I just realized how Science Fiction is the perfect genre for myth/fairytale retellings…
Many myths and fairytales have fear and facination with the unknown as a central theme. The sea, remote islands, caves, deep forests. could magic exist there, far away from civilization?
but now that our world has been explored and stuided, these feelings of wonder no longer resonate the same with modern audiences.
but you know what does cause fear, wonder and existensial dread for people in the 21st century?
SPACE.

New in my shop, Hades, the Greek God of the Underworld. He's shown here as a skeletal hand, holding a slice of pomegranate, which represents his bride, Persephone, and his hold on her for half the year.

So I came across this little vase painting of Iris with baby Hermes and I just had to do it in my style. I don't know the context of the original artwork, I haven't been able to find anything about Hermes being raised by Iris or a version where Iris was his mother instead of Maia, so let's just call it veteran herald showing the new baby the ropes.

Fur coats and pumpkin labyrinths.
What would be Crete if Theseus, dagger in hand, enter the maze and the Minotaur exited, using the front door, wearing the hero's head and wearing it better? What would be Theseus then? A scapegoat? A body for something divine to use and scream, as an oracle trapped between the hands of her gods?No mind or self, just, skin and fur.
I would like to say that this started as just a pumpkin labyrinth idea and I lost my mind, and I blame all the hot johns and I'm glad they are dea--
More ramblings under the cut:
----- ready for some nerd things? (in broken English, sorry)
1- The yarn it's a reference to the three Moirai, who control faith and human lives. (spinning the yarn, forming the thread and cutting the thread. Birth, life and death.)
Frost carries his life around his back, keeping control. (He carries his own faith. / Also, also, also references the threat that Ariadna gifts Theseus to not get lost in the labyrinth, he's able to control his life and mind.)
2- The cup and the laurel leaves are references to the religious practice of the Oracles of Delfos.
Where the oracle drank water from the fountain of Castalian and chewed laurel to purify herself to be able to be the voice of the gods, in Frost's case to think clearly. (Clear thought.)
3- The red yarn getting cut represents Frost getting lost in his own mind, overthinking, and losing control over his life. (Also his tail, which might link to the "having the tiger by the tail" saying.)
The labyrinth, who seems logical at first it's intended to have no exit (it's mirrored), it's Frost's emotions that keep him trapped behind his own logic.
4- Torbek being covered in blood and bones represents the goat sacrifices made to the oracles for enlightenment. Scapegoat, get it?
(You would also make a case linking him with Hercules "losing his mind by a divine power" wearing a lion skin with the whole "being punished by his crimes and gaining his identity back by getting a new identity by becoming a god", but it wasn't intentional.)
All the smoke that moves and represented the party that dances around Torbek, are references to the belief of some historians that oracles sat in a tripod on top of a rock that emanated gases causing them to get high and get hallucinations. Though it's not proven.
Also, it is a very poor reference to "Vuelo de Brujas" 1797 by Goya, which lives in my head rent-free. (You would say Frost is blinded by them since he's "witched", look at me making connections.)
Tumblr media
5- The sad cat in the pumpkin it's a reference to EP. 4 Lose your illusion from the whole scarecrow situation where Frost falls in deep sadness while carving a sad kitty face.
Scarecrow's usually symbology shadows, a version of oneself that it's usually more linked with "darkness".
By being a scarecrow, Frost considers himself a shadow of what he used to be and now Torbek is. (Well, Torbek only has the skin.)
7- The pumpkin falling it's a very "losing your head" situation.
8/9- Frost by throwing away the laurel and the cup, which would give him the ability to see the future (to be able to see the situation logically and analyze it) he's refusing to believe there are other options than his friends abandoning him. He's jumping to conclusions.
And by it, it makes him distressed. (his fur falls and grows leaves, doubt.)
This makes the phrase "leaves no room for doubt" pretty ironic.
-----
thank you for reading all that, have a cupcake. 🧁

Persephone - Lady of the Underworld
In Greek mythology, the wife of Hades, ruler of the underworld, protector of the souls of the dead and goddess of sprouting grain, also known as Kora. She was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. She was kidnapped by Hades while she and her companions were playing in a meadow. When she tried to pick a beautiful narcissus flower, the earth opened and Hades appeared on a golden chariot, carrying her away to his kingdom. Her attributes were poppy seeds and pomegranates.

