.
Tumblr media
#2 - guy you can take home to meet your parents. He's played way too many of these—it's a given with that beautiful baby face—but these would be my top five. Bottom layer gets extra points for being a good friend to the elderly.
Tumblr media
#3 - opposite that is the guy your parents warned you about. It seems Daniel has a lot of fun playing these, especially the top layer, which leans on the love-to-hate category. I can't tell if it's just my distaste for The Face of an Angel, but I also considered adding Thomas Lang. Could be why Chris in Cargo made it here as well... because what even was that movie.
Tumblr media
#4 - now we have 'man in way above his head by the situation his political ideologies have gotten him into'. You almost always need a trigger warning for the films these characters are in as they will absolutely gut you. They're often based on real people and events. So you will learn something about history while Daniel gets tortured into a pulp.
Tumblr media
#5 - and finally, 'expert in his field, kind of an asshole, but hella breedable'. Most of my favorite characters are in this category... I don't know what that says about me.
Tumblr media
Is it cheating to place Zemo a second time? I don't care. He feels like an entirely different character.

This is the Buddy for September 29th. It looks a bit different, because I used Inkscape to color it. I went to one of those sites that serve as repositories for outdated software and downloaded the old version of the app, the one I can still use. It's not ideal but I wanted to try it, more for nostalgia than anything. However, some stuff I like about it simply don't work anymore. I guess there's no way to win.
All I can hope is some day a new edition of Inkscape will let me do the stuff I liked to use it for again. Until then, I'll be in a sort of Good Bye, Lenin! scenario where I pretend the old software is still current.

545 to go (exactly 700 down!!)
Senna (2010, dir. Asif Kapadia): A fascinating glimpse into a world I knew nothing about. Maybe not the most exciting documentary filmmaking but very effective and thoughtfully executed.
Les Misérables (2012, dir. Tom Hooper): It's bad but I'm not sure you need me to tell you that. The pacing makes it a slog to get through, the camerawork is distracting and disorienting, and the film is mostly really ugly to look at. There are some amazing performances dotted throughout and some unquestionable high points but they were not worth the overlong runtime.
Joker (2019, dir. Todd Phillips): Didn't like this one either! Hildur Guðnadóttir went hard with the score though.
The Fly (1986, dir. David Cronenberg): This on the other hand? Brilliant. Love me a good body horror with some pathos. There's almost zero build-up to the relationship between Goldblum and Davis but their chemistry is so good, it's hard to care.
Y Tu Mamá También (2001, dir. Alfonso Cuarón): There was only one way that road trip was gonna end but knowing what was coming didn’t make it any less satisfying.
The Passion of the Christ (2004, dir. Mel Gibson): I feel... physically ill. Unsure of why Christians like this movie so much; the gore is so gratuitous and voyeuristic, it feels blasphemous. Even more disturbing than the violence is the antisemitism. This was a bad time.
Good Bye Lenin! (2003, dir. Wolfgang Becker): Actually cried at the end. David Brühl imbues his character with such emotional nuance, it’s baffling to me that he isn’t even more successful.

