Chiaroscuro | Aquila/Graf Zeppelin |
Chiaroscuro - the use of strong contrasts between light and dark in art
She loved the sunrise.
Not just for the aesthetics, although she couldn’t deny that - the sky may be where she fought, but it looked so beautiful lit up with the purples, oranges, blues and golds that went with the sun instead of the grey smoke and bright flashes that came with aerial combat.
No, she loved the sunrise because of how it lit up Zeppelin.
She wasn’t always awake, but that wasn’t an issue - she looked more peaceful asleep, with all the worries and stressors of her life (past and present) gone. And while time couldn’t erase the scars, it brought relief and newer, more pleasent memories. Warfare could hardly be called elegant, for all the Royal Navy tried to make it, but this time they would fight together, and that made the time together outside of sorties so much sweeter.
And, of course, this was certainly a sweet memory. Her silver hair splayed over the white pillows, in stark constrast to her black nightgown. Had Aquila the time, she would have eternalized this scene in paint, had it hung in museums for centuries to come.
But she did not, so for now, she would enjoy the sunrise and the company.

This new Azur Lane event was one i planned to pass on, mostly because i didn’t see a point in doing it, but then the limited ships were released. One of them is a Roon. I f*cking NEED it! I shill hard for Iron Blood, regardless of their collective reputation, because they have the dopest ships, in my opinion at least. With the exception of, Z25, who is available in the Light construction pool, and U-110 and Zeppy, who are only gachable during missed events, I've got every Iron Blood ship available on the EN servers. Sure, i haven't added the two Priority three ships, Mainz and Odin, or Roon Muse, officially, but that’s just a matter of time. My Faction level is at three with four the hard cap, which i'm only about three hundred points away. I am definitely Iron Blooded and cannot wait to see what’s next for my favorite fleet. Look, i appreciate all of the factions. I’ve written at length about my love for the Sakura Empire before. I have a growing adoration for Royal Navy, Iris Libre, and Vichya Dominion. They have some pretty dope sh*t in those docks. I'm on record as being a huge fan of Warspite, in particular. I even have love for Eagle Union. They are the complete opposite and direct enemy of my chosen allegiance but it’s real hard for not to enjoy Essex, Minneapolis, and Georgia. Even so, my favorite ships err on the German side and, with the advent of Roon Muse and the bolstering of my overall fleet with a Gneisenau drop, i wanted to kind of gush about my favorite Iron Blood ships.
I play on the EN servers so Z23 was my starter ship. I went into this game looking to build an Iron Blood fleet so it only made sense to start with the Iron Blood available. Z23 served me well, too. We have been together since the very beginning so she got all of my firsts. She was the first to level 120, the first to 100 affection, the first to received a Promise Ring, an the first Retrofit in my dock. I’ve expanded my fleet considerably and have obtained fr more powerful ships but Z23 was my first and she’s still on the front lines in my B-Squad.
Friedrich der Grosse
Oh, Fried, my destructive ass UR darling. Fried has a cumbersome ass aesthetic. The way she’s been rendered is kind of ridiculous but it’s a look that grows n you, especially when you use her in your fleet. Fried is a f*cking powerhouse, man. I mean, she would have to be because of the Priority status AND the Ultra Rare bump but, having her in the backline really does a number for my efficiency. Pairing her with Graf Zeppelin and Tirpitz just obliterates everything. I shudder at he thought of these girls, sortied together, maxed out. I’ve seen what a 120 Fried can do in PvP and i want that. I want MY Fried to have that terror.
Graf was probably the second reason, after Eugen, why i wanted to get into this game. Graf is one of the best looking ships in the entire game and that’s not even mentioning the Beachside Urd costume. Also, i have a thing for Aircraft Carriers. They’re the best offensive options in the game and since Graf is really the only option available, she automatically finds a place in my heart. Technically Zeppy is also a Carrier but, i mean, she’s still a Graf so i don’t really count her. Graf, Tirpitz, and Friedrich der Grosse are currently the Main fleet I'm running, strictly to level each of them up to 20. I still have a LONG way to go, though. It’s a labor of love, man.
Roon was a labor of love. She was my first Priority ship. I was late to the party on these things, mostly because that whole EXP requirement is insane, but i conquered that sh*t in time and was rewarded with a straight up monster. Roon luck sucks but she more than makes up for that with her sheer power. These Priority ships don’t f*ck around and, with the exception of maybe Fried, Roon far outstrips every Iron Blood ship in the dock in terms of destructive potential. It also helps tremendously that she’s kind of a yandere and i got a thing for crazy.
Eugen was my very first SSR ship. I was able to buy her from the Exchange outright, which was a boon for me because she was the entire reason i decided to even play this game. Her aesthetic, that entire design, is absolutely gorgeous. I love everything about this ship, man. Not only is she incredibly versatile and never leaves my Vanguard if i can help it, but she has some of the dopest skins in the entire game. If you equip her right, Eugen is a f*cking beast of a tank and best believe i made sure to compliment that strength, perfectly. Plus, i mean, she’s adorable, man.
Honorable Mentions: Bismarck, U-96, Admiral Graf Spee, Mainz, Admiral Hipper, Z1, Deutschland, Scharnhorst, Odin
