i updated and rearranged my lolita physical media collection as i was recently able to complete two sets: my english "gothic & lolita bibles" at the top (still a long way to go for the japanese volumes you see sandwiched in between) and my "gothic lolita & punk brand books" at the bottom! for brand catalogs that are a bit too flimsy without a solid spine, loose pages, flyers, prints, postcards and such; i added in a file folder to give them a little extra protection.
it looks a little strange stacked vertically, but this temporary setup until i move was the solution i found after some trial and error. the classic horizontal "bookcase" presentation of the magazines was far too much weight and pressure for my unstable shelves and caused an extremely loud and heavy avalanche. thankfully i survived with just a bruise, but more importantly.. none of my books were too hurt! reorganizing them all over again from the beginning after the fact was a bit tedious, though.
i'm especially looking forward to reading the three acquisitions pictured above given that finding english lolita media has proven quite difficult.

Fyi for anyone wanting to support Chinese indie sellers without potentially buying from fast fashion, I would highly recommend shopping from taobao through a shopping service as taobao is primarily consisted of small indie businesses who often do made to order items often times tailored to your measurements too and is often recommended in Lolita fashion communities as an alternative to buying from name brands due to affordability at a genuinely reasonable price for the quality.
At every chance I get with goths in my goth communities I will always recommend taobao if they want to support Chinese small businesses without resorting to fast fashion because while fast fashion is a genuine concern, there is a layer of racism to assume Chinese fashion businesses are all poor quality fast fashion made with slave labor, taobao sellers always make their products in their small studio of workers that work hard to make high quality products along with the fact that some western small businesses will also outsource to sweatshop—free studios.
Chinese indie sellers deserve to be supported instead of fast fashion giants that are products of either western outsourcing or exploitative capitalist chinese businessmen and fyi made in America items are most likely made with prison labor (Google that)!
Some taobao shopping services I would recommend:
—42 Lolita (great customer service)
—Lolitawardrobe
—My Lolita dress
Remember to SHOP SMALL even when shopping internationally!

”happy victims"
In 2008, Kyoichi Tsuzuki documented the fashion brand addiction of young japanese collectors. Through HAPPY VICTIMS, he gives us an insight into their collection, and interior. By putting an interview next to each photograph, he also brings us some explanations about their behavior.
"People find my photos of fashion victims interesting because such top-of-the-line items coexist with their less-than-fabulous everyday lifestyles, all very matter-of-factly. To see top people surrounded top goods by might make people jealous, while the lowest of the low scraping the very bottom of the barrel is merely painful to look at. But when things mix that normally don’t go belong together, now that’s the stuff of excitement and inspiration."

this series of photos were taken to warn people about over consumption, I see a lot of people glamorize these pictures or say they’re "goals" and it upsets me! ethical over consumption is still over consumption. That’s something I don’t think many j-fashioners realize :(