How do you come up with names for your characters 😭😿im struggling over here :(
there are 3 options of naming (for me)
----------
option 1 is naming them inspired by other things
for example, estrella was from the word stella, which means star in latin
phather was from the word feather and the word aether
and promue was from the name of a greek mythlogy character prometheus
--
option 2 is straight up naming them after things
such as
food names (muffin/chiffon/latte/mocha ect)
words (cloud nine/daydream/sugerhigh/kiss ect)
animals (shark/fish/bird ect)
and more
--
option 3 is just going with it
like....i sometimes see the guy and go "oh yeah, that is a kenny when i see one"
---------------
im equally bad at naming my ocs so 😭 same struggle

Back in 2020 I’ve played Hades for over a hundred hours and was literally obsessed with the artstyle and ancient greek mythology thematic, but even the good 120 hours and a whole bunch of cool characters couldnt fill my desire to see more creatures, places, and of course GODS! Now, with Hades 2 reveal, my dreams for see more of mythlogy may come true. So here’s to you my old hades inspired art depicting possible look of Hephaestus himself, God of Smithing and Fire. What other Gods will we see? Cant wait to find out!  (Also before the fists weapon was released Ive came up with the magical fist weapon idea. What weapons will Melinoe use (despite that daggers shown in the trailer)? I bet shell get the scythe!)

So MH cartoon first teaser is out so...
youtube
I recommend to watch first because Im going to spoiler it
First few minutes we see scenes of upcoming episodes so which three scenes got my attention
One: SPECTRA IS BACK REPEAT OUR GHOSTLY GOSSIP GHOUL IS BACK
Tumblr media
Two: NEW CHARACTER AND IS A DRAGON!!!
Tumblr media
Three: Frankie and Deuce going to catacombs. Better Operetta being there too!
Tumblr media
Any who: The rest of video is clip for upcoming episode: Involving Draculaura's witchy shenanigans.
If you watch the living action movie before and still confused about it. Remember live-action movies and cartoons don't have same continuity
What do you think Clawdeen acting so surprised a school full of monsters?
Tumblr media
Well G3 Dracula will be almost same G2 Dracula minus glasses and wearing victorian royal outfit
I was so confused with Frankie says Heath is son of SATAN instead HADES. Thought its makes alot of sense with fire and stuff...
Greek mythlogy fans will saying once and will say again that Hades isn't equivalent of Satan.
The rest of clip its doesn't interest me anymore. Its cool that Frankie has tons limbs prosthetic for different function. That explains grab hook arm.
Overall I like it new cartoon. I can't wait to see more

I'm curious on how people view the relationship dynamic between Bianca and Sephiroth. So, I decided to do a small sample.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Brief explanation of the choices
Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights) - intense and tumultuous love, dark and complex characters, a relationship that defies societal norms
Dracula and Mina Harker (Dracula) - Otherworldly allure to their connection via the red thread of fate, blending the lines between love and darkness as well as life and death
Hades and Persephone (Greek Mythlogy) - drawn together by forces beyond mortal comprehension, navigates themes of power, darkness, and complexities of love in a world where mortals and gods often collide (Cloud and his group x Sephrioth and Jenova and Bianca)
Joker and Harley Quinn (DC Comics) - chaotic and unpredictable relationship dynamic, fusion of love and madness, and a journey through darkness together.
Tumblr media
Tagging my random fandom fans.

Also I'm not gonna @ the OP because everyone can have different thoughts but boy do I dislike the idea that Jason self-mythologizes
The idea of self mythlogizing might work if his actions were seen as bizarre in comics but they aren't - his killing is, his being a vigilante is never questioned because in this world that kind of is just a thing people do.
Because I mean Jason....*is* a Greek tragedy? His mythologizing isn't really self imposed when he's a fictional character having this narrative pushed onto him. The narrative itself repeatedly puts him in these situations where he can't heal, where his death defines him (Bruce dragging him to his own place of death, him waking up buried alive again in truth and justice, etc etc). He is a story, one that will repeat itself over and over because of how hero comics are cyclical. He's no more self mythologizing than any other character and singling him out or putting him in a narrative where says what happened to him didn't have a meaning or symbolism feels...odd. Like it breaks the 4th wall at the same time it maintains it because we know it's a lie.
We know that if Jason ever did accept he's living in a "real world" and his trauma isn't a myth, it'd be a lie. Comics character are probably the closest modern medium to folk tales and mythology, they are cyclical and characters become archetypes. Asking Jason to stop mythologizing himself is like asking Hercules to stop in the middle of his labors and go retire to farming and then stare at the audience, hoe in hand, and say it turns out none of that had any symbolism and he isn't a story at all, just a person, and prophecies and gods and hubris don't exist after all.

