GIFTing Shops in D.C. - to Bypass Marijuana License
This is very rich indeed. Fuggitabout a MJ license, give ‘GIFTS’ instead. “Oh wait sir, ma’am, thank you for buying that very expensive T-Shirt but do not forget about your MJ ‘GIFT’ we have for you on the counter.” The theme for ‘Gift’ shops is — Buy some non-marijuana merchandise and we will ‘gift’ you, ohhhh, some certain amount of MJ. Ahhhh, basically, it depends how much the merchandise…

No one is properly utilising grocery delivery services. You can make your driver buy 24 boxes of tampons and a condolences card. What are they going to do about it?

Consider the inherent nature of groceries: They rot. That is, in fact, sort of their whole thing. That’s one of the primary reasons that hyper-fast delivery of, say, raw chicken thighs or salad greens or a loaf of bread might seem enticing at first glance—you don’t have to guess during your Sunday grocery trip whether you’ll be in the mood for a chicken Caesar salad on Thursday. But the risk of choosing wrong and tossing out food doesn’t entirely disappear. Instead, it’s absorbed by the instagrocer. By encouraging capriciousness, companies such as Gopuff make demand difficult to predict and create a prodigious amount of food waste, which is bad on its own terms and also very bad for a company trying to make money by selling food.

Why I Don't "Insta" Shop Groceries
This morning, I read an article in The Atlantic that talked about the shortcomings of grocery delivery apps like Instacart and Shipt. While the article is mostly about the inefficiencies of running those services, I want to offer my perspective as a consumer. As much as I would like to use those services, I rarely get a satisfactory outcome from my orders. Typically, my "shoppers" often can't find the items that I'm looking for, which I take with some skepticism. Even groceries that are almost always in stock are "unavailable" when I order them (but miraculously appear in abundance when I go to the store later). Usually in the end, I get about three-quarters of my original order with the rest being substitutes or unavailable (I once got meatloaf seasoning as a "substitute" for flour). From my experiences, most grocery delivery "shoppers" don't take much care in how they do their jobs. Ideally, the delivery driver/"shopper" should be something like a concierge who knows what the customer wants and takes the time (without being rushed) to find the groceries the customer wants. Also, allow the customer (via Zoom or similar platform) to see what the “shopper” is choosing, something that can be really useful when picking produce and meats (I hate it when I get a really red, un-marbled steak). Until the quality of service improves, I will continue to do my own grocery shopping.
As far as getting "convenience" items like potato chips, soda, beer and other stuff that don't require "genius" level intelligence to find, I'll occasionally use services like DoorDash and GoPuff for delivery if I'm not able to get it myself. For example, during a shift at the FedExForum, I had DoorDash deliver me a bottle of Pepto Bismol when I was having a bit of diarrhea. It took an hour for my delivery to arrive, for the DoorDash driver had to go to it's DashMart store at the Cloverleaf Shopping Center near Summer Avenue and Mendenhall and deliver it (along with another order that was along the way) to where I was in Downtown Memphis. Although I was grateful for the delivery (costing me a $10 delivery fee), I thought to myself "could the driver gotten my medicine at a nearby store?" I know DoorDash, GoPuff and some of the other delivery services maintain its own inventory, how efficient is it to have a driver come from somewhere like Frayser (just an example) to East Memphis to deliver a bottle of Pepto Bismol to Downtown Memphis? In the Atlantic article, it talks about how the logistics of this kind of service struggles to be efficient and profitable, but as a former pizza delivery driver, I wouldn't want to primarily deliver from a location that will put a lot of wear and tear on my car. Still, those "convenience" delivery services are cool on occasion, but I don't know if it's sustainable in the long term. Anyway, I wish them luck.
BTW, the 2022 midterm elections is November 8th (as in next week). Make a plan to vote (early voting is still going on in many parts of the country, including Memphis and Shelby County, TN). If you need information about voting, go to Vote.org. This election might be one of most important in American history, so please don't sit this out. Go vote.

On a $23.53 order on Gopuff that I ordered.. seriously, for $5.95 a month you can get free delivery, no tax where applicable. I won a $10 off coupon of my next order with my free spin and because their coupons are messed up and make you buy $10 more, I argued with customer support and they gave me $10 in credit also! Too cool!! Cheaper than going to the store!! Seriously it's worth checking out, they are super cool and the beer and tobacco is really cheap.. I don't do all that but I had the credit so I used it. And there are so many rewards from earning points.. you get free points every day from spinning the wheel. They have ice cream and soda, all kinds of stuff. It's pretty cool. Don't really use it all that often but I like earning the points and getting free stuff!! It's worth checking out!! - eUë
