We know from the novel that the sects weren’t always ruled by bloodline. The novel says when the Wen’s finally were firmly in power however many decades ago and people can’t oppose them, they changed things to follow their idea of only bloodline inheriting the sect. If that never happened, it’s pretty accurate to assume WWX would be the heir because he was head disciple.
Ironically enough, its only because of the Wen Clan changing things that JC is able to be an heir since he’s not strong enough to be head disciple. Since JYL can’t cultivate , he’s the only heir we know of that wasn’t head disciple of his generation.
I mean, to be entirely fair I don’t think it’s ever mentioned whether the other sect heirs were head disciples of their own sects or not. I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet unless head disciples typically aren’t sect heirs, but it’s never said one way or the other. But yeah, the sheer irony of the sect JC hates above all others being the only reason he gets to lead the sect is delicious.

Oh god I saw this post on angstymdzsthoughts where apparently someone on twitter posted that LQR would love to have JC as a nephew in law, and like...what? Where the hell is the logic behind that? What about JC makes him the type of guy LQR would actually like? There is nothing about JC that would actually make LQR want him as family, other than people saying, “oh this would be cool.” What is it because they both supposedly committed genocide together? Because LQR at least didn’t know 1/2
about who the Wens were beforehand like JC did. Not to mention, JC is constantly badmouthing his nephew, so what makes anyone thing LQR would actually want that around lol. 2/2
Yeah, I saw that. JC is not what LQR would want as part of his family! Like, things you can definitively say about LQR are that he is fiercely devoted to his own and will do whatever it takes to defend his family. He was prepared to let his sect burn to save his people. JC threw his own brother onto the pyre for the sake of his reputation. LQR, a man who willingly (if not happily) took the responsibility of raising two children and running a sect for his brother, would despise him for that alone. Not to mention, at least WWX is kind to both of LQR’s nephews! LQR may disapprove of Wangxian’s relationship but I don’t doubt that he recognizes and respects WWX’s devotion to LWJ. JC is horrible to LWJ and coldly distant to LXC at best. LQR would hate him so fucking much.

I feel like a lot of jc stans who say wwx doesn't think about the consequences, esp in regards to the wen remnants, don't get that he did! Like the entire reason he leaves the sect is to protect them. And it's treated like a betrayal. But wwx didn't go on vacation, he's holed up in BM trying to keep innocent people alive. And he asks for no help with that. And it's not wwx who stretches out an invitation but the world. He's just staying out of everyone's way. Just trying to survive.(1/2)
(2/2) I mean, if he wasn't tricked into the ambush. Then honestly, both Jyl and Jc would have just led fairly comfortable lives. The entire thing that went down was an equation that spiralled out of control. Wwx just made the best possible decision given the circumstances? The wens needed to be saved, the Jiangs can't be caught in the backlash. So he chose the best possible route which ended up with him starving on the BM. While his siblings were fairly well off. Like what more do you want?
Yeah, WWX really did accept that protecting the Wens most likely meant never rejoining his family. He was living on a corpse mountain trying to keep fifty people from starving to death, and he never once complained or acted like this was an unexpected turn of events! And he would have stayed on that mountain, never causing problems and only leaving to see his sister when invited, if the sects didn’t keep harassing him. After killing the guards at the camp, WWX doesn’t hurt anyone until the sects attack him, at which point he defends himself! WWX always considers the consequences of his actions, but whenever he does anything JC starts screaming that he’s being reckless and impulsive without giving him the chance to explain himself or prepare for the consequences.
