The inspiration for this one was the phenomenon of silicon-valley grifters  “reinventing” things that already exist (currency, public transport and even art) as privately owned proprietary technology that also has a massive carbon footprint.

Honestly, I do like how this episode acknowledges that the Ferengi’s current business practices are preventing them from making long-term profit and how Zek is on the cusp of realizing some important things that should be changed but he’s set in his ways and also barely has the energy to manage being Grand Nagus as things are now, let alone rework an entire culture.  He genuinely set up this plan to help his son Krax succeed, not to trick him into falling short.

Understandably, this is going to be a long-term subplot for the show itself as well as for the characters in it.

In any case, up next are screencaps from “The Vortex”.

to kick off the plot in s2 ep 7 Quark answers a direct call from Grand Nagus Zek that is on a *personal subspace frequency*. but if subspace frequencies operate like radio waves and one has to open their own channels in order to receive any message

does this imply that every Ferengi legally at all times needs to keep the Nagus's line open for whenever he decides to send them a funny little message or does it simply imply that Quark, personally, has always kept this line open on the off chance that out of millions of Ferengi the Nagus will one day notice him and give him, personally, a funny little quest

Had a good dream that a few members of the DS9 cast, including Odo, Kira, the Nagus (??), and my as-of-yet undefined self-insert, were stationed down on Bajor. The city we were in was lovely, bustling and friendly, full of color, the streets lined with trees full of pterosaurs (nice). This was some alternate timeline where Odo never confessed to Kira and was just really good friends with her but was still obviously very flustered. She had to leave to another city at one point and their goodbye was so awkward. They hugged a couple times and Odo kept puckering up for a kiss and Kira was completely oblivious, maybe on purpose. After she left I comforted my boy and I promised to cheer him up with, and I directly quote myself, "law and order stuff". I love my sad goo creature so much, it was wonderful spending time with him.

We wound up walking around the city for a while and met up with Nagus Zek at something like a beer garden. Nothing remarkable there, he's just on vacation. Then the plot went sideways and idk where Odo went but I missed him very much. So i signed up for an art class to learn to paint a family portrait, and I made a nice painting of my actual mom, Odo, and Kira. Yes, here they are, my three parents. I might have squeezed Spock in on the side somewhere idk. Really pleasant dream, 10/10, did not want to wake up.
