So, apparently, because politicians received an influx of calls from their constituents asking them to vote against H.R. 7521, some or most of the politicians voted in favor of it.
Tumblr media
One of them bitches was on the news bragging about how they voted in favor of H.R. 7521 because they loathed how many times they were called upon to vote against it.
Most of the seats in the House of Representatives are up for reelection. I urge y'all to pick a target who voted yea on H.R. 7521 and find a replacement who actually wants to do their job and not spite the people for demanding that they do it.

@tododeku-or-bust's post asking for examples of racism (experienced/witnessed) in fandom has got me thinking about how abstract the experience of antiblackness is once you (as in me, because I can only tell you my perspective) 'remove' yourself from the situation or the situation is considered 'settled.'
A lot of that is, obviously, a defense mechanism. If I didn't learn how to dissociate or numb myself from said experiences, I think I would be in a much worse place than I am right now.
But it also highlights how much I spent on Tumblr reading or experiencing antiblackness in different fandoms. Within the moment, the experience is raw and extremely triggering.
Left 4 Dead 2, Pacific Rim, Princess and the Frog, and Star Wars were probably the most active I'd been within a fanspace on Tumblr, and the antiblackness that ran rampant in those spaces was pretty vile.
At every turn, instead of owning up to the acts of passive and active racism, yt and non-Black users would break their backs to defend their position as 'not racist.'
The absolute refusal to investigate why they were so comfortable calling characters like Rochelle and Tiana boring or annoying compared to Lottie or Zoey allowed antiblackness to run rampant because, "I should be allowed to dislike a character!"
Do you know how aggravating it was to watch old-ass shows like Buffy and Angel at 14-then-22 and watch not only the writers but the audience (or LiveJournal or Television Without Pity) demonize characters like Charles Gunn and Robin Wood for doing things they cheered white characters on for doing... on the same shows? All while engaging in some truly racist stereotypes? It feels like you're going crazy when you see it. It made me wanna cry for help.
The fact that I had to remind Star Wars fans that 'DLF didn't mean it that way' wasn't an excuse for how LucasFilm treated Finn or John Boyega. That "actual racism" was benign, passive, uncritical, and often intentional.
The fact that much of my Pacific Rim experience was watching yt fandom call Stacker Pentecost an "asshole" or "control freak" because he was holding Raleigh and Chuck to account, or they wouldn't engage with his and Mako's relationship with the same respect they did with Herc and Chuck's.
I decided not to engage with the media outside of isolation or friend circles. As I moved further and further away from it, and it became vague and less sharp, I'd start to question, "Was it really that serious?" When so many people failed to read the room and centered themselves as victims of 'harassment,' was it really that serious?
And I have to remind myself, "Yeah, it was." Even as it becomes hard to verbalize or put into words to recall, it was and is that fucking serious.
And the worst part of all of this? Most of those racist shitheads knew that too. But they could get away with it, so...
The point ultimately is to drive people who'll challenge positions out of those spaces. That's why so many fanspaces don't promote growth or shifting dynamics. They prioritize anti-intellectualism and infantilization of the self or the work itself.

So, according to a TikTok user (who is a lawyer) under the handle Natalie2024, there are approximately 69 Cop Cities across the United States getting prepped for construction.
Some have already been completed, but the large majority of them are WIPs (and I suspect a lot of them are in or near Black neighborhoods).
And, yes, it truly is a response to 2020 protests against the murder of George Floyd (and, I'm betting, the demands for Police abolishment). The United States truly plans on crushing movement building before it can react to violence against citizens.
I'm searching for more information about this that backs up the video, but so far no cigar (most search results are still about Atlanta's CC).
Stop Cop Cities.

“You shot me, I’m telling Mom” might be the funniest thing I heard from The Quarry, because it goes so unremarked by Travis, who’s trying not to strangle his brother in a situation out of their control.

A Palestinian-Canadian seller on Etsy just spoke about how one of her homemade products called "River to Sea" was de-listed on the site for "hate speech", while more overtly anti-Palestinian and Zionist products remain up and for sale on the platform.
Tumblr media
It's more than likely every (mainstream) business platform involved in commerce will likely side with any or all forms of white nationalists, including Zionism. Target (which is affiliated with Starbucks), for example, fired one of their employees for showing support for Palestine on social media.
Prior to December, I do remember seeing plenty of products on Etsy with the liberation call, "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free" and "Intafada". You could search it and find it. Now, you can't.

