I have to get this off my chest and I want to say it nicely without anger and only with as much compassion as possible;
I think we really need to drop the false ideology that divorce and doing bad things is none of the kids’ business. As soon as a party gets affected by something, it is their business and while kids are kids, they are still members of the family. If one parent is constantly away fooling around and lying to them or if the parents split up, of course it is going to affect the kids. I think the real reason people came up with that idea isn’t to protect the kids from trauma. It is because parents want to protect themselves from being asked questions that are so hard, so emotional and so logical that they have no means of justifying the actions.
I think deep down, some parents are scared that they will be called out so loudly and be shamed so intensely that suddenly, they will be forced to go back on their decision to do something. Let me tell you something though about facing that horrible music, sometimes, going back on a decision can be the best decision you ever made. Sometimes, realizing that what you’re about to do is cowardly, destructive and doesn’t fix the real problem is a great thing even if it doesn’t seem that way at the time.
After all, don’t we do the same thing for our kids? Don’t we stop them from something they’ll regret even if they don’t appreciate it right away? That is what family does. Family doesn’t let family hurt itself. Don’t underestimate the intelligence and awareness of your kids. And don’t take it for granted either. It’s ok to be wrong even though you are the parent. It’s not a mark of shame for the kids to be right sometimes. It’s a sign that you taught them good morals and that they have your back.
Be grateful when your kids try to stop you from jumping off a cliff. They’re not doing that because they’re nosy. They’re doing that because they love you.

i used to be so good at writing strong, thoroughly-researched, thoroughly-edited essays.
as a kid in hs, my teacher literally came up to me, holding my 40 page essay on the intersection of the European witch hunts and capitalism/exploitation/gender roles (it was supposed to be 7 pages...whoops) and went like "this is literally a master's-degree level thesis. what are you doing?? you could literally use this as your final dissertation in a master's program, what the fuck."
NOW??? NOW?? you'd think I'd be oh so skilled. but alas. i can barely piece together two ideas. adhd skill-regression is so so real. im SOBBING

I am actually so serious I think it really messes with a childs creativity and joy to tell them to never make a mary sue OC. Like that unbridaled form of joy where you make a self insert OC who super cool and everyone loves them and they have every superpower in the world SHOULD be something a kid makes, it nourishes their ability to create things for fun and not be stifled by "oh but what if my character is too overpowered and cringey...". whatever