y’all remember that adult job i said i was getting? well, i got it so the bruhl shrine has received a massive upgrade. >:)
Tumblr media
more pics and artist links below ;)))
The shelf itself is an IKEA Milsbow with four Mittled LED cabinet lights on the underside of every shelf to give it some light. I did have to drill a hole in the bottom self to feed some cords though, but other than that it was pretty simple to put together! :D
The framed The King's Man (2021) poster on the left was a freebie that I got for attending the opening night showing of the movie! I was the only person in the theater with my friend, so we nabbed about seven of 'em and handed them out to fellow Bruhl and Kingsman appreciators in our friend grounp.
The All the King's Men poster underneath isn't Bruhl related, but it was a gift from another friend who knows how much I like the Kingsman movie series. I also have a Kingsman shrine in my living room (and a Talking Heads shrine, and a Re-Animator shrine, and a Vladmir Nobokov shrine.... i am so completely normal).
Everything below reads left to right, I'll try to include links to artists where I can!
Tumblr media
Comic books in the back are issues 2-4 of Thunderbolts presents Zemo: Born Better (which isn't canon to the MCU, and honestly is not my favorite, but the cover art looks cool lol) and the first collected volume of the original Thunderbolts run.
The black picture frames on the left are a sticker set from @injureddreams on their Etsy store and can be found here! The keychain in the golden frame on the right is also from their store, and is sadly sold out :(, but the store page is here.
Speaking of keychains, I have two on order from Noble Demons that are currently getting bounced around in my campus mail system that will go in those empty spots in the frame. Those two can be found here and here.
The funko pop on the left is the limited edition dancing Zemo from the Collector Corps subscription box (although you can find them resold on Amazon and the like for ~20 bucks), and the funko pop on the right is the regular Zemo pop from the FATWS line from 2021. These are also on sale for around ~10 bucks on Amazon.
The figpin in the very middle is the MCU Zemo pin from the FATWS line that was released in 2021.
The plush in the very middle was actually made by me :D. You can find the pattern on Etsy here, but if you're curious about the specific yarns used, you can check out my ravelry posts about it here.
And finally, the enamel pins in the golden frame on the right are from ChingonPinz on Etsy, but unfortunately are not sold anymore.
Tumblr media
The DVD/Bluray collection on the left has German imports of Schule (2000) and Lessons of a Dream (2011), as well as American DVDs/Blurays of Deeply, The Edukators, Lila Lila, Inglourious Basterds, and The Cloverfield Paradox. Civil War bluray on the right is also a US release.
Special attention called to the Good Bye Lenin DVD on the left, which is the US Special Edition that has director's and actor's commentary tracks, including one with Daniel on it! Geez, if only someone were to rip those tracks and upload them to the internet. Maybe in a masterlist on a pinned post. Maybe at the top of their blog. That would be crazy hahahahahaha.
The magazine in the back is the European version of Issue 46 of The Rake, which contains the amazing and wonderful photoshoot that can be seen in this post here. (pinkie promise i did not spend $200 on that, I got it on eBay for like 20$)
The art board print in the middle is from rindelamater on Redbubble and can be found here.
The Good Bye Lenin Blu-Ray that is laying on the bottom of the shelf is an import from South Korea, and is actually the only region A blu-ray of GBL in existence since there has been no re-release in the US. I imported mine from eBay, although I think I have seen a few floating around on other sites.
Good Bye Lenin and Inglourious Basterds CD scores are pretty common, I don't think I need to explain those.
The plushie of Zeems on the right is from RedCapStore on etsy and can be found here. This was actually a gift from a friend and I hold it very dear to my heart. :)
Tumblr media
The Laszlo Brainrot begins.
Angel of Darkness and Surrender, New York on the left are US mass market paperbacks. Super easy to find. :)
The framed art print in the very middle is my very favorite drawing from @pannypunkpanda's 365 day art challenge from last year! You can find this specific one on their RedBubble shop here.
The rest of the items on this shelf (including the custom Leuchtturm1917 Journal on the left *drool*) are from a PR box that was released for TNT's version of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness in 2020. In anticipation for the season, an online murder mystery party was held and journalists recieved a box of props that acted as clues for the mystery. There's an article covering the online event linked here for those curious. I managed to snag a box from a reseller on eBay for around 60 bucks, although that was the first and only time I have ever seen it available. :(
Tumblr media
The box on the very bottom right is the mailing box that the murder mystery props from the shelf above all came in.
The board game on the left is a custom box and game that was only given out to the cast and crew of the first or second season of the Alienist iirc and is not easily available on the market. I, again, picked mine up from a reseller on eBay, but it's pretty hard to find.
The book in the middle is the tie-in edition of The Alienist by Caleb Carr, which is completely annotated and highlighted to shit by your's truly. :)
The picture frame on the right again has stickers from @pannypunkpanda's RedBubble shop linked here, and another sticker in the very middle from Elizabeth Ryan Shepard's RedBubble shop linked here.
And that's it! I may make another list with my holy grail items that I'm still on the lookout for but honestly I might just like to gatekeep those. It might make my chances of finding them better oops.