Every now and again, I think about the whitewashing campaign Disney LucasFilm spearheaded for Kylo Ren just so they didn't have pay Finn (John Boyega) dust.
How unwilling they were to allow the narrative that homeboy and some of his other Dark Sider cohorts (the Knights of Ren) slaughtered a bunch of innocents for absolutely no reason other than the pursuit of power, shanked Han Solo dead for the same reasons.
But then threw Luke Skywalker under the whole damn planet they were on to give him Perfect Victimhood Status, rewrote the murder of his co-students as an Act of God, and pretty much said (without saying) killing his pops just ain't that important. And they killed Leia in his name to boot.
Like, bruh

I really don't think Hayden Christensen is that stellar of an actor, but the way he says, "You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker [Obi-Wan]... I did," and lowers his head when he levels his gaze on Obi-Wan...

When he gets it, he gets it.

lmao, not Namor stans saying “He was aiming for Riri, he didn’t mean to kill Romanda!” and “Wakanda should’ve persuaded the Tolkans into a peaceful alliance” When
1): Namor explicitly told Romanda he was going to kill her the moment she double-crossed him on any level to save Shuri and Riri from his abduction.
2): The Wakandans were never given the option of peace or a genuine alliance with the Talokans. Namor literally threatened them with death if they didn’t abduct a teenage girl (unaware she’d been goofed by the CIA) so he could kill her to protect his secret society.
Like, fam,
Tumblr media
Let’s appreciate that he was full stop was not interested in peace or a situation where he wasn’t in complete control of the Wakandans, lording over folks like the god he thought he was.
That’s like pretending Killmonger didn’t use the US Military and the CIA’s warmongering ways to achieve his goal overthrow (white) America, and upend Wakanda to avenge his father’s murder. (Or simpler,  intentionally kill his girlfriend once she became superfluous to his goals.)
Namor intentionally killed Romanda in Wakanda. Riri’s death was a bonus at that point.
(Like, there is a reason Shuri cooked him in a flying air fryer, burned him with an explosion close enough to kill her, then tore off one of his ankle wings.)

So, I'm on Redfin trying to get a feel for the housing market and what kind of house I might get once I have the money for it, and there's a pop-up that will not close. It's got this little QR code and right next to that is "download the app so you can have new houses at your fingertips!" I think I'm clicking on the X for a minute before it finally disappears.
One thing about the constant push towards "download the app" is just how little control you have over an .exe program on your mobile phone.
You can't block ads, you can't stop trackers, and you can't alter the appearance of the site via the app. You're at the mercy of the company whereas on a desktop, which has similar issues (esp with the monopoly that Microsoft has on non-Apple PCs), a lot of those problems can be at least mitigated or minimized with browser extensions or .exe programs on your desktop.
Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, and Facebook are a quagmire of privacy violations, particularly through ads, and their want to push you towards using their less-than-stellar apps says more about how much the companies dislike how much control the user can exert through their choice-of-browser with extensions. Extensions created by people who want a basic user experience and not one controlled by algorithms.
Fandom, formerly Wikia, continues to push the narrative that "we have more mobile users than desktop users!" to justify making the website, already bogged down and redesigned with invasive advertisements in mind, worse and worse.
And they know they can get away with it because, at the moment, it costs money to escape that void and create an Independent Wiki. There is no Paizo-type non-profit platform where people tired of Fandom (dot com)'s shit can migrate away from them, and vibe as a fan-run Wikipedia. (And when there was one, it got consumed by the Fandom monopoly.)
I wouldn't be surprised if the push towards "download the app" was just the start of retiring desktop computers (among consumers) in the same way Video on Demand (digital downloads and purchases), and the practical death of Special Features (BTS Documentaries, and Audio Commentary), has become another tool for minimizing the necessity of physical media like DVDs and CDs.
None of this was at the request of the consumer, but damn if corporations and companies don't want people to accept that as the true narrative.

Racists/white supremacists/nationalists continue to make it abundantly clear that they do not and will not co-exist with people who aren't white, will jump at any chance or opportunity that allows them to kill and maim with impunity, then cry wolfie-victim.
And yet, time and again, people fall into the trap of believing the onus is on Black and non-Black folks to meet them half-way in the middle of the road, agree to any and all "peace talks" or whateverthefuck.

Watched Underworld on Netflix a couple nights ago, and I peeped immediately where they cut the original footage of blonde Sonya and replaced it with footage of the former Tomb Raider model from Rise of the Lycans.
Tumblr media
I always had a issue that they made Sonya a carbon copy of Selene in that film. “You reminded [Viktor] so much of his [precious] Sonya” shouldn’t’ve translated “you looked just like her”. Especially when there could’ve been an opportunity of doing something with VIktor and Selene or her family before he slaughtered said family.
But that’s nuance that the Underworld series isn’t particularly interested in, I know.
