Our player characters for our new campaign of Lord Of The Rings Roleplaying, officially sponsored by Free League! LotRRP is (more or less) a conversion of The One Ring 2nd Edition into D&D 5e rules, and acts as effectively a second edition of the now discontinued Adventures in Middle-Earth (it’s more of a rebuild from scratch though, to be fair).

The campaign, a run of Shire Adventures, will be livestreamed over on Twitch on Arvan Eleron’s channel, starting on January 31st 2023. Please come check it out!

The unlikely heroes portrayed above are: Titch Applebough, a anxious blob in the shape of a human town’s guard from Bree. Coriander Took, a most cheerful young Hobbit who is incapable of sitting still. Her grandmother, Granny Lavender Hopesinger, the village crazy lady. And last but not least Calloran Fallohide, cosmopolitan extraordinaire!

Our players are Amal El-Mothar, the Hugo Award winning author of This Is How You Lose the Timewar, Trendane Sparks, voice actor and narrator for BattleTech and Shadow Run audio books, Bradley P. Beaulieu, author of the Shattered Sands series, me, who is hopelessly outclassed by everyone else in this group, and of course our wonderful Game Master, Gregory A. Wilson, author of Icarus and Grayshade.

also welcome back great to see you getting around to all the asks star and i completely forgot we sent in. i have since started reading even more of your stuff. the things i like about how you write: you generally keep the reader gender neutral (though sometimes referencing anatomy is needed but you warn about that), you add warnings about the stuff thats in it, you add word count so you know how long it is, and you :ake references to the characters appearance (such as eye or hair color). the last one is great because i know none of these characters and most of the art of them that i saw on your blog is in grayshades. the mentions in the fics are usually all i have to go off of. oh also eventually im going to send you an art piece you may enjoy. specially made for you if it ever gets made. also star is considering making a sideblog on their account for me to use because i dont actually have my own account. okay i think thats finally all i had to say. -doc

Thing that amuses me. Yesterday I was praised on the uniqueness of my setting. Today I got a three star review calling the setting "weird". Specifically for the same reasons. Can't please em all, I suppose.

I'm slowly working through the interesting stuff from those itch.io bundles. And there's great things in there.

But also Fugue in Void which frustrated me enough to make a post.

A game with a runtime of about 35 minutes which spends 9 of those minutes on an intro cutscene. Which kinda gives off the vibe of that Ulcerate music video but a lot less inspired and without spectacular death metal backing it.

I understand the want for abstraction and all that. The game is sorta like walking through an art installation, and it has moments that can be utterly stunning. And I think there could have been something great made from that.

But games as a medium sorta live off of interactivity and there's like none of it. No way to interact with the world besides movement, no failstate, the jump you have isn't even needed, all it's good for is pondering if bunnyhopping works in Unity.

After taking in the same grey environments for about 10 minutes I got stuck on a piece of geometry, with no checkpoints to load or anything of the sort. So I quit and watched the thing on Youtube.

And whaddya know right towards the end it gets a bit interesting. More colors than grayshades, other environments, things happen. And then it stops before it can really take this newfound creative liberty anywhere.

The game is free on itch so it's not like I can complain much but I'd still just watch a video given the choice.