Dating Headcanons for the Danny Bunch
Here I present some general headcanons for what dating some of our favorite boys would include. Our boys up for bat are Alex, Fredrick, Zemo, and Paul. Headcanons start under the cut! Want to see specific headcanons? Send an ask!
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Tumblr media
Alexander Kerner
• Alex is definitely a soft boy through and through
• He's a very affectionate partner. He loves to cuddle and shower you in affection. Alex seems absolutely touch starved at times.
• Anything can rile him up. Alex is definitely always up for sex, he's kind of insatiable in that regard.
• He also cannot for the life of him keep his hands off of you. If you are in touching distance he will not hesitate to hold your hand or wrap an arm around your shoulder.
• Alex is very much a clingy bf but he's absolutely precious.
• "How was your day?"
• "Why don't you sit down, I'll get us something to drink."
• He fawns over you to the highest degree. This boy cannot shut up about you.
• This one has wife energy, y'all.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Tumblr media
Fredrick Zoller
• Fredrick is extremely possessive. When out in public he makes it very obvious that you're with him and he avoids advances others make towards you at all costs like the plague.
• One of his favorite things to do is take you to the cinema to watch all of the latest films that catches your interest.
• At high profile events he keeps you within arm's length. He doesn't want to lose you in the sea of people.
• He's fairly reserved in his affection all things considered when in the public view, but when that door closes he's all over you.
• He's very sweet but has a definite and defined edge. As someone who needs to maintain control in the public eye he will notice immediately when you step out of line in your role. Behind closed doors can be a much different story depending on the dynamic of your relationship.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Tumblr media
Helmut Zemo
• Now this one...this one is literal royalty and he treats you as such.
• Zemo will shower you in gifts. He loves to spoil you and make sure you neither want nor need because you have it all.
• Everytime he hears you refer to him by his first name he melts.
• "Helmut? Can you get this blanket in the linen closet for me?"
• Cue his low-key but well hidden scrambling to do what you asked because how could a man say no when an angel like you says his name in a voice like that?
• Zemo has a laundry list of pet names in both his native Sokovian and in German. He loves to fluster you by speaking in Sokovian when you're in public with him.
• Expect a lot of teasing from him. An ungodly amount of it that leaves you annoyed, frustrated, or flustered while this rat bastard just smirks with that satisfied little head tilt of his.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Tumblr media
Paul Krantz
• Paul (being the nervous and bright blushing virgin he is) tends to be timid at times when wanting to be affectionate. It's truly endearing how he will brush his pinkie against yours when you're sitting together with a blush as you let him take your hand.
• Ultimately you initiate a lot of the affection that happens. It's not that he's opposed to it, this baby just doesn't really know what to do with himself.
• Paul being the epitome of a soft, shy poet he is will fill up papers with poems about you and for you. Expect finding scraps of paper or envelopes around your shared space filled with his writing.
• His kisses are always gentle and he tends to shake. It makes you smile when he initiates the kiss even if it's a bit clumsy from his anxious nature.
• Paul is very much still a protective bf when it comes down to it. He can and will throw hands if he needs to.
• "Would you like me to read to you?"
• "Who would you like me to read from my love?"
• Like Alex, Paul is grade A+ wife material. Wife this one up and never let him go.

at almost 3am i realised how raimunda from volver and nawal from incendies had common points in their stories and how the twists of each movie shows how similar their tragedies are, but by a single thing that changes, makes an important difference.

good bye, lenin! is such an inspirational movie to me bc like. the boy knows his mother and even tho he doesn’t agree with her ideals, he dient want her to have her heart broken. he knows the pain she went through with his father and he simply doesn’t want to cause her any discomfort at all, even if it means creating more and more elaborate plans to keep the truth hidden, to make it seem like the world is the world she fights for.
and if I’m the mean time you have the chance to create a better version of the world she lived in, then what? she doesn’t need to know it’s not real. she doesn’t need to know that everyone in her age is getting severely depressed, she doesn’t need to know that her values don’t stand. she can believe that the country she fought so hard for is starting to be real, and getting recognized by the world. the socialist country that embraces other people and has opportunities and hope for a brighter future.
so yeah the movie does make me cry.

After I finished labyrinth I was delighted to see goodbye Lenin on tubi.
This is quite possibly the best movie I’ve ever watched. I’ve seen it so many times and each time I seem to love it more
It’s so full of love, and humor. Dealing with a rapidly changing future while dealing with mixed feeling about the past. Nostalgia for a world that didn’t exist and they thought it existed
The score is perfect at setting the mood
Twenty years later and it’s still my favorite Daniel Brühl role. Maria Simon and Florian Lukas are both also great. Burghart klaußner has a small but impactful role. The scene on the couch when he realizes who Alex is is such a powerfully acted scene. His face shows so much in such a short moment