Howdy dear reader! I'm your host Glagger, and today I'm here to bring you the final and lucky number thirteen post of my medal analysis series for Password VN.
Much like its predecessors, this final installment has SPOILERS FOR THE NOVEL. So please, if you haven't read the novel yet, and don't want to be spoiled, leave for now.
Ophiuchus, the medal of Righteousness, Courage and Rebirth:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Ophiuchus, funnily enough, isn't actually physically found at all. The characters don't even get to see it or hold it in game. The reader is the first to have confirmation of it's existence, either through the opitional questions that can be asked to Oswin or through Craig before they are thrown in path P.
Craig says the meaning of this sign is debatable, but that the most agreed upon meaning given to it is ambition, to do better, to incite change and to overcome great trials.
In path P, after Dave mentions the cure inside the vault can save Roswell, Thanatos asks him for the password to open the vault, which Dave doesn't know. Florencia asks her robotic son what became of the medals, and the rat confirms the hyena is missing one. After Flora confirms it's Ophiuchus, she asks Dave how he intends to find it, and Dave wonders how he even got there without it. Oswin says he knows the medal's location and is willing to disclose it to Dave, under the condition he can confirm that the cure will heal Roswell. Dave admits he's not sure but believes so, causing Flora to relent and order Thanatos to open himself and erase his memory of the day.
Since western astrology doesn't recognize Ophiuchus as a star sign, it has no polarity, modality or element. However, there are some astrologers that defended the idea of Ophiuchus being a recognized star sign, and associated traits to it. Ophiuchus' sigil is an U-shaped mark with a wavy line across that represents a snake. The association with snakes comes from the mythlogy of this constellation, and gives it the nickname of serpent-bearer. The most prominent aspect of this sign is ambition, and it's biggest ambition is unity. They believe that everyone will someday find a way to rid themselves of their negative traits and come together as one. The reason this sign defends such a radical idea comes from the fact they are a natural healer, seeking to relieve all of their burdens, another trait pulled from their mythology.
Astrologers who defend Ophiuchus as a sign have also associated personality traits to people born under the serpent's stars. Those born under Ophiuchus are said to possess a combination between the traits of Scorpio and Sagittarius, since Ophiuchus exists between them. The combo of traits from these opposing constellations cause Ophiuchans to be extremely curious and seek for knowledge as their main life-goal. They are always trying to change and grow, being very passionate, ambitious and overly-critical of themselves and others. They are charismatic and sly, using their sarcasm and brutal-honesty as their main social tools. They also tend to be very empathetic, to the point they sometimes act irresponsible for listening to their feelings rather than their heads, a behavior associated to their naturally strong sense of justice. They are egotistical, arrogant, jealous and short tempered on their bad days, and tend to be very reserved and secretive.
In Greek and Roman mythology, the Ophiuchus constellation is associated with Asclepius, the legendary healer who was the son of Apollo, god of the sun. Asclepius could heal anyone from any disease, and was able to revive even the dead with his healing abilities. He learned how to do so when Glaucus, Son of Minos, the king of Crete, drowned in a giant jar of honey. After his death, a snake tried to approach the prince's dead body, and Asclepius killed it to protect it. Afterwards, he observed how another snake approached the dead snake with an herb, and that herb miraculously brought the dead snake back to life. After seeing this, Asclepius took the same herb and used it on Glaucus, bringing him back to life.
Asclepius decided to use this new knowledge to aid mankind, and even wanted to share it with others as well. Hades, the god of the underworld, became concerned that the flow of souls to the underworld would dry up thanks to Asclepius, and expressed these worries with his brother Zeus. Zeus became concerned humanity would become immortal and no longer worship or respect the gods, choosing to strike the healer down with a thunderbolt to prevent this from happening. In order to honor the healer for his good deeds, Zeus ascended him to the heavens as the constellation of Ophiuchus.
The traits associated with Ophiuchus are basically a description of Oswin as a person step by step. Known for his obsession with the acquisition of new knowledge and extreme arrogance, Oswin is a very short-tempered man who is very self-centered and egotistical. Despite that, he is still a very empathetic man that once had the ambition of drastically changing the whole world for the better with his intellect. He is very reckless, relying far more on his heart and emotions than his head, being stubborn to a fault. He is very judgmental and critical of those around him, often not giving a rat's ass about anyone unless they prove themselves worthy of his attention. He is brutally honest and sarcastic, but also very charismatic and persuasive, as he wishes to be. He has a seemingly jolly personality, but is very reserved and secretive, literally spending a good chunk of the game hidden away.
The mythological tale of Asclepius and Oswin's backstory are so similar, they might as well be parallel versions of the same person. We have two gifted healers with the desire to end all ailments of the world, both learning how to achieve that goal through their medical knowledge. Oswin creates his miracle elixir that can prevent and heal any disease imaginable, essentially about to re-shape mankind's history. However, much like in Asclepius' tale, supernatural forces beyond his control just seemed to conspire against his dream. Zeus kills Asclepius before he can pass on his knowledge to mankind, and random variance makes it so Oswin accidentally creates a poison rather than a cure, killing 99 children, his dream, his career, his chance at fatherhood and his desire to live. He dies just like Asclepius, but in a metaphorical sense, and the miracle immunizer is never brought to public or completed after the event, much like how Asclepius' knowledge of the herb was erased from history as well.
Despite these events, however, Oswin manages to overcome his depression and guilt to complete the elixir and save Roswell's life, which fits Craig's comment about Ophiuchus overcoming great trials and changing for the better. He manages to restore his desire to live, and gains the courage to face his past and move on from his sins.
